The blurb in the newsletter I got said "AMD skunks Intel" meaning they trumped them (for those that play cards) or beat them to the punch in a much better way. I think drivers haven't kept up because "they" (OEM's) didn't think the AMD 64 would come about so they are sort of caught with their collective pants down. And here is the article where Tovalds say they (SCO) are smoking crack. Yep, from what I've read about the P64 is what you stated it will only run 64bit application on the basis that going backward compatible would not make an efficent 64bit processor. Only time will tell if backward compatibility is a hinderance on 64bit processing. As for the drivers, I've read about the 64 bit chips from AMD and Intel that were in development some time ago and they had prototypes already of this chip even I knew it was just a matter of a short time before they were available and I'm not even a hardware developer. I think they knew it was only a matter of time and just sat on their collective butts about it with the idea of selling more peripherals "Sorry but our current peripheral devices are not 64bit compliant you need to purchase our new line of hardware to take full advantage of 64bit processing" that's what I think is going on. Which would mean new video cards, Sound cards etc.. you have to purchase. Oy vey!!!
  2. quote:Originally posted by Cmdr Chavik: Check it out here. We haven't had a tech heavy article in a while. Nor have we had a major processor update. Just clock speed increases. I think this is exciting. And ya'll were all drooling when Derek posted about a super cooled Intel Northwood 2,2GHz CPU Note that the AMD 64 still runs 32 bit applications. I've been keeping my eye on this for some time now. but I'll stay calm and not overly excited till everything catches up with the 64bit chip namely DRIVERS!!
  3. I have used Game commander 1 and have GC2 but have not used it yet. I find the program works good with most games but as was stated there are some words the recognition system does interpret as the same so you must design your training accordingly. In fact, GC1 worked so well for me I had to give it up because everyone was complainging about me because of it (this was family members playing games online with me) and they threatened to stop playing against me . Has anyone used the ZBOARD? Taking the old idea of templates to the next level.
  4. quote:Originally posted by Sebbish: BTW you get 80kbs? I usually get an average of 40. My DSL internet provider must really suck. Ugh sorry about the second post but I forgot to address the dsl issue. There's a draw back with DSL the further you are away from their network station the DSL signal becomes degraded making a slower connection. I use Verizon DSL and I'm only 1/2 mile from the network station which is excellent in those terms. Hence good dload speeds.

I tried like 3 times and all 3 it stopped working at one point (stupid internet provider sure it's faster than 56k, but 56k was at least consistent!). Go here 3D Gamers I've been dloaded patches and demos for all my games from this for a long time. I dloaded Homeworld2 demo and it only took 20min for the 141mb file averaging out at 80kbs. I usually use that site too, but when I try to get the JA demo, it slows down to about 10 kbs. Their Tutaki download client was awesome, it was reliable and high-speed. I used it all the time (since their servers aren't that reliable sometimes). That new BitTorrent thing sucks IMO, it won't even start download for me. BTW you get 80kbs? I usually get an average of 40. My DSL internet provider must really suck. Yea, I tried BitTorrent yesterday also and was only getting 3kbs BIG SUCK!!! But I went and used the first mirror which is what I usually do with good results this was the Indiana(USA) (ftp mirror, courtesy of IHETS).
  6. quote:Originally posted by Race Bannon IV: Ditto,BTW has anyone seen the trailer for "Underworld"? Looks pretty interesting. It concerns a war between vampires and werewolves and Kate Beckinsale looks pretty hot in it. Yeah, it looks cool. I particularly like the scene where she uses the two pistols and cuts a whole in the floor for her own exit. Anyway, I did get the poop on the story line. It's got a Romeo and Juliet theme revolving around a thousand year feud between the Vampires and the werewolves. Kate Beckinsale (vampire) saves the life of a werewolf and they fall in love needless to say the vampire clan and the werewolf clan are not very happy about this. Need I say more.

