You mean the first person view? If so, like the interface itself, it has all been radically revised.

I mean PERSCAN / assign marines to ship defense/patrol screen(s). The reason I'm asking is one of the most often stated complaints (from infidels) about BC series is the reliance on text lists to convey information, thus I was kinda wondering if SC has done something about that. Was it still just like existing PERSCAN, or did you went to dots moving in RogueSpear-type 3D wireframes yet?
  2. I dunno... Isn't Earth / Sol to Pluto or Jupiter / Sol much faster, and still 30% inflation?

I did a couple runs and got solid 30% profit. I just need more capital to fill up the cargo bay. Carrying only 3000 units of Radine helps a lot. I can probably carry only 500 as the trip takes only like 100 units each way any way.

P.S. Jascatar, fix your sig to include your system profile information!

  3. Okay, here's a Resnig story from yours truly.

*EDIT: Turned into more dramatic format, enjoy.

Commander's Log: GCV SAN FRANCISCO is patrolling Lennen in Sirius system. Having destroyed the Insurgent base in orbit in a previous sortie, the ship is now waiting in ambush to destroy any Insurgent ships that arrive.

TO: Incoming! Terran Insurgent BC Mk 2 just came through the Seegan wormhole.

FO: Shall we set course for it, sir?

CMDR: Don't bother. Looks like they're coming toward us. And he brought friends.

TO: Confirmed. A Questar and a Violon have appeared from the Polaris wormhole. They look like Terran Criminal faction.

CMDR: Have to take it down all the same. CE, how's the repairs on the tractor beam coming?

CE: Not good, sir. It'll be another six minutes before it's done. I got all 5 engineers on it already.

NO: In 6 minutes the battle will be over.

CMDR: TO, set main gun to 100%, PTA to 100%. Select STS-Sunflash as initial missile. Any one seen CO?

MO: I think Resnig is still in his quarters. You did order him to take a bit of time off, right?

CMDR: I guess I did. *Yawns*

TO: Violon is launching fighters. BC and Questar are HJ'ing toward us.

CMDR: Change PTA to 50%. Put our six to the contacts, then give me a 2-second burst on the retro and go zero thrust. We'll let them overshoot.

    FO: Aye, sir.

    SAS light started flashing.

    MOTHER: Intruder detected.

CMDR: We arleady have 4 marines on patrol, but better not taking chances. *bleep, blurp* All right, got the orders to prep 4 more marines.

    BLAMMO!

MO: What was that? I think I'm going to be busy.

MOTHER: Marines reported intruders on deck 3. Light casualties.

FO: BC and QUESTAR coming out of HJ in three, two, one... now!

TO: Firing missiles and matching speed.

CMDR: Excellent. Fire as you bear!

PTA fire starts to rake the BC, and the main guns joined in a second later. BC's shields flared, then died, and the shots started punching through the hull. Three seconds later, BC exploded as one of the shots punch through the main reactor.

    FO: Yahoo!

TO: Don't celebrate yet. Fighters coming in.

CO: Intruder alert! Marines ready to repel boarders!

    CMDR: Was that Resnig?

    MO: Sure was.

    CE: Yep.

CMDR punches commands on the console, pulls up marine status display. It doesn't look good. Mother has ID'ed at least 6 intruders onboard, and four of the marines have been wounded, one seriously.

CMDR was about to flip back to combat commands when he noticed all the marines started moving instead of searching.

    CMDR: What the?!?!?!

MO: Intruder in Medibay! *laser fire*

    CMDR: Resnig! Come in!

CO: I'm a little busy right now! *click*

CMDR: Why, that SOB... *laser fire* Argh!

CMDR takes a laser bolt in the back. Most of it hit the chairback, but he was seriously scorched.

    CE: Intruder on the bridge!

CE and others pulled their wristlasers and fired back. The intruder ducked out of sight.

    FO: You all right sir?

CMDR: No! *Groans in pain* just take care of those enemies.

TO: Hostile QUESTAR has been destroyed. Targetting VIOLON. Executing evasive pattern delta six.

CE: We need to get him to sickbay.

CMO: With Intruders roaming the corridors? No way.

TO: VIOLON has been destroyed. PTA is engaging fighters.

CMO: Marines are reporting more casualties. At least one dead. I'm getting some orders from Resnig to the marines... Something about the wounded report to sickbay and the rest of marines take over the search duties.

CMDR: That idiot! *grunts in pain* The rest of the marines need to warm up their combat suits! *grunts* If he assign them as is they got nothing more than billy clubs! Oh, that bastard! Get me to the terminal...

CMO: CE, you better watch the door...

    CE: Already on it...

CMDR started punching in orders, overriding Resnig's orders to the marines, but the conflicting orders seem to paralyze the marines.

Suddenly the bridge door snapped open.

CE fired 3 rapid shots into the open door. A return shot sent him scurrying for cover.

    An object bounced into view.

CMDR turned around and saw the object.

    CMDR: *screams* RESNIG!!!!!!!!

The screen flashed white, then turned to static.

