  1. I have to agree with Jaguar that there are a few people here who will complain that Bush is crying wolf, but if something did happen and he didn't say anything they would criticize that also. I don't mind the government coming out and warning us that there MIGHT be a possibility of an attack on U.S. soil. It helps remind me that we are at risk and I should use some common sense by not opening every cooler that doesn't belong to me that I see. There is a large number of people in this country that don't have enough common sense, so they have to be warned about this type of thing, whether it ends up happening or not.

  3. When you sell items to a station, you look at the amount the station SELLS it for and think that is how much you are getting instead of looking at the price the station BUYS them for.
  4. Thanks for the answers, SC and Shingen. I just wanted to make sure that if I ended up playing the same game for a few years, I wouldn't run out of enemies to fight.
  5. quote:Originally posted by Shingen: A warmonger is a heavy cruiser. It doesn't have any fighters. Only carriers and supercarriers have fighters. Thanks. I figured I couldn't when I purchased a FC and all it did was sit in my cargo bay taking up space, but I couldn't find an answer elsewhere so I decided to ask.
  6. I am posting these here because I'm not sure where to post them anymore. 1) What happened to the New Commanders Forum? 2) I've re-read the manual, appendix, and revisions last night, and I searched the forums today, but couldn't find the answer to this question (I probably just missed it). I have Warmonger that comes with 2 shuttles but no fighters. Can I purchase a fighter for it or am I limited to just being able to replace my original craft that are destroyed? 3) Does the single-player UC universe start with and maintain a fixed number of NPC's, or does the number fluctuate during the game. (What I mean is when I destroy a NPC, does a new one get created elsewhere in the universe to replace it? This is probably a question for the SC) [ 06-18-2004, 01:07 PM: Message edited by: Matchoo ]
  7. You fly your UNARMED transport into Gammulan space to look around....I think I was there about 3 seconds before my ship was destroyed.
  8. You beam yourself down to a planet and can't figure out how to get yourself back off.... - or - You land you ship on the planet, get out of your CC, then later on you think your ship is broken because you can't get back in using 'Alt-E' (I later remembered '/' works much better)
  9. You think you're being fired upon by the enemy and realize it is actually YOUR pta system firing at them instead.
  10. My wife and I are in the process of being certified to be foster parents, and last night we went to our fist of eight 4-hour courses. The entire time was spent discussing the development cycle of children from when their born until they are adults. Many things must happen for a child to develop their physical, emotional, congnitive, and mental abilities correctly. If these things aren't done at the right times through life then it can cause long lasting effects that require a lot of work and time to repair. If their 4 children are in foster care, then the state has decided that the children's welfare isn't being properly met and they have legally have the right to remove them from the situation. The parents and the children can then get the treatment they need, and when sufficient progress has been made then the children can return to the parents. To have any more children before this happens is a REALLY bad idea. As soon as the child was born they would be put into a foster situation, and even though the child would be taken care of, it would prevent the child from being able to make critical advances in development such as bonding with and learning trust their parents. If the judge is allowed to make this decision, it could eventually escalate to the point where people aren't allowed to have children because they aren't smart enough, or don't make enough money, or are handicapped, etc. So even though I understand the situation the judge is trying to prevent, I don't think that she should be allowed otherwise it could create a far worse situtation down the road. this is just my 2-cents, though..... 11. Maybe it's not a battery in the CC that gets charged, but the batteries in the shuttles. If the solor power setting in logistix is at 10, then the shuttles get charged normally. Anything less than that and the shuttles recharge at a slower rate. Maybe at the lowest setting they don't even get charged at all...I haven't tested this, though, because I have yet to find a place where you can tell the battery status of a shuttle.
  12. I've read the manual a few times and I guess only remembered the stuff I was interested in at the moment. Sorry. I read the manual again and saw that the shuttles use a rechargable battery that all the systems use, and it needs to be closely monitored or I'd end up drifing in space. This makes perfect sense. I still haven't found any place to get the status of the battery, though. I would think it would be logistix, but on my pc the power button on the logistix screen disappears as soon as I open logistix. Is there a way to look at the remaining battery power on the shuttle? Also I know there is a detention hold to hold intruders in, but if I send Resnig there will he go directly to jail, not passing go, and not collecting $200, or will he be just visiting? Thanks for your help.
  13. Does the CC have a brig that I can throw Resnig into to that next time I try this he won't be able to reach the life support? Just kidding. I figured that the shuttles had life support, I just wasn't sure if it was active when docked while the CC's power was down. I'm thinking that the shuttles don't have unlimited power to run their life support, but when I go to logistix on the shuttle, the power button disappears. I'm guessing this is how it is supposed to be (although maybe I'm wrong), and I've searched the game for any other place that might tell me the power status of the shuttle, but I haven't found one yet. The shuttle cargo bays didn't have any minerals for a reactor, so I'm guessing it charges some batteries or something when it is docked. I'm fine trying to figure it out on my own, but I also wouldn't mind a hint or something to point me in the right direction. Thanks.
