Interesting Question

OK, Wolferz and I have been having a good time showing why we think the US and the world as we know it is quickly coming upon a major upheaval.

He goes for conspiracies, skull and bones etc, I go for the more straightforward socialism that will collapse this country economically and cause it's collapse.

Either way it happens, and I believe it will, will you survive?

SO, here's the question.

The government and the economy have come apart at the seams, it is every man for himself.

So, the cities are in chaos and anarchy reigns.

Now, who among us right now, in ALL honesty believe that they will survive, and if you believe you will survive, why do you think you will survive, and how will you go about it.

The basic premise is this, the infrastructure is gone, all you have is what you have at your house RIGHT NOW, you cannot ressupply at the gorcery store or a gas station, money is not worth the paper it's printed on.

So, will you survive? Can you survive? do you have at hand what you need to survive? Also, it is not just a week, or a month, but years before things will get back to normal. Do you have the supplies necassary at hand? Do you have the knowledge at hand to survive?

Can you and will you survive?

Honestly I dont think so. Theres very little around the parts I live in that would sustain a population of thousands that went from modernites to hunter-gatherers overnight.

Man Jaguar. This is something out a game called Warzone 2100

What you just said is very similer to what happened in that game. Only it was done with nukes

But to answer you're question

In all honesty, my father has seen such a thing coming and has been getting ready. I won't tell you how much, I won't tell you where it's hidden, I won't even tell you how many of each item we have. But I can say this, we are ready and I feel my father and I can both survive

Why do I beleave we can survive? Like I said before, my father has seen it coming and has taught me all I need to know to survive in a world full of chaos. In the shooting range my accuracy rate is higher than most people, heck the guy there laughed and said I wouldn't even hit a broad side of a barn with my eye sight and the fact that I need glasses. I fired two rounds, both with my glasses and without and both times I got a bulleyes

Suffiest to say, the guy stopped taunting me and kept his mouth shut.

But anywho, what about you Jaguar? Do you beleave you are ready? Do you beleave you have what it take's to survive in a world full of chaos and rage?

Truthfully, yes, I would survive.

Military training is some of the best, and when you have friends that are Green berets, Delta force etc, they teach you a lot.

This summer is a going to be a big experiment for my family, we are going to go out into the woods as if this had indeed happened, and see if we can survive a week with just what we can toss in the car and leave with.

We have emergency packs ready for short term problems that would allow us to survive for 3 weeks without too much trouble, and other supplies that would be tossed in if it was long term survival at stake.

The whole question is the timing, when do you get out, do you get out AS it is hitting the fan, just AFTER it hit the fan, or BEFORE it hits the fan.

If you do it before and it doesn't happen, then you pretty much have screwed up, and look like a chicken little, if you do it WHILE it is happening, then it is likely that you may get caught in the mad flight, and if you wait until after, you could get caught in the aftermath, chaos, anarchy, etc within the cities.

So, it becomes a matter of A: preparing, food, water, supplies etc, and B: Timing, and C: your preparedness, psychologically.

I believe that I have an 80% chance of surviving with my family, I live on the Washington Penninsula, with the whole Olympic range to hide in, or I could head east into the cascades, or go north into Canada. I have lots of options, it is just a matter of having the gas in the car, the supplies that would fit in the car along with my family and pets etc.

If it came right down to it, YES, I believe that I could survive LONG term in the wilderness, beause that is exactly where I would go, as far from civilization as I possibly could and wait it out. It is also a lot easier for those that are prepared, then it is for cityfolk who would probably die in the wilderness the first week.

I would take all my cast iron cookware.

If a rag-tag gang is going to form a la Mad Max, then they're going to have to eat, and I can cook. The trick will be learning how to cook cats and dogs.

"Hello, Department of Redundancy Department"

Yes Jag, it's been fun and very enlightening researching the cause of our current problems and the ones to come.

You are quite correct that the problem with our nation is in fact socialism.

Guess what form of government the Boodle Boys subscribe to... Plain as the nose on your face, it is "Socialism/fascism. The Boodle boys have been quiet little Nazis since their inception.

Shaping us into a socialistic country, using the same indoctrinations that were used in Germany by the Nazis.

They are not going to allow this country to fail economically. They are going to squeeze every ounce of juice they can get out of every other country then..... BANG!

The Russians will finally get fed up with it and nuke us, which in turn will cause the rest of the nuclear armed countries to reciprocate.

In your case Jag, it's not going to be a problem of food, it's going to be..."How much radioactive fallout can you take? Take a close look at the prevailing winds and weather patterns in your neck of the woods. There is going to be a lethal dose of fallout heading your way from Russia,China, India, and Japan.

Without a properly built and stocked underground shelter, the question of surviving is a moot point. As a Nuclear/ Biological/Chemical NCO for my Army Reserve Company, I was trained in regard to these horrors. Radiation poisoning in the low doses that would come from long term exposure from the air, the ground, the water, and the foods you wil be gathering in the woods will be, let me say,"not very pleasant." I think I would rather be standing at or near ground zero in NYC when the shit hits the fan."

Frightening picture? You damn right it is!

And it will all be caused by a bunch of greedy shortsighted Sociopathic drug addicts who think they are the "Master" Race.

Ironically, they already have their survival/evacuation plans in place.Courtesy of yours and my tax dollars.

I would love to be at Andrews, watching the scramble to get on the planes and see the looks on the faces of the Senators and Congressmen who are not members of the inner circle, as the jackbooted thugs shoot them dead.

I have no desire whatsoever of being a Chicken Little, scratching around for bugs to survive.

And the only creatures that will survive will be the bugs. Roaches to be exact.

Do ya want Freedom Fries with those?

"Got Geiger Counter,MOPP Suit, Ammo. etc etc?"

Oh well, no sense in argueing the point any further. I'm done.

"Ain't no time to wonder why, Whoopee, we're all gonna die."

H.T. Wolferz out.

I think that if that scenario ever happened, and a person didn't know how to survive with only his/her mind, will and bare hands, then I don't think that they would last very long no matter how much stuff they stockpiled or how much they planned.

Hey Wolf, I was also an NBC on active duty for my whole tour. Started as an E1 and finished as E5.

Well, an economic collapse doesn't necessarily mean you're going to have to go live in the woods. So, I will have 2 major plans.

Plan A: Survive for the first week or so by looting stores and eating whatever can be eaten inside. Then, when that plan stops working because there's no electricity and nobody supplying the store I'll have to kill people and eat their food because I have no idea how to hunt.

Plan B: I'll try to avoid plan A for as long as I can, but if it comes to it, I'll do it. Instead I'll try and stay with this... have a gun and ammunition. Be very good at using said gun and ammunition. Travel with a group of 5-6 friends who you would trust with your life and can do things you can't (hunt, cook, purify water, etc.).

I live too close to the power plant. I am thinking if that shuts down, leaks, explodes, we are all done.

But since I am a single mother and would do anything I could to provide for my kids as long as I am able..I would start playing cutesy with all the neighbor men and steal their stuff.

Too scary for me to think about. In all honesty I couldn't survive.

My neighbor has stored up and filled his pantry with bottled water and canned foods, and goods.

I've stockpiled guns and ammunition.

Who's gonna go hungry?

No, I will probably spend most of my time fighting a guerilla war against the empire..err...the remnants of the government. If not, I'll probably be farming somewhere.

In all honesty, you'll most probably be spending most of your time fighting off the gangs that will form after the fact, trying to get to whatever you have.

If this scenario ever happens, there won't be much of a "government", except for those chosen few in bunkers.

It will be kill or be killed...and the wilderness will be your best bet for survival.

Actually, your best defense would be invisiblity. To be there and not be there, to see and not be seen.

EDIT:

I should add here that a great many people in the military and martial arts have been trained to subvert and counter firearms with nothing but their bare hands.

I would not count on, nor would I fear someone with a gun and/or rifle under these circumstances. I (personally) wouldn't put complete faith in any man-made instrument or technology.

The mind is the ultimate survival tool. It will always be.

Wow...for starters, I like the socialist upheaval scenario. Let's see....I've got chickens in the backyard and I make my own beer and wine, so I picture myself being sloppy drunk in the backyard cooking up scrambled eggs over an open fire and sitting there with my finger up my nose waiting for the incoming icbms.

Seriously though, I'm looking forward to the change in government and I look forward to working with all of you, my brothers, in the dawn of the new socialist government. You're gonna love it.

I would probably rob a bank and start a new world empire called "All hail Vixef". Then I would rename all the stars to Vixef. It would make stargazing a lot simpler, interesting and confusing. Or if you PAID me enough El Che, I could come help you build the new socialist government...

Seriously. I'd probably go live in the wilderness. It shouldn't be too hard to get there fast, as I have a huge forest as my next door neighbour. Only problem would be to enjoy life. I'm not sure if I would really want to stick around in THIS world if everything collapses.

COOL! Another gas passer

Did you attend the Chemical school?

Our Captain informed me one weekend that I was going to go to that school.

Lucky for me a training slot never opened up.

I was more than a bit a bit nervous about doing a live Nerve Gas training exercise.

My primary MOS was 62E(verything). Combat engineer. Trained for heavy equipment and cross trained for 12 Bravo grunt. The NBC slot opened up in our company and there were no volunteers to fill it. Our Supply Seargent happily volunteered me to fill it.

He had taken a great liking to me assisting him in the Supply Room, So much so, that he flopped a Post Security Clearance App on the desk in front of me one day so I could have unrestricted access to the Arms Room which was right next to the NBC cage. So, not only was I the NBC NCO, I was given responsibility to supervise the Armorer and keep a close eye on the security of the arms room. As an E-4 Specialist, this proved daunting when Platoon and Squad Seargents started giving me grief. I went straight to the Supply Seargent with my problem, he phoned the First Seargent and a few minutes later he issued me a full set of E-5 bars. The grief ended immediately, except for the lazy E-4's who had been in the company a number of years and not promoted. Most of them were livid.

I was in the 2nd year of my 6 year tour at the time.

I'm writing a Frelling book.

Somebody stop me!

Yup, it's going to take some wit and cunning to survive in a post apocalyptic world, not to mention some neanderthal brutality.

The Four Horsemen are riding as I speak. Sad part is, everyone expects it to be a sudden instantaneous event but, Famine and Pestilence will take some time to manifest.

I'm going to stop here because Biblical Prophecy and religion tends to upset alot of people.

Shingen..Maybe we should start a War Story thread in The Rubbish Pit....

Yeah, I went through the whole chemical school. 54B was the MOS, and at that time the 82nd Chemical School was still based at Ft. McClellen, Al. I think they've moved it Mo. now or something.

Did they make you strip and reassemble your weapon in a chemical environment to pass?

Most of my tour I was assigned to a recon unit, so they moved me up through e-1 thru e-3 within about 6 months, I then had to go through jump school, NCO school and SEREs at Ft Bragg for 3 weeks of pure hell.

After that it was weeks and weeks of pure boredom maintaining MOP gear and giving decon training classes, then out to the field for infantry/recon training in the rain and mud.

I had a blast the whole trip!

While this is science fiction .. do you think it's so far from reality?

quote:

2141

The technical advances made in the field of nuclear fusion in the last years were also utilized in arms development, which now results in the manufacturing of advanced hydrogen bombs in large numbers by the Federation. These offer an unimaginable concentration of radioactivity while showing a huge explosive effect and a high sphere of impact at the same time. The new warheads are used by the Federation mainly for the Cold Fusion long-range missiles.

February, 11th 2143

In the morning hours of February 11th the Starcruiser launches for its first and last voyage. 3,000 colonists from all population layers of the Chinese Empire are aboard. The destination of this voyage is kept secret. So is the technology which was installed in the last six months as an enhancement to the fusion drive.

February, 13th 2143

Two days following the launch of the Starcruiser the ship disappears from the instruments of imperial ground control. After a short search a Chinese flight squadron finds some debris which probably belongs to the Starcruiser.

February, 14th 2143

China accuses the Federation of not being able to accept the technological advancements of the Empire and implies that the Starcruiser was destroyed by a federation fighter squadron for this reason. The violent tempered Chinese dictator Xu Derui threatens the Federation with vengeance for the death of the 3,000 colonists.

February, 15th 2143

President Eva Goreman announces that the Federation has no interests in the Chinese plans for colonization and that they never had planned to sabotage them. Furthermore she considers the claims of China holding a technological leading position to be bold and provocative. China could only rightfully claim this, if they were in possession of detailed information about Federation technology. Should China thus have admitted the industry spying indirectly? Further on, Goreman announces that she feels sorry for the Starcruiser incident and that she wants to express her condolences to the remaining relatives of the 3,000 colonists. Although the destruction of the ship would seem to show that the Empire were always overestimating it's own abilities.

February, 16th 2143

Xu Derui announces that further proof for the presence of Federation fighters shortly before the disappearing of the Starcruiser has been found at the last known position of the ship. Enraged, he once again threatens with vengeance.

Goreman announces that same day that the Federation will not take these repeated and unfounded threats.

February, 17th 2143, 06:40 am

The sensors of a German radar station pick up three shadows above the British Channel, which are only visible for a few seconds.

February ,17th 2143, 06:58 am

It's a rainy morning in London, England, when suddenly a bright white light flashes through the city. Seconds later eight million people are dead.

February, 17th 2143, 07:45 am

A briefing of the crisis committee in Federation HQ, New York is held. It's decided to modulate the sensors of all radar installations to the frequencies of the German station, which detected the missiles that were sent to London.

February, 17th 2143, 08:02 am

Two Kerolin Stealth missiles hit Berlin, Germany, and destroy the city. Since the sensors of the Federation satellites were aligned to the navigation frequency of the missiles, they were able to detect the missiles 40 seconds prior to impact. In addition, 27 other missiles approach other major Federation cities.

February, 17th 2143, 08:07 am

With the SALT-17 treaty of 2104 Federation and Empire had agreed on not producing or using any Kerolin Stealth missiles. The deployment of this treacherous weapon by the Empire will now destroy all crowded areas of the Federation within the next 20 minutes.

At 08:07 am, few minutes prior to the total destruction of the Federation, President Eva Goreman gives the command to counter-strike with Cold Fusion long-distance missiles. 85 of these missiles are launched from federated platforms, targeting imperial cities. President Goreman and more than 90% of the Federation's population will not live to see the moment of their impact.

February, 17th 2143, 14:00

In the last six hours approximately 23 of 24 billion human lives have been eradicated.

Interesting story there Chavik,

In essence there were what,? 1 billion leftovers to put in the fridge?

We have witnessed a great deal of science fiction becoming science fact in the last 200 years,So I consider nothing too far fetched in this day and age.

I'm not real keen on seeing unrelenting close minded governments turning this planet into a ball of ice. I don't think mankind could recover from it and if we're going to be that frigging stupid,we don't deserve to survive.
