He has the correct amount of svchost.exe's running if he's on a network. I had this same issue with another computer I worked on a couple months ago, and then I noticed that all Windows computers typically have 3-4 svchost.exe's running at any one time. Here's a description of Svchost.exe for Windows XP on the Microsoft KB Note the multiple svchost.exe's in the example process list. As long as he doesn't have doubles he should be ok. Annoying as hell that svchost crap is...
  2. Thanks for putting my letter in this thread SC. I really liked the review; Mahood is a tough reviewer too. I think its awesome that UC got a 75%, some games he reviews can really get cut down to the core. PC Gamer still is the best gaming mag out there, and the whole rubbish game stuff is there cause they review whatever gets sent to them (to my knowledge).

Linux is entirely free with no price whatsoever, along with most of the software. As a matter of fact, most open source software is entirely free, such as OpenOffice (which is what I use) and other things of that nature. I've yet to find a open source program thats free which has spyware or anything like that.
  4. Ugha, the only gun I own is an early WW2 Mauser Kar-98k. If any of you have ever shot this 7.92 wonder you understand why everytime I think of it I start to swoon. The weapon, even with iron sights, is one of the most accurate guns I've ever shot. Its also a good hunting rifle being as its got the 7.92, but honestly, I don't like hunting with rifles. Gimme a composite bow, then I'll go hunting.
  5. Its the Onslaught mode DeepFreeze. Have you actually played the demo for UT2k4 on onslaught yet? IMO its better than tribes; and in its hayday I used to spend about 36 hours a week playing tribes (it was summertime). Its all about the onslaught mode; its fast paced teamplay gaming, and the general gaming public seems to like that, just look at CS and HL.
  6. Avenged Sevenfold's album Walking the Fallen is my current favorite to play UC with. Other recent albums are MudVayne LD50 and Rammstein's Herzeleid (Yes, I know how sick some of their songs are; I can speak enough german now to have to skip a few songs. :|)
  7. I agree, its a bit extreme to convict her of murder. If she is convicted of murder then so should her doctors as well, perhaps as assisting in the murder. Honestly though, murder is a little extreme. Personally, I'm pro-choice. Now, if a loved one was pregnant, I would be totally against her having an abortion, but the choice is up to her. If she wanted to have an abortion, fine, let her, it doesn't mean I'd agree. This right here, is against pro-choice. Big Brother needs to stop ******* peeking down on our lives, its really starting to get on my last nerve. Big Brother is watching... Oh, and Darkling, not all democrats only tell half the truth. Here we call those democrats dumbocrats in my school's Young Democrats Society, because they're destroying our (used to be) fine party. ADDITION: I doubt this has to do with this case however, but some women believe in "true" birth, where c-sections and other new age methods of birth (and concerning birth, like ultrasounds and such). Most women like that (I know one personally) would typically stand their ground, even if they knew that a baby would die.
  8. I don't like this distrubute by Steam thingy; Its really starting to get on my nerves. I like hard copies because I have to format so much . Oh, and EP5, you need to get a new Avatar... I realize you quit your fleet and all, but don't quit the forum.
  9. Oooo, I remember that one. I've still got it if anyone's up for a game or two. Thats the first game I know of that also had "commanders" that gave you boosts to your groups.
  10. Actually, I'll admit, I've been playing X2 more than UC lately. Doesn't mean I've stopped playing UC, I still think UC is superior in combat by far, but I've gotten to the point in X2 where my empire is massive . There's only one real reason I'm playing X2 so much right now though; I forgot my UC CD at school and I'm home for spring break... crap.
  11. Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was soooo looking forward to this! Waaaaah! I'm gonna go into a corner and sob. (This was actually the one game that I was looking forward too more than I've ever looked forward to a Battlecruiser game; Sorry SC, but Sam and Max was my first game I overplayed ever, and that means a lot to me.)
  12. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: No, I don't like downloading and burning music. I like owning my own CDs because when I walk into my entertainment room or den, I was to get hit with this wall of stuff Amen! I've got colleagues in the theatre industry who are just like "We're paying royalties so why buy the full album". I like the feeling of walking into my room and having to step over the 9 cardboard boxes of CDs . Which album is the Nickelback CD? There are a few good songs on their latest album. I don't really care for most of those bands much; lately I've been listening to some old school punk and metal, most notably M├Âtley Cr├╝e. That Outkast CD is a good CD though. Boy, I remember when one of the Outkast members got shot in Savannah (which is only about 1 1/2 hours north of where I live).
  13. Oy! I'm here. Just got done with my last show but the next one (which I'm starting today) is gonna keep me on my toes. We need fleet servers...
  14. This is why you should train your marines yourself and not leave it to Resnig. Suggestion, go space Resnig out the airlock, sounds like you haven't done that to him yet.
