  1. This is insanely tragic. These are clips I got off a few websites. I compiled them so no links. Though a quick google.com search can confirm this. quote:The eagerly awaited blockbuster computer game, Doom 3, has been leaked on the internet. Copies of the game on file-sharing networks and newsgroups are being downloaded by thousands of people. The cost to the game's makers, id Software, could run into hundreds of thousands of pounds in lost sales. The sci-fi horror title has been four years in the making and is due to go on sale in the US on Tuesday and next week in the UK. Widely downloaded Doom 3 is the second follow-up to the 1993 first-person shooting classic. Developing a game like it can cost game developers like id Software in the region of $15m (£8.3m) to $20m (£11.1m). Its release is the gaming equivalent of the third film in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. In the US, the game is expected to retail for $54.99 and is expected to sell in the millions. Some US stores are planning to officially start selling the game on Tuesday, but copies are reported to have appeared in a few shops over the weekend. Potential sales could be hit by the extent of online piracy of the game. Copies of it appeared on newsgroups and peer-to-peer networks over the weekend. At one point on Sunday, more than 50,000 copies of the game, which weighs in at more than 1.5 gigabytes, were being downloaded. Translated in lost sales, this amounts to $2.7m (£1.5m), if all these people instead bought the game. "Despite the relatively low price of PC games, many gamers are still choosing to resort to piracy rather than pay for legitimate boxed copies," said Matt Pierce, publisher of the computer games magazine, PC Gamer. "Since Doom 3 is one of the most eagerly awaited PC games ever, it was almost inevitable that it was going to be leaked online following its US release. "Whereas in the case of Doom 3, it almost certainly won't prevent the game being a massive seller, it will still cost both the publishers and developers of the game millions of dollars in lost revenue, an outcome that can only serve to harm future game development on the PC," he told BBC News Online. At the time of publication, no one was available to comment from the game's publishers, Activision.
  2. quote: If I buy a movie, I have every right to fast-forward through it, mute it, splice into or out of a VHS, use a DVD as a coaster, frisbee, etc I disagree. You do not have the right unless you pay $100 for a licensed copy of the movie. Your not supposed to be able to modify peoples artistic work liek that.
  3. ROFLMAO. That was hysterically funny. Derek, if yuo don't you should feel honored that someone cares so much they'd spend time making a 3 minute long movie just to bash you.
  4. I understand what your saying. At the same time however, you need to realize that it isn't your movie and that the movie doesn't belong to the audience either. The director(s) producer(s) knew what the consequences of putting the scene into the movie and even if they didn't, it's there movie to do with as they please. I do not believe others should have the right to go around filtering. Thats like you creating a movie, spending your money and your time on it. You get it just the way you want it, and then I come along decide I don't like it, spend relatively no time or money on it, don't put any blood, sweat or tears into it, and changing it so that it's more to my liking. You'd probably be something pissed off about that....
  5. I feel people should be able to do skip the commericals if they feel like it. I hate commericals with a passion. They simply insult my intelligence and waste my time... I mean really, how many times have you been watching television, and this beautiful woman comes on the screen and she is all happily playing with her family. Then she looks into the camera, smiles really big, and says, "Hello! I have genital warts! But it doesn't slow me down...yada yada yada." It's sad really. Anyhow, thats my case for commericals being skippable. As far as the actual DVD filtering goes....I think it's sad that people have problems with things that happen in movies. I understand my view is probably wrong with this, but people need to relax a little bit. If cursing, violence, or whatever else offends them, they must not be living on planet Earth in the first place simply because anywhere you go you are going to see one of those things anyhow. Furthermore, I agree that being able to filter scenes in a DVD will hurt their artistic value. Have you ever seen American History X? Try watching the edited version of that. It totally defeats the purpose of the violence and langauge in the movie. The purpose being, to show how much hate there was, and how it was able to be reversed. Ok...rant over....
  6. quote: The very first time I see a post that has nothing to do with the topic and is about some git's personal opinions about Derek Smart, I will delete the thread and will, never, ever talk to anyone about Freespace again. Meaning, everyone will be left guessing wtf I'm up to. Right up to the point where I announce that I'm developing it for the Atari system.ROFLMAO Derek. I know you're serious, but jesus that cracked me up. Atari...heheh.
  7. Ok, now I'm really getting excited about this game. Lets just pray it doesn't sink. (I still crack myself up.)
  8. I second the suggestion for a 2nd stick of 512MB of ram as soon as you can afford it. There is a very considerable, noticeable difference between 1x512MB sticks and 2x512MB sticks...
  9. I was terrified when Arnold first announced he was running. I was shocked when he was elected. Now, I am stunned into silence that he is doing so damn well.

  11. Pugwash, Once you get the XBOX it won't seem like joining the devil. I had the same fear when I first bought a XBOX but as long as you divide your time equally between the PC and XBOX you'll be fine. To stay on topic, I'd like to vote again that you attempt to acquire the IP for Freespace, Derek. Why do I get two votes? I'm from Florida, of course. I can vote as many times as I'd like...
  12. I'm beginning to think it's about time for me to leave Florida. This is just....odd. http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/South/07/18/odd...reut/index.html
  13. I thought everyone in Florida had a gator in their tub??!?
