The Unreal Tournament 2003 Demo is out now.

Let me just say, this game is awesome. The gameplay, the sound, the visuals, everything. Top Notch.

If you are a fan of Unreal Tournament or even Quake, then I highly recommend downloading this demo and checking it out. It also includes a stripped down version of the Unreal Benchmark utility that Anandtech uses. I can not wait for the game!

I played it last night, was one of the first to snag it I imagine since I was refreshing websites every 5 seconds for the updates...

Loved it, would have posted more about it but my new DSL line wasn't letting me post on forums or emails....

My ISP sucks, but anyway I've got DSL again and am back in my new house so will see me around more often now.

Derek,

I am very interested on hearing your opinion about their Unreal Technology (the engine, etc.). How do you think that has progressed since the original Unreal Tournament? I guess what I am asking for, is any opinions or comments on the technical (technology) aspect of the game....

Thanks,

Shawn

For the looks, America's army is truely impressive. But then again, it's a present time game, there's little room for special effects Although framerates have been most excellent.

I like the sports feel to it. The new announcer, the 'twitch' reflex is engaging. What sets it apart is the new physics, and atmosphere.

I don't complain about it being the same old FPS, same as I don't complain about football being the "same old run back and forth across the field with a piece of pigskin filled with air" game.

The point of the excercise is that, although it isn't story driven - it's competitive, and that's what drives people to play those games. Hell we've played baseball for over a hundred years, when some bonehead first picked up a stick and a rock and swung.

However BF1942 does kick major ass so I'm torn as well...

IMO, the technology and the models are the only changed entities in UT2K3. And thats not a bad thing, because clearly, thats what they set out to do.

You can have all the best technology in the world and still either have a crappy, mediocre or same ol', same ol' game. To me, it is just more of the same thing.

Don't get me wrong, my first impressions of it being crap are only in regards to it being the same re-gurgitated standard fps fare. Now, thats not a bad thing and there are those it was designed for. I guess I must be getting older, as such, my taste in games keeps evolving. I have always been a fan of the UT games, but from what I've seen of this, I'm only going to hope that Unreal2 brings in the engaging single player game that the original was notorious for.

Same here except it only took 30 minutes for me to get bored stiff.

I bought unreal2 a couple days ago, and have finished it(2 nights of playing), and moved on. I bought it because of the above post. I liked the interior of their ship , well enough, but once you have finished the game..... its over. This is the one thing which has put the whole battle cruiser series light years ahead of the rest.(IMHO)