Yeah, but how many times have you won? I think I've won a tenner quite a few times actually. Come to think of it, you've got a better chance of winning the lottery than being in an airplane crash. Besides, we're way overdue for an asteroid crash to be honest. Yea I agree on that statistically speaking of course. The universe needs an outlet to get it's rocks off and we are it!!
  8. Just downloaded the demo today and finished the demo (too short!!) but it's great graphics are a vast improvement over HW1. Too bad they didn't get Yes again for a new title track. Actually the back ground music is kind of reminiscent of Jon Anderson's Olias of Sunhillow which has a strong Indian influence also. Anyway looks like I'm going to go broke this month between Jedi Academy, Tron 2.0 and Homeworld 2 .

  10. quote:Originally posted by XOR: There is a way to obtain world peace its a simple solution really. Since we are weak flesh we have the flaws LostInSpace mentioned above (it has nothing to do with the possibility if we looked like a monkey man many years ago)although i dont see religion as a flaw, at any rate We are indeed flawed and thus we will inevitably try to destroy each other... so this is what has to happen, we need a common enemy, something that is not from our world, something alien. With that we would all become human again rather than a seperation of races as our "flawed" minds have come to believe(actually it was God's doing to stop us from createing the tower of babel)... THEN we can unite! and when we are all one we would be unstoppable!!! but when it comes to USA and Russia its good to have competition because it drives us to take those "great leaps" Actually, Religion is not a flaw but was a stepping stone to science. It was a way for us early humans to explain the earthly and cosmic events. The problem is that religion grew into a battle with science then and now. Like the notion of an earth centered solar system and the earth is flat etc.. If a scientist said other wise, they'd be fried at the stake no questions asked just a request that they repent and recant their statements. That's where the problem is. It's still going on today with those born again christian astronomer or scientist types. They are not in it for pure science just to find evidence to keep the vestiges of the old alive. I do agree that competition it is good for everyone. Where would we be today with computers if it wasn't for competition. Probably still playing with pong consoles .
  11. quote:Originally posted by Race Bannon IV: I actually bought the plans for this project at an internet website and as soon as I finish grad school in December, I will be building it. Anyone interested should PM me and I'll let you take a gander at the blueprints. The problem Lost In Space talked about should be covered in constructing the projecter housing. Cool. The concept does work though I have to say that. Too bad they don't make a molded 3x optical grade hard acrylic for this or better yet optical glass coated with that substance which improves light transmission much like they do to telescope and projector lenses but then you are talking about $$$. I've looked into the Molded versus Hot pressed fresnel lens and I'm 100% that my lens is hot pressed and explains the PVC irregularities. Still even with the best plans the light being projected is like 60%-75% lost (rough estimate). Think of it as going to a movie and sitting there with a pair of dark sunglasses on. I did come across another concept too. Making your own LCD projector which looks even more promising. The problem is getting the best LCD module. There are two schools of contructions on this. Some use the overhead projection (OHD) method (which you can pick up real cheap from surplus stores or Ebay) and a LCD panel that's made for this (was used by schools and Presentationists but has been phased out due to quality LCD projectors) which again you can pick from surplus stores and Ebay. The other is using (if you can find it) a surplus Rear Projection lens (there are two out there a Delta IV 5" and Fujinon 4.5" lens I can only find the Fujinon one in surplus sites right now) and a small LCD display module anywhere from 1.8"-5". The trick to this is for computer game and DVD viewing you really need a high res module 640x480 or 1024x768 with 16 or 32 bit colors but I cannot seem to find any that are that small with those resolutions. Also it must be an Active matrix panel not passive (passive is old school and the refresh rates suck making artifacts and ghosting. you can find plenty of info about this on the web). Here are two links you might find interesting LCD projection 1 LCD projection 2
  12. I have good news and bad news. Okay here's the poop on the bad news. Not good. It did project and the TV was alot better than the computer monitor being that it is brighter but the quality of lens wasn't up to par. The lens is too soft to keep it completely flat and focused through the entire picture and the PVC material is too imperfect (internal waveyness throughout). Now the good news and I mean HOLY CRAP. Being dissapointed in the projection I thought what other use could I put this lens too. Just for the hell of it I held it in front of the monitor and took a look to see (using it as a page magnifier). Well let me tell you!!! You know what it's like going to a movie theater with a very very big screen and sitting in the front row well that's what it looks like. The damn thing fills your entire field of view. I tried JK Outcast first with it an it was like actually being in the game. The only drawback to this is that it is only viewable by you but just think of it as if you put put on a pair of enclosed 3d glasses. My nephew came running over when I told him about my other use for the lens and when he tried it I couldn't get him away from it and I quote "it's like being in another dimension!". You actually have to move your head up and down, left and right to look at all the items of your HUD. Again too bad for the lowsey material imperfections because they are still noticable this way too but once you get into the game you don't pay attention to it. I'm going to try the one they sell in staples for $6 it's a Bausch and lomb Fresnel Lens 2X molded (not hot pressed that I think my lens is) optical grade acrylic but it's only 2x not 3x hope that doesn't reduce the field of view. In my opinion using the lens this was sure beats the heck outa of a projected image even though you are only enjoying the view .
