  2. quote:Originally posted by Race Bannon IV: Using the size of the desert as an excuse NOTHING has been found, and as further justification of the tremendous financial and emotional toll this cluster**** is taking on our country is criminal. All we are showing by not drastically altering our policy over there is that we are intransigent and mediocre diplomatically. The diplomatic blunders and the shameless way Bush sent his wife to kowtow to the French made me physically ill. Where is the coalition of the willing now? That said, pulling out is not an honorable option. We simply have stuck our foot in it and must find a better way to extricate ourselves. In doing that we also must look at what the true reasons for going over REALLY were. No American would have supported us going there to liberate Iraq, and now that we have no Saddam,no Bin Laden and no WMD's one has to wonder. Part of me wants them to fail and reveal themselves as the political opportunists I think they are, but this issue is much bigger than that I truly hope that the Bush people get this one right and soon. Too much is at stake. Ah, good argument but a few things we can't really say Saddam or Bin Laden are gone just yet not until we have definetive confirmation that they have indeed expired. All we've done right now is chase them into the shadows. And since we can't seem to get our hands on these two guys, what makes you think getting our hands on the WMD would be any easier. I for one can or cannot say whether there are WMD's becuase I just don't know as I'm sure the rest of us can say that and if you guys do say there are or aren't WMD's what physical evidence are you basing this on. The debacle that's going on over there now with the deaths of our brave soldiers is a military blunder and I think military command heads should roll over this not our political leaders (yet). What do I base this on, well according to CNN the military rounded up all the weapons from the Iraqies and do you know where they put them in unguarded dumps in the desert and they never bothered to blow them up. There the weapons sit for anyone with a suicide tendency to grab them up and use them. What are they thinking!? As for getting involved over there, why not. We would have had to deal with this sooner or later. You are forgetting one point, we are responsible for what has gone on in the middle east. What do I mean by "We"? The western powers, from the US to RUSSIA, from all the world wars to the cold war but mostly the cold war. Between us and the russians we've done a really good job over their using the middle eastern people as our pawns in the cold war game and fostering the kind of attitudes that prevail in the middle east now. From Democratic to Rebulican presidents allowing people in power over there we and the russians and all the other western powers knew if they were citizens in any country they'd be arrested as serial killers. So who do you say should clean this mess up that's gone over in the middle east for so many decades? It's called taking responsibility but I know in this country this idea has fallen out of fashion. As for Bush's wife sent "Kowtowing" the french it's no worse than Bill Clinton shaking the hands of Fidel Castro or Hilary Clinton kissing and embracing Mrs Arafat (a year after Mrs Arafat's Anti-israel speech). Not to mention the opportunities Bill Clinton had to nail Bin Laden noooooo he'd rather sit on his butt nailing interns. At least we have a president now that's willing to take the bull by the horns and kick him in nuts!
  3. quote:Originally posted by $iLk: what right do we have to attack a sovereign nation without a clear and present danger to ourselves? You are correct to a point with this. But it wasn't for the present danger we did this but the future one. Given time Saddam would have gone Nuclear. Remember Hitler. This country sat on their collective asses not wanting to get involved with this guy. If we had done something sooner with him (not just when there was a clear and present danger to ourselves) there would have been a hell of a lot lower deaths from ally casualties to the victims of the concentration camps. quote:Originally posted by $iLk: I personally feel that WMD will probably not be found Egads, you know how big Iraq is and how much desert there is. Those things could be hidden anywhere and the only way I can see for them to do a through search is comb the desert like they did in that wacky movie SPACE BALLS (remember that one). quote:Originally posted by $iLk: The problem has always been that there is politics involved and don't forget about religion too. This plays a very big part on what goes over there. We see it for political reasons but they see it as religious. Look at Saddam, this guy I'm sure doesn't/didn't have a religious bone in his body but when we attacked he called on all arabs to help in his defense in the name of allah calling for a jihad. I mean the guy couldn't just say "Can you help me out fellow arabs from these bullies I'm a nice guy and my politics are humanitary" you think they would have believed him with that!? Nooo so he played the religious card.

