  1. I have heard that storage is critical. CD jewel cases apparently out-gas the plasticiser used in their production, which ruins the coating on the disc - result: one unreadable CD. Until recently, Lloyd's of London Reinsurance Brokers were required by Lloyd's to hold all claims documentation for 80 years. Now try selling me (IT Manager at a Lloyd's Broker) a CD-R based archiving system!
  2. If it is a 2-axis joystick, then CTRL-J toggles between Pitch+Roll and Pitch+Yaw.
  3. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: Why would support go away? We're still supporting even BCM, which was released back in 2001. Support has nothing to do with this. I'm just tired of it. The XBox project presents a clean break and BCO will always be there for when I need a Battlecruiser fix. Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that support would go away. My hope is that support issues would rekindle your enthusiasm for BCG.
  4. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: Then there's the issue of how many captial ships (and transports) there are. Well, go count them. Each one would need a set of four deck schematics. Too much work. Too little benefit. Adds nothing to the game - that isn't already there - except one more interface. And a much greater level of immersion (for me at least) since "my" ship would have a (standard for its class) defined deck plan. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: And I'm out of time and quite bored with this BCG project already. All the challenges I once faced when I started out, are gone. All gone. Now its just a matter of time and resources. And thats the reason why I even considered doing BCO so that I don't have to piss around for two years - and a ton of money - on a single project. Its just not fun anymore. And I've said this already. I hope you didn't really mean that. If the SC is no longer enthused by BCG, what hope have we mere mortals who haven't even seen it yet? Seriously, I think I know just what you mean - once a project gets to the point where there is no creativity and it is just a grind to get it implemented, the fun goes away. I just hope support doesn't go the same way once BCG is live. I can't wait, although I will need a major hardware upgrade to run it (and have a wife to convince!).
  5. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: Screw it, you're obviously not a pirate and I don't think you fully understand what we're even talking about. So, I'm going to send you a CDKEY. Nice one, SC. Good to see common sense in action. quote:Originally posted by Bandus: On another note, can you guys really beleived all this started with a question about a French keyboard? :grins: Yep. We software compliance auditors (oops - didn't I mention that before?) need to keep our eyes and ears open!
  6. quote:Originally posted by Bandus: I read his post and your post again, and I see what your getting at. That pisses me off for Jascatar though. The dude is just trying to play a damn game and he can't even do that without someone taking advantage.... Glad we got that sorted out. I agree about Jascatar, but at least SC is giving him the chance to sort the licensing out.
  7. quote:Originally posted by Bandus: With all due respect, Richard, he said flat out he bought the game WITHOUT a CDKEY. As ANYONE buying games should know, buying a game without an original CDKEY is illegal. Bandus, I read his post diferently - I believe he did not realise that he was purchasing the game without a CDKEY, and only found out when he received it. quote:Originally posted by Bandus: Furthermore, pirating=stealing. Receiving stolen goods is a crime. If Jascatar even had a SMIDGE of a clue that what he was getting may have been less than legal he could, in all technicality, go down with the ship. Totally agree. However, I believe he only found out after the event, as a result of this very discussion. quote:Originally posted by Bandus: Frankly, I'm shocked and amazed that anyone would even try to argue this point as it seems pretty cut and dry. My point was that having purchased a pirated copy of the game believing it to be genuine (which is what I believe has happened), he is obliged to correct his mistake by licensing the product correctly or by disposing of it. This is the standard aproach to resolving licensing shortages in the business environment, and I see no reason for not doing the same in this situation. I was not defending or justifying software theft in any way at all. quote:Originally posted by Bandus: (Disclaimer: The following is my own, personal, opinion) Jascatar, I think it's safe to say the Battlecruiser community would love to have you as part of our ranks as you seem genuinely interested in the game. I've seen you post tons of questions about different aspects as you try to learn it and that is definetly outstanding. However, if your copy of the game is not legal, then you need to hide until you do have a legal copy (with your own CD-Key). Again, totally agree. In fact, I think the last bit is exactly what I said.
  8. Sir John Falstaff, try to get hold of Computer Arts Magazine - their web page is here . Loads of tutorials, plus they periodically carry full versions of 3D packages on the cover disc (typically when a newer version is about to be, or has just been released) as well as demo version of current products. There are so many ways to do things in 3D (I can think of at least three ways to create a simple tube) that you need to find a package that suits the way you think and whose user interface works for you. I first used Imagine on the Amiga (also available for PC here ), and now quite like Cinema 4D. Have fun, whatever you choose!
