First OMFG BC moment

Okay, I have to admit I'm going a little stir crazy waiting for the game to be released.

I intentionally stayed out of the beta because I knew I wanted that "Rush to the store and peel off the celophane" experience with this one. Fine. I can hack it. But to help deal with the excruciating pain of self denial, I wanna hear everyones 'Oh my F*** God' moment with BC3K.

I'm sure I first heard about this game through Bluesnews. During some late night procrastination, I did a search for reviews and came up with a really positive review saying you can fly a giant battle cruiser, or a fighter, or a shuttle, or an ATV right on the planet surface. My first reaction was, "What are you smoking, and do you have any left."

Then my wife and I are in a small town, I notice a computer store. I go in, and inside they've got it. BC3k. I bought it for kicks, brought it home, patched it. Played it.

My first (of many) OMFG moments, was the first time I pulled up the Tac Ops screen. There was an immediate 'This is the way every space sim should do it.' moment.

I did the ATV on the surface thing. It was great, but not earth shattering cause I knew it was coming. I got back in my ship, left the planet, and as I was in the Tacops screen, plotting a course for the moon, I discovered the 'observe' option. Suddenly I'm watching the planet, from my ship. And I notice some insurgents battling it out with some terrans, and I LOST IT!

What was your first OMFG moment with BC3k?

I don't care if there has been a thread covering this topic before, I wanna hear from the current crowd.

First of all, I generally don't use the "F" word when referring to The Almighty.

That in mind, my first "WOW" experience with BC3K came when I finally popped in the Mappak. I thought I'd be a badass and eliminate the Insurgents from Earth (forgive me, Rattler wink.gif , this was before I discovered how to play as an Insurgent). So, I began an all-out offensive and got my butt kicked.

I "wowed" at the AI. I expected a cake-walk.

One such moment was when I was playing through the ACM's. I was flying around the gammulan quadrant, and I noticed that every now and again when I was shooting off fighters, I'd see something REALLY big appear for a split second. I went through a jump gate and started shooting. I was NOT expecting to see the stormcarrier decloak point blank. My jaw dropped when I saw that.

heh, earlier today when I was testing the SP1 patch, I was screwing around in Sygan wanting to piss everyone off so that they'd launch a bunch of ships at me (I wanted to see if the sfx code was now stable) and wanting to jump to my location. Of course, little did I know that there was a cloaked ship in the region. I was there merrily minding my own business and staying out of everyone's range, when my TO muttered something about something being out there. OK, I know there's a cloaking ship in the region. No big deal, its probably too far away anyway. Not a frigging chance. By the time I saw the static in my displays, due to the cloaking emissions from the ship, I saw the ship decloak right in front me me and rip through my shield and armor in one pass (I was stationary and not using the invincible cheat). By the time I looked in the ext cam view to see wtf was going on, there were two, not one, electrical disturbances in the force. Of course, due to the latest flight dynamics code, I couldn't outrun them. Those b*astards kept slicing through me while I limped outta there. I didn't make it....

Dang! Time to get a new Supreme Commander! Any suggestions? wink.gif

My biggest *wow* in BC3K came when I got my fleet (when we had fleet c&c at the start) to work as a unit. BC Mk1's following my BC, fighters escorting the Mk1's my BC at low speed, and using my fighters to pretty much jump near the enemy starstation, piss them off, send their forces vs the fighters, have my fighters jump to the PTA protection of my BC's and watch the many death flowers that lit up the sky.

My first? Heck, that gotta be when I crash landed my BC in the middle of the city and then had a bunch of hostiles shoot me to pieces in revenge. Guess I shouldnt have tried to tractor that power generator into orbit.. damn SAMS... biggrin.gif

Hehe, you have all glossed-over the biggest "WOW" in gaming history...

I remember printing the Manual and Appendices on the colour laser-jet at work and thinking: "WOW! - I gotta read all THAT?!?" biggrin.gif

I don't remember my first WOW! moment, but I remeber a stupid one.

1) Around Earth/moon stargate, in earth region

2) Raider warmonger pops in, attacking GHQ

3) Didn't wanna fight, so I launch my fighter squadron with the Current target / attack / all interceptors

4) Interceptors launches, jump to the cruiser

5) They arrive at the same place, at the same time (out of hyper-space)

6) 2 interceptor destroyed, 1 prop out and one badly damaged.

er.... DAMN!!!

The only situation type when the ennemy can do extreme damage without even shooting a single burst.

I reloaded (shame on me...)

Mine was when ever i first deployed a leech mine. Of course I was going upwards of 2000 and all of the sudden......BAM I was history. The only problem was that my Captain was on the surface of some planet and I never did find him. I had to stick with a clone.

I really can't remember why I bought BC but I remember bring it home and loading it up and getting killed in the first 5 minutes or so. It sat on my shelf for a while (I'm not a great manual reader) but then I sat down over a weekend and read the manual and got the patches read some posts on the forums and sat down and tried again. I'm still wet behind the ears and die regularly as I'm still getting to grips with some basic operations and stuff.

But I digress my biggest WOW moment was when I realised just how big the BC world is and just how much freedom you have its overwhelming, I'm looking forward to BCM and GCO so I don't feel so lost so I can follow someones orders again!(instead of wandering round like a lost puppy on my own)

Mine was when I entered Earth's atmosphere, I wasn't expecting much but then I went to Tacops and I saw all the little bases and NPC crafts moving around and I realized the scale and I thought FINALLY! A space game where you can actually fly into a planet that is an actual planet that you can land on and not just scenery in the background, this was what I was looking for and I felt for the first time I was truly playing an actual space-sim.
