From what I remember, they were trying to blame it on a movie, The Matrix, and had nothing to do with any computer or console game. This guy needs to get his facts straight. That's where SC has it lucky. It's going to be a few years before they can blame anything on him. "Next on the news, a 15-year old boy is being charged with RANDOMing Mars. When asked why he did it, he said 'I did it many times in the Battlecruiser games and it looked like fun."
  3. Time to resurrect an old thread..... I went ahead and bought this game yesterday for $20 (PC version), played it for a few hours last night, and I have to say that so far it has been awesome. The creators did a really good job at capturing the look and attitude of Riddick (Vin Diesel doing the voice really makes it good). The graphics are really good, the gameplay is fun, and the cutscenes are great. I'll have to finish it and give my final opinion, but so far the reviews have been pretty accurate and I would suggest it to anybody who hasn't tried it. Below are a couple of my favorite cutscenes so far, but if you are planning on trying it and don't want it ruined, don't read on. In the opening cutscene, you see Riddick walking through a frozen wasteland, and some creature stalking him. Riddick goes into a cave and the creature rushes in after him, only to be knocked in the face by Riddick when it enters the cave. By the time it regains it's composure, Riddick is gone. It travels into the cave looking for him, and spots his coat on the floor. It stops to smell it, and that's when the camera changes and you see Riddick (his knives stuck in the wall to hold himself up), in a shaft above the creature. Riddick folds his arms across his chest, comes down on the creature, and proceeds to kill it. He then makes a comment about it not being safe in the dark. It totally felt like I was watching one of the movies, and I was tempted to go pop myself up a bag of popcorn. In another one later in the game, Riddick is running towards this deep pit that he has to go down. Right before he gets to it, a guard jumps in his way and starts shooting at him. Riddick tackles the guard and they fall down the shaft. On the way down, Riddick says 'Its not the fall that kills you.'. They get to the bottom, and Riddick lands on top of the guard, crushing him. Riddick stands up, brushes himself off, then looking down at the dead guard says 'Its the sudden stop at the bottom." That's totally Riddick...
  4. wow. I guess I better delete my internet cache so I don't risk storing something that shouldn't be stored.....
  5. quote:Originally posted by street: quote:I disagree. The primary target of the war are Terrorists. We have absolutely no quarrel with the good citizens of Afghanistan and Iraq. Concerning IRAQ: Which citizens do you not have a quarrel with?...The 51% or so cooperating and supporting the occupation.....or the 47% who oppose it? I would guess the 51% who are supporting it and those in the 47% who oppose it but aren't taking up arms against our troops.
  6. quote:Valve's Half-Life 2 survey clearly shows over 20% of PC Gamers would not be able to run Battlefield 2.Why would Valve be doing a survey about BF2? "Can't play BF2? Buy HL2 instead, it will run on your GeForce4 card....(*note - Internet connection REQUIRED to play singleplayer.)" Funny how I can play BF2 but not HL2 because I don't have an internet connection I can play on. Wonder if Valve ever did a survey to find out how many PC Gamers wouldn't be able to run HL2 with the internet restriction. I had a GeForce 440MX when 'Deus Ex - Invisible War' came out. I paid the $50 for the game, but when I tried to run it it didn't work because the card didn't have the necessary hardware requirements (I check the requirements a lot closer now ). It sat on my shelf for 7 months until I was able to purchase a new card. I understand the frustration of not being able to play a new game because of hardware limitations, but I also understand now that adding the backwards compatibility adds cost and time to the project, and moving forward requires you to leave some behind. Hopefully we are getting closer to a point where the graphics will be as life-like as you can get them, and fewer video upgrades will be required to keep up the the latest games.
  7. quote:Originally posted by Jaguar: That is exactly what it is SC, the DC mod, polished. same gameplay, and some of the "features" are rather irritating, but it is in essence, same old, same old. Oh, and the C-4 works like it did in the original BF1942, it blows the vehicles sky high, which is rather fun to play with...LOL I like the C4 in BF2 better than in DC. In BF2 you can actually stick it to stuff, which makes it great for sticking a bunch of C4 to a boat, driving it under a bridge, then jumping out and blowing up the bridge. It's also fun to stick it on enemy aircraft and blow it up when they fly away.
  8. quote:Originally posted by Darkling: This is insane! They now have a Keboard specifically for BattleField 2. I guess they think this will be BIG! I think the keyboard is a gaming keyboard that comes with different templates you can lay over the top of it for different games, as well as game-specific drivers to map the keyboard to those games.
  9. quote:Originally posted by Cruis. In: you could play deus ex more than once, I couldn't. even though deus ex was great/addictive and I loved it to death in all its coolness, I can hardly play through games again. The first Deus Ex was really fun for me because it had a lot of RPG elements that allowed me to play it how I wanted. The second one had too much taken out of it so it could be released on the X-Box as well as the PC, and that really turned me off of that one. If they come out with a Deus Ex 3, I'll only buy it if it was like the first. If it's anything like the second then I'll pass. quote: In fact this game series is the only game I keep replaying. UC is the first of this series that I have played, and I really enjoy it. It does seem to be lacking a little bit (for me) when playing in first person mode, but I'm hoping that UCAWA will fix that. Either way I'm still hooked.
  10. quote:Originally posted by Cruis. In: well since all game ideas (basic premise) have been used already, what more is left to do.Give more variety on how to play the game to give it a better replay value. Many of the games are too linear in the fact that there is only one way to go from point A to point B (a lot of the time point A being the start of the game and point B being the ending credits.) For me, the first two Splinter Cell games were like this. After playing them once, I really didn't feel like playing them again because nothing really would change. Deus Ex on the other hand was a great game. I could play it through over and over, changing my character's attributes and how I played each time. Some times I would go in guns a blazin through the front door, and other times I would try to sneak my way through the ventilation system. I'm not saying that shooters are bad. Developers just need to combine them more with more RPG elements and open-endedness so the player feels that they are not just being led through the game, but that they are actually part of the game. Just my .02
  11. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: ...just what we need, yet another shooter. When will the madness stop? Seriously. Does stopping the madness mean that in Battlecruiser Next Generation, when running through our ship chasing intruders in 1st-person mode we will get clubs (or fish) instead of guns? j/k I'm a fan of first person shooters, but I agree that most of the ones coming out are just carbon-copies of existing ones with a few tweaks here and there. This makes it much more difficult to choose an unknown game because you just don't know how similar it is to the six other identical ones you have on your shelf collecting dust, unless you get a demo for it, and even then what they show you in the demo may not be what you get in the end product. I guess this is why I usually buy a sequal to something that I have tried and enjoy rather than trying something new (which reminds me.....11 days to Battlefield 2 )

