  1. That's right call me crazy!!! I was watching the screen savers and they did a test run of this little gizmo. All you use is a 3x PVC Frensel Lens and whatever compartment you want to make for the housing. I was just wondering if any of you have tried this. The test run on the screen savers didn't go too well because they slapped something together in 10 min and nothing was lined up and measured properly but it did project. From my research on the web I found out that Wallmart sells a 2X Acrylic Frensel Lens that some have tried but it is not as good as a 3x PVC lens. Works for tv/monitors 13"-19". BIG SCREEN BIG SCREEN CONSTRUCTION PICTURES CLOSE UP PVC LENS I'm almost intrigued enough to try this can you imagine playing BCMG on a 100 Inch (corrected from foot) Jaguar projection!!! SWEET. Or any game for that matter. [ 01-27-2004, 02:11 AM: Message edited by: Jaguar ]

The mars or moon exploration was suppose to be joint ventures with all the countries invovled in constructing the station and that was suppose to be the jumping point for the planned missions to these places. And from what I understood the moon was suppose to be the first to be colonized and that would be jumping off point for Mars due to the fact that it would cost only a fraction of the fuel expenditure compared to the fuel it would take to launch from Earth. Also there are alot of other consideration besides fuel. Like the technology to prevent the long exposure to deep space radiation, the psycholocial issue of the long missions, emergency contingencies that might arrise during the mission (remember apollo 13) etc... etc... etc... If any of you have cable or satalite, check out the Discovery science channel they air two programs Cosmic Odyssey and Mission Control they air a couple of very good episodes about all of this. quote:Original post by DREADA Well, if it wasn't for Russia's finance, they'd have done it already - you've got a hand it 'em, they don't mess around. They were the first to kick-start space tourism and they're the kind to get up and go... ask questions later! And if they keep trying to go it alone, they won't even have a pot to piss in either quote:Original quote EPSILON 5now if the US could stop spending more money on the military and start doing SOMETHING in space beside observing how spiders make webs without gravity... china .. moonbase by 2010 ... russia ... starpath by 2030 ... The government already used them in drug tests and probably spent millions of dollars doing it SPIDER EXPERIMENT As for the Chinese and Russian trying to get off this planet maybe it's because they see us coming and are affraid!! quote:Original post KalshionI must be honest, I'll be surprised if we even LAST that long! with all the wars and stuff going on. I wouldn't be surprised if a world war 3 broke out by 2010 and wipes out nearly everyone on the face of the earth.. wouldn't surprise me a bit.The sad thing is Americans and the Russians created this dilema during the cold war. Playing off one small country after another and allowing even the most hitler like leader take control of a country if it suited their needs. And now we are left with this legacy of constant war cleaning up the mess of the past. quote:Original post DREADAIMO, world peace is very important and would benefit space exploration no end!! Just imagine for a second a world where we had resolved the issues that are the major causes of war today (being vague there, I know).....If only. Every one on this planet knows it. It's amazing this aspect though how it's far more easy to declare war (everyone not just the USA) than it is to declare peace. Blame it on being a fairly new sentient race. We are still plagued by our ancestors primitive minds such as territorialism, greed, corruption, religion and the big one the superiority complex. It's nothing to sneer at either because it is an evolutionary success story for our species. Let's just hope this race lasts long enough to shake off the dust of the past and evolve past all of that.
  3. quote:Originally posted by Most: Thanks..thats a good website. I suggest a lot of people check it out. Its been bookmarked. My pleasure. There's also a few fan made games such as Space Quest and the like. Like this one for example quote:Space Quest 0: Replicated is an excellent fanmade Space Quest game that in my humble opinion is even more fun than The Lost Chapter, another fanmade SQ game reviewed on this site a few years ago. Set in a time before all SQ games (hence the name Space Quest 0), Replicated finds our hero Roger Wilco posted aboard Labion Orbital Station 10, a Class 3 Cloning Facility in space. Similar to Space Quest 1, Roger wakes up from one of his now-famous supply closet naps to find all of his crewmates murdered by someone... or something. Your job, naturally, is to help Roger escape the station and visit Labion to find out what happened. The game uses Sierra's AGI interpreter, so the feel and gameplay are identical to Space Quest 1 and 2: There's also a fan made racy version of quest for glory titled Quest For Glory 4 1/2:So you thought you were a hero? quote:QFG 4 1/2 is a DOS game (playable in Windows 95/98/2000) and supports 3 different resolutions. Beautiful handmade graphics will make you feel nostalgic about those days that a good designer with vivid imagination was enough to create a game that rocks. The game was created using Adventure Game Studio and uses the same interface with the latest Sierra adventures. You will find yourself enjoying this game regardless of your previous experience with Adventures and RPGs as long as the designers have managed to distribute the action evenly. Be aware though that as the makers say in their web page: This game is rated R for strong language, extreme violence, sexual situations and other things that Sierra didn't have the balls to do. So have fun and if you find any of the previous of the series do not miss them! One question though, does anyone have an audigy card? If so any suggestions on how to get dos games to work with this card. I use to have the soundblaster live which came with dos support and had no problems with any of the dos games.
  4. I had forgotten about this game. I played it a little bit when I had my old system with the voodoo3000 card. Check it out NOCTIS I've downloaded it and will resume my exploration. also check out the review on this great site I frequent HOME OF THE UNDERDOGS explore this site well and get quite a blast from the past. You can download many of the old games from this site games such as Starflight to name one. A good place to start is the menu on the left side of this web page and click on HALL OF BELATED FAME to get ya started. Oh yeah check out the review for BC3000 actually the review in my opinion is straight foward and honest for example quote:Overall, in spite of all the hype, misinformation, and considerable blame that centered around its flamboyant designer and Take 2 Interactive, Battlecruiser 3000AD is one hell of a ride. If you are Elite or Privateer fans, you definitely must try this game. It may look outdated compared to recent 3D-accelerated games (hey, it was in development for 10 years), and it may not fulfill even half of what Smart promised?but it?s pretty darn good.BC3000 review

