Government Greed!

Recommended Posts

"A news item on Sony Online's official sites for EverQuest, PlanetSide, and Star Wars Galaxies has a reminder that a value-added tax has gone into effect that will be added on top of its subscription fees ($12.95 to $14.99 per month, depending on the game) for those who live in European Union countries. Recent changes in EU tax laws require that taxes be applied for downloadable games and online services at the point of consumption, that is, in the country where subscribers reside. The 17.5 percent tax will be applied to residents of Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom."

All I can do is shake my head in disgust. I hope this country don't get that idea!!! If it does, I'd say time for a good old fashioned tea party!!

Yeah, I know I just lost my head. Here's the part that amazes me "taxes be applied for downloadable games and online services". How can they tax these intangibles and people just sit by and let that happen. I'd go revolutionary if they tried that here in NY. I have DSL so I need a phone line (which I have anyway) this is how the bill breaks down.

Verizon Basic Local Services:

Surcharges and Taxes:

FCC line charge............ $6.44

Local Number portability... $0.23

Federal Tax................ $0.77

NYS&local Tax.............. $2.23

911 Surcharge.............. $1.00

Federal USF surcharge...... $0.64

Surcharges................. $1.42

^(It's a surcharge for the surcharges )

And this is tax just to have a phone line it doesn't include the surcharges and taxes for the calls and the optional services. I don't see a tax for the DSL service however (yet). I'd be damned if I pay more tax on downloads or online services (I am assuming they mean online services as in game servers etc..). I can understand the 911 surcharge but as it stands the way it is it's still a government racket taxing the phone as it is.

Technically a service can be taxed... but it always filters down to the consumer... so when they are "hitting the rich" the prices are adjusted so that the burden falls on the consumer anyways...

Government taxes are legalized extortion.

You don't pay, you go to jail.

Legalized extortion, no if's and's or but's.

Payed protection, you pay the government, you don't go to jail. Nice huh?

You lucky thing. At the end of the year over here VAT on internet connections (of all types) goes up from 5% to a mere 22%. Ahh, the joys of consumerhood

How else the government would have money to pay for the services it provides, i.e military, law enforcement, health care or whatever?

The problem is, government keeps finding more and more things that it sees as it's responsibility to pay for... and to get money to pay for it, goes back to reaming those who earned it... who end up reaming those who supposedly "benefit" in the long run.

The problem is that it will never stop until we, the people, stop it... en masse. That's one of the reasons liberals want to take away our right to bear arms... so we can't rebel when they finally drive us to the breaking point. If the US ever instituted an online tax, I'd praise as a hero any person with balls enough to firebomb offending government buildings.

As is the government takes about 60% of my meager $12k income when all is said and done. The US has already become a socialist commune and most people don't even realize it yet. The government needs to go away and let me deal for myself. I don't want ANY of their dirty d@mned 'services.' The whole world is going to crap and theres not a damned thing any of us can do about it, but head for the hills, build a cabin, and live off the land. But sooner or later the government will show up and take that too.

Go up in the mountains and build a cabin and live off the land.

What a great thought, but then the justice department will think that your some kind of survivalist whacko, terrorist and firebomb it and your family.

It doesn't matter whether you want or need the services, you will take them, or they will kill you.

It's getting to that point anyway.

Be a good sheeple, I mean citizen, and take what the government provides, and let the government take what they want. It's the American way, right?

How else can our illustrious representatives in Washington collect their monthly retirement checks, Without alapping a tax on everything from Tijuana to Timbuktu? That's correct , every senator and representative draws a pension check for $13k a month after their term is up untill the day they die after which their widow or widower gets it until they die. Plus they don't pay one red cent of their wages into the Social Security system. again Good old drop your drawers politics folks. They sit around in their comfy chairs living off the fat of the land and it's people and pass one bill after another to their advantage and only their advantage very very quietly. Because if it leaked out what they are doing they couldn't get re-elected. We're not sheeple, we're sh*tons. The really sad part is the majority of those in elected positions were already rich from their law practices. I say cut their frelling pay...ALL of it! To serve your country would take on a whole new meaning , well I shouldn't say new. It was the founding fathers intentions that the house of reps and the Senate not be a paid job. President Thomas Jefferson never collected a penny for his duties either as President or Senator from Virginia.

Steppenwolf said it best: " The government is a monster and will not obey"We couldn't stop their shenanigans now if we wanted to.

Just an FYI - i found out that here internet services and products remain tax-free. Good thing.

Don't keep your hopes up, they are just fattening it up, once the internet really gets going and is indespensable for business etc, and not a luxury as it is for most of us right now, then they will tax it to the point of lunacy.

Just watch, it will happen, I give it 5 more years, then it will be fat enough and indespensable enough where they will tax it to their hearts delight.

They love our money, because they actually think it's thiers and they have a right to it.

Thanks for that link RM.

It corrected part of my statement.

Disgusting, isn't it?

Yeah, Let's all dress like Indians and show up in front of the Whitehouse with tomahawks and signs that say DOWN WITH GEORGE! ( ironic isn't it? ) Then we'll see how fast Homeland security shows up to shoot all of us. LOL

Well, let's see, considering the American revolution was started in a 12 of 1% tax on tea, and most americans are paying at least 1/3 of their pay to the government in one way shape or form, and if you include ALL the hidden taxes, it comes to more like 55-60%, I would have to say that I would like some of my money back so that I can use it.

Helping the downtrodden is all well and nice, but when it keeps me from supportong my family, then it has gone too far.

You're young, aren't you El Che? I would guess in college and late teens to early 20's.

You really shouldn't come into this part of the forum, because you will get and have been getting torn into little liberal pieces.
