The images provide unambiguous visual evidence the moon is geologically active. "For planetary explorers like us, there is little that can compare to the sighting of activity on another solar system body," said Dr. Carolyn Porco, Cassini imaging team leader at the Space Science Institute in Boulder, Colo. "This has been a heart-stopper, and surely one of our most thrilling results." I wonder how long before man is filling up their spaceship's fuel, water and oxygen tanks at Saturn.
  2. I'm a dad!!!!!!!! My new daughter was born on Dec 27th just before midnight!! Zoe Marie Anderson 4 pounds 1 ounce. Mother and baby are just fine. Zoe is two months early and will have to spend some time in the special care nursery at the hospital, but she's breathing fine with no oxygen help. As soon as she gains a pound or so we can take her home. Best Christmas present ever.

    Night at the movies: The Goblet of Fire

    I just saw it today. I liked it very much, though not quite as much as the last one. I guess there was just too much going on with the tri-wizards tournament and all for them to fit eerything in, but overall they did a pretty good job. Much scarier for the youngsters I'll bet though. BTW check out David Tennant (the new Doctor Who) as Barty Crouch Junior!!!

    I believe expense is playing a part in all this as well. The newest ATI card (the X1800XT) has a MRSP of $599!!! Now lets buy 2 of them and a crossfire mobo and a processor and.... Now I'm as much of a hardware eek as the next guy but its just getting crazy! Its just not worth it anymore to keep playing the same games over and over with slightly better graphics and much higher system requirements. I'll probably get an xbox this holiday too. Oh, and that new ipod looks sweet too!

  7. Just tried new version and the Violon's PTA's are working again. I think it was more than a matter of just not seeing the shots. The shots were so fast that they weren't doing any damage either. Well at least you know what's going on.

  9. I wasn't sure when it began but I just checked all versions. 1.00.01 and 1.00.02 are fine. The problem starts at 1.00.03.

Before the performance increase I was able to cloak and pull up along an enemy ODS with the PTA's on and watch them slowly blow it to bits. It took a bit of rotating to set the optimal place to have at least 4 turrets firing at it. Can't do that now though.
  11. Sorry to hear Jag, I've been through 3 dogs myself. The last one was the toughest. Nick (yellow lab)was more than a dog. I found a great dog through rover rescue on the internet. There are so many dogs that need homes.

  13. Well after running the game for a few more days and trying every audio, video and game adjustment I can think of I am finally very happy with the game stability on my system. The thing that seems to have worked for me is lowering the resolution from 1280x1024 to 1024x768. I put sound back at full acceleration, video write combining back on etc etc. At 1024x768 with 4xAA and 16Xaf and all the effects at max, the game looks and plays just great!!
  14. I've been playing for a while in roam mode and have been having crashes on and off (roughly every 15 to 20 minutes.) I can't put my finger on what is causing them though as they seem to be random crashes. I did see something odd in the Lennen system though. I set waypoints for my shuttles to go to Moon 01 and deploy mining drones and watched as they flew there. About halfway through their decent I saved the game and then resumed. I switched to Tacops just to watch the system for hostiles while the shuttles returned. The shuttles deployed their drones then re-appeared on screen but at planet Lennen instead of Moon 01. The game crashed a few seconds later but after a few tries I was able to create a non crashable save and continue my game. edit: I just tried this again from a fresh game and got the same result. 1 Launch Violon from Borealis as Insurgent. 2 Assign Marines to shuttles 3 make waypoints for shuttles to deploy drones on moon 01 4 launch shuttles and watch them head for waypoints on moon 01 5 observe shuttles on moon 01 heading for waypoints 6 switch to tac-ops 7 give shuttles RTB order 8 watch as they re-enter space at Lennen planet instead of Moon 01. ** note: I did save the game a couple of times during my test run [ 08-21-2005, 01:46 PM: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

    First Impressions

    Ok, I've had a few hours of play now so I can comment a little bit. First off the graphics. The game just looks awesome. The metallic reflective look on the ships and space stations is great! Yeah, I know this DX9 effect gets used to death in many games, but it really fits here. Everything in space is so improved... HJ effects, shield effects, damage effects, space backgrounds, ship and station models etc. Nice job all around. There are some new space station models that I haven't seen before very nice! I've only spent a few minutes planetside but I was really impressed with the ground textures. If I can drag myself away from the space combat side of the game I'm definately going to have to spend some more time on the planets. Sound - Very solid, nice explosion/effect sounds great music and I've always loved the background crew chatter make me feel like part of the collective.... Stability - I was having a bit of an issue with crashing but lowering the DX sound acceleration seems to have stopped it. So far so good since then. Gameplay - What's to say, I've been playing for several hours now and I haven't even scratched the surface of the things to do in the game. so much to do, so little time... sigh..

Updates to 2D cockpits Aligning HUD in wideview blk 40 cockpit HSI instruments lighting in down view (panel 100) Graphics anomaly popping up when damaged in 11 oclock view in blk 40/50 pits Changes to allow the cockpit buttons more visibility at night. Some missing ATC fragments in the debrief list added. Remove the vehicle magnification option from the MP screen. Instruments lighting keystoke Shift-Ctrl-L fixed Reset Track IR keystroke added Alt-C, T Minor fix to formatting of connection speeds Correct weather help button test. Fix for airbase distance.     Shuttle Discovery Lift Off

    Bah!! The entire shuttle fleet is grounded again. A huge chunk of foam fell off the external tank and another re-design is needed before a shuttle will fly again. At least it didn't damage the Shuttle this time. I have a small piece of shuttle tile and its really amazing how light and fragile it is. Its a wonder they don't have massive damage on every flight.

    Thanks all!! Yeah, the changes are already coming. The computer room is in the process of changing into a baby room. First I have to clear out a bunch of old stuff to make more room elsewhere for the new office. I almost feel like I'm moving or something.
