Zelon freighter Korepus

Polaris System

Cmdr Wold's eyes flew open with a start. He laid there on that field pad as his mind cought up with his body and he recalled where he was. With stretching muscles and popping joints he slowly sat up and began thinking through his plans for the day.

In far less time then the previous day the mini-comp was connected back into the main computer system. A few more key punches and the parsing program was searching through the now unlocked data files. Next, a small case containing thermite was set onto the mini-comp with wires running to the palm-lock by the only door to this cubical. Now he was free to wander the ship as the computer dogged down the data he was sure existed.

Thirty minutes later near the engine room Cmdr. Wold passed a hallway on his right. Just then the wall on the left just behind his head burst in to molten metal shooting small red-hot drops in all directions. Cmdr. Wold didn't even know he moved until his eyes refocused and found himself on the deck, passed the offending hallway, looking back from whence he had come. The glaring hole in the wall and black metal balls scattered across the floor greeted him. What also greeted him was the deep cackling throaty roar of laughter? Cautously, whith sweat rolling off his forehead and back he inched forward until he could peak around the corner. This action brought forth even more laughter from the attacker. The camouflage was so good that he couldn't spot the shooter until said shooter, using the left hand, raised up the face shield. Cmdr. Wold's jaw dropped at the sight of

Kirin is on Pixan if you want to meet up with him at the Lounge Jamont. If there's anyone else there Kirin is in the Lounge! Just meander your way down there!

[rp]

Kirin sat at the bar in the Pixan Starstation. His mind was addled but he figured that it was probably from the alchohol rather than from the problems that have occured over the past few days.

He lowered his head and coughed slightly. I really need to get my thoughts together. He smiled. Ahhh screw it... He waved at a bar tender. "Another beer!"

Galcom HQ, Earth, Sol

A dull rumble began to echo throughout the passageways of Galcom HQ, causing some to panic and others to fear the worst. For those that panicked, some began to scream and broke down emotionally, some just stood there ÔÇô not knowing what to do, whilst others began running down the passageways. Where they would run to, they did not know, for there was no true escape from whatever it was that caused the panic. For those that feared the worst, some added their screams to those that were panicking, some began to run down the passageways like Chicken Little screaming The gams are coming....the Gams are coming. There were a select few that maintained their composure throughout the confusion and mayhem trying to restore some semblance of order and managed to succeed in a small way. These individuals were the ones with experience with the unexpected. The ones that had some seen or had engaged in combat, somewhere in the galaxy.

Gallion found himself plastered face-first to the deck plates of one passageway with his two large and heavily armed marine escorts atop of him. A small mouse was beginning to form on his brow where his head had made contact with the deck plates. Jacob Meyers, Esq. was nowhere to be seen. He had joined the ranks of those that had panicked and tried to escape whatever it was that was happening within Galcom HQ.

When the echoes and rumbling dwindled, the two marines quickly ascertained the situation. Something had happened inside Galcom HQ, something that reminded the two of the sound and feel detonating explosive charges. Once they determined that there was no immediate threat they quickly got up off their charge and assisted him to his feet ÔÇô rather forcibly ÔÇô and resumed their station at the front and rear of Gallion. Just then, two anomalies appeared, one ahead and one behind GallionÔÇÖs party, which to the experienced eye indicated the beginning of a transporter operation. Soon the anomalies disappeared and were replaced with two teams of Marines, also heavily armed. A brief firefight ensued and the air was heavy with the ozone smell of the discharge of energy weapons. The two marine escorts were down, one dead, the other mortally wounded. Gallion caught a stray laser bolt in his shoulder and thigh. Two of the Marines that transported in were also down ÔÇô both dead. One Marine, with the insignia of a Gunnery Sergeant on his armor, walked up to Gallion, survey the wounds and then spoke into his commlink. Several seconds later, all the Marines, plus Gallion, were transported off and away from the confines of Galcom HQ.

Rico was tense.

Rabbit Trick complete echoed on the bridge commlink speakers...

Deactivate Cloak! was RicoÔÇÖs quick reply...

Transport initiated followed several seconds later with Rabbit back in the hat!

So far so good, their mission had succeeded, against all odds. Something that he was not sure about.

Activate Cloak!

Cloaking System Activated...

Engage Hyperdrive!

But snatching the Rabbit was easier than the egression that he and the crew of the Graf Spee had to do.

Hyperdrive Activated ... entering hyperspace

Lt. Cmdr. Cuervo only knew where their destination was, not why they were going there or why he had gone along with GunneyÔÇÖs plan to snatch the Rabbit.

Leaving Hyperspace ... Approaching Jump Point

It still wouldnÔÇÖt be easy. Rico gave himself and the Graf Spee five minutes before the hounds were released and the Graf Spee became the hunted instead of the hunter. Next stop, the land of fairies and pixies, lions, and tigers, and bears.

Entering Jupiter, Sol....

Next way point was the wormhole and the Galcom gauntlet between here and Lyrius. Rico began to pray. Why he didnÔÇÖt know but he had a feeling that he would need a miracle to reach their destination.

Entering Jupiter Space

Bridge

As they cleared the jumpgate, Tacops Officer Christel Swordo immediatly checked for any trace of the shuttle they were pursuing.

"Sorry Sir, we're too late. Although there are several trade ships and an Issurgent vessel in the area."

"Remain cloaked, we don't want that Issurgent mistaking us for a Galcom Vessel. I don't have time for another fire fight." Cmdr. Stone ordered, refering to the hide and seek fire fight he had pulled off in Centris after the Orion Base spotted them. He was still wondering how they had seen him while he was cloaked and on Passive Radar.

"Zeke, maybe one of these vessels could tell us where the shuttle went," XO Jake Burke suggested.

"That is what I am hoping for. Send the following message to all trade vessels," Zeke cleared his throat beforing saying,"To all trade vessels, this is Commander Zeke Stone of the UCV-Susceptor, I am offering a 25,000 credit reward to anyone who can give tell me where a certain shuttle was heading." he gave his Comms officer Jaymin Kowalski the cut transmission signal.

"Message has been sent Sir," Kowalski informed him.

After several minutes a reply came through.

"Sir, we are being hailed by the Terran Trader Vessel UCV-Tidal Wave," Jaymin said.

"On Screen."

"Greetings, I am Commander Sonya Conners of UCV-Tidal Wave. I believe I have some information that may be of use to you."

"Well, by all means, please continue."

"The Money First, Commander." Cmdr. Conners urged.

Zeke quietly set an intercept coarse to the Tidal Wave. He knew she wouldn't reveal the info without the money and wanted to make sure it was the info he wanted.

"I have transfered the credits to your ship, now continue..."

"I saw a shuttle not too long ago, go through the Pluto jumpgate." Sonya Conners told him.

"What was the shuttle's designation?" Zeke questioned.

"Err....what? I didn't check," Cmdr. Conners studdered.

"Well you must at least know what race it was..." Zeke interrogated, silently activating the hyperdrive.

The Female Commander smiled, Zeke thought she had a lovely smile, "You caught me, no matter, I'll be out of here in two winks," She said ending the transmission.

Commander Sonya Conners was happy with herself, she managed to make some free money without wasting fuel.

"Jump anomaly forming!" her XO yelled in surprise.

"Get us out of here, fast!" she ordered the helmsman.

"Tractor Beam Engaged," Jake said.

"Warning, sheilds are down," the computer said, responding to the Tractor Beam.

"We got em Zeke."

"Hail them."

Sonya Conners lovely face again appeared on the viewscreen.

"Commander, I believe you have something that belongs to me. As you can see, your ship is no match for my Mk. II Battlecruiser, so I suggest you return it to me." Stone warned the crew of the Tidal Wave.

"I will return your credits if you give me your word that we will not be harmed." Commander Conners negotiated.

"Commander, I don't even have time for an easy battle." he reassured ending the transmission.

After the credits were returned he disengaged the tractor beam and the UCV-Tidal Wave left peacefully.

"Commander, we're being hailed again." the Comms Officer spoke up.

[/rp]

If anyone wishes to be the one hailing me, feel free. Otherwise I will continue with my original plan. My this is fun, biggrin.gif

Debris Field

Earth, Sol

The gunnery officer aboard the generis looked at the tactical screen before him, it had been a long shift and he was looking forward to getting a little rest. So far nothing unusual had happened; Galcom seemed to have launched a ship, but nothing had appeared on scanners. The officer decided that he would file a report about the malfunctioning sensors when he was relieved.

He tiredly looked over to the command chair where Kyle Antilles sat snoozing... these covert missions always relaxed normal procedures. The officer turned back to the display and began studying the region for any anomolous hyperjumps as per his orders. He sat up, suddenly wide awake, and quickly shook his Commander back to consiousness.

Commodore Antilles wondered what on earth it was that warented such an awakening. He was about to scold the brash officer when he noticed he was saying something, Antilles decided to hear what it was first.

"Sir, I have deteced an anomoulous hyperjump as per your orders. Navgation is locking in coordinates of the exit vector at the Earth to Jupitor jump point." The gunnery officer stated briskly.

"Acknowledged, Gunnery. Proceed," Antilles said, now fully awake and glad he hadn't wasted time yelling at the officer.

He felt the brief weight before the compensators kicked in as the generis slipped into hyperspace. Several seconds later the ship was at full burn for the jump point and the relative safty beyond. If all was as he hoped, he would be following the Old Corsair's vessel.

"Gunnery!" Antilles barked, "Drop half of our mines, mixed types, on this side of the gate; have them stabilized for maximum cover. Drop the other half when we exit the gate, same pattern."

"Gunnery acknowledges!" came the formal reply, antilles felt a slight vibration as the mines exited the ship then nothing as the ship passed through the point itself.

When they entered realspace once more, the gunnery officer began deploying the second spread of mines, they probably wouldn't stop a determined group for long, especially with another Galcom station so close. They would give him and his quarry a few extra minutes and with any luck, a few damaged ships following them.

"Engage cloak and begin searching for the next anomolous hyperdrive signatures," Antilles stated then leaned back in the command chair as his crew busied themselves with their tasks.

[rp off]

ok I know the generis usually doesn't have mines, and probably no cloak. However I did requisition this one for a covert mission, and it has a few extra suprises built in. biggrin.gif

Kirin smiled at the man. "Kirin." He said simply. "Where you from?" His voice seems to have slurred a bit...His eyes filled with sorrow but well controlled.

He examined the man. "Galcom huh? Well, I doubt you've been through what I have in the past few hours. Damn! Women! I tell you!"

He slams back the rest of his beer and orders another. "She didn't deserve what happened to her."

He mutters somthing about Insurgent relations then guzzles down a bit more beer. "So how's your life going?" He manages a drunken smile, his Japanese face glowing a faint red under the tinted skin.

08:30

Commander Chavik had sent messages to each of the fleet leaders and had not gotten a response from anyone yet. That Rattler was gone he already knew but apparently so was everyone else. Before Chavik had retired he had sent messages to the various Fleet Leaders and still no one had responded. Even the Station commanders were gone. This was unlike anything Chavik had seen before. Certainly commanders had gone off station before but never had they simply disappeared. Worry was quickly turning to genuine concern.

At 07:00 hours he had ordered the Phoenix fully stocked and a thorough systems check done. The Station was a bit short on a couple of things so he contacted Commodore Parias and ordered the remaining items he wanted.

The systems check was coming along more slowly than he would have liked. He had ordered a level 5 check though. From the Station's launch bay he could see technician's flying over the hull in EVA suits and the occasional flash as they repaired minor nicks armor. After watching that for a while he went aboard to check on the status of the internal systems. Touring inside he noticed the techs had the weapons computer torn almost completely down. The same was true with the nav computer. Seeing that everything was going well Chavik went back to his quarters.

13:40

The systems check was winding down. It had taken a couple more tours to prove how serious he was about having it completed on time and soon everyone got the message. He had frightened one young ensign so badly he had bolted. After calming him down Chavik had helped replace the part.

14:15

After helping replace the stubborn part Chavik was dirty. He returned to his office and checked messages. Still no replies. He went to his quarters and cleaned up.

16:00

The systems check and consequent repairs to the Phoenix had been completed. She was in better shape than she had been in several years. Chavik was satisfied with that but not content. Something was up. He ordered the crew to return to the Phoenix. Upon entering the bridge Chavik ordered launch and a flight path to The Den.

16:30

After arriving at the Den Chavik went to his office there and checked messages once again. There were still none. No one on the station knew where Rattler or Akira were so Chavik made a decision. He went to Rattler's office. He wasn't sure if he would regret it or not but he did it. Chavik input an access code Rattler had given him long ago. The door to Rattler's office opened. Chavik entered and the door shut immediately behind him and several panels lit. The last message had been sent tightbeam to Jester. The fact that Jester was involved prived to Chavik just how serious the situation was.

Disregarding the high level access that code had given him Chavik shut down the systems and left. Worried now nore than ever he went to his quarters in The Den and tried to sleep.

[/rp] cwm15.gif

Ok I am catching up by date. Rattler; I hope access code was ok. Hopefully no major character will run away with story before I catch up. You've already jumped dates with no explanation. I'm trying to catch up while filling each date with something. smile.gif I got a whole RP day to post stuff in. Just don't want the fireworks to start without me.

Pixan Star Station

Command Deck of the S.S Vulture

As expected, the journey from the Orion starstation to Pixan had been interesting. The preceding 24 hours had pretty much been spent in near silence, with the occasional outbreak of hostilities between the three travellers. Although Fleet Commander Savage clearly outranked his subordinate, Commander Akuma Minako, it didnÔÇÖt stop her launching into him from time to time. During one such session, Rattler was resting quietly in the rear cabin and couldnÔÇÖt hear the exchange that was going on.

ÔÇÿHow could you bring me here under these conditions?ÔÇÖ said Minako. ÔÇÿThatÔÇÖs so cold, calculated. I didnÔÇÖt think you could be like that.ÔÇÖ

Savage remained silent, and tried to ignore her accusations.

Akuma persisted. ÔÇÿIn all the time IÔÇÖve been here, I thought you were a man of integrity and honour. And then I discover that youÔÇÖre not the man I thought you were.ÔÇÖ

ÔÇÿThatÔÇÖs enough.ÔÇÖ Said Savage quietly.

Akuma pushed her luck further. ÔÇÿNo, itÔÇÖs not enough Karl. You brought me here as a bargaining chip. You are using me to keep your own hide safe.ÔÇÖ

Savage sighed, and continued to stare blankly into the view screen. ÔÇÿItÔÇÖs not exactly like that, Akuma.ÔÇÖ

ÔÇÿIsnÔÇÖt it?ÔÇÖ she countered. ÔÇÿYou said it yourself, and you didnÔÇÖt offer any better explanations.ÔÇÖ

This time, Savage turned in his seat and moved in close to her. ÔÇÿYou really think itÔÇÖs a good idea for me to reveal my intentions to the galaxies most wanted man? You think me stupid? You really think I would help put all this together just on good faith? Wake up, Akuma. This is about as real as it gets. This could be some elaborate trap, revenge for what happened to Akira. Who knows for sure what is really going on here? IÔÇÖm sorry you have to be here, and IÔÇÖm sorry if you think IÔÇÖm using you just to guarantee my safety ÔÇô ItÔÇÖs not why youÔÇÖre really here. It just happens to be enough to let that man know that IÔÇÖm not going to take any bullshit.ÔÇÖ

As he finished, Akuma pulled back from him. She considered his words for a moment, then quietly responded. ÔÇÿYouