  1. quote: Threats? No threats here. Maybe a polite hint or a gentle nudge but certainly not a threat. For what it's worth, I thought it funny too. Call it a job-related typo. No threats here? I hope ur wrong. Galcom should consider each of us as one (in-game). EDIT: If you consider future actions against Galcom as polite hints (only destroying half of an incoming fleet and let the rest limb home) or gentle nudges (physicaly shoving enemy ships back into wormholes in order to enforce a blockade) then I admire your use of understatement. I'm in the proces of buying UC. This means, I'm checking if some of the boxes reached this side of the Atlantic and Holland in particular. Otherwise it's re-ordering and waiting for a week or so. This gives me time to choose a upgrade for my video-card. Which I'm gonna buy to support UC. Then it's installing and patching time. As well as saying goodbye in the BCMG-server forum and saying hello in the UC-sever forum. All this will result in universal fun (pref mp). [ 03-15-2004, 10:08 AM: Message edited by: dreadx ]
  2. Back again. Oh, so much to do. Reading the forum, installing a patch (but first cleaning my PC) and re-thinking my opinion about buying UC. But first of all: Drop a line in this threat. Done. (one down, three to go).

But I do live 6 feet below sea level (and half a mile in horizontal distance from it).
  4. Great! Each time I will hear this song in the future, my mind wanders off to BC, this movie and the little helpless tin can near the moon. Good job of wrapping the video around the song.
  5. Weapons Engineering Officer in the Royal Dutch Navy (for 11,5 yrs now), spec in weapons, radar and comm. 31 yrs old single, no kids (AFAIK) Military: Ehh, still doing it. Refused my conscription though. I thought it a bit silly to join the army as a conscript when you're already a midshipsman in the navy. Hobby: Taking off in an airplane and landing on my own.
  6. Waiting to buy UC is a lot harder than I imagined it would be. Ppl posting their first impressions and problems...and you're not part of it. Now they are looking for UC mp servers. Oh, the tention, the stress Buried my creditcard and I won't go near a games-selling shop. On hope of salvation and rebirth, I will resist temptation.
  7. page 133: "7: How do I do this....?" Take one chapter at a time and practice it.
  8. Also, Vertex/Pixel shaders -> make sure your video-card has got what you want.
  9. harsh = less than nice Are you saying you find it too harsh? You could be right. The original text was way too long so I trimmed it down (removing most of the soft parts). Question for you: Why did you quote me? Do things get clearer by doing that?
  10. I'm with Chavik on the reputable shop thing (and even support his other ideas). Sitting at a table (with a cup of coffee) in a computershop, stating what you want and getting options on component level in return, is a good way to buy a pc. (in an ideal world where you are served coffee while trying to buy a pc!) Anyway, you have more control over each dollar that goes into it (and exactly where it goes into it). But it will take extra effort. Like Wody said, you can make sure you're buying a pc that's healthy inside. Here's something to do when visiting a "normal" pc-shop. Ask to have a look inside the various pc's ur considering. It's not strange to look at a cars engine (and kick its tyres!) before you buy it; why should a pc be different. Shop staff is often nervous when it comes to exposing the "ugly" inside of a pc.
  11. I like it a lot. As for Goatman455, this is how I read ur first post. "So, what does everyone think of BCMG?" Good question, although I think that the ppl posting here generally like the game. Does he really want to know what I'm thinking? "It seems cool, " You don't say it IS cool so you probably have some comments (my brain instantly remembers the odd feeling it had reading the question). "but suffers from the same problems as BC3000ad," can I get some proof of this, cause I know it is not true, and so should you! "mainly, steep learning curve." This is not a problem but a necessity for an interesting game. At this point I stopped taking you serious. "I do applaud the idea though, this is the ultimate space-fleet simulator." I agree and I don't mind the use of "fleet" cause you're not playing untill you try to fight for yourself while controlling 4 other cruisers as well. "I hope Derek will keep the game evolving," In regard of the problems you mentioned I find this an odd comment. In fact you come close to contradicting yourself. "because somewhere burried in this material is an all-time classic." Me personally I see this game as a tree, planted in the 80' and it's still growing and getting more and more branches. Once in a while a snapshot is taken and you can take an image of the tree home with you. The tree grows (due to Derek's gardening skills) and a year of what later, you buy another snapshot of the same tree but now it's stronger and bigger with an extra branch and some more leaves. The result of this train of thought is that I think you as a person who does not think before he speaks. And my respect for you goes free-fall. Hence you get less than nice replies.
  12. Cancelled pre-order at EBgames untill issues are settled in favour of Derek. I don't want to buy a game at a price that shows no respect for its developer. It costs me $30,- on shipping to get the game here in a reasonable amount of time and that's a bit much for a 20 dollar demo.

  14. LOL For other beers, I have to agree with Mano, Grolsch is my favourite too (unfortunately, for the rest of the world, Heiniken has the better marketing-division ) and you can always please my taste-buds with a Belgian beer (home brew as often as not). I grew up in a beer lovin and making enviroment.
  15. Yep, just strollin' down the halls of something that is called Sygan Startation (at least in your sig) Could we capture Galcom HQ and make it an INS bridgehead to start Earth's cleansweep anti-virus programs from it?
  16. Try search with "Kendrick" and read the threat "System damage (for no reason)". Does, what is described there, look like your situation?
  17. Question: Does it still appear when the CE is not on station?
  18. quote: The server disconnects quite often Serverdoc logfile shows: 23:58:33 start 00:51:10 restart 00:58:00 restart 03:28:45 restart [2 minutes later the system crashes] BC log shows: you connect: 00:59:08 ; 01:04:04 ; 01:55:10 and 02:05:27 you disconnect: 01:49:57 ; 01:52:05 ; 01:54:12 and 02:03:40
  19. quote: Sometimes I am not able to meet the other player because we are as in paralel universes ... This occured twice: 1) The other player was me, experimenting with client/server on same machine. Unsupported. 2) The other ship/player is a ghost. Raisin'eyebrows over that one myself. It seems that sometimes when a player is destroyed, he reappears some distance (11 clicks or so) away. After a few seconds the player disappears but the vessel stays. You can hit it but you can't damage it and the vessel does absolutely nothing but hang in space.