  13. Original post Scrivener quote:You are legally obligated to allow a woman to join Boy Scouts but it is completely unacceptable for a man to join Girl Scouts. If you have it one way, you MUST have it the other. In this way, discrimination is a necessity of fair and just society. I agree with this 100%. Not that I would want to join the Girl Scouts but if you open up any men only organization to women you must do the same for any women only organization. The only thing with this is that most men have these male only organizations to get away from women (wives girlfriends etc..) even for just a bit and women know this so what do they do run to the government crying discrimination and have the government make a law to open these organization up and there ya have it no more hideaway for us guys. quote:If some cops (of various skin colors) rough up an uncooperative black drunk, the white cops were racist and unjust while the black cops were not.Agree again. This is not just a problem with the perception of white cop or Black cop but in society in general. Case in point: An African American goes up to another one and say's "What's up niggah" but if a white guy does this a race riot insues. Damn see we still have not gone past that ethnicity crap. One thing I have noticed in NYC is that it does not matter what color the cop is it is just the COPS V. The Public. quote:The government is not supposed to support any specific religion... so it supports atheism (a religion). Supporting 'no religion' is, in fact, supporting a religion (a set of beliefs).Ummm, have you looked on the back of your dollar bill? What does it read? "IN GOD WE TRUST". That's why I laugh at all the crap over the Ten Commandments statue that was placed in the lobby of a government building. You even have or had to (not sure if this is done anymore) swear to tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth while placing your hand on the bible in court. Atheism is not a religion but a point of view rather more of a philosophical view point based on the evidence or lack there of on the existence of GOD any GOD. The government stance has nothing to do with atheism but rather the stance that there are many religions and beliefs and in being fair should not support or show support for one religion over another. In doing so, would give more power to that religion over all the others. Again that begs the question why is there on a dollar bill "In GOD we trust". Curious that isn't it especially when you think of how much they've lost their marbles over that Ten Commandments statue. As for me I don't like religion. It has kept us back and has caused so much trouble for so long no telling where we would be now scientificaly and exploration wise. Take for example what religion did to Galileo, Kepler, Copernicus etc.. That's why they called it the Dark Ages. We lost hundreds of years of enlightenment because you were deemed a heretic and blasphemer if you had the slightest inkling of going against religious dogma. I feel the same way over our political party system.
  14. Just saw this on Tech Tv's tech live about this lawsuit against linux I added another link with some more info about this. Also SCO's web site has been hacked to death of late I wonder why . Could this be the begining of the end for this open source OS. TECH LIVE SCO V. LINUX SCO V. LINUX
  15. Update: The lens is on its way. Should be here either tomorrow or saturday.

  17. This one takes the cake. I first saw this on TechTv's program TechLive what do you think. And before you say it, yes it is legit.BUTT BRA. If you wanna see this in action, just do a google search for it.
