  1. Thanks -- that should be very helpful!
  2. I bought it because I wanted a game in this genre and I did a web search and found an ad for it many months ago. I preordered then and got it today. I'm totally lost. What I have seen of it fails to impress me. The impressive features are inaccessable without some kind of tutorial, which is nonexistent. To a follower of the series, I'm sure it's fantastic. To a newbie, it's a flight simulator without the fancy graphics.
  3. ... alternatively ... It'd work just as well to get some BC guides and an explicit list of what I'd have to condsider differently for UC.
  4. Well, I'll take what I can get. I've tried the game on the various modes, and except for the immediate action mode where I managed to shoot at some things that had red names (and even blew one up, hooray for me!) I was pretty lost for direction. Now, I've read through the entire manual, but it mostly left my head spinning. There's apparently a lot going on in this game. I'm not an idiot, but I learn best by doing something, and the layout of the manual (sans tutorials) doesn't lend itself to this well. What would be most helpful is just a little "getting started" guide. The game is confusing immediately - You're thrown into character selection, which includes choosing your ship and gear. I really don't know one ship or gun from the next, yet. I don't see where to access that information. But worse is choosing my starting location! Lots of mysterious numbers and letters, signifying some kind of coordinates, I'd assume, but what's the difference between one and the next? I can handle "stick with the defaults," which is what I did. This puts me in space or on a planet, in the ship I just picked out. From there I've even managed to use the manual to get myself moving around a bit, but I haven't gotten so far as knowing where to go or what to do, or how to get to anyplace that's out of my immediate view. If any of my above concerns can be addressed, great. If anyone has *any* other pointers, great. Best of all would be if someone was willing to write a little guide, step-by-step from starting the game to finding someone to engage in Roam or Campaign modes and then a sample of how combat is played out. I do understand that's asking a lot... but gosh, I'm lost. Sorry for my extreme verbosity.
  5. Heh - I kind of double posted in the newbie forum. I'm not sure where the question should be, but I assume it's there. If I could delete this myself, I would... Any help still appreciated.
  6. I just got the game - and as much as I'd like to give my impressions in response to Derek's request, I'm definately not yet qualified. I can't quite figure how to get going. Are there any newbie guides yet? Would someone be willing to help me get started? If I look up a BC guide should I expect most of it to apply to UC? Thanks... -CJ