  7. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: Consider this my contribution to the quest to take this thread further off topic. I almost fried my eyebrows tonite. It all started when I noticed that the Inspire 420W psu thermal monitor seemed to be on the fritz. So, I decided to swap it out for an Antec TruePower 430W unit I had lying around. Here I was, swapping stuff out. Then I flipped the power switch and all the lights in the house dimmed. A few moments later, my APC BackUPS Pro 650, gagged, threw up its overload warning light. And decided to head South thereafter. I swapped out the psu units again, and it worked fine. Put the Antec back in the and the UPS seemed to lift off the ground, take one look at me, and lit up all its lights. It wasn't until I put the Inspire back in (I decided to live with the busted thermal sensor for now), that it dawned on me that with the 430W of the Antec, coupled with the other units (monitor, PDA, etc) connected to the PSU, it was being overloaded. Boy did I feel stupid. Luckily I didn't blow up the house circuitry. Sounds like you averted a Florida Blackout 2003 .

  9. quote:Originally posted by Hades: quote:Originally posted by Greg Miller: In conclusion, I advise you to install the most recent 4n1 Hyperion drives first from Via and see if that fixes your problem.Umm... how do I do that? Go to you motherboard manufacturer they have all software updates you need for your mother board the link is in my previous post. You have a socket A motherboard your model is listed in that.
  10. quote:Originally posted by Greg Miller: Calm down, and don't scare him. Now that I think of it, my wife's machine had the exact same problem, installation of anything would appeared to lock up the machine. If you let it go, it would eventually finish. I say appeared because the machine would just sit there, spinning the CD in the drive. The mouse would still move, but nothing else would work. I don't know exactly what fixed the problem I can only speculate. Our machines (Wife's and mine) are almost identical, both have the same Mobo. The differences are she only had one stick of 256megs of Ram, and I could not turn on the 4 bank interleave, or else the machine wouldn't even boot. She also had an older, slower ATA66, 5400rpm drive to my ATA100, 7200rpm. The first thing I did was update the 4n1 Hyperion drives. With that alone I noticed much better drive performances (HDD, CDROM, FDD). Soon after though I got a new HDD, and passed my other down to her, as well as more Ram. She now has an ATA100, 72rpm drive, as well as 3 sticks of 256megs, with the 4 bank interleave turned on. The slowness has gone for good. In conclusion, I advise you to install the most recent 4n1 Hyperion drives first from Via and see if that fixes your problem. If not, then try to reinstall windows one more time, maybe your last install didn't go well. Wasn't trying to scare him but stating a valid fact. Before any of you put in or take out anything into your computer unplug it and hit the power button to drain out the excess electricity that is the by product of the ATX standard trickle charge or else accept the consequences from messing up the IDE circuits, CPU circuits, memory circuits all the way to any PCI cards you never know what's going to get damaged unless you are extremely lucky and nothing happens. Any tech person will state this also including your peripheral's manual and from my own experience . HADES, I also forgot to ask do you have a firewall on your computer and an anti-virus? If you don't have a firewall I suggest you install one such as ZoneAlarm. Because without a firewall you are left wide open while online from hackers messing with anything on you computer. On top of updating the VIA 4in1 drivers go to the motherboard manufacturer and update the bios as well. I check your motherboard manufacturer and there is a bios update CHAINTECH MOTHERBOARDS. Also if you do a re-install of windows again I find that if you take out your pci cards except for the video card windows installation goes a lot smoother. Once windows is installed then one by one put the cards back installing the drivers as requested. I've also found that by doing this windows overall operates better in the long run. Anyway if you wanna start isolating possible