  18. quote:Originally posted by Most: quote:Originally posted by Cmdr. WeeGee: Diamond Microchips! Yippie!! I can't wait for them. Can ya'll imagine that? Diamond Microchips? Think of how powerful game engines could be then. Geeze, think of the practical applications for it! AutoCad could be 4 times as powerful than it is now (Now thats what I'm talking about!)! Wow!!! LMAO...tell me your not serious? Yes, he is.. As discussed in the SC article link quote:Diamond, it turns out, is a geek's best friend. Not only is it the hardest substance known, it also has the highest thermal conductivity - tremendous heat can pass through it without causing damage. Today's speedy microprocessors run hot - at upwards of 200 degrees Fahrenheit. In fact, they can't go much faster without failing. Diamond microchips, on the other hand, could handle much higher temperatures, allowing them to run at speeds that would liquefy ordinary silicon. But manufacturers have been loath even to consider using the precious material, because it has never been possible to produce large diamond wafers affordably. With the arrival of Gemesis, the Florida-based company, and Apollo Diamond, in Boston, that is changing. Both startups plan to use the diamond jewelry business to finance their attempt to reshape the semiconducting world. Hmmm, I smell a great a marketing tool here. If Sega was smart they'd jump on this and come out with the first diamond chip console called Sega Gemesis......

  21. quote:Originally posted by Hades: Always, always wear clothes to the interview. People say the first thing they look at is your attitude, but it's always whether you're wearing clothes or not. On a personal note, I recently applied to a gas station, the guy wanted me to stand out by the pump, clean peoples windows for them, and help them pump their gas if necessary. My thinking is, if you can't pump your own goddamn gas, you shouldn't be driving anyway. Needless to say, I didn't take that job. But, you should always wear clothes. That's important. Well wearing clothes only gets you so far depending on the field of interest if you are seeking a postion as a porn star for instance. Anyway, in this economic period jobs are rarer than alien abductions.
  22. quote:Originally posted by Cmdr Nova: Holy damn, I like the idea. I mean, I'm in the planning stages of redecorating and overhauling my bedroom... This'd be nice to go with the TV and computer. Yup . Like I said I placed the order from b-adeals yesterday (saturday) and can't wait to put this lens thru it's paces. If it's all it's cracked up to be I'm buying a crap load of pop corn and going to OD on my DVD collection then on to the pc games .
  23. quote:Originally posted by Alpha Moose: hmmm, the quality, at the b-adeals one doesnt seem that clear Actually, I find that site quite honest compared to the many other sites claiming unprecedented quality some even go as far as to show projections with all room lights on and plasma, hdtv quality screen shots, yeah right. I'm not that stupid I know there's some degredation of quality. As for the screenshots, don't forget those are jpegs and low quality for web posting it using a cheesy 13" TV not computer monitor actually the images resemble the quality I've seen on bootleg movies where the guy sits with his digital camcord. Anyway, I'm gunna play the guinea pig here and give in to my curiosity (which I never do with these kinda deals)and ordered the Frensel Lens from b-adeals and will let you guys know how it goes. Figure on about a week (delivery time and setup) before you hear about it one way or another.
  24. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: You can find it here (40 MB). Looks pretty good, but man, its a resource hog; and thats a rolling, non-interactive demo. Can't imagine how much worse it could get in real-time. Thanks for the download link. Very Sweet. And who says the Space Sim genre is dead . I had totaly forgotten that X2 was in the works. I played the first one X:beyond the frontier and I really enjoyed it. I was engrossed in that game for some time too. What an improvement though with this one. The ships architecture are defintely B5 inspired. And I see that they kept the same Launch Game interface as with X1. You could even create your own ship logo and not just restricted to the ones they give you in the Launch options. There's on thing I did appreciate in the X1, like your game distances are realisticaly vast and can take a long time going to gate to the station outposts etc, was the inclusion in the game of a Time Flux Device when set would envelope you into an accelerated time zone. With that set and you hit the after burners makes the distances bareable.
  25. OOPPPSSS made a mistake I meant inches not feet. So it would be 100-150 inch max projected image size. Actually, I have a better link than the ones listed in the above post 3x 7x10 PVC Frensel Lens.
