  1. guys, go back a page and read my posts, they dont say much, they say something many of you are missing.. The Solar Reactor doesnt do anything!(as far as any of us can figure out, including you) The Solar Panels give you power regardless of the state of the Solar Reactor. i like the turret theory tho.
  2. Im realy trying to figure this out, but in the manual it simply says defend=defend and escort=escort. Thats not much to go on, could you give me any clarification on what each does? And is there a way to keep a ship on an order, for example on Defend, even after an engagement has occured or do you need to give the orders again? Also, opening the command menu, selecting the ship you wish to give orders, then selecting "defend command craft" puts them on Escort, not Defend. -edit- Also, when you said they do what fits thier profile, are you talking about the loadout you pick when you luanch them? ie- CAP,SEAD,SAD

  4. I think i figured it out. There is a difference between Escort and Defend. But its not described in the manual, and the game misleads you also. Whenever i was telling my fighters to defend me i was hitting tab-esc-f1 for escortdefend me, which sets them to escort. Or i was bringing up the command menu-fighters-orders-defend command craft, which also puts them on escort. But if you click command-fighters-orders-defend-priority-yourship they go into defend mode and dont run off! I can wupp booty now! --edit-- Argh! It wont work for the other cruisers, carriers, etc. It also seems once the fighters do get a target(from an enemy attacking me) they go back to being insane.   7. ah, i figured as much. I said exactly what i felt and i get flack for it. It is your game, your board, i respect that. But this post is for first impressions of the game so i respected you and this game enough to tell it straight, like u said "no fanboy" First of, PlanetSide(the game) sucks, big time. I said that, clearly. And I did say i was clueless on it. I also didnt mean to imply that that way would be better, i was just tossing out an idea. The mineing drones, check thier load in tactical/loadout/SC/drones. I recommend clicking on a SC that is in your hold to be able to acess the drones tab. To find them click ZOOM in tacops, then support units... then 4 mineing drones with no distinction. To extract them make some waypoints for your SC, the last WP being 'extract drone 4' or maybe thats drone 1? err 2? no thats gotta be 3. As for the math to plot a circle, ill go look and when i find it ill post it for you. viva la interntet! Im not saying the orbits are bad, just the fact that the planets rotate and the stations arent just sitting stationary is amazing, when i noticed they were moveing i left msgs on every answering machine i could think of saying "holy shit you gotta check this out!". As for the AI, i admit, im a noob still. But if im missing something you sure should lay off a bit becuase i have read the manual, apendix and forums over and over and over. I like the fact that even though i have read everything, there is still a ton i have to figure out for myself. With that said, my experience with the AI is as i put it. Threat assessment to my knowledge means - determining the significance or extend of an impending danger. Now, imo, a ODS halfway across the map that cant move is not a threat, and therefore shouldnt be attacked. Maybe im missing some huge part, where i can make them not attack, maybe not, i have no clue. And realy, you shouldnt expect me to, its not detailed exactly how AI will react to situations(which i like). So the ShipA jumps to its enemy ShipB, and i mean right into fireing range, instead of say, just out of fireing range where it could ready its guns after dropping out of HS without getting blown to bits, then commence with battle. The manual states "Once the transition ends, the ship will emerge a short distance from the destination and the jump anomaly will collapse." Its says nothing more about exiting HS other then the engines recharging. quote:How many EPs have you amassed in one game? What is your current rank? Have you completed the ACM scenario? This reactor used a mineral called Radine as fuel for anti-matter conversion. The reactor was also capable of using energy absorbed from a solar source. Stronger materials for building the external hull of ships were also developed. Technological research had reached a new level. -------------- ??? This makes me think there is a way to power the engine by using the SR and NR together. Now my head just hurts. PS- dont decided to do more testing during the campaign if you havent saved in 2 hours.
  9. I didnt see this in the vcf and dont realy know where to post this, so i guess it goes here I finaly made a good amount of credits and was intrested in upgradeing my pimp ride. So i looked in the Appendix but the part about the Upgrades doesnt work, its also unreadable, the black text blends in. I only have the option of Storm Carrier even after swithcing the base class. and it wont show me any of the info for that anyway. I tryed redownloading the file, still same problem. I have tryed searching for info on this "bug" but nothing. i have searched for info on upgrades and found nothing(happily). But seriously, how do you all know whats going on? is this just me?
