  1. just to add my two cents, I also use one waypoint, however I stay in space and use tacops to observe the planet (or moon, usually moon) surface. I pick a region to the far left of the surface map, centered, so as I can find my drones later ( ) and set one waypoint for each shuttle to deploy drone. Launch them all, they'll make a quick run and deploy and return automatically, and I'm free to clear the space region of hostilitys
  2. While I'm not sure as to exactly how fast or slow their fatigue will increase or decrease, I'm sure its no faster then if they were to stand around "on-station." I mean, their just sitting on their butts chilling, they won't be exerting themselves. So I would say just observe the rate an "on-station" crew member's fatigue increases, who isn't doing anything, i.e. a flight enginner or marine or whoever, and go off that. As far as food, perhaps putting some nutripaks in the cargo holds would hold them over, but I am not sure if they need access to the galley or not, I think they do. If you try it let us know what you find [ 03-25-2002, 04:07: Message edited by: goaliejerry ]
  3. Just throw them all into shuttles and OCs. They have their own internal lifesupport and all your crewmembers will be just fine. Now, as far as fatigue, they will still gain it, however if your looking to kill time for mining or whatever your doing, put the crew in shuttles or OCs and then you can power down the reactor. 4. I have, and I understand the foundation for the conflict between GALCOM and the Insurgents, but are the Insurgents truly outlaws, or do we lay claim as the proper governers of Terran space and assets? I know our cause is not mearly one of piracy, but the return of earth and her resources to those that will respect and care for the betterment of earths citizens. However, do we partake in raids on nutral ships, acting as warriors with looser restrictions on conduct, or do we follow similar guidelines as to what is acceptable behaviour or not, when compared to GALCOM? Do we support alliances with alien races, or are we isolationistic in nature? The history lays out a basic framework for introduction to the conflict, but I wish to delve deeper.
  5. I have a couple questions regarding the values of the Insurgent cause. Are we analogous to GALCOM in the sense of our organisation and restrictions? Or, while being organised into a cohesive and subordiante command structure, are we free to commit random acts of piracy on neutral and enemy crafts at our discresion (assuming of course that no pending matter takes precidence.) I guess what I'm after is, what is our ultimate goal? Is it the overthrow of GALCOM and the control of all Terran assets, or is it the complete domination of the galaxy? Are we a band of privaters the likes of Sir Francis Drake, or a nobel and regulated fleet whose goal is to promote peace? (except for those that wish to oppose us) Are we looking for peacefull coexistance with all other races that desire the same, or are we happy to raid and seize thier property and goods as we see fit? Some clarification in this matter will better help me to understand the role I will play once MP is up and running (WHAT A GLORIOUS DAY IT WILL BE)
  6. I justed wanted to add my two cents on two games mentioned in this post. 1) Swat3, I'm not sure if you talked about 3 or two, but I played 3 alot and I thought it was great. The ability to command your squad I thought was exceptional, the commands became intuitve, and it was a lot of fun. 2) SHOGUN: TOTAL WAR MY FAVORITE GAME OF ALL TIME ------ SOON TO BE FORMER FAVORITE GAME OF ALL TIME WITH MY BCM IN HAND Hard to top it, for I have honestly played this game for over 3500 hours, thats just a low estimate. I thought that the way the battles were executed was simply superb, the graphics were beutiful and gameplay had immense replay value. I loved the scale too, being able to command 1800 soldier on the battle feild, and each one was a sererate entiy, in that while organised into squads, the soldiers could lag behind and the fall back into their row. The sight of two large armys formed up into battle lines with banners flying in the breeze and stretching to the horizon, facing each other, motionless, waiting to release their tension in all out battle, its simply amazing. I would love to see this game engine applied to civil war battles, and instead of 1800 men, be able to command 50,000+ on the battle field. If someone could pull that off with the quality of Shogun total war, I would drop out of school and play that game till I died, for there would be no other reason to live [ 03-21-2002, 01:36: Message edited by: goaliejerry ]
  7. Completely tasteless and immoral, but from a purly advertising aspect (you have to denounce all sense of conscious to work in the field) its gold. Think about it, theres no way in hell that they will actually go through with this, however merely floating the idea gets the games name in the papers, and entices gamers to check out a game that is twisted enough to attempt to advertise on grave stones. Any publicity is good publicity. From a profitability stand point, there is no way that a billboard on a gravestone would have enough viewers or create enough revenue to be profitable, however, doing so would get the story on CNN for sure, and isn't simply mass awareness the goal of any advertising. Indirect marketing, it genious, but again, I don't think theres anyway they'd go through with it. [ 03-19-2002, 07:56: Message edited by: goaliejerry ]