hardware issues start with the drives specifically the CD roms disconnect them run the computer for an extended period of time to see if you lock up if you do then you know the CD drives are fine and your problem lays else where. Check out your PCI cards such as the sound card take that out and run the computer see what happens. If you still lock up then it's either the video card, Motherboard, CPU, memory or Hardrive you take your pick. As for checking the hardrive most manufacturers have avail a low level diagnostic program that tests every aspect of the Harddrives integrity you can try that also to eliminate the hardrive from causing the problem. Also, if you wanna determine if your video card is causing the problem take that out and in the bios enable the onboard video and then take the computer for another spin. If after all this you still lock up then you know it's either the motherboard, CPU or memory. Another Warning: Before any of you put in or take out anything into your computer unplug it and hit the power button to drain out the excess electricity that is the by product of the ATX standard trickle charge or else accept the consequences

Ah some progress with your system listing. don't worry we will get you up and running shortly well that is if it's not hardware failure. One more question how long have you had this system and when did you install the new video card. When you installed the video card, did you remember to unplug the power cord and hit the power button to drain the excess electricity from the system? I've had this system for about a year-and-a-half, and I put in the new video card around June. And, no. I didn't even know I had to do that. Oh fudge!!!! I did that once quite by accident when I was playing around with my older system and put the Creative live card back in I didn't drain the excess power luckily it didn't damage my motherboard or other items but it took out my matrox G200 card. It killed it completely!!! I wound up getting a voodoo3000 the next day. Other things can occur that don't show up immediatly like damaging motherboard components that don't crop up right away but down the road. I hope this is not what happened to you. Do you have AOL IM if so IM RESNIG that's me I'm on right now I can talk you through some other stuff.

  13. quote:Originally posted by Hades: Does that mean I can hit it with a rock? Oh, and I downloaded that AIDA32 diagnostic thingamajig. How do I tell if something's wrong with my comp? And, will hitting it with a rock fix it? How about a wooden baseball bat? That would help me. Yeah, I second Cmdr Chavik's motion of system profile please. Is it a DELL, GATEWAY etc.. or did you put your system together. If you don't know how to fill in your system profile just write up your system info in your next message like motherboard, cpu, memory, hardrive etc.. If you don't know AIDA32 tells you all this. And as for AIDA32 it's all icon driven and whatever diagnostic subsystem you go into it will list everything about it including any possible problems it finds. For me the only problem and possible solution it gives me for memory is that it states "Install more memory for improved performance" that's because I only have 256mb ddr Yeah Yeah I know I really should have at least 512 just call me lazy in not picking more up. Oh yeah, if you put your system together yourself you need to check the motherboards manual or web site for compatible components. Like my MSI motherboard it lists specific Hardrives and Memory I should use with it. Otherwise if you don't list anything about your system for us we are all going to be shooting in the dark trying to help you out.
  14. quote:Originally posted by Hades: quote:Originally posted by Epsilon 5: basically your best bet is to have spare parts to swap and test, hopefully. And if that's not the case? Okay before doing any swapping of any hardware (if you have any spares that is) is your motherboard supplied with a diagnostic program on it's install cd? If not, then you should be able to find free diagnostic programs. A good place to look is www.Download.com. If you want to just test the memory check this little program out MEMORY TEST. For a full diagnostic package you could try PC DIAGNOSTICS The users on Download.com give this a 98% rating and it's free.