If there is anybody here interested in trying it out, let me know and I will e-mail it to you. Mission generator, eh? Sounds like it's time to dust off the SP version of Universal Combat. Does it come with a readme file? Yep
  15. I created a simple mission generator program for roam mode in UC. To generate a mission, the program loads a mission template, which contains the text of the mission, then it replaces certain items within the template with actual items from a tree list. The templates and tree list are read from a text file, so are totally customizable. A couple examples of what these mission templates look like are below: quote:Play as the commander of a {COMMAND SHIPS.TRANSPORTS}. Start at {STARSTATIONS}. Fly to {PLANETS} and deploy your mining drones. Sell the minerals you mine to any station(s) of your choosing. The mission is complete when you have earned {CREDITS} credits. quote:Play as the commander of a {COMMAND SHIPS.HEAVY CARRIERS}. Start at {STARSTATIONS}. Fly to {PLANETS} and destroy {NUMBERS} enemy bases using {TACTICS} tactics. The items in the curly braces will be replaced with actual items from the tree list. The text file only contains a few missions templates that I came up with to test it, and some data to build the tree, but this forum is full of intelligent people and I'm sure we can come up with some really fun ones. If there is anybody here interested in trying it out, let me know and I will e-mail it to you. I don't have any way of putting it where others can get it, though, so if it turns out to be useful and enough people want it, maybe someone here will put it out where others can get it.
  16. Why not just write a quick computer program that randomly picks a start location, end location, and objective. e.g. -Play as Military/Commander/Megaron -Start at SOL/Earth/Galcom HQ -Fly to POLARIS/Polaris 1 -Destroy 3 insurgent bases on the planet

  18. Having the appendix available in-game would be very cool, but I would much rather have SC working on getting his other games out. (any word on the release date for UCAWA?)

  21. What you need to do SC is allow people to pay $5 to add their e-mail address to a list of people to e-mail when your games are available for download. That way they when they are sitting in a business meeting and they get an e-mail on their phone that the game is released, they can say they have a family medical emergency, leave the meeting, and take the rest of the day off so they can go home and download the game, playing it through the night (taking breaks only for the occasional nutripack and bathroom break), until sometime later they look at the clock and realize that they are late for work....
  22. quote:Originally posted by Freyar: Does anyone else have issues with SHOOT having trouble initializing the Microphone Wizard? I had problems with it, but I discovered that you can use Windows to set up and train the voice recognition so you don't even need to use the microphone wizard. I haven't tried it on UC too much because I didn't want type in all my own commands and I knew someone here had it available for download, but I have tried it on Rainbow Six 3 and Star Wars:Battlefront and it works great. I love being able to tell the AI in Battlefront to follow me by saying it rather than pressing F1. It does a very good job of recognizing the voice commands. Now all I have to do is get my e-dimensional 3D glasses working with my ATI card and I'll be set.