  8. Yeah, just check in "Forum Archives" it tells you exactly what you need to do.
  9. Alright, heres my issue, which I feel is rather big. So I'm laying out my plan for an assult on a terran military base on Privus. I'm flying a firestorm, and I go about setting waypoints for all eight fighters as well as 4 OCs. I have marines in the transporter ready to go. So, I initiate the action, sending in all my fighters on CAP and sending my shuttles to deploy the OCs. All of this occurs, and I then send my squad of marines to assult the base. After being deployed, I attempt to issue orders to my marines, however, in front of my eyes, one by one, the green square around each disappears, and I am unable to select them to issue orders. Not only that, but the squares around my OCs are absent as well, so I cannot select them either. Furthermore, if I goto any other base on the planet at this point, none of the buildings have their squares around them, so I am unable to click on them either. It's as if there is a maximum number of objects that can be selectable, and after that, nothing else can. This isn't cool, cause then I cannot send more marines down, and because I can't issue them orders, or evacuate them. Those squares are called TTDs. Learn how to use the Tacops system and you'll immediately know why they would disappear. This forum is for tech support, not tips. I also have had the same problem as the poster above, where only my AE's gun would be visable while being deployed, and I would not be able to select him either in tacops, meaning he's stuck on the planet forever, and I can't have that. Upgrade your drivers. Learn how to play the game. Clear OUT of this thread unless you actually HAVE a problem worth reporting. And on a side note, might I suggest something that would make battle easier? No. Siddown. You don't even know how to the play the game. As such, you are in no position to post suggestions. Leave this thread NOW!!! If in tacops, instead of issuing attack orders through a menu, issuing them through clicking, or selecting the target in tacops. Scanning through a list of dozens of diffrent targets, such as during a base assult, makes it impossible to attack pertinant targets. If I could say, "FC-1, attack (click on object)" that would be a huge improvement. If you need clarification on anything I brought up, just ask. Thanks. The fact that you even post this bit, proves my point. You don't know how to play the game because it already does just that. Yeah, I thought about this one and realized that I hadn't looked deeply enough into it. Sry for the bother. [ 03-18-2002, 18:01: Message edited by: goaliejerry ]
  10. I live off of captured cargo pods and piracy myself I'll pounce enemy and neutral cargo haulers, as well as swipe any cargo pod I come across (wether ejected due to my or anothers actions). A quick sortie in a shuttle craft and my marine can grab any cargo pod out from any prospective benifactor's nose. Also, I make sure to engage in combat and destroy any enemy ship I can. Forget towing, I want their cargo! Perhaps I'll try and figure out some good trade routes, but its just not as empowering as killing harmless merchants Just as a comment on this games depth, I've played pratically every day since I purchased this game, 8 hours last night alone (partied hard fri. so took sat off to relax, and BCM it up) and I have yet to mount any sort of serious ground operation. Seeing as it's 6:30am, I've decided to take a break, perhaps sleep, and prepare my ship and troops for the forthcoming battle.

  13. To expose GALCOM'S evil intentions for all eyes to see, and tear down their facade of strength and expose the yellowness underneith. To bring glory to the Insurgent cause is my purpose of commision. What evil intentions you ask? Can't tell you, your one of THEM.
  14. yeah, when I hear all this talk about how stations are easy to beat, that must've been before the recent patches, cause the one time I tried attacking a starbase, I was cloaked, but as soon as I launched a missle, BOOM.
  15. Every computer controled ship I come accross has the standard sheild and armour. I mean, when I run accross another firestorm, with something like 1200 sheild points and 7500 hull points, and my firestorm has 3500 sheild points and 18500 hull points, I'm practically a mobile starbase in comparison. Will I ever run across enemy cruisers that have upgraded there own armour and systems? If not, why not? Also, is there a way to upgrade the armour and sheilds of my fighter compliment, and if so how?