  9. quote:Originally posted by Bandus: Jascatar, despite your evident enthusiam about the Battlecruiser series, do you realize that as far as I can tell, you have blatantly admited software piracy to the DEVELOPER of the game? I disagree. He has purchased a copy of the game, preumably in good faith although from a possibly less than totally reliable source, which has subsequently turned out to be pirated software. The vendor of the copy he has is the pirate, not Jascatar. However, legally Jascatar should either purchase a legitimate license or stop using the software. quote:Originally posted by aggressor27: None of that really matters in Europe, Remo. Or anywhere else internationally, for that matter. Bootlegging is rediculous overseas, I saw it during a tour in Korea.Rubbish. Europe isn't Korea. FAST ( the Federation Against Software Theft - a UK organisation) recently opened their first US office to help combat software piracy in the States as well as over here.
  10. quote:Originally posted by jureidinim: Had that happen once to me too - dead pilots. I put the CC on Auto and told it to hold, then left the CC with my AE and got onboard the fighter and flew it back to the CC myself. That's what I usually do. It all went horribly wrong once - the FC was down to about 15% integrity, and once in it I could do NOTHING. No comms, unable to maneuvre, couldn't even eject! I had to abort the game. Does anyone know how badly damaged a fighter can be before it becomes unflyable?
  11. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: Yes, send in a saved game generated from the current build. Also make sure that your email describes exactly what is happening. Sorry for the delay in getting the saved game to you - bit of a rough week at work! Anyway, I have upgraded from 1.08 RC36 to 1.08 using the uninstall/reinstall/patch approach, and confirmed that I can still extract units as described. The saved game should be with you shortly. 12. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: Thats not entirely true. Read the VCF by searching for "shuttle" Presumably you are referring to the entry under v1.08 RC5. I'm sorry, but I believe that that section of the VCF is incorrect - the problem may have been fixed in RC5, but if so it has been re-introduced at a later release. quote:HOWEVER, someone reported that if you use the HUD menu that you can still do it. I have not yet reproduced this on my end. Once I do, I will prevent it. That someone was me. I find that I can extract drones and OCs from the other side of a planet or moon either using the HUD menu, or by using waypoints. Would you like a saved game demonstrating this?
  13. quote:Originally posted by PegasusJF: I found this when I was deploying mining drones on Mars, but finding it rather difficult to relocate them once I left the second level zoom(by noting the coordinates when I used the zoom-to feature to the units in question and carefully moving the mouse pointer in the general vincinity and zooming in)In my experience, you don't need to locate mining drones to extract them (assuming that is why you want to find them). As long as the shuttle is on the planet, you can successfully extract the drone - irrespective of the distance between them.
  14. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: OK, you can still do this from the shuttle menu is what you are saying then? Yes. And what is the range to the drone from the shuttle (from the CVD video mode). I saw ranges between 1,500 and 1,650 Km on Phobos. I have just followed the same process on Mercury, and extracted a drone at a range of 4233.1 Km. Can you also do this from a waypoint? If not, then I must have forgotten to put this restriction in that HUD menu. Yes. I can extract a drone from the other side of the planet from a waypoint. The saved game relating to negative inventory will be e-mailed shortly. Hope it all helps.
  15. Sorry SC. Item 1). I do have a saved game which shows this. Do you want it sent to you? I was running weapons, spare parts, and minerals from Galcom HQ to Wraith in SC1. CC is a Firestorm out of Starpath. I don't know what triggered the situation, so can't be more specific about re-creating it. Sorry. Item 2). SNG, launch from Starpath. I flew a Firestorm first time, and have recreated the situation using a BC Mk 3. Crew all 4 shuttles. Observe Phobos, and set a Deploy Drone waypoint for each shuttle in different time zones (i.e. spread across the moon). Launch the shuttles - they fly to their waypoints, deploy the drones, and RTB. Send AE to any shuttle, launch, and fly to Phobos. Make planetfall, and use TACSCAN in SUL mode to check the ranges to the drones. Then Extract Drone 1 using the Mining Drone Options menu, and re-deploy it. Repeat for the other drones. They are extracted instantaneously, irrespective of range. Hope this helps.
