Greetings Cadets,

Some of you may know me, some of you may not. I am Commander Mrxknown. I will be your instructor for the next six weeks.

Here is a complete schedule for those six weeks. If anythings changes, I will edit this post and an additional post so that you are aware of the change. Be sure to place this thread in your favorites, so you can quickly check it without fumbling through the forum or PMing myself. If you do PM me about when a mission, event, or exam takes place, I will provide you with a link to this thread. I will also repost this message on the PF forums in the Academy section. Each mission should be posted the first day of each week and I'll have them graded within two days of the cadets completion.

Now at the start of Week One, all cadets will need to be reading their game manual, any PF-sponsored tutorial or guide, and the Prime Fleet Charter, which are located in the War Room. Don't be afraid to ask for help. Any cadets ON the list below are to PM me with details of how long they have played their respective game, experience in combat, and what game they have, I need it ASAP.

* Krys

* Jstuart

* Warhero

Your first mission will be on a Monday, for cadets it will be a steady walkthrough and adjustment into the role of Commander and the systems one most know.

Week One: Basic Understanding: Mission One for each cadet will be posted and cadets will have four days to complete it. Cadets will also become familiar in dealing with the Logistix, Tactical, TacOps, PerScan, and CommLink systems. As well as plotting waypoints for one shuttle, fighter, and OC.

Week Two: Space Combat: Mission Two for each cadet will be posted and cadets will have four days to complete it. Cadets will have a limited amount of time to destroy any hostile ships in their patrol region. Cadets will be trained in fighting enemy ships using countermeasures such as mines and the EMD, as well as the PTA systems and main gun turrets. They will also learn how to use missiles.

Week Three: Planet Ops: Mission Three for each cadet will be posted and cadets will have three days to complete it. Cadets will learn how to pilot a fighter in space and planetside. Cadets will also be trained in landing procedures and deploying of crafts from the shuttle.

Week Four: Mission Four for each cadet will be posted and cadets time of completion is four days. Cadets will have Assault Training: Destroying and Capturing Starstations.

Week Five (7/12 - 7/18: Mission Five for each cadet will be posted and they will have five days to complete it.

MP Event Two (7/18): Space Combat: More than one instructor maybe required due to varied timezones of the cadets. The event will have cadets pitted against each other in a fun touranment-style fight. Rules and regulations will be decided by the instructor. Any cadet that doesn't have UC should PM me by 7/12 or be expected to show up at Event One.

Week Six (7/19 - 7/24): Mission Six for each cadet will be posted and cadets will have five days to complete it. This mission will be a string of missions ranging from mining to trading to combat. Your explore far beyond Sol borders and face obstacles that may test your nerve.

Exam One (7/21): Review of Prime Fleet Knowledge, Ship systems, tactics, planet operations, and GALCOM history.

Except those Cadets listed in Marvin's post above, all cadets are expected to complete Mission One.

When you finish each mission, post a BREIF After Action Report, basically just post any interesting or noted events, comments, and/or problems. The term WILL last six weeks and I would like cadet opinions on each mission so I can keep their thoughts while making the next missions.

The AAR should be brief, which means, don't list EVERYTHING that happens at the precise time, don't just post negative comments, don't complain. The AAR should be a way for you to have fun with and post the basics of what you did.

Please wait until the PF forum is back up and I have reposted this mission in the respective threads. If by some bad luck the forum is not back by Friday, then post your AAR's in this thread.

----------------------------------------------------

Mission One (Due by midnight Friday the 18th)

Greetings Cadets,

Your first mission will start out Genesis Station and your launch in a Garid command ship. This is a free roam mission. You have 9 hours of game time to gain as much credit and EP as you can.

However you must travel through the trade route between Wraith Station and Genesis. You have one assignment which is upon launching from Genesis, prep your shuttles to deploy mining drones on the moon.

Switch to TacOps, click on the moon, then on the moon tab click on observe. Once the view changes your see a complete basic map of the moon. For this mission, I want you to set four waypoints in a square shape with the waypoint to deploy the drone in the middle. Do that for each drone. If you don't know how to plot waypoints read the TacOps Computer section of the manual.

Also you must plot your course to Wraith Station and Genesis by using Navitron. You are not allowed to upgrade your systems, but do have permission to fire on vessels attacking ally ships. You must follow the Rules of Engagement, you must not fire on a vessel unless it has fired on you or ally vessels.