    ---- original post follows:

I was hanging around Lennen / Sirius. I took out the Insurgent station there in a surprise attack (turns out you CAN kill a star station with a Warmonger!) So I've been hanging about to see what enemies will drop in.

I was moving about a bit and engaging the odd enemies when my SAS turned yellow. Intruder onboard! I already have 4 marines prepped for combat and searching, so I set 4 more to prep. The other two were wounded in previous action and were recuperating in sickbay.

And Resnig is supposed to be in his quarters, resting. I sent him there a WHILE back.

I got a lull in combat, so I went to Perscan. We're down to 1 intruder and 1 prisoner, but 4 marines have been wounded. The preps are going along fine.

So I kept blasting enemy fighters, then check PERSCAN.

Then Resnig announced MORE intruders onboard! And he's assigning marines to search duty. Wait a minute, why isn't he at his quarters? Tactical / Crew... and sure as heck, he's in ops! He decided to go to work, and undid all of my existing assignments! Instead of having 4 marines on prep and 4 marines searching (3 now, 1's dead), he sent 3 of those on prep to search duty!

While viewing PERSCAN, my screen flashed red. Someone just SHOT ME on the bridge! I didn't die though... apparently my other officers drove the intruder off. But I'm down to 60%.

There are now SIX intruders onboard, and my marines are dropping like FLIES. 2 are now dead, and 4 are wounded, 1 seriously.

Then Resnig sent ALL the wounded marines (now just ACTIVE, not READY) to medibay, and sent all the UNwounded to search duty (just ACTIVE). I quickly countermanded him, but the orders already went out. Now I have NO prep'ed marines on search.

I was about to issue order to jump back to Lyrius when an intruder killed me on the bridge (finally!).

Other, more heavily damaged systems, were repairable, but the ones that got stuck at 99% couldn't be fixed, not even at a station.

I wouldn't worry about 99% vs 100% repairs. Only when things get damaged to like 89% will you see noticeably degraded functionality (I think).

Still, I have had no problem fixing everything up to 100%.

2: - There were no enemies present during most of these occurences. It often happened, for example, when I was trying to approach Majoris station, a neutral unit... just me, the station, and the ODS. Target lock kept failing, and there weren't even any indications of a nearby claoked ship.

Just because your officers don't see any cloaked ships doesn't mean they don't exist. Also, they could have "flickered" the cloak, causing you to lose lock, or engaged EMD.

3: - again, it wasn't for lack of parts... even when I'm onvoard a station and having them do the repairs, the repair gets started and then, sometimes for no apparent reason, gets put on SUSPENDED status...

This is WAD, AFAIK. The station's repair crew is separate from your ship's engineers, and priority you assigned for one disables the one you assign for the other. I.e. every time you dock/undock, reassign all the repairs.

  5. I'm with Race Bannon here. Monica Belucci is too good looking.

A SEAL team is NOT meant for fixed firefights like that, which is exactly the way it went down. No Rambo "shoot a bazillion bullets at me and I never got scratched" action here...

Though I would have thought they have more sniper or Claymores than that... and that scene where they just stood up and WALK FORWARD, guns blazing is about as ridiculous as I remember...

Actually I got back such a shuttle once. I basically chased after it and tractored it. I got "Attempt recovery (Y/N)?" prompt. I answered yes, and the shuttle is in my shuttle bay (nobody onboard).

  7. Okay... I command a Warmonger, and I know it has 5 main guns, and it has max range, computed range, etc. etc. etc.

But where is it documented that how much damage the main gun does (presumably at 100% power)? PTA turrets are documented quite well... But nothing about the main gun(s)?

I tried searching on "main gun", but I get entries about main gun on APC, how main gun is disabled, main gun zoom wishlist, and things like that.

  8. This question is about the piloting AI.

As related in a different topic, I lost my SC2 due to an intruder (and a botched recovery attempt). Now I have only 1. I wanted to deploy another mining drone on one of the various moons (Lyrius/Sirius to be specific) and grab cargo. One marine was like slightly wounded (76% life), so I sent him to SC1 as I armed the rest of the marines and keep searching the ship.

I launched SC1, and told him to recover a cargo pod. Then I target the shuttle... The guy won't go! He keeps circling the pod at about 40 km, but won't get any closer. I tried halt and resume, I tried cargosweep or collect item, no effect. I finally told him to RTB.

When SC1 redocked, I told a flight engineer and a different marine to report to SC1. Neither of them were wounded. I launched SC1. They recovered the pod and deployed the drone with no problem at all.

So my question is... Did I solve the problem the right way? Or is there another way that would have worked... arguably better?

On a similar note, I've ran into cases where the shuttle simply circles and won't do its job, either to land back onboard, or to collect pods, tow targets, etc. I tried ordering HALT, then resume, no effect. When RTB didn't even have effect, I just ordered HALT, then I went to tractor it and pull it back onboard.

Related question: Can a shuttle tow another shuttle/fighter? (My guess is yes)

REALLY related question: can a shuttle, towing a fighter/shuttle, dock with the mothership? Or can it only deliver the tractored craft to a friendly base?