  18. Has anyone ever read this book? It's an epic scale space drama, I mean the scale is just fantastic, with tremendous fleet engagements between hundred of thousands of ships, and the author E.E. Doc Smith just conveys the entire thing perfectly. Reading that book is why I love the concept of this game, space fleet action is simply the most awsome type of warfare I could ever imagine. There's this concept presented, called an inertialess drive, which when activated removes all inertia from an object, so the theroy goes that a massive spacecraft or even planet could have all inertia removed, and thusly be stoped on the tip of your finger. Thats how long distance travel is accounted for. One other well concieved scientific notion presented is this idea; lets say your orbiting your home planet, and activate your inertialess drive, so your inertia disappears, and you fly to another star system, and you stop by a planet. Well, when you realese your inertialess drive, the inertia you had when you actiated it returns, so your now moving in the same speed and direction as your home planet is in relation to where you are now. So you smash into the planet at a tremendous speed, 'cause all star systems are all moving at diffrent rates and in diffrent directions in relation to eachother. Imagine if you took two planets from seprate star systems, made them inertialess, placed them next to each other, and released the inertialessness, cataclysmic. Things like this I can get lost in, and hours seem like seconds and at times I wish that I could view the entire universe in an omnipresent fashion, sort like a Q (trekkers know whats up.) Contemplation of the cosmos can be humbling, and while we all look up at the stars and realize that their burning, if you sit and realize the SCALE of it all, it makes me appreciate every single second that I have to experiance it. In a way I feel sad for those whose imaginations left them as they left childhood, for our dreams and fantasys are what shape our amibitions, and allow us to appreciate the grandeur of EVERYTHING. Games like BCM allow for the suspension of reality for however long we're engaged in it, and its that idea that I'm becoming someone with that much power and freedom, well it's pure joy. I'll always be a PC game fan, and I love BCM because only HARDCORE gamers will ever even think of playing, and when I'm here, I know I'm in like company. I've never met anyone whose ever read this book. If you have, let me know. If you haven't and like reading about massive spacefleet engagements between good and evil, Chronicals of the Lensmen is for you. BTW its a 6 volume series, but I think it comes in 2 seperate fat books. Definatly my favorite book OF ALL TIME. I've read it twice, and it's over 1800 pages of maybe 10pt text. Forgive my blatherings, sometimes I get carried away.
  19. I intended to use the word domination as in the following context, "we will dominate those who oppose us, we will be dominant." As I re-read it, it does sound funny. Where is this recuitment roster you speak of? I have yet to find it, but as soon as I do I will put my name down.
  20. Dears sirs, I humbly inquire as to the process or protocals that must be followed for one to gain recognition as a member of the Insurgent cause. I currently command the ICV-Melissa X and have always been loyal to the insurgency. Being quite involved in this simulation, I figure it would good to join forces with the cause I believe in, and bring my skills into the fray to contribute to the domination of the Insurgency, once multiplayer is up and running. Any info with regards to all this would be helpful. Thank you.
  21. Hello all, I'm finally registered and would simply like to say that I love this game. Starting when I was 10 years old playing WC I on my 286, space combat has been my forte. I could go on and on about the bright points of this game, but in order to enhance the overall experiance for myself, I must ask several questions regarding gameplay. 1) How do I replace a fighter craft? I can buy the fighter asset but how do I deploy it? I cannot find any refence to this in any of the included text. 2) How do I retrive OC5 - OC8 once deployed? I'm flying the hulking Firestorm, and once I deploy OC5 - OC8, they are forever destined to roam the surface where I left them. In the shuttle waypoint actions menu, there are options to extract OC1 - OC4, why not OC5 - OC8? I've tried tractoring, having shuttle tow, to no avail. 3) Marine combat...is there anyway to issue orders to all or some of your marines once deployed? When my 40 marines are storming a base, it's quite difficult to click on each individual one and issue orders, why couldn't there be an option in TACOPS to issue orders to all or some marines, analogous to issuing fighter or shuttle commands? 4) OC Orders...My OC craft would not escort each other while I was putting them through there paces. If one leads it seems the others should be able to escort them, has anyone else had this problem? 5) What is the differance between escort and defend? It seems when I have my fighters escort my CC, they'll run and attack any hostile craft in the vacinity, while defend they'll stick by unless I am directly attacked. My problem with this is sometimes, while being escorted, I'll jump in system, and my escorts will run off immediatly to attack a base and get mauled. How can I prevent this? Don't let my questions fool you, I am addicted to this game, and dare I say that it is the most advanced, in depth, thought provoking and engaging game I've ever played. I've read about how user input helps with development, so I offer my opinions. I look forward to any help anyone can offer on these questions. Thank you.