Good Luck!

To successfully pass this mission you will need

- 1 screenshot taken from the Stats tab in the Commlink menu. This wil

show me how many EP's and credits you have. This must be taken at 22:00.

- 1 screenshot of PerScan at the beginning of the mission

- 1 screenshot of All marines and ready status

- 1 screenshot of your system engineers assignments in the Logistix menu

- 1 screenshot of a waypoint pattern for a deployment attempt on the moon via TacOps

- 1 screenshot of the Navitron computer when leaving Genesis for Wraith

- 1 screenshot of the Navitron computer when leaving Wraith Station for Genesis

All screenshots can be sent to me at [email protected]

Again Good Luck, Cadets! Feel free to PM me for assistance if needed.

I have delayed the first exam until next week so to give the cadets time to practice and get comfortable. Remember you need to read the manual, PF Charter, and any PF-sponsored tutorials or guides (which will be posted as they are completed).

I will be sending out a PM to the cadets assigned the first mission which again are:

* Flax

* Ivo

* Kenshin

* Mahzel

All other cadets, until otherwise posted report to the Acandemy Commandant Marvin.

The following cadets cannot be contacted via this forum. When I try to find them using search on this forum I get "There is no record of that Publically Displayed Name":

* Flax

* Kenshin

So I suggest to them that they FIX IT! Or suffer the consequences.

So far I have only been able to PM cadets Mahzel and Ivo.

Prime Fleet Academy Grading Sheet

CHECK RIDE -- Cadet Patrik Vanda

1. Deploy Mining Drone.

_X_ Deploys shuttle (AI pilot assigned).

_X_ SC hyperjumps to correct target (planet/moon).

_X_ SC successfully makes planetfall (day side).

_X_ SC Maintains shallow approach to landing area (waypoints set correctly).

_X_ SC lands successfully.

_X_ Mining drone deployed.

_X_ SC returns to command craft.

2. Deploy Fighters for Protection.

_X_ All four fighters deployed.

_X_ Two fighters (lead and wingman) patrol area together.

_X_ Two fighters escort instructor's CC.

3. Recall All Fighters.

_O_ Wingmen RTB prior to lead. -- Wingmen and flight leads were allowed to RTB together, inviting a possible midair. Flight lead should be ordered to "Halt" while wingman docks with CC.

_X_ All four fighters RTB successfully.

4. Deploy Cargo Pod for Pickup/Resupply.

_X_ Docks with starstation to purchase 500 units of radine.

_X_ Departs starstation in a timely manner.

_X_ Deploys cargo pod containing 500 units of radine. -- Currently, contents of cargo pod are only visible to commander who owns the pod so grading of this item is strictly on the honor system.

___ Delivers cargo pod (via SC) to instructor's CC. -- Not tested; not even sure if it's possible.

5. Deploy Fighter for Recon (Patrol).

_O_ FC charged and ready. -- Fighters were not immediately prepped after RTB.

_X_ FC remains in area after launch.

6. Defends Against Cloaked Ship.

_X_ Detects cloaked attack (shields dropping).

_X_ Maneuvers at high speed. -- Very high speed. Hyperspeed, in fact. Led a merry chase.

___ Utilizes EMD against missiles/continuously. -- Not observed.

_X_ Cloaks.

_X_ Successfully exits the area.

_X_ Successfully counter-attacks (destroys attacker)/forces attacker to retreat.

7. Request Assistance.

_X_ Activates SOS (Ctrl+Alt+T).

_X_ Accepts tow.

_X_ Docks with station.

_X_ Launches from station in a timely manner (all repair items aboard CC).

___ Initiates in-space repairs. -- Unnecessary.

8. Order SC Tow.

_X_ Launches shuttle.

_X_ Directs SC to tow command craft.

_X_ Successfully obtains tow to starstation.

_X_ Successfully docks for repairs.

9. Attack As Cloaked Ship.

_X_ Cloaks prior to jumping.

_X_ Disengages PTA.

_X_ Utilizes missiles (successfully targets "friendly" instructor's CC).

_X_ Pursues/destroys target.

_X_ Disengages cloak A/R.

Note: Failed to insure "weapons safe" after instuctor called a cease fire (knock it off), resulting in fatal damage to instructor's ship.

10. Render Assistance.

_X_ At cadet's option, uses available resources to assist disabled CC (instructor).

