Phew, the ship is a mess and I couldn't find a command for Marines in TACTICAL for 'clean up the ship, the SC maybe payin a visit!' Damn messy bunch of hombre's they are!! So we made it to Treas and landed successfully. I got sent out to empty the bin bags and it worked.. Alt+E, no problems. So something must've happened to my old savegame, but it's ok now.. the mission continues.. and we fly, err.. thata way.. after I find a bin (Treas is a beautiful, untouched planet - I ain't just dumping these bin bags in an area of nature beauty!)

Anyway, it does happen (sorta) I'm in a Warmonger on Treas and when I Alt-E I get this message; 'You cannot exit this craft while on a planet or you'll die' Thinking about it, the planet looks quite hospitable - and the message says 'a planet', rather than 'THIS planet' Oh well, it seemed kinda neat while I was drunk. I just started a new game and flew to Earth. Touched down, did ALT+E works fine. Went to Treas, works fine. What'd I miss? Very odd.. I just restored my game to Treas and got the message again. I flew to Cronus and got the same message. Then I created a new roam game, again in the Warmonger.. landed on earth and I could Alt+E without problem. I have a savegame if you want to see it. Otherwise just put it down to something stupid I've done in my current game (the craft exits are blocked by beer cans, or something!)

If you have a probe out and a ship within that probes range is destroyed then you'll also lose exp (bug?)Why is it a bug? If your probe can see it, then you can. You automatically accept responsibility. Fair enough, but being able to see something happen and being able to influence the outcome are two different things. Quite apart from the dilemma of which regions to view, there's the issue of how the hell u get there in time to do anything. The answer, early game, is certainly not to use probes (which seems a shame) Yet maybe there are strategic implications.. If you can control ships in the probes pz (with enought ep's) then, with enough probes, we have a space strategy game who's bounds and possibilities are endless.

(as u do, sometimes) I got a message saying you can't exit because you'll die. I didn't notice this prior to RC7. A small thing.. but apprecitated nontheless (how many planets have I died on?!) And now I'm going to bed coz I'm posting far too much crap for no apparent reason. wot? The only time you will get that message is if you try to exit a shuttle while playing as a Space Force Marine. Because they can fly shuttles, can go to a planet etc, if you do ALT+E, you will die because they are not designed for that. I am going to check what you posted right now, because that looks like a bug. You should be able to exit the CC as you could before, unless when I put that check for the SFM in, I did it incorrectly. If this is a wild goose chase.....brb Yikes, I did have a few beers last night, so thought I'd better go and re-check that! 6. Tonight I saw an AI shuttle launch to tow a AI disabled fighter! Anyone seen that? I never saw that in BCMG. I wouldn't be surprised if it happened, I'm just playing the game deeper now, it seems like it all fits together better. The king is dead, long live the king
  7. quote:Originally posted by ProXimity: I have yet to take my CC in atmosphere. Generally that's a wise decision. I used to do that a lot in BCMG. In UC I am yet to land the cc on a planet without taking damage. (ranging from minor to crippling) It's probably more accurate, as landing something the size of an aircraft carrier, from orbit, on a planet is hardly likely to be trouble free. As for the original poster's comments.. you have to set waypoints.. you wouldn't just aim your ship at a planet and hope your reactions were fast enough, would you? edit.. Blerm.. msl=mean sea level, not maximum system level [ 02-28-2004, 08:12 PM: Message edited by: Banquet ]
  8. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: Why is it a mystery? I didn't make any changes to the EP allocation in UC. Its the same as BCMG. Same with things like ranks etc. Things that are the basis for the game, don't get tinkered with just because. I'll have to try another game where I don't launch probes, to see if they're picking up the kills that are leading to my loss of ep's. I gather by your comments that it's not a bug.. and I've no aspirations to become a big daddy of the fleet so, in that sense, my ep's don't matter.. I'm just intrigued..