  15. This is something I stole from a forum that a few of my friends run. Post your favorite things people have said on the forum here! Make sure to give people credit for what they said! quote:Posted by SC: Yes, I am The Bloody One. quote:Posted by Jaguar: Was messing with you, last night was my birthday, so was giving you a bad time because I was in a good mood.
  16. Well, for those that are curious here's what happened. New CD-RW and DVD-Rom drives spin too fast for the plastic used to make CDs. What ends up is eventually you'll get a CD that will explode in your drive; trust me, it happened to me last summer after I got my first 52x CD-RW drive. As for destroying it; why? Is it still under warranty? Double check with HP (By calling them) and they should replace your drive for free, thats what Lite-On did for me. Don't bother destroying it you'll just be wasting money on a new drive.
  17. Just a thought... Is is possible to use GBS-III to make particle effects? You might try that instead of simply modding the current beams. I might be able to do it, give me a general idea on what you want (pictures, etc.) and I can tell you.
  18. Was the marine live or dead? I've had some issues with shuttles being dead in the water because their pilot had bit the dust. Otherwise try retrieving the shuttle by tractoring it with your CC and saying y when it asks if you want to attempt retreval. (sp? I've just spent 5 hours writing a 14 page paper that I'm nowhere close to finishing yet so don't ***** me out; I'll check it tomorrow morning to make sure its right) [ 02-15-2004, 11:37 PM: Message edited by: Cmdr. 19. The n00bs aren't that bad. I haven't really seen any of them trolling around which is always a plus. Hmmm, Vet Status... I dunno, I'm like a 3/4 vet arn't I? I've been around since BCM at least.. And I think I've been yelled at by SC enough.... Enough that I know how to post stuff without getting spaced out the airlock... Speaking of that SC, its been about a year since my last spacing hasn't it??
  20. Ok, so I was thinking, shouldn't the players who are getting the game be taking the initiative? What I mean by this is shouldn't we all be working together on developing combat tactics and such for when we all (hopefully) have the game and begin fighting in the online wars? CO's? Whadda'ya think? Is the ICV-Red Star on Scouting roles for a while?
  21. I am a Sound Designer/Engineer currently attending school at Georgia College & State University. I currently live in Milledgville, GA, but my permanant address is in Glynn County, GA. I am 19. I was born in Pennsylvania, somebody get me the hell out of Georgia, fast. I'm not married, but I do have a steady girlfriend who I care for deeply. I had my senator's letter all ready to go to the U.S. Naval Academy, but was diagnosed with Severe Asthma the next day... Too severe for me to get a waiver. It sucks, I know. I am a Linux enthusathist(sp?) who has the goal of promoting linux to become the primary accepted OS; I'm a security buff and you would be surprised at just how vulnerable, Firewall or not, Windows systems are. Its sort of my hobby to help friends secure their computers.
  22. I give it 2 months more before the oil companies assasins go and kill the scientists... This is awesome, I think fuel-cells are a great step in the right direction for all sorts of things, including automobiles, generators, etc. Problem is the oil companies don't like them, so they keep finding ways to squash funding to such projects.
  23. *Jaw drops open* Woa!?! He's an awesome sound designer, one of my many idols of design. I think we can all rest assured that Pirates of the Burning Sea will totally rock in the sound department. Seriously, perhaps its just I'm a audiophile that has spent too many hours behind a Cool Pro Edit screen or a mixing board, but I can loose interest in a game fast if the sound sucks. An example is Cossacks. I love the game, I can play it for hours on end with friends over the school network, but the sound sucks. If I'm not playing with friends, I won't even touch the game. There are some sound mods that are decent, but those are merely ok by my standards. This is great news, I was afraid that the sound might be like PotC's, which was less than satisfactory.
  24. quote:Originally posted by Cmdr Chavik: WeeGee where did you find a 9600 Pro for $67 ? I'm gonna spend less than $100 anyway. With both credit cards pushing $1000 it's getting kinda tight. What with auto insurance, dental work, and a trip to New Orleans and all. Did I say I found a 9600 Pro for $67? Sorry if I did. I found a Radeon 9000 Pro for $67 on http://www.pricewatch.com>pricewatch. The Radeon 9000s aren't the best of cards, but they get the job done right with Vertex Shaders and the like. I almost bought a Radeon 9200, until I learned that its actually slower than the 9000. Heh, I did see a Radeon 9700 Pro for $25 bucks though; When I called the company they said it was a mistake. Oh well. The Radeon 9000 is just sort of a temporary upgrade until I get a bigger lump of cash, probably this summer.(Funny that I refer to a Radeon 9000 as an upgrade and its older than my Geforce 4, Screw you Nvidia.) I never really can have enough video cards anyhow; I think I've got about 6 or 7 mobos lying around here with 2 or 3 cases. Hmmm, I could open a computer cafe...
