  1. I created a Roam scenario choosing to be an Assault Force Marine, Ter/Mil, starting on the Starbase on Mars. A few moments after the scenario loaded, I got messages that my escort marines were deployed, but I never saw them. I called them up on the Priority list, and they appeared to be on Earth. I deleted that profile and created another with the same results. I was just wondering if the extra marines only deploy to earth, or if my installation is corrupt. I'm having fun, anyway - Sgt. Typhon says he "don't need no stinkin' help!". Yeah, Sarge, you die quite well on your own.
  2. quote:Originally posted by Wyrdsmith: I started out gaming with the old Atari 2600, and worked up to an Atari 800. Lol. You NEEDED an imagination to play stuff back then, and it really deepened the experience. As I read this the first time, it reminded me of discussions I'd had around video games vs. imaginative roleplay (the stuff kids do naturally, not the adult games). I think your entirely right. People forget that the greatest VR computer known to man is part of the original equipment. I tried to help my cousin get into BC years ago with this analogy: the Battlecruiser games are like a box of toy soldiers. You get men, tanks, cool planes, *cough* interstellar battlecruiser *cough*, and with BC, you even get a prepopulated Sandbox to play in. I think he made some comment about always losing toys in the sandbox; really he just wasn't excited enough to put in the time to learn it. Partly I'd blame it on video culture and the decline of imagination, but some of it is just individual nature. He's always looking for the next great story, wether to read it, watch it, or play it. I'm always looking for the next great world to explore. He wants a game; I want a game system. We're looking for inherently different experiences. (side note: my 6 yr old son is a big Mario fan, but he thinks tooling around Mars in one of those little buggies is pretty cool, too.) (Next bike ride we'll probably be Mario and Luigi... on Mars!)
  3. I'd been obsessed by First Encounters (Elite III), when I bought a game mag because it had a CD with free old games (I had a 486). Bundled with these oldies was the free release of BC3K version 1. At first I thought it the next logical step after Elite; I didn't realise it was another animal entirely. I kept that CD for 3 months till I had the scratch and the skill to upgrade that old clunker to a Pentium system. I had no clue what I was doing (in game) or what I was getting myself into. It wasn't long before I scored a copy of version 2 at EB, scrounged up a VooDoo 2 card, downloaded patches and RC's, and was enjoying the early days of ground ops. I've sent a lot of marines to their deaths since.
  4. I've only had the game a week. This is the second time IÔÇÖve upgraded my PC specifically to play a BC title (last time was BC3K v2). All IÔÇÖve got to say is that ground combat is looking pretty sweet these days; itÔÇÖs what I was wishing for when playing BCM. Asset switching in FP! That, and a squad of marines to follow me in ROAM. Yee Hah! OK, so they follow me to our mutual demise; the company is nice. SC, thanks for sticking with this game. ItÔÇÖs great to see the vision fulfilled.
  5. I always call my main AE Psirat, so I always make a play on this in the asset name. I just moved up to an Aestrom (much different from a MkIII), and moved up to the name PsiLance. Lance 'cause we're playing calvary, focusing on ground ops, and also it's a pun on Silence - which I hope to do to my enemies. So far, I've been the one silenced. We decloaked under a raider station, hoping we were in a blind spot. We were disabled in under a second. Ooops. (Restore) Ground ops have been a little more successful.
  6. I ran into that problem just recently when returning to the game and trying surface ops. For me, the orders menu was defaulting to having an X in the evac box. I just cleared that while giving the order and was good to go. May be something else for you, but i know I scratched my head a little before noticing it.
