  1. I'll get jedi 2 for sure. I Have been a bit worried about the use of the q3 engine though. The thing that made the original jedi knight stand out for me was the incredibly large areas. All the q3 games I've seen so far with perhaps the exception of medal of honor are all filled with microscopicly small levels. Oh well, I'm still realy looking forward to it. Morrowind, Im realy excited about that one too. And for Supreme Commander, why would a guy with a short attention span create quite possibly the longest game of all time with no ending of any kind?
  2. quote: That information is false. BCM is not a benchmarking program and your frame rate loss while flying around galcomhq, depends on how close you are to the planet and how much of it is in view. If you want to benchmark drivers, use 3DMark 2001 I'm not trying to make anything up here, I realy do get poorer performance out of the 6052 drivers in Battlecruiser Millenium. I tested it with the same save game in the same position and there was a big drop in performance. I'm not interested in benchmarks either, all I care about is if I get a stable frame rate with good visual quality in game, and what i' saying here is that on my system for whatever reason the 6052 drivers do not work as well. My goal in this topic was not to benchmark the radeon drivers as you say but to find the best possible setup for playing Bcm.
  3. I guess the moral of the story is don't attack 35 different bases at once. Hell one base is more than enough trouble to keep your marines and fighters busy anyway. OTS weapons are fun but not nearly as satisfying as a properly coordinated strike on a base using air and land power. Plus you won't grind your cpu to a halt with AI processing.
  4. quote: quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- even with no life support...shouldn't the crew still be able to live just fine if you land on a planet with a friendly environment? cause I tried that on earth..and they were losing health...since when did earth's atmosphere become toxic??? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The ship is air-tight.. Wouldn't you start to--how should I put this.. 'Degrade' if you were working in a 100+ (or 0-) degree environment and you were breathing air that has already been in someone else's lungs? If your crew were out of the ship walking around the planet I think they would get a little tired after a while and hungry . I had wondered about this. I had the same experience. In alaska I killed life support and they started to die, puzzling me. however it makes sense that if the ship is airtight they would succumb to co2 piosoning. What we need is airlock control so we can blow the airlocks on a planet, Not to mention in space for amusement. Can you say explosive decompression, heh. Somehow I get the idea Captain X would love that feature. [ 03-24-2002, 18:22: Message edited by: Unknown_Saint ]
  5. Well, I did a reinstall anyway, though not by my own choice. It seems I royaly screwed up my system while deleting registry keys for the ATI drivers. Haven't screwed up a system quite this bad in a long time. Anyway in the process of all this driver mumbo jumbo I've determined that the 6015 drivers are still the best for bcm, at least in my case. With the 6052 driver set I lose a whopping 50% of my framerate while flying around Galcom HQ. I get about 40-50 fps with 6015 while 6052 runs around 23-25 in the same place. The fastest driver of all is 6025, it's also the most unstable of all. Hope this helps other Radeon users.
  6. Great then I'll have to start worrying about Captain X even sooner, heh. Earlier I posted about almost killing my crew on the moon without life support. I also killed the reactor while I was mining in Alaska. The crew Immediately began to loose health. Does the game take into account planetary temperatures and act accordingly or does the crew start to die without life support regardless of the planet your on? 7. An Informative read. I got a good laugh out of the part about the trash talking axe wielding troll in the question regarding profanity in games.
  8. Tell the airlines to disable power to launch control... Oh sorry I was thinking of a different kind of hijacking. [ 03-23-2002, 18:02: Message edited by: Unknown_Saint ]
  9. quote: ok once again now that my sig is fixed, after launching 10-20 bugnors on planet earth i noticed it lagged horribly. normally i would get 15-20fps, now i get 2fps when i go to earth, or observe it through tacops. i tried disabling all the effects in options which didnt work, i also visited another planet, and it didnt lag at all. i have been playing about 3hours after this happened and it still lags, only earth, whats wrong? I noticed you are playing on a somewhat slower system, not to mention a laptop. I'd guess that's the problem. Earth has alot of bases and alot going on. I don't know the inner workings of the game, but I imagine after you launch 20 bugnors there is alot of AI repair work going on in those bases. Of course I may be way off base who knows.
  10. quote: I can't get the intro movie to playe either - and ATI are aware of the problem. You can bypass it by using /n as the commandline parameter. Then again, you probably know this? Yes, I am currently playing with the -n, -nd1, and -nd2 command line parameters. quote: I get a very, very slight texture flickering and only when I am flying NOE or running around in fp mode. Nothing major and the ground plane is no longer split as it used to be. Ok, I'll hold off on a reinstall. This is exactly what I get, much more pronounced in fp mode. As I play with the display properties I can increase and decrease the severity of it. I find that disabling dithering causes the most severe problem, of course this is mentioned in the faq already to set error diffusion dithering, and indeed that yields the least flickering. The worst of it comes in bases particularily around the starbase. Thank you for a prompt reply, and saving me from downloading 20 megs of Windows updates over again (56k realy sucks). 11. Well, I tried doing another driver install with the 6052 drivers. This time I followed a guide I found on removing ATI registry settings. However I still can't get the textures to stop flashing. Ive had this problem with games other than Battlecruiser Millenium as well, and it is always related to detail textures in D3D. In addition to this I am also noticing a problem with playback of the 3000ad logo during startup. The logo plays on the initial run of the game after installation. After that the sound can be heard but I can't see the logo at all, just a black screen. I'm assuming a Codec problem for this, but all the animations in the game such as wormholes play fine. I don't mean to annoy, beause I realize this is a system problem and not the fault of BCM. However I am pretty much stuck on this one as I have tried the Radeon forums at Rage3d on this subject to no avail. So to cut to the chase, I guess what I'm asking is if I should go ahead and do a reinstall of the OS at this point?
  12. Captain X, When Battlecruiser online is out remind me not to join your fleet. With friends like you... You know the rest.
  13. quote: On my 8500 and 8500DV systems, I am currently running 6.13.10.6052 released on 3/10/2002 and have zero problems. In fact, unlike other games, turning on W-Buffer support in the driver control panel, works just fine because BCM makes full use of it. I guess I must have installed the driver wrong. I've read that you have to be very thorough in cleaning the registry with ATI drivers. I tried to be but I must have missed something. Could you tell me what type of motherboard chipset your 8500 and 8500dv machines use? Oh and my compliments on the W-buffer support as far as I know you are the first developer to implement it properly so far (I could be wrong of course). Thank you for your help on this subject. 14. Regarding the problem of flashing terrain textures. Is there any driver setting for the Radeon 8500 that can alleviate this problem. I currently have one layer of detail textures disabled through the use of the -nd1 command line option. This solves the problem of flashing textures for me but I would like to find a driver set for ATI that works with them. As it says in my profile I am currently using the 6015 WHQL drivers. I have also tried 6025 beta, and 6052 beta to no avail. Have any other Radeon users had any luck with this? Or am I stuck waiting for drivers?
  15. I only recently purchased Battlecruiser Millenium and have been learning the game. One thing that stuck out as a very memorable experience to me is the first time I went for a spacewalk on the Command Craft. I know it may sound boring to those who have been playing for some time but it reminded me so much of First Contact when they were out on the ship. I zoomed out and saw my tiny little avatar standing on the hull he looked microscopic. Well I thought it was neat anyway.