  10. im gonna come down pretty hard here, my name is hardboot... dont take offense, im just blunt. The AI is crap! Parts of it anyway. Everyone, enemies, pilots, marines are bloody stupid! examples= FC just take off after any hostile no matter how far away or if its next to a base... i thought i heard someone say "threat assesment".. shya... Im sitting next to a base, with fighters deployed, turrets online, and Enemies still HJ right into the "net of death", they blow up before they even come out of HS. It doesnt make any sense, NO ONE no matter how retarded would do that! And its not that hard to make them NOT be dumb. It seems that although you are makeing a 'sim' sometimes you sacrifice logic for ease of codeing. AI, Citys/bases, the menus, blah blah.. Cargo holds.. Why wouldnt i be able to store what i want where i want? its not like one bay is refrigerated. Hyper Jumps, it looks like the ship is cloaked.. but it doesnt matter, you still have a good 5 seconds where the ship cant fire but can easily be destroyed. I thought nothing is real, you can pass through a planet but lasers wont pass through you? Space Stations do a quasi orbit thing... they move back and forth.. i dont get this at all, it would actualy be easier to just throw in the math for it to travel in a circle around a point(the planet its orbiting). plenty of room.. Sure the areas are huge but does it matter if its empty, useless, unplayed space? Shrink the outer space regions if needed to enhance perfomance, no one will notice. Planetside, while having such huge planet is rad, the FPS part is so.. crappy it doesnt matter. To me(and it seems most including you) the best part is the tactics, the huge battleplans you can do. And while being in your CC comanding it is imo the best, its still fun to go get dirty! So shrink it up a bit, add loading zones. Hmm.. (my advice, even if ya dont want it ) Look at "PlanetSide"{SOE}, while the game sucks, the way they did the world is great, and imo, would work great here! Huge continents that are seperated. Use loading zones on the edge of the map instead of warp gate garbage. Then the ground could be more detailed terrain wise/texture wise, the bases could be more detailed, the vehicles and marines would travel better, and trees and such might not(im clueless here) be such a drag on performance. If they can, i can!!! or should be able to.. i should be able to booby trap cargo, i should be able to board ships, etc etc. Whats with the enemy?! Everytime i get my ship fully repaired and get everything ready for a nice assualt, i get a fleet of 3 or so ships that suicide into my nice little hideing spot next to a base just to luanch all thier missles with fatal to damage my ship at the expense of thiers..AAAHHH im not that important!!!!! Mineing drones need thier number next to them in the TacOps so i dont have to wait 20 min for it to reach the shuttle when i have more then one deployed on a moon/planet. Whats the use of plotting a nice course when you only have a 1 in 4 chance of plotting it right? o yeah, they should either stop when done mineing or have a HALT cmnd. blah, i know there is more but thats the stuff i find very important.   12. wow, i mean.. wow simple, u have 2 winkeys, take the left one off the keyboard so it wont get bumped. then u still have the right one to hit if needed. Otherwise, go DL a good version of Linux. sheesh
  13. hey all, im gonna jump in on this ok, bare with me i suck at writeing things down cohesively(spl?). Also, i list things so it looks very factual, but trust me, this is just my knowledge, and im a noob! -------------------------- * NR = the nuclear reactor onboard your ship. * SR = the solar reactor onboard your ship. * SP = the solar panels outside your ship. * SRHUD = the solar reactor output reading displayed on the bridge. * SROUT = the solar reactor output reading displayed in Logistics/Power. * SRPWR = the solar reactor power reading displayed in Logisitics/Power. * SRLVL = the control in Logistics/Power used to direct power to the solar reactor. * CCU = the central charging unit onboard your ship used to recharge your FC. ------------------------- Sytems that will not function without the NR- Engine / Hyper Drive Weapon Systems / Ion Disrupter PTA Sytems Nav Systems Tactical Operations CommLink ------------------------- You can control your craft without the NR, but its like being stuck in VTOL mode with no HD. When you shut down the NR your shields will fail, but can be turned back on under solar power. The SP will absorb more power depending on your ships orientation with the sun(duh) and pass that solar power through the SR to feed the ship. The SRLVL does not affect the SROUT, SRPWR or the ability of the SP to gather solar power, you can turn the SR OFF and still feed your systems with solar power. So what does the SR do besides gobble up some of its own power?!?!?! My guess is it functions like the NR and changes the solar power into something, but i cant figure out what... and after 3 hours of watching all systems, minerals, fuels.. im just not sure it does anything at all. Im seriously starting to think the SR is nothing or bugged. FYI- Rechargeing FC - The CCU uses Radine to charge the craft, they can be charged as long as the CCU has its 5 units of power, regardless of wether the NR or SR have power.   14. goto dreamcatcher/3000ad/universal combat/soundfx/other there are 2 "beep" .wav files in there, its just a guess.. Just make a backup of the file and try it, should be fun =)

Hey all, ive been playing UC for a couple months, read the manual/appendices/tutorial a billion and 5 times, spent hours on this board.. but im kinda stupid, so if i step on toes or rehash old stuff, my apologizes. First off, i love this game, FINALY something besides a spaziod twitch shooter to play!(ya ya.bc, i didnt know!). The depth and openness is great, blah blah, just insert general butt kissing here . Love it. Ok, here are something that im hopeing i am missing or misunderstanding or just dont like or think would be nice. Why? Becuase im hopeing this game keeps going, keeps getting better. AI- Why is it that everyone(marines, captians, pilots)are so bloody suicidal! Now it makes sense to me that a commander of a carrier, cruiser,etc would have the freedom to make thier own decisions, even if its a stupid one. Although it does realy get on my nerves that if i jump into a system with an enemy base i am garuteed to lose a ship, becuase one of them will HJ to the base before i can issue him the 'defend/escort me' cmnd. And for my marines or pilots to disobey orders to run halfway across the galaxy/planet to attack something.. well, its just not right. A simple system of an "engage range" would do the trick, or "engage only if attacked" type of thing. Planets- While i love that they are huge, the terrain textures for bases/citys are.. strange. They look great from up high, but in close its.. erm.. ugly. The bases themselves are extremely spread out(building to building, not base to base). While i think i understand why trees dont have collision detection, it would be nice if they did. Cargo- I dont like it! I should be able to store what i want where i want! Luanch Bay - Why is it i cant capture enemy fighters and fill an empty luanch bay? Is it something with how they dock? different systems for different ships? Brig - How can an unarmed prisoner escape from a cell? Ive been in jail, and there is no way of getting out.. unles you are part of the Fantastic Four. Im just guessing that by 3030 the prison cells are even more secure. It would also be nice to have a 'Prison' button in tactical(like the medibay one), to be able to quickly monitor it and assign marines, etc. Done. Some of this may be trivial, but the better it gets the more people playing the more money the better it get the more money and some private servers to keep the community alive.
