Steam just updated my copy of AAW to v1.00.39 a few minutes ago. I fired it up and the game CTD right after the 3000AD logo finished playing. AAW ran fine earlier today before the Steam update when I was on v1.00.37.
The CTD right after the 3000AD logo is occurring with AoA as well.
Anyone else with the Steam versions getting this?

I don't have AoA installed, but I am also getting a CtD immediately after the 3000AD logo plays in AAW.

Can you try clearing the game cache? I will look into that now.

Can someone look in the /steamapps/common/allaspectwarfare/docs folder and tell me if any of the PDF files there are not in English?

OK. We're waiting to hear back from Valve, but according to my check, AOA has not updated at all yet. If you look in that game folder, you should see AOA.EXE with a more recent date/time stamp.
Anyway we think that this is a problem with the Steamworks copy protection. Until I hear back from Valve, we can't do anything unfortunately.