  5. Well since I started the Legacy games thread I've just realized it would be nice to have this thread to keep everything nice and tidy and in one location. I was checking out the Akella's web site (the same company that distrubtes the Battlecruiser millennium in russia) and came across this game they are working on due to be released Q3 2004 PT BOATS: Knights of the Sea. Check out that first screen shot. If DREAMCATCHER was smart (no pun intended ), they should pick up the distribution here in the states. [ 06-03-2004, 09:33 AM: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

What!! check it out Pirates of the carribean. The game is good visually and the game play. I'm still playing it.
  7. quote:Originally posted by Epsilon 5: Anyone else following the developpment of this game? It's a niche game (and a MMORPG) starting in the year 1720 when the 3 great powers were fighting for the Carribean sea, along with opportunistic pirates. Flying Lab Software is another indie developper who chose to NOT have any publisher and distribute the game via Valve's Steam. the game is broadband only, and only top gaming machines will handle the game, with ships said to have as up to 350k polygons each .. Graphics are looking VERY good, with waves and realistic reflections in the water (which is not even done worked on yet) .. just look at this , or some of the pics in this developper log Due out Q1 '04, but it will not have all the features implemented yet in Release 1 http://www.burningsea.com/ Damn, looks like Sea Dogs 2 oppss I mean pirates of the carribean (I still like giving that jab ). Looking at the screen shot water looks very nice but the island looks cell shaded. Hey, what's this, a ship with no cannons!? Egads a sitting duck . Looks Very Good Though. I'll keep my eye on this one thanks for the heads up on it Epsilon 5.
  8. Well this proves my suspicion that the site www.Gamespot.com is mostly manned by console fanatics by this tame response about the ROTK for PC internet or lan multiplayer. "The Return of the King looks quite impressive, and each version of the game looks comparably as good. The Xbox version, overall, looks best and boasts the sharpest visuals and the smoothest, most consistent frame rate. The GameCube version is similar, but its frame rate is more prone to fluctuation. The PlayStation 2 version is certainly no slouch, and, while its visuals don't look as sharp as those of the Xbox and GameCube versions, it runs pretty smoothly and boasts the same terrific special effects. The PC version looks great, too, but a top-of-the-line machine is needed to make the game look its best. You may need to run the game at a lower resolution than you're used to in order to get the action to move at an acceptable frame rate." I played the demo at 1600x1200 with all options set on high with no problem. The only system I could see having trouble with this game on the PC would be a 500mhz to 1ghz with a crappy video card. "Many players wished that The Two Towers offered a cooperative multiplayer mode, especially since you'd often find yourself fighting alongside computer-controlled allies. The Return of the King provides this option, and it works as well as can be expected. The challenge ramps up to make it worth two players' while, and, though there's not much in the way of new tactics to be found in the two-player version of the game, it's still inherently entertaining to go through these often incredible action sequences with a friend. The co-op mode is probably the least practical on the PC, where you'll want one player using a gamepad and the other using the default keyboard/mouse controls (which work about as well as the gamepad controls on all the other versions). Meanwhile, the PlayStation 2 version of the game uniquely offers the ability to play the co-op mode online and also supports voice communication using a USB headset. The PC version, unfortunately, doesn't have online support, but The Return of the King's co-op mode is better when played with a friend than with a stranger over the Internet, anyway. Also of note, the GameCube version supports Game Boy Advance connectivity with the GBA version of The Return of the King, which is simply used for the transferring of small amounts of experience points between characters." Who said you had to play with a stranger you get together with friends or family on the internet and if that was case why even bother having that ability on PS2.

Then proceeds to spend the rest of his life cracking a military grade encryption algorithm to get into the dev folder. Assuming they can crack the password to the machine itself. And if he's heard of PGPDisk, I doubt that he'd even try. And since when not in my office for a lengthy period, the kernel code is around my neck on a USB and encrypted drive - along with my medical information. Not to mention that even my PDA (an HP5455) uses a fingerprint ID for access. Then there's that little matter that my dev station is not connected to the Net without a firewall - which monitors any and everything going in/out and with NO auto-rules enabled (i.e. I manually say yes/no to ALL comms going in/out of that machine). And even at the slightest hint of a breach, my ass is parked at my comms station and staring at the the output from TCPview and ProcessView. No, I'm not in the least bit paranoid. Good God, whatever gave anyone that idea?Oh yeah, oh yeah, you wanna bet I can get that game from ya! I'll just wait for the release date and buy it that'll teach ya!!

Yeah on a laptop screen reading would be difficult at 1600x1200. I just got my new viewsonic G90f 19" perfect flat crt monitor and let me tell you holy cow!!!
  13. quote:Originally posted by Scrivener: Well, here's a piece of information I totally wasn't expecting. Personally, I hope the EA execs responsible for this decision rot in hell. Although the PC version of Return of the King supports cooperative multiplayer... it does not support LAN, internet, or any other form of network play. No... you have to play cooperative *on the same computer*!!!!!! I kid you not. Read the new Gamespy review. They saw fit to include online play for PS2, but not even the PC version... the apotheosis of online play!?!? Boy howdy did they lose my sell. Not to mention every other PC gamer who shops at my store Yup, just another example of game companies stiffing the PC gamer. It's bad enough that we have to deal with crappy console ports and their nightmarish camera man but now they are dumming up the ports! game companies that do that. And they wonder why PC game bootlegging is rampant why buy the crappy port with it's crappy camera angles when you can bootleg in protest. That'll make em listen! Damn I was looking foward to that game too. I have the demo and it's real sweet. Oh well, save my money for a real PC game like UC or X2.
  14. LION and LAMB Just saw this on CNN. What's you opinion. I'll throw in a quick opinion to start it off. All I can see it as is just another organization wanting to control things. Take for example the movie KILL BILL they claim because of the commercial and it's "R" rating it's marketing kids. I dunno about that. I've seen the commercial and it's just showing clips from the movie. How's that targeting children? And what's happened to the parents? Have they become dumb all of a sudden that they should need an organization like this to coach them about what their children should and should not watch or play. Besides, no matter how you market or rate the product, it won't stop a determend kid from it. Believe me I know. I use to be that kid . I'd like to also delve into another comment on their site "Just as attitudes about.....smoking have changed". All they did was price it out of the reach of kids (yes believe it not they'd still like to smoke but they just can't afford it) and in doing so has penalized the adults who have the choice and right to smoke. And all they've done is push it into the hands of Drug Dealers (smart move dumb a$$es). I know because every time I go past my local druggy corners you don't hear them just say want weed, want cocaine noooooo wanna buy some butts too alot cheaper also. Sure chase them kids to drug dealers where they can buy their cigarettes it's a hell of a lot cheaper.
  15. quote:Originally posted by Cruis. In: ive seen an ati 9800 xt or pro cant remember, probably xt for 499 u.s why would anyone pay this for a graphics card? unless they have a lot of money to spare of course. It's all a status symbol. Take for example a person who owns a Jaguar and one who owns hmmm let's see a Volkswagon. Both cars do the same thing they get you from one place to another. But the Jaguar gets you there in style as compared to the Volkswagon. Same with video cards. I have a Radeon 9000 pro and it does a great job but in the world of video cards it's probably considered a Toyota by now. But hey it does what it's suppose to. Max Payne 2 at 1600x1200 runs perfect. GTA vice city runs perfect as do alot of my favorite games. The only game it really has trouble with at resolution over 1024x768 is Jedi Outcast.
  16. Okay, got my new monitor today. I settled for the ViewSonig G90f. Egads this is a big screen. Well at least I can see a hell of a lot better now because I was using an old Dell 13" monitor I keep around for backup. Here's the monitor in all it's glory Viewsonic G90f
  17. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: While you folks are waiting, sink your teeth into these. Also, I sent the 60 shots to DC and they're sitting on them it seems. what can I say but "OH YEA!". Even a GPS system too. Well I'm assuming that's a GPS system in the first screen shot.
  18. Well I did find a very good site for video card reviews here are some links to it. Radeon 9500 v. 9700 Radeon 9600xt review Radeon 9700 pro benchmarks

  20. quote:Originally posted by RaptorRage: Any idea if the Radeon 9600 XT has better overall performance than the Radeon 9700 Pro? Seems those two might be close in price now, since the Radeon 9800 Pro and 9800 XT have replaced the 9700 Pro as ATI's high end graphics card. Well I was able to find this on the screen savers it's not the XT card benchmarks but the pro versions ATI 9800/9600 pro V. Nvidia benchmarks but I've read that the XT versions are suppose to be up to 20% better than their pro counterparts.
  21. quote:Originally posted by Eclipse: TO dredge this topic up again... Anyway I'm looking for a new video card and after looking over some of the tests it looks like the Radeon 9500 pro is the best that fits into my budget. Any opinions on ATI drivers? Good/Bad? 9500 egads check this out ATI DISCONTINUED PRODUCTS. I'd say keep saving that money and just get the 9600xt it'll be ranging in price from $199-$150. The Screen Savers did bench marks on 9800xt/9600xt V. Nvidia cards. 9800xt smoked them all and the 9600xt equalled or was a little better than the nvidia cards. I've been looking for that test on their web site for that benchmarking they did on the show but it's not showing up on their search. I'll keep looking for it though.
