Forum Lockdown (again)

Earlier today, Pugwash killed a thread posted by some twit (Takvah) who is now spewing his rubbish over on the DC boards. Naturally, he subsequently got banned.

About five minutes ago, I just deleted yet another thread by the same twit (under a different alias), calling me names. I deleted the thread, banned his IP etc.

Given this, I have reconfigured the board so that approvals are once again required for all new posters.

Thats the end of that I think.

to one again require moderator approval in order for someone to post there. I had removed such restrictions back when UC was announced in order to encourage n00bs to post, since them not owning UC or a previous BC title, meant not having a game CDKEY with which to register.

As if that wasn't enough, just five minutes ago, I have been subjected to the same insulting rhetoric from you via ICQ - thus causing me to add your ICQ UIN to an ignore list. Then I check my board PMs and I get a littany of messages about your postings here.

Let me explain something to you. You can do whatever the hell you like HERE. I don't care. Its not my board and I have NO vested interest in it. DC can run the board as they see fit and if they're going to allow people like you to ruin it, insult us, take potshots etc, thats their prerogative.

But while you're at it, understand some things - and pay attention here :

1. Dreamcatcher does NOT own this game nor the IP. I own it 100%. What I say, goes. Pure and simple.

2. Dreamcatcher did NOT develop this game and had NO part in its development.

3. Dreamcatcher's involvement is purely as a publisher role with a license to market and sell MY properties.

4. Dreamcatcher cannot issue nor develop patches. The extent of their role is in identifying issues and passing them along to me. They're a buffer between you and my team where this aspect is concerned. As such, patches will be available on my site, all over the net and on the Dreamcatcher servers (if they post them).

As as result of all this, you stand VERY LITTLE chance of getting ANY assistance about this game (or any game) without going to the DEVELOPER'S site. At the end of the day (as is evidenced by other game posts here), there is a 99.9% chance that ANYTHING assistance you require about ANY of my games, will either come directly from my site or linked to it. So, don't kid yourself there. If its about MY GAMES, then ANY and EVERYTHING related to it, is coming from either myself, one of my crew or gamers. This stuff doesn't come out of thin air.

Going to our website is a PRIVILEDGE and not a RIGHT. You have the right to patches. Go download them. You do NOT have a right to post on our boards, nor to insult us and/or misbehave as you see fit. This action - as you might be aware - will ALWAYS be met with the stiffest of resistance where a TAKE NO PRISONER approach works best. NO EXCEPTIONS.

5. There is a GOOD reason why our board is clean, clear and naked. We simply DO NOT CARE about the opinions of anarchists, anti-social misfits and the like; who think that the Net is their frigging backyard to do as they please. We have a VERY HEAVY HANDED approach to moderation on our game board and thats why, unlike most gaming boards, ours is informative and the like. Our game is military based and we try to maintain the same level of discipline wherever possible. We have a VERY LOW TOLERANCE threshold for nonsense. If you can't stand it, DON'T COME THERE. Nothing could be SIMPLER than that.

6. The average BC gamer is a dedicated one, regardless of age, race or gender and even with that, it takes a certain level of DISCIPLINE and CONTROL to stick to games such as this. Your behavior and that of some other n00bs with behavior similar to yours, is a direct result of what happens when you switch the focus of a product from one demographic to another. Its not always a good thing - but publishers like Dreamcatcher, don't care about that. For them - and rightfully so - its about money and moving boxes. For us - especially me personally - it goes beyond that and I'm NEVER going to allow some frigging idiot to come into MY HOUSE and disrupt it simply because they forked out $40 for a game. Thats just NOT going to happen. EVER. The only choice you - and others like you - have in this is you either LIVE WITH IT OR YOU DON'T.

So, do whatever you want HERE. But keep it HERE. And know this, my publisher has NO control over me. NONE WHATSOEVER. Bear that in mind when you come here crying foul because you had your tiny

Well hindsight is always 20:20

Subsequent events seem to show my judgment was correct on this matter.

If he'd of actually posted in the correct forum I may have just edited his post and left it.

There's only one "dude" who needs chill out on the beach and that seems to be Takvah he certainly seems to have a problem with this forum and the people who frequent it.

I would like to point out a few things

His post was deleted on sight by me my decision not the SC's.,

No one had time to reply to it.

No one insulted him on this board.

No one talked down to him on this board.

No one told him to RTFM.

All that happened was he had his post deleted.

He came here looking for a fight which I was not willing to let anyone give him, he now finds he can't post here so he's had to go else where for it.

Will he have the same attitude with DC now they have deleted one of his posts I think not.

I was lucky enough to save a copy of the DC forum Thread to my HD just after bglad[DC] posted but before he deleted the posts, lol that was good timing

Yeah, Spindocktor originally had Takvar's post here quoted in his response. Thats the part that Brian edited out quite possibly in order to avert a problem. Naturally - as is to be expected - that didn't work.

Brian (the UC product manager at DC) has a higher threshold for rubbish than I do and he's a pretty fair (no question there) guy. As such, I'm not in the least bit surprised by the edited/deleted posts. Though I think (I just fired off an email to him) he probably misunderstood my reference to one sided at the beginning of my post (the one he let stand). I was refering to gits (like Takvar) who come to this board, try to misbehave, can't; try to insult someone, can't, then go over to the DC forum and try to do it there. Then cry foul when they get banned on our end.

Thats the thing, that twit knew that he couldn't pull that stunt here, so he goes and tries to twist/distort the whole thing by creating a seemingly innocent (which only an idiot won't see through) thread. In fact, the posts which Brian deleted (Takvar's and mine) were related to him claiming that I was lying about what I stated in my earlier post. So I simply edited my original post to include the links to this thread (because I didn't want to disrespect Brian by posting the excerpt Spindokter had, as well as the ICQ messages) and then I edited this thread and posted the ICQ messages. So, I clearly wasn't lying about what he had done, he [Takvar] just foolishly assumed that with Spindoktor's post edited, there was no proof of what he had done here and how all this started.

This is what they do and its the oldest trick in the book. They either (a) come here, read something, take it out of context, then run off and post elsewhere (e.g. Usenet) ....oh look what Derek Smart said to a customer!! or ( they create a seemingly innocent alias and try to pull the same stunt that Takvar just tried to pull in order to come off as being victimized.

Then they try to see if they can make enough of a furor in order to get the publisher involved (remember when they used to try that stunt - and failed - back when I had just signed BC3K 2.0 with Interplay in 1998?) and on their side. They forget one thing, and that is that the publisher reps KNOW what goes on out here on the Net. Why these stupid gits assume that they don't and that they can pull a fast one by trying to put me on the firing line (heh, like I give a toss), is just the stuff that stupidity is made of.

Very comprehensive. I think our character is Ferrous Cranus however, it is possible for people to be hardened on the opposite end of the spectrum as well. While flaming is unacceptable, discussion is essential. Otherwise we would have a game that would remain flawed due to lack of conversation about inherent problems.
