  1. Big patch was released a few days ago. It allievated a lot of the major problems I mentioned in the OP. The game has had some pretty sizable optimizations and is not as much as a resource hog. (though it still is..just not as bad) Same thing applies to the connection problems, it's a lot easier to get into a game...but you will still get randomly disconnected or fail to synch. Which brings me to the external lobby...it's still there unfortunatly and it still takes an absurd amount of time just to get into the pre-match lobby....but not as bad as before. Still has quite a ways to go, I think but it is a lot of fun when it comes together. I just came off of a five hour 3 vs 3 match that managed to escalate to the Global thermonuclear war stage annillating everyone's infrastructure, forcing us back down to the measly foot soldier level and then back up to GTW It was a blast.
  2. It's pretty good... for a rental. Course my video store rents for 99c.
  3. Just a point of trivia nit-picking, shouldn't you say it's a Dune knock-off? Dune was what made the RTS genre.
  4. A couple, the ones in my post and a few concerning missile weapons.
  5. Because these are my thoughts about the beta.... was it not clear in my post?
  6. Yo u could always play Derek Smart's Desktop Commander!!!
  7. This is the spiritual successor to the RTS Total Annihilation. *cough* though I hope not, TA sucked something awful*cough* If you have seen the E3 trailers, then you would get a taste of the massively scoped scoped combat. It recently went into the closed beta stage. (note, if you check on Fileplanet tommorow, they will be giving out more beta keys) So far, I have mixed feelings about SC, I love the since of scale and the myriad units and their interactions(read...Nukes! ), but at this point the game has some rather huge flaws that make it really un-enjoyable. First and foremost, the game is a resource hog. In this I was not surprised, just like at the trailers you could guess that this was going to be a beast to run, but just not to this degree. Even players with top of the line rigs are saying that the game becomes unplayable after an hour (which is the average half way point) in 1 v 1. And the game barely even runs for 20 minutes with anymore players then that. It even wonks out in 1 player sandbox mode...sigh I am holding out hope, that there will be a lot of optimization later on. The biggest and by far the most aggravating flaw in SC (for which, some developers need to smacked for) is that the multi-player matches use an external matchmaker/chat room. ie. GPG's version of Gamespy. I can hear the screams of bloody horror now. It wouldn't be so bad, except that as I stated above, the game is a resource hog, and even the pre-match lobby loads slowly and lags (Looking at 1-2 minutes on an 'average' machine). Now, if the all the slots are filled, or if the host decides to cancel the game during this loading sequence, you get kicked out of SC and back to the external lobby to start the whole process over again. As if that wasn't bad enough, currently there is an aggravating error, that will falsely return "The game has launched." kicking you out. Which makes getting some play time a roll of the dice affair and the dice are loaded. Amazingly though, despite all of these problems, when it does work, it works really well. Enough to overlook...eh... chant another verse Om Mani padme om. and keep playing. It's just that much fun....when it works.
  8. Berry Gordy's The last Dragon So bad, it's good
  9. Pinky toe-Harlem Nights One of the funniest scenes from this classic film.
  10. Wow. I thought that this game was dead still looks really tempting even after all this time
  11. MEh. For much of it's run i could agree with you about ST:E, shame of it though was that Entrerprise had just really started to come together in the last season.
  12. The more he rags, the more it shows that he actually likes the show. SC your trying to hard too convince us you hate it
  13. 2 and 3 were horrible knockoffs? Terror from the Deep and Apocalypse were the best games in the series .
  14. We all know the truth anyhoo. SC is BSG lover but he's just ashamed to say after all his previous doom and gloom Great premeire tonight,it started off a tad slow, but boy did pick up. Can't wait for next week.
  15. What if the Confederacy had won the Civil war? That is the premise of this faux documentary, and unlike the books by Harry Turtledove, this wholly tongue in cheek and just about one of the funniest films I've ever watched. It was actually released in 2004, but was rereleased on DVD a few months ago and slowly wound up in the Indie section of the video store. If you can find it, give it a try. "God gave white man the book, the red man the arrow, and the black man the ho(e)." HAHAHA
  16. Proof Posit that games are bad for kids ummm...kay haha
  17. In almost every sci-fi movie, you see newspapers and shirts with moving pictures.....well the time has come. http://www.research.philips.com/newscenter...04-decosit.html [ 09-12-2006, 11:44 AM: Message edited by: aramike ]
  18. Looking at the complete blog about the movement scheeme, the devs do have a point. Very rarely do you see ST ships above say defiant size making dramatic maneuvers, or really utilizing the z-axis. It's even commented on in Wrath of Kahn...which to be honest is the only instance that comes to mind. Basically almost all movement in ST combat is exactly like what you see in the Armada games, so I have to agree with their choice.
  19. This was featured on Steam the other night, and it's pretty funny. Zombies, Stoners, cannibalism and Rock music...What more do you need? Zombie Movie
