Now they give him control of military applications too? And his influence is expanding even further? All this just for a buck? Must be ... there really isn't any other excuse. And what's next, Mister Gates? NORAD maybe ... where the BSOD materializes thanks to a memory overload as 600 ICBMs launched from ... ahhh, who knows? The computer crashed before we could find out.
  2. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: Let me repeat this again so that nothing is missed in the interpretation. KENDRICK HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH DAMAGE ON THE SHIP APART FROM HANDLING REPAIRS AND AUTO ASSIGNMENTS OF SYS ENGINEERS. AND DURING ANY/ALL SYS UPGRADES, THE PRIMARY SYSTEM WILL BE DEGRADED UNTIL THE INSTALLATION OF THE NEW ONE IS COMPLETED. ITS IN THE MANUAL. I've never had this problem but, in case I ever do, one clarification, please: If an upgrade gets stuck at 99%, is the installation considered "completed" ... or will the primary system still be degraded?
  3. quote:Originally posted by LostInSpace: Check this out http://www.wirelessdevnet.com/channels/pda/apr072003.html Do you suppose engineers at NASA plan to use this "software" with any of their space probes?.
  4. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: And why is your profile still not updated? He's been busy grading Academy training missions. I hope.
  5. Can you imagine a world where Gates' OS is used in automobiles, cell phones, and microwave ovens? Forget the crashes. What about the constant defragging? Could your cell phone catch a virus if you were called by a hacker? A nightmare. But some people's nightmare is probably Bill Gates' dream.
  6. quote:Originally posted by aramike: ...just to dip in and clarify the radar thing, and someone please correct me if I'm wrong because I'm working from memory here... Most commercial airliners don't carry anything other than a doppler radar. Heck, most commercial airports don't have radar at all. They have what looks and acts like radar, but all it's really displaying is returns from transponders. I think I remember hearing that they don't use actual "targeting" radars due to the fact that they would interfere with public services. Check this out: Almost anything you ever wanted to know about RADAR
  7. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: quote:Originally posted by Kasey Chang: Uh, SC... There's NO WAY that's from Quantas, since civilian airliner don't have "target radar". You're thinking target in terms of a combat radar. Thats not the term is used in civilian aircraft with a radar system. Any return on a radar screen can be designated a "target" but a target(ing) radar would more likely be one that takes target data (velocity, closure, and heading) and feeds it to a weapons system computer. If the aircraft had at least four engines, though, it would probably be a bomber. And if it had propellers ... well, maybe it was a Russian Bear.

  9. quote:Originally posted by Brownh: When i use the Joystick or the mouse i can move up and down, but when i move the joystick left or right or the mouse left or right my ship rolls clockwise or counterclock wise the only way i can turn is to use insert or del key, how do i fix this? You can also try flying a ship like you would an airplane. Pushing left or right on a stick will operate the ailerons, causing the plane to roll. In a fighter, the pilot usually rolls the plane to put the target at the top of the canopy (the lift vector), then pulls back on the stick to center the target. To turn left in a space craft, you'd simply roll 90 degrees left, pull back on the stick until you've turned as far as necessary, then roll 90 degrees back to the right.

  11. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: Milkshape3D is the best modeler for newbies and pros alike. It is also the most extensible due to its ability to export to various formats and for implementing specific formats. You folks need to STOP recommending modeling packages because you have NO idea wtf you're talking about. Unless you can export to the game's .3D file format - which you can only do via MAX plugins - and which NO other modeling program supports, it is a WASTE OF TIME. So KNOCK IT OFF!!! Ok, this I understand. My hard disk is cluttered with graphics programs, mostly because they all save meshes in their own particular format. And most plugins or 3rd party converters never work exactly right. And I assume that, even though Milkshape3D can save in a number of different formats, the BC *.3d file is not one of them. And there is neither a converter nor plugin to support conversion to the BC file. Is that correct? And is it also true that G-Max (whether or not it saves in the same format as its big brother) lacks the plugin support for exporting files to BC? And, finally, did I read it right ... is there a possibility the BCG CD will contain utilities for the modding of ships and/or scripting of missions?
  12. It was General George Patton. He said that you don't win wars by dying for your country; you win wars by making the other bastard die for his country. The profanity belongs to General Patton. Come Hell or high water, I'll be around for graduation. (That profanity originally belonged to my poor, sainted mother but I've adopted it as my own.)
  13. Maybe I missed it somewhere in here but did Jasca ever get a copy of the BCM manual? Or did he always have it and just wanted a printed copy (presumably to make use of a search engine)?
  14. quote:Originally posted by Remo Williams: Hey those are cool! Anyway just thought I'd let you know there is a young man going through the academy right now that will be assigned to Gamma when he graduates. You might want to stop by the academy over at the Prime Fleet HQ Forums and say howdy. If you're talking about me, I'm around, straying a bit from the Academy on my off time. If you're not talking about me, then just disregard this reply. ...Either way, howdy to you all.
  15. quote:Originally posted by LostInSpace: Yah about the Battlestar Galactica. I watched that show in it's first run and enjoyed it. It sure beat the pants off that Buck Rodgers series that cropped up on tv around the same time. Well I did enjoy it until the cast change and they wound up on earth. It's like the writers went brain dead on it.It wasn't the writers' fault. It was an executive decision. The program was popular but, because of the emphasis on special FX, it was also expensive to produce (computer-generated FX weren't practical until STNG). So the Suits figured they could keep the audience and save big bucks at the same time.
  16. Considering the quality of most Star Trek simulations, I'd say Viacom should counter-sue.
  17. quote:Originally posted by Kasey Chang: If you're the only person who posts to YOUR weblog or mailing list or whatever, you're surely NOT off the hook... I think it basically lets all bloggers off the hook. Oddly enough, it doesn't seem to recognize that some websites charge a fee and, consequently, don't meet all the criteria mentioned in the article.
  18. How would modded ships function under multiplayer? In many other mp games, such craft are the bane. Rogue players enter a game with souped-up fighters and disrupt play for as long as it takes the host to identify and boot them. I'd hate to see that happen here. I suspect tolerance for such behavior would be low.
  19. An SC? How is it that an insignificant little shuttlecraft can descend into the Hades that is Stargazer and survive, unscathed, while my fully upgraded Warmonger, shields at full strength, quickly succumbs to the atmosphere and dissolves like a sugar cube in hot tea? Could it be there are powers at work here beyond the norm? Powers that allow an undefended shuttle access to Stargazer whilst a fully armed super cruiser disintegrates without mercy? I don't suppose it would be a good idea to try and use the shuttle's tractor beam, though.
