  1. I am interested... Mail address should be in my profile.. if not PM me?
  2. As far as I'm concerned, it's the school security's fault. Yes the students did do this, but the fact that they needed a MONTH to figure this out is unnacceptable. They need to spend money on security, not just upgrading the hardware.
  3. Woo! I knew I needed a portable griller...! Maybe I'll get some actual decent food at my school now! Hurry up and release the PS3, Sony!
  4. It was supposed to be a joke, but it was fully based on UC, so I was stuck a little bit between the two topics. Apparently, I chose the wrong one.
  5. Can't these guys make up thier mind? We retract the story, we don't retract the story... geez..
  6. quote: Derek Smart - We're still doing what we love doing and we'll continue doing just that, as long as our fans are around.I've got your back man. Without this series... Gaming would be a dull repetitive thing. I can't wait to see GCO though... Ooh... Can it be next year already?
  7. Two students investigated for identity theft at high school Hackers allegedly accessed Social Secuity numbers of school's entire student body By Karen Jordan May 12, 2005 ÔÇö Criminal charges might be filed against two students for stealing personal information at a west suburban high school. The students at Hinsdale Central are accused of hacking into the school's computer system and obtaining Social Security numbers for students and staff. ABC7 Video Hinsdale school officials say the accused students have had the Social Security numbers of their fellow students and teachers for months, but there is no indication that they have done anything with that information. Still, the school may take disciplinary action against the students, and criminal charges could be filed. Thursday night at Hinsdale Central, it was well wishes for the gymnastics team. But earlier in the day, tongues were wagging about the two students accused of hacking into the school's computer and accessing the Social Security numbers of other students and teachers. "When we grow up and get our jobs, that's our life right there. They can access anything about us. It just screws us up for the rest of our lives," said Julianne Junus, student. The principal sent a letter home Wednesday explaining the security breach, which may have happened months ago, and appears to have been just for sport. The letter states, "Our investigation is on-going, but the students seemed to be more focused on entering files to demonstrate that they could gather the data than on actually using the Social Security numbers." As far as who the accused students are, the school will only say they are upperclassmen, but other students say they are seniors. "They did it on their home computer through their server, they said. They got a court order and went and checked it and they found it," said Kyle Niemer, student. School officials say there is no indication that the Social Security numbers were used in any way, but they are looking into disciplinary action, and Hinsdale police say criminal charges are possible. As a precaution, the school gave out the numbers to both the Social Security Administration and the Federal Trade Commission. "This is a growing problem in the United States and to actually experience that it is going on at the high school level, really makes you concerned," said Curt Stennis, parent. The technology department is working on restructuring the system to prevent future security breaches.
  8. Are the images from BCM directly transferrable to UC, and vice versa?
  9. I have no problem with people wanting to protect thier work. No problem at all. What annoys me the most is that when I legally purchase the liscence and rights to use that software, and that protection stops those that should have legal access... *sigh* Well, I've already been through that rant.... SC, what do you think about these copy protection issues? Seeing as you are the owner/lead developer for the BC series, you must have a bit of a job choosing copy protection...
  10. Yeah, I know the difference between Defragmenting and disk space... (There isn't even a single similarity). In anycase, I also need a tool to defragment the MFT as my disk as been down to around 19MB free a few times... I've tried the windows defragmenter, however it doesn't do anything other than move one file, and create wear on the drive.
  11. I'm looking for a replacement for the Windows XP defragmenter. I have 23% of the disk free and that's all I can squeeze out, yet no matter how often I run it, it still does not get any better. Does anyone know why this is, and is there a better tool to get this annoying but needed task done quickly?
  12. Well, it apparently gets confused with two different CD drives... and that was the problem. It ran out of "Time" authenticating from the first drive. Honestly though.. It should have support for more than one drive... None of this time limit crap.
  13. (Note: This is not aimed at 3000AD in any way. This is a general percieval of CopyProtection in today's world.) Well, today I purchased a NEW copy of Homeworld 2 for use in my personal computer. Having a smile on my face as I blazed through the boring, and usually the same bunch of installation menus I come apon this small issue: "Homeworld 2 setup detects that you are not running DirectX 9.0. Homeworld 2 setup will now install DirectX 9." Blinking for a second and checking my DXDiag I noted I was running Direct X 9.0c already and that it was attempting to install DirectX 9.0b. I quickly put a stop to that. The previous smile slightly faded as I went to get pre-liminary patches to make sure I am completely updated and waited idly, listening to GamingFM as I waited. Once it was down the smile was back as I quickly installed the patch and then hit the shortcut to start the application. I sit back and wait for the expected Sierra opening video as the light on my DVD-Drive blinked and it attempted to read the disk. After the smile turned to a frown, I hit the Task Manager to check what was going on. I thought to myself, 'What the hell? HomeWorld2.exe is running... but where is it?" I waited a bit more before getting the single most annoying error in the whole ****ing computer world. "Unable to authenticate disk within time limit." WHAT THE **** IS THIS?! I mean? I legally bought the game.. so why am I being locked out by the stupid copy protection? I looked up some work-arounds on google (god bless it's soul), however nothing came up! Sure there were plenty of people saying "I've been getting this error." which is similar to my own, but there IS NO WORKAROUND. Copy Protection is supposed to prevent the illegal distrobution of software, however it seems to do the exact opposite. I got myself a copy of HomeWorld2 how any other pirate would. (However, owning a legal copy, and CD key.. I shouldn't get in much trouble). Of course, when I run the application it shows the expected Sierra opening video. What's wrong with this? THE FACT THAT THE COPY PROTECTION DESIGNED TO STOP THIS ACT IS STOPPING THE LEGAL USE OF THE SOFTWARE, AND ALLOWING THOSE NOT PAYING FOR THE SOFTWARE TO USE IT! This is unacceptable! What is the point of PURCHASING a game if you can't play it? Why should I waste my family's hard earned credits to purchase a software title so that other people can play it? Bottom Line: If you are going to have Copy Protection on your software, you better ****ing make sure it works.
  14. quote: amersInfo.net:Some of the articles on the prior games comment that the UI is cumbersome and a steep learning curve for the game. Has this been addressed in the sequel? Derek Smart: That's just inaccurate. Like any game, you have to learn how to play it. Most of those people saying that the interface is cumbersome are those who have never played the game and are just echoing what others have said. I mean, what is cumbersome about point and click? The entire game is mouse driven. The manual is one of the most extensive and comprehensive in the industry. The interface is laid out in such a way that a blind mouse could find his way around. In fact, the interface is no more cumbersome than any traditional RTS or MMO game. Sure, like any new game, the interface can be a little challenging at first. But believe me, once you get into it and more involved in the game, you learn to work with the controls and understand its functions. Eventually it becomes second nature! Well, considering my sudden breakthrough with my controlling the vessels, this is extremely true SC... It isn't hard at all once you figure it out... I think most people are just over-analyzing it.
  15. Believe it or not... I have not even seen any trailers here in Utah... I wonder if it's not showing here...
  16. I view Xplay... and the occasional "ICONS", but nothing more than that. The Whip Set does have some good information, but it isn't presented in a way that doesn't insult my intelligence.
  17. I'm working with full Mozilla instead of Firefox for now... but I may jump back over.
  18. How do those guys keep themselves from going under?
  19. Shouldn't be the government appologizing, it should be the ones that ordered the Koran placed where they were.... the government itself does not work that far down the Chain of Command.
  20. Just trying to plead my case for moral gamers...
  21. Well, flipping the switch for CALS right after planetfall works, so long as you have a waypoint programmed for the CC... Don't try it manually, because it's a good way to break the toys!
  22. G4 has been one of the worst things to happen to the gaming market in the past couple of years. I won't delve into the G4/TTV issue, but G4 has totally massacred and assimilated what was left of TTV. G4 is effectively what other non-gamers view the gaming community as, and unfortunatly, it isn't true... This however... reinforces the above statement. I'd reather be able to play, and be sore, than to be annoyed by people touching me.... My personal space is NOT to be invaded... and things like this could lead to bigger issues.
  23. Can the government ever take the hint that things aren't broken at one point?