  14. I tried it last night. I put my CC on the surface of earth where it was night, then I moved my entire crew into the shuttles(except resnig) and shut down all power. Resnig's health slowly dropped, but everyone else stayed at 100%. I still can't find anyplace that shows the current power of the shuttles, though. On a side note, when Resnig's health got too low he hopped on one of the shuttles and got his health back. This made me kind of mad because I was trying to suffocate him, so I took my CC into space and tried to beam him down to the planet in the middle of an insurgent base, hoping they would swarm around him and kill him. That didn't work either because his fatigue factor was 100% and every time I ordered him to go to transporter room he would change himself to be off-duty. Finally I just self-destructed my ship....That will show him who's boss....Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
  15. Sorry, I'm not trying to be lazy. I haven't had the time to try it lately and I was wondering if someone knew the answer already. Hopefully I'll get a chance to try it tonight. I'll also be more careful not to ask questions I can try for myself. Thanks.
  16. If I park my CC on a planet with all systems shut down, and move my entire crew into shuttles, will the life support in the shuttles keep the crew alive? Also, do the shuttles use fuel or do they get their power by charging when docked?
  17. The other night I was playing UC and stumbled upon some cargo pods. I collected them, sold the contents for a few million, and used the money to buy diamonds. I then took the diamonds to another station and sold them at a higher price. I made a 25% profit doing this. My question to everyone out there is what is the best item they have found to do this type of trading with, what are the best stations to use, and how much do you generally make? 18. I tried it again last night, first in space, then on Earth, then on the Earth's moon. The tow ship took me to a station all three times. Must have been just a random crash, so forget I brought it up. Thanks.
  19. I know my pc shouldn be able to run this game, even though it does. I don't know if this issue is specific to my pc, so I don't want to report it as a bug unless someone else can recreate it. The problem I had is my CC was on one of the moons of Uranis with a dead engine. My tactical computer was destroyed so I couldn't get to a shuttle to tow it to a station, so I called a tow ship. Around 15 minutes later the tow ship arrived and asked me if I still needed a tow. When I pressed 'Y' I got a lovely view of my desktop.
  20. I've had UC for 3 weeks now, and after playing it for a while I am beginning to understand a lot of the concepts. I first played as a commander of a transport, then I moved on to some of the larger ships, but the other night I decided to roam the galaxy fighting evil as a pilot in a L-Fighter. I had a lot of fun doing this and I think it really helped me learn a lot about the game. My question to all the vets out there is what do you think is the best way to learn the game. Is it better to start out as fighter pilots, etc., and move our way up to commanders as we learn more and more, or should we try starting out as commanders and see how we do, or should we just play whatever we feel like playing and hope we learn the things we should know? (I'm sure how we'll do varies from person to person. I was just wondering what you guys think and how you got started.)
  21. What about me getting attacked as a paramedic? I've read the manual and apendix, but other than the part where it says it's a violation to attack a paramedic, I don't remember it mentioning it anywhere else. I guess mabye it's just a matter of whether it's only the law-abiding castes (military, police, galcom, etc.) that follow that rule or if it's every caste.
  22. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: For one thing, I doubt that the tow ship request will work on planets. Did the tow ship arrive? And no, I'm not putting in any such feature. Use your solar reactor, thats what its for. [/QB]I was told that a tow ship had been dispatched, but I really wasn't too far into the game so I decided to self-destruct instead of wait for the ship. I also had the misfortune of landing on the planet at night so I couldn't use my solar reactor. I am still learning the game, so a lot of times I'll purposely put myself in bad situations just to how I can get out of them. It's helping me answer a lot of the questions I've had. Thank you for the effort you put into the making the game better and for answering our questions.
  23. I was roaming the galaxy last night as a paramedic caste. I used the wormhole to travel from Regis IV in the Regulus system to the Omega Centauri system. When I dropped out of hyperspace on the other side, I started getting attacked by someone, so I left. Will certain castes or nations still attack even though the appendix says it is a violation and no alien nations will attack the paramedic class? ** please let me know if the following post should be somewhere else and I'll move it. thanks ** My CC was on the surface of Mars with a dead reactor. I had 4 shuttles in my bay, but I couldn't launch them because I had no power. I called for a tow ship, but while I was waiting, I wondered if it would be possible in future versions of the game to allow the engineers to somehow tie the ships power system into a shuttles power system. There shouldn't be a lot of power, but maybe enough to run a couple systems for a few minutes. (e.g. enough power to launch control so I can get my own shuttle out of the bay to tow the CC to a station.)
