  1. quote:Originally posted by Jaguar: First of all Cruis.in, you may like to be all humble and that garbage, but it's crap...OK, just that. I do NOT have to be humble, I know what I can do, I know what I know, and humility is for liberals and their pansy ansy crap with diversity. It might be less offensive to some if you made such statements with a little less certitude. Humility is a trait to be respected, It is most certainly NOT reserved for "pansy ansy liberals" as you have stated. Some of the greatest individuals in history have also been the most humble. Cruis. In and CC I also agree with your opinions, but it might help to understand that being in the military and being good at it requires this sort of bravado to survive. Unfortunately it tends to carry over into every day life and can be offensive to some. I don't like it much either, but that's the way it is. Of course it becomes something different when the attitude is used to squelch those that speak in opposition... these sorts of threads always devolve into threats of bans etc. Such is life in this forum.

  3. quote:Originally posted by $iLk: Stupidest anti-drug argument EVER. The fact of the matter is that billions of dollars are pissed away imprisoning citizens and tarnishing the legal records of people who have committed victimless crimes. And I speak as a conservative who has had close dealings with family member's lives being destroyed as the result of drug use. Drugs being illegal does not stop the problem - and with over half of our prison system crowded by non-violent criminals serving hard time with murderers while rich CEO's basically get sent to home imprisonment + probation is a big problem with our country. Legalize everything in regards to drug use. Regulate and tax it. The immediate effect would be a drop in organized crime, including border incursions from Mexico transporting these products which have 1000% markup profit because they are illegal. The quickest way to win the war on drugs would be to legalize drugs and tax them. Follow up by spending 1/10 of what we are spending fighting the war on drugs on rehab programs. Legalize prostitution while you are at it also. Regulate it the same as the porn industry is regulated with STD screening, etc. It would boost the economy - and keep plenty of room in jail for true offenders. Also - would save $30k per year per prisoner. $ilk, You don't post much anymore and I've wondered why, but I gotta say I couldn't agree with you more!
  4. quote:Originally posted by Prez: As a side note, I think it is telling that the vast majority of posters here with military experience (myself included) are vehemently IN FAVOR of the mission in Iraq and the war on terror. And that was an excellent post Jag. Kudos! You're right and so is Jag, but it's only one point of view. Just because someone chooses to be in the military does not give them the right to slag off on those that have opposing ideals. They are not only fighting for the cause, they are fighting for the right of people to disagree with it. I respect all men and women of the military and truly appreciate the sacrifice, but to use that as some sort of sledgehammer to belittle or condescend those that don't participate or agree is disgustingly arrogant. Especially in light of the fact that they choose to do it. They are soldiers, not military martyrs.
  5. Darkling - That really sucks, glad you're still with us though. Perhaps the only logical solution is to have harsher penalties for people who cause harm to others while under the influence or as a result of attempting to aquire their drug of choice. But even then we won't stop or solve all of the negative aspects of drug use/abuse. We tried that with prohibition and it actually increased crime. We have laws to prevent all sorts of irresponsible behavior, but when you really get down to it, they are ineffective. Trying to legislate behavior just does not work. The truth is there is no way to legislate safety either, no matter how much we try. Life is chaotic and hazardous. We take our lives into our own hands every single day and if one thing doesn't kill or harm us something else will. From the moment we are born our bodies are subject to all sorts of destructive forces and as simple as it sounds what is life but the process of dying? Sounds pretty bleak huh? Hedge your bets, cross your fingers and do your best to enjoy the time you have.
  6. Buffalo and Bison, Bison and Buffalo...
  7. Cruis-In, I wasn't referring to your specific disagreement. And I understand your point of view, but whether or not street's particular example is true or only half the story, his point is that corruption exists in all areas of our society including law enforcement. When I read posts I try to concentrate on the underlying message and not so much the specific things being said. Prez, Yes he can be all of those things and he definitely expresses himself passionately. Believe it or not he has actually toned down a bit from when he first began posting. He used to be much more direct. There is another poster here who has the respect of many individuals, myself included (though we rarely agree) I don't think I need to name names, but there have been times when he was equally abusive and condescending though his style is/was a bit more cohesive. I don't defend street, I just take the point of view that opinions are like as... well, you get the gist I won't comment anymore on the topic as I don't want to derail the thread further. As for pot flavored candy, I'm no stranger to the drug, but I don't understand why anyone would want something that tastes like it. Just a gimmick for kids to feel cool by and others to get inflamed about.