Well we will be okay if something is done about the inevitible right now instead of waiting, as everyone in this country has a habit of doing, till the last minute. The Political Resnigs don't help the matter either and at the rate this government is going we'll never achieve the status of a Type 1 civilization. What we need to do is follow Hawaii's lead in alternate energy sources that's right I said Hawaii. And I quote, The State of Hawaii is actively supporting the development of a mix of renewable energy resources including solar power, biomass, hydropower, wind power, geothermal energy, and ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC). Hawaii's alternative energy . Looks like they are already on their way up the ladder to becoming a Type 1 culture. Originaly posted by Bandus quote::screams: We're gonna die! Ain't it the truth .
  19. Ah the blame game. No better way for politicians and companies to cloud the entire issue than to start pointing the finger at each other and/or other countries. After watching all the political talk shows I've come away with one thing: every leader knew that it wasn't a question of "IF" but when will this power grid failure would occur. And then to read and hear stupid statements like this: quote: "The grid needs to be modernized, the delivery systems need to be modernized. We've got an antiquated system." President BushHe knew already. They all knew. The North American Energy Reliability Commision told them so. There was a bill in congress not that long ago (a few months I think ) that addressed the issue of the power delivery system $350 million I think was proposed but it got watered down with special intrest items that no one voted for it. Example: the republicans put into the bill: Drilling for oil in the pristine arctic wildlife refuge. In other words, if you want us to vote for this bill we want this and we want that. What kind of crap is that. Why can't one single bill put forth in congress be left alone on the single issue of the original proposal. Needless to say the power bill never got anywhere. Speaking of drilling for new sources of oil. It's a moot point. In 60 or 70 years max there is going to be no more oil to drill for and to use for our power grid because the oil is being consumed so fast that it will be gone folks. You can make the futile attempt of drilling till this planet resembles a slice of swiss cheese to give a few more years of an oil supply but with the same inevitable result: it's going to be gone! What will we do then? At the rate we and this government invest in alternative fuel sources we are doomed. Talk about something that's gunna come up and bite ya's in the a$$ like this black out. There is a blame here ALL OF US are to blame for allowing this kind of behavior to continue. Not just to fix the energy problem for us but for our children and their children. We need to stop passing these kinds of problems down from generation to generation. We need to start thinking about the future and not just to our present material wants. Remember what we do or do not do now will affect the future either way. I did a web search for an estimate of how long oil is going to last and I came across this interesting article. FUTURE TIMES It's very thought provoking. I suggest reading the entire article. My search did come up with a few agreed statistics by 2020 we will all start feeling the crunch of oil shortage and by 2050+ there will be no more oil to be had and all of this depends on current predictions of global population growth. Anyway, I can go on and on about this but what's your take on all this.

In fact, I've collected every western that Clint Eastwood did and all Sergio Leone's works blah, blah. Anyway, Kevin Costner gets a bad rap (and I don't give a toss for critics, I liked Dances With Elves) but I went in to see a western and I didn't give a toss who was in it - except of course for Robert Duvall. This movie is damn good and I hope Hollywood starts making westerns again. The pacing was just right, the subtle violence well done and the gunfights reminiscent of classic westerns. If you like westerns - even if you hate Costner - go see this movie. At 2:18 runtime, you won't even notice how long it is. I plan on going to see it again - this time with the missus in tow. 10/10 (Scratching Head) Was there a movie I missed with Kevin Costner? Dances with elves? Wonder if you mean Robin Hood Glad to hear however it's not another WaterWorld western style. Other than that one, I've liked all the other movies he's made. My favorite being The Untouchables.

Acutally I wouldn't be a bit surprised if LucasArts didn't allow this to be made available just to give the game more exposure knowing how tight they are with their products before the retail release. Believe me when I tell you it needs alot of polishing up but it's still fun to play while waiting for the retail version to hit the shelves.
  25. Here's a little easter egg I discovered while watching Equilibrium a second time. The gun flash is the same shape as the cleric symbol pictured under the gun shot pic. what do you think? This scene is when he was caught with the puppy in his trunk. It's the only time I've seen it so I know it was deliberate.
