jamotto Report post Posted December 2, 2004 Government to watch every corner in country by 2020 quote:BEIJING - China plans to launch more than 100 satellites before 2020 to watch every corner of the country, state-run China Central Television quoted a government official as saying on Tuesday. A "large surveying network" would be set up to monitor water reserves, forests, farmland, city construction and "various activities of society," a government official said, without elaborating. "The aim is that, at any time and any place, we can obtain necessary data on any event through watching the Earth from space," said Shao Liqin, an official with the Ministry of Science and Technology. China regularly sends research satellites into orbit, and in October last year became the third nation successfully to put a man in space when a single astronaut orbited Earth 14 times. Last month, the retrievable chamber of China's 20th recoverable satellite returned to Earth with a bang, crashing through the roof of a house.
El Che Report post Posted December 3, 2004 Good for China. Perhaps the US should follow suit and expand space technology. Am I the only one who was fascinated by the lunar launches as a child only to grow up and discover one boring space shuttle launch after the other? I admit the mars thing was very exciting but...why haven't we gone back to the moon? Jeez, I thought we'd have a base on the moon by the time I was 30. Soback Report post Posted December 3, 2004 China + Space technology = Scary Watch every corner of their country? El Che, do you know what China is like? It's like Russia in the 1960's. You obviously lack the understanding when you say good for China. They monitor, screen and filter the text messages send from phone to phone. Living in China is like living under Stalin. Do you know anything about Stalin? If you knew just a little tiny bit it would be enough to make your skin crawl, and just the concept of China with modern enough technology is making my hair stand on end. Living in US is making people ignorant of what they really have, and complacent in letting the government take it away little by little. Also with that ignorance comes the "pink glasses" vision of the world, other countries intentions, and savagness of the human race. The most ruthless thug in US is a kitty compared to what the most benign thug is like in any third world country or the communist/socialist government is like. Soback Report post Posted December 3, 2004 No El Che, when China comes out and starts a world war, then all the people who take off their pink glasses will be too little too late. Me, not am I only early, but I am following the schedule too...
Captain McMahon Report post Posted December 6, 2004 I think the world is scary enough knowing technology like nukes are even feasible and obtainable. I mean on a governmental and perhaps extreme black market hotspots.