11. Attack Starstation for Capture.

_X_ Cloaks prior to jumping.

___ Disengages PTA prior to jumping. -- Not observed.

___ Jumps to supply station (arrives closer to starstation). -- Not observed.

_O_ Successfully destroys station's shield.

_O_ Successfully forces station to transmit SOS.

_O_ Captures station.

_O_ Destroys station.

_O_ Retreats.

Note: Starstation capture isn't as easy as it used to be. Student fired a missile at relatively close range. As seen from TacOps, it looked as if the student's CC then decloaked for a couple seconds ... just long enough for the station to lock on and destroy the craft. The cadet insists he never de-cloaked.

Final Grade: Passed.

Works as designed. If you fired a weapon, you become visible for a short time. Enough for modern station defense systems to fire a few shots on you. If they (the shots) hit you, you stay visible (for another short time)...

Congrats, Cadet!

Better jump to the supply station and then try to find a safe spot from the stations gun.... at that point you can give 'em hell as fast as possible before SDM's and enemy craft swarmt on you...

After a few more tests, I realized that it also isn't a good idea to launch a missile without altering your course quickly thereafter. The station's defenses will attempt to destroy the missile and, if you continue to follow it on its merry journey to the target, you will most likely catch a few stray energy bolts meant for the missile.

I think that the best bet it to place all the FATAL you can on the station facing a different direction so when you turn the missiles will lauch togheter minimising the exposition time out of the cloack cover....

Checkride results: Cadet Dennymala

Denny has successfully completed his multiplayer checkride. "Lessons Learned" include the following.

1. When using TacOps to set waypoints for his shuttle, Denny targeted a hostile planetside base. The flow of target data resulted in excessive lag, making it extremely difficult to continue using TacOps. To compensate, we flew to the next region of space where Denny successfully used TacOps to plot waypoints in an unpopulated region of the planet.

2. Towing a damaged commander requires that certain procedures be followed, otherwise the relationship between towed craft and towing craft confuses the server. The following procedures work most of the time.

[*]The ship to be towed should transmit SOS.

[*]The towing ship should engage tractor beam in the usual manner.

[*]Upon approaching the starstation, the towing ship should not initiate docking. Instead, he/she should fly under the station so as to assure a zero (0) range from towed ship to the station.

[*]If possible, the towing ship should then disengage the tractor beam. Confirm from the towed commander that he is in range. If not, re-engage and lock back on.

[*]The towed craft must have the starstation targeted in the TDD. If all sensors are off line, attempt to get a "blind" lock by cycling through the targets and checking the range -- then using Ctrl+F to insert the flight path info. If the FP target does not indicate you are locked on to the station, cycle to the next target and try again.

[*]Attempt to dock. Distance to the station will probably fluctuate; try to time docking so that that the range is zero.

[*]If it was necessary for the towing craft to keep a tractor lock-on, the towed craft might still indicate being towed after launching back into space. This problem can usually be solved by having the towing craft cycle his/her tractor beam while the towed craft turns off the SOS. Then the towing craft should re-engage tractor beam and approach the towed craft; if necessary, have the towed craft again transmit SOS, tractor the craft, then disengage the beam.

3. If you have been towed to a station for repairs, collect the items you need and launch back into space in a timely manner but make darn sure your Logistix computer is operational. If it is not, assign all ten station engineers to the job -- then depart the station in a timely manner. If you depart with an inop Logistix computer, you cannot assign your own (low AI) engineers to make necessary repairs.

Thanks CO! Awaiting further orders.

I respectfully advise that you cut the SOS signal when tractored by the rescue ship, I saw in the checkride that it confuse the server as well. So when you arrive at the station you would be tractored but non SOS emitting, the rescue ship will release the tractor beam and you then attemp to dock.

This however has to be tested more deeply....

The following cadets have until Sunday, 27 June, to complete Training Mission 1 and either post it to the Academy section of the Prime Fleet forum or send it to Commander "Mrxknown" Grayson.

[*]Flax

[*]Kenshin

Non-compliance will result in disenrollment from the Academy and deletion from the Fleet database.

Due to his/her lack of attendance, Trainee Kenshin (rouroni) has been disenrolled from the Academy and placed in casual status with the 1st Orbital Marine Battalion, Marine Basic Training (Boot Camp).

Kalshion, please check the Fleet Database to insure I've reassigned Kenshin to the proper location ... we wouldn't want anyone wandering into null space.