  8. I like street and to be honest it bothers me that he got banned. He adds a lot of color to these forums and you 'd think by now that folks would be used to his "style" and wouldn't take any of it personally. I have some strong disagreement from time to time with things people say, but I don't feel the need to silence them. Life is too short.
  9. Next up: Looking at a child is considered a behavioral precursor to child abduction/molestation and will result in arrest and conviction of the accused.
  10. quote:Originally posted by Prez: quote:Unsubstantiated bullcrap. Ask the families of the 3000 or so people who had their loved ones taken from them how "unsubstantiated" it is. If your blindness to reason wasn't so sad, it would be almost funny. 3000 deaths qualifies as the single most dangerous threat? 9-11 was a tragedy, no doubt. But if you buy the line that terrorism is the #1 threat to our survival then I'd question your blindness to reason. Think twice. Of course our gov't is going to tell you it's the #1 threat. They need to justify the war under the guise it's a 'war on terror'. Terrorism is merely one if the umpteen reasons why we went into Iraq, it's also the easiest reason to sell to the public. Terrorism existed long before they struck out at us. Most countries of the world have dealt with it for decades and some even centuries, yet they manage to survive. On any given day your life is threatened by far more mundane things than a possible terrorist act. It's safe to take down the plastic tarps and duct tape now.
  11. quote:Originally posted by Prez: ... the undeniable truth that terrorism is the single-most dangerous threat this country has faced since nuclear annihilation.Unsubstantiated bullcrap.
  12. I might just have to patch up my copy of UC to get my fix... ima gettin' pretty anxious here.
  13. Have we sunk so low as to make posts about American Idol now? In my eyes, it's neither Art nor Entertainment.
  14. quote:Originally posted by Jaguar: Religions is all that keeps some people under control. We are animals after all, and animals have baser instincts, the only difference between us and the animal kingdom is that we can think, and we keep those baser instincts under control. One of the BEST sources for that control is religion, be it whatever religion you care to name. ALL religions can be perverted, such as Islam and terrorists, or Christians and the crusades. BUT, you will notice, as a countries religious traditions go away, their crime rates go up, murder rates go up, divorce rates go up.... ETC, etc, ad nauseum. Religion is a necessity in our civilization, and you had better hope that it stays that way, when relgions disapears, so will civilization and FREEDOM. I'm about as non-religious as it gets, and I can control myself perfectly well. So I don't believe people *need* religion to be civil, though I agree it played a large part in accelerating the birth of civilization thus becoming a "hard habit to break".
  15. Oooohh...the MMO AND BC NextGen. LOL on the MMO PVP with "no sissified rules", you've just cut out half your fanbase (It's a joke...I'm kidding, really...) Awesome news!
  16. So when do we all band together to rid ourselves of both the Dems and Reps and remake our Government? Who's with me?
  17. quote:Originally posted by LostInSpace: quote:Originally posted by Jaguar: I have died and gone to hell, I actually agree with Grizzle on something. Somebody, PLEASE, tell me that it isn't so..... Yeah, there's been a lot of agreeing around here lately. This can't be good. Ah, so that explains why a monkey just flew out of my butt.
  18. quote:Originally posted by Cmdr Chavik: I had this really nice post with all sorts of tricks using UBB. The Internet gods decided I shouldn't post it so my connection went kablooey. Basically I disagree wth you Grizzle. Cool. I'm a cynic, especially when it comes to politics and money. Simply put, if they'd have kept their hands off of it and never diverted SS funds elsewhere we wouldn't *need* to fix SS.
  19. quote:Originally posted by Cmdr Chavik: Did anyone watch the speech President Bush gave tonight? He said a lot of the right things to satisfy me. Nest egg that you can bequeath = good. I said this above. Performance equal to or better than current system = good. Work hard all your life you won't retire into poverty = good. I didn't catch it but if you think they will protect your funds so you can bequeath them you're a fool. The politico just cannot keep their hands off our money. You can bet they will find ways to tax it or otherwise swindle the recipients out of the money. Not much of a stretch to imagine that they'd penalize the funds for being withdrawn, then they'd tax the recipient treating it as income. SS can be fixed, but we can't trust the gov't to keep their hands off of it no matter what scheme they come up with.

  21. Yes, very well done. Only the majority of 'cowboys' he refers to are/were actors/entertainers. (Sorry but I've got a real peeve for those that think John Wayne was a real cowboy.)