Reason for asking: I was wondering if I had another shuttle, I could order it to tow the other shuttle back, since the onboard pilot can't even land the darn thing. I suspect I just have to recover it with tractor myself...

  9. But SC, that mainly applies to autopublishing of someone ELSE's content, right? I mean, it's like you're not responsible for insults traded across this forum (not that there is any). It's like the way the ISP is not responsible for stopping P2P.

If you're the only person who posts to YOUR weblog or mailing list or whatever, you're surely NOT off the hook...

  10. So military transports bring in weapons/ammo, assets (shuttles, fighters, etc.), and traders bring in minerals/misc. items, right?

Is there a schedule for those? Like every X minutes? Or is it more of a probability table, like X% chance every Y minutes a ship Z will show up at jump point W?

I'm trying to figure out what are my chances of pulling out a siege all by my lone self.

I respect that fact that your trying to find information about this game.. but there is no fun in knowing EVERYTHING about a game 'cause then there will be no fun

Not strictly true, Kalshion. Everybody knows the rules of chess, yet chess has persisted as a game for hundreds of years. In a game as complicated as BCM, knowing some of the mechanics that goes into the game and how it interacts with the player adds to the understanding of the mythos and the game, which can only add to the enjoyment of the player. At least that's my opinion.

Besides, I think most of my questions are pretty DETAILED into the mechanics of the game that mere experimentation wouldn't reveal the answer that I would like... Or maybe not.

  12. I was in Lennen / Sirius attacking the base (again). I took down the ODS already. I took out 1 Defender fighter. That other Defender won't go down, so I went after a Raven instead. Took that one out. Then a hostile Battlecruiser (forgot exact Mark) passed me. I didn't even bother getting a lock... just turned the ship around and just STRAFED it from bow to stern without a lock. It blew up. Then my SC2 launched itself... RED. An intruder has gotten through... with THREE marines onboard. (Heh?) There's also a LOAD of red icons on the scanner... Looks like the base has launched the full deck of fighters.

Then all of a sudden my computer "froze".

Only... it didn't freeze. It just went from about 15 frames a second to 0.15 frames a second (approximately). I hit F1 and waited... In a few seconds, the HUD went away. So the program is still running... Just horribly slow.

I saved the game (full save), then resume'd. It's STILL slow as heck.

I exit BCMG, reload it, and resume'd. STILL slow as heck.

Hmmm... I was going to try restart the computer next.

Update: I restarted the computer, and tried resume, it's still one frame every 5-7 seconds. Exit and tried restore, still same problem.

So I decided to "tough it out". I want to see if this condition persists. So I let the battle continue... Then I got hit from enemy fighter. Shield brightens...

The frame rate went back to normal!

    Weird, heh?

Any way, I wiped out ALL the fighters and defending ships at the station after an extended battle...

Then I went after my lost shuttle. It's moving a bit in space. My PTA was engaging it, so I turned PTA off, then I turned on tractor and see if I can snag it to recover it. I tractored it... then the target was gone. Wait... Why is the SC2 icon still red? I looked at status: DESTROYED. Apparently, the shuttle did a AB JUST as I came into tractor range. My tractor beam was damaged as well, and the shuttle's dead (along with the 3 marines inside!)

Now I have to replace SC1 AND OC2... AND 3 marines.

  13. I've gathered that the star stations resupply themselves regularly, and SC did say they are resupplied by freighters. Hoever, this seems to mainly apply to "trade items" in all the previous messages.

My question is... does the resupply also apply to the defense fighters that below to the station, as well as the Quick Reaction Force (the ships)?

The reason I am asking... I am commanding a Warmonger so I don't have cloak, but I *do* want to capture a station. So my plan was to reduce all the defenders by teasing them away from the station, then kill them a few at a time. Then when the defenders have been eliminated, I'll go to resupply (restock missiles and such), then come back to wipe out the station with a flood of missiles.

However, my plan won't work if the station gets back its stock of fighters and defense ships when I leave.

So, how often do the fighters and/or ships get regenerated? And by how much?

  14. I see the supercruisers have 4 turrets while the heavy cruisers have 8 or even 10 turrets. My question then is...

Do they have the same tracking logic? (i.e. directed by the TacO?) I can see that they do different amounts of damage (the CA's do like 50 where as the SCA's can do like 125/150).

By the way, are there existing abbreviations for carrier, super carrier, heavy cruiser, and super cruiser? Or can we use the common "naval" designation like CV, SCV, CA, and SCA?

  15. Hmmm... Good point. I was trying to attack the Insurgent base at Lennen / Sirius, and I decided to take out the ODS first. The base launched no less than 8 fighters, like 3 came after me, and the rest went after a different ship that jumped in later. I took out the ODS, and the fighters never really hit me. I just do some random weaving from side to side, up and down, circle... and the shots stop coming... Hmmm...

SC is right, AI needs "solid lock" to shoot, but the human does not.
