  1. Rubbish on your Rubbish. Don't insult my intelligence, Mr. Smart. I have a PhD, too. I am not debating or arguing with you about the existence, or lack thereof, of a "bug." You obviously think it is not. For all I know, there is some feature of which I am not aware, or corruption in the files. Your comments are not only illogical and insulting, but unworthy of reputation. The only minerals on board were repair minerals and fuel supplies. I was on earth to repair my fighter craft, and so not in combat or possessive of any intruders. The damage occured twice, was repaired twice. After the third time I locked Kendrick up in the detention area and it quite. The inventory did not appreciably change, since only repair kits and fuel were consumed. Nevertheless, the damage stopped. Furthermore, if you would do your homework (see my earlier post), the damage kept occuring to the Navitron Computer, which cannot be upgraded. This may well be related to some corruption in the game files. I have had it happen twice to as many systems on the ship. Each time locking up Kendrick, or taking him off duty, puts a stop to it, whatever the cause. I was only making conversation about a curiosity in the game. Nothing more.
  2. In my case, I have no artifacts. Kendrick keeps damaging systems without remorse. I noticed it started with the aquisition of Fleet C&C. I tried docking with star-stations and nothing changed. The only solution that puts an end to his damaging systems for no reason is taking him off duty ... that means either sick-bay or brig. Anywhere else and he comes back on his own. As soon as his "on station" indicator comes on, the system goes down again.
  3. I didn't mean to imply they didn't. Sorry if I did. I was just attempting to explain what you more eloquently said infering Maxwell's Equations. But electrostatics works both ways. You may repel like charges, but opposite charges will be equally attracted. In any case, "energy" doesn't have a polarity. But you bring up an interesting side point. Stellar matter and remnant high energy photons (radiation), free electrons or protons, and other material, to say nothing of solar flares. Space is literally filled with "stuff" floating around (at incredible speeds). Suns eject (and absorb) massive quantities of stuff. Nebulas are all but forgotten in this sim and yet pose incredible navigation (and other) difficulties. Ion storms, electro-statics at their best, would be another interesting encounter.
  4. I had this problem with the Navitron Computer. Mr. CEO would have the staff repair it, then he would break it again, and the cycle would repeat. My solution, after many occurrances, was to lock idiot in the Detention Hold. Problem Solved. I recall in BC3K there was a rumour of a 'traitor' among the officers. I have not read about this possibility in BCMG, but it may exist. All I know is the problem didn't go away while docked at BCHQ or any other starstation or after many attempts at repair. As soon as CEO comes on duty, the system breaks and continues to do so until he either gets locked up somewhere or goes off duty.
  5. Thanks for all the input. I didn't mean to imply that I couldn't kill the marines, I just thought I missed something with all the new stuff since BC3K. I guess this Space Marine thing (or SFM as you call it) is so new all the details aren't worked out yet. Why have Space Marines if you cannot deploy them in Space? Another curiosity is the fact that the PTA system doesn't target them, the IOD cannot hit them, and the Pilots just fly around like chicken little and complain about them, even with a full missle load on board. I can't wait to try deploying half a dozen SFM's to see if they stand around like idiots. Does anyone know why the supply stash has been deemed hands off and damage immune? It's nothing more than a minor annoyance, since it keeps the CAS lit.
  6. I have noticed occassions where several marines engage in space combat around orbitting stations, and I am unable to deploy assistance in the extermination of the assailants. Is there some particular method to deploying my space marines, or has this ability been prohibitted in BCMG? It seems kinda silly to have a military force capable of doing this kind of combat, to watch the combat, but not be able to deploy forces to join (or speed up) the combat. On the same note, I have managed to capture several enemy stations, but what do you do about the remaining supply stash? You can't seem to destroy it, collect it, or anything else. Is there a way to capture it?
  7. Actually, the nail example is one of Electric Charge similar to the automotive battery. Protons do not move appreciably in any solid material. Electrons can be displaced due to a moving magnetic field, but not a stationary one. Should the number of electrons in a nail be appreciably displaced to one end, one would detect an electric charge on the nail just as they would a battery. Don't get me wrong, there is an inescapable link between electricity and magnetism, but what magnetism exactly is comprised of is still unknown. We do know it is the result of charges in motion, and it occurs naturally in very few minerals. We can induce a magnetic charge in a variety of iron composites, but they are not completely permanent (lasting several months, depending on the alloy involved). These magnetic moments are believed to be caused by molecular arrangement within the metals. The unique characteristics of the metal's structure allows for this type of reform, but the structures of other materials do not, being far more rigid, which is why they cannot be magnetised or magnetically attracted. A polar gas can be magnetised, but it quickly dissipates the orientations once the field is removed, returning to a chaotic and random state. Unlike electrical impulses, magnetism exists (as far as we know) only as a "field" which permeats space irrespective of walls or other obstructions. There is no particle identified as possessing the "magnetic field" and no magnetic "mono-pole" (e.g. a North without a South) has been identified. The confusion is understandable, since E&M is a very complex and confusing subject.