  9. quote:Originally posted by Spags: I think UC is great...My only gripe is that I wish there could be a way to speed up time in the game...I have played the ROAM Planetary Support Pilot career where it seamed to take forever to get to where I wanted to attack...I applaud the realism but just wish there was a way to speed that process up...If this was discussed before sorry just want to throw in my 2 cents...Thanks I totally understand the wish to speed up time, but I'm glad you can't. If you could, I'd use it.. but only because I couldn't resist. Games where you can accelerate time, for me, turn into a high speed nightmare. Almost everything ends up being done at 60x compression, only slowing up for the important game elements. Yet a game where only the important parts are played in real time, becomes less real. You may be bored having to travel these routes or perform those repairs in real time, but these parts of the game make the 'whole' experience more meaningful. You can't have an epic without the highs and the lows. Knowing those repairs are going to take many hours, or that journey will take a while make the thrill of mission all the sweeter
  10. Posting this here, rather than tech support, as it's probably something meant to be, that I haven't noticed before. Today for the first time I started taking notice of my experience points. After a couple hours of play my score is about -17300 (minus) Now, I know I haven't been blowing up my allies.. It does say in the appendix that you get minus points for ships destroyed in your PZ when playing campaign, but I'm playing roam. I have 4 area's covered by probes and I think any allied shipping destroyed in any of these 4 area's is taking down my ep's. Is this correct? If so, I think I'll detach all probes as I'm quickly becoming the laughing stock of the top commanders league back at Galcom HQ. [ 02-28-2004, 08:19 PM: Message edited by: Banquet ]
  11. The quick save will be blinkin marvellous.. thank you! The designate target addition will be great too. I gotta get into the habit of using DIE instead of TACOPS.

  13. quote:Originally posted by Remo Williams: quote:Originally posted by Mariner: I have no problem deploying drones, but i always have to go down in a shuttle myself to pick them up. By the time an AI shuttle gets to the extract drone waypoint, the drone has moved so far off the shuttle doesn't pick it up; I beleive there is a way to directly order the shuttle to pick a drone up, which i tried also, but the shuttle just kept swooping back and forth over the drone it was supposed to get. None of thses shuttles were damaged or anything; anybody know what I'm doing wrong? What I do is I place two waypoints the first waypoint about 10-15k from the drone issues the order "proceed to next". The second is right over the drone and issues the order "extract Drone x" X being the drones number. Works like a charm everytime for me. Infact the second waypoint doesn't even need to be right over the drone.. I just place it somewhere on the same map and it works
  14. I tend to use ship names from WWII. Being English I use RN names.. hence if I'm in a carrier it'd be Ark Royal, or Illustrious, etc. At the moment I'm skippering a cruiser named Norfolk
  15. I does take a long time. The one I did, even though I did it in two days.. was quite intense. Probably spent about 10-12 hours each day. I'm working on another one, insofar as I'm collecting the shots to use. Not actually put any of it in the editor yet as I've not finally decided on the tune/song to use. It is a lot of work, but I just love doing it Whenever I come back from holiday I alway do a video like that and force everyone to watch it Me and a friend write music together and I have a lot of fun making video's for that too. I hope you do get around to doing one Grizzle, I'd love to see it
  16. I've always played with the biggest, baddest Supercarrier I could get my hands on.. or as a scientist, explorer or paramedic in a unarmed transport. Tonight I took the super cruiser Garid out for a spin and had a load of fun.. it's so much faster and more agile. I miss the fighters but still get a couple of shuttles to take out for a spin. I think I got more kills in a couple hours than I ever got in a carrier. Unfortunately an untimely encounter with the windows key ended that particular romance we were having. I'm gonna check the appendix and see which one to try next. The Garid sure looks sweet though.. and even in space, you need a good image
  17. The latest issue of PC Gamer in the UK has a review. Only scores 65% but does have some good things to say, including; About the roam mode.. 'Within it you are unequivocally the master of your own fate, free to go anywhere you want and do anything you please in the perpetually warring dynamic universe, to then earn both cash that buys ship upgrades, and the experience points that yield promotions and fleet responsibilities. It's disorienting but liberating too, and the antithesis of the police states that pass as playgrounds in many peer products' About the continuity of the BC series he says; 'For a little while longer there's an uncomprimisingly complex combat-oriented space sim on the shelves that doesn't padlock you to the captains chair, pen you into a cramped corner of the galaxy, and pressgang you into a narrative you have no interest in.' He also mentions strengths, such as; 'fantastically detailed system-modelling of starships, and the scale and unpredictability of the vast dynamic universe in which all the action unfolds. Although vessel interiors aren't represented graphically (wholly understandable considering their variety and size) or schematic (regrettable) they are modelled meaning the movements of individual crewmembers and intruders and the spread of radiation leaks and disease can be tracked and controlled. You might never get to press up against Ensign H'ltagh's ample triple bosom in a packed virtual turbolift but anytime you want you can check her whereabouts, her assignment and her vital statistics via the perscan computer. All NPCs within the game have a set of evolving RPG-style stats that influence their peformance, and - even with the possibility to clone dead personnel - encourage a culture of care' and; 'UC's frequent fiery fleet fandangos might not be as spectacular as Homeworld or Haegemania engagements (damage depiction and laser effects are not the best) but they do feature some fine enemy AI and the kind of quasi-naval tactical tension that's been in very short supply in recent sims' Anyway, the sum up is 'The combat may be universal but the appeal is decidedly on the niche side' Overall, although I think the score is far too low, and he does moan about issues that aren't entirely fair because of the game's scope, I have to say that if I'd never heard of the game, and read the review, I'd buy it. 18. Nice one Prox There's a lot to learn in the game but this is one of it's great points in my opinion. The fact that you can be playing for weeks and months and still have those 'oooh, I just figured how to do that', or 'wow, I didn't realise I could do that like that!' moments. It's not so much that there's a steep learning curve as there are so many things that can be done, and ways of doing them.. you don't need to know everything to play.. but a good knowledge will help when things get hot. It's problem solving at it's most fun.. rather than silly invented puzzles, we get to solve real problems, like, ok, I have damage, escaped to crash land on a planet.. many systems are down and the shuttle bay is damaged.. can I repair this system in time, and then allocate enough power to launch control to get a shuttle out for parts.. could I somehow get a team of marines out to the shuttle that crashed with the crew dead, but it might still be flyable.. there's a hole in the hull, should I use Resnig to plug it? I dunno. there's just so many ways you can play each situation.. and always you're aware that it could all end in an instant if you get out of your depth (or if SC releases another patch that kills your savegame ) Yet always I can't wait to try it again and see if I do better next time.. cause when it goes right it feels more rewarding than any other game I've played
  19. quote:Originally posted by Jaguar: Resnig is overiding your orders, shove him out an airlock and you'll be good to go!! LOL That was a joke, don't actually do that.... LOL I can't issue marines orders with the TOM either. I tried it with them in and out of an away team, but no joy. I'm gonna re-read the manual on that and play around with it some more.. I must be doing something wrong
  20. quote:Originally posted by Annex: For someone who doesnt rave about games during every hour of every day (aka the average joe), I found that review to be dead on. The game is simply quite average, with just its scope and size as its one redeeming feature. That doesnt mean that its a Bad game, for many people it can be the best thing since the invention of the sandwich, but for the average joe the game isnt very good. Jack of all trades, master of none. There's nothing average about this game. It gives you almost unlimited choices. You truly are the master of your destiny. It's harsh, unforgiving, beautiful, tense and rewarding. The braver you are, the quicker it can end. No script, no level boss, no easy road, no end game. Nothing average here
  21. Sweet, learned a couple things reading that. I hadn't thought of giving FC's orders to escort each other. Also, I didn't realise the mission orders you gave affected loadout (sorry to have to admit that, yikes!)Still, saves me manually changing the loadout every time! When I've used the TOM, it never seems to work for marines, only vehicles.. but I must be doing something wrong there.. I'll mess around with it and find out where I'm going wrong. Is this the start of a series of how-to's? It would be an invaluable source of info on the forum
  22. Thanks again guys.. yep, I'd like to do another one, but take more time over it.. give it a bit more structure and polish. Cheers again for the nice comments
  23. Grizzle, Just seen your movie and it's really wicked Loved the shots you got and it was beautifully in time with the music. Excellent stuff
  24. Grizzle, I'm on 56k so I'll download it overnight and watch it tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing it
