Charles Lindsey Report post Posted May 17, 2007 In the article it states that these guys have created a program to use spare processing power from the Playstations (and regular PCs) to form a humongous networked computer. They can perform calculations in weeks that would take them years if they only had one computer even if it was a supercomputer. They are working on protein folding which has applications for medicine. [email protected] is the "Search for Extra Terrestrial Life" and does sort of the same thing with its program. They use the spare processing power of regular people's PCs to scan star maps and such. I'm sure there is an article on this board about [email protected] Each person's PC does a small calculation and then the main computer puts them all together. I'm pretty sure that's how it works. Cool stuff I think. Especially with the medical application.
echo Report post Posted May 21, 2007 That's sort of what I thought but it seemed weird that it could happen. That is really cool.
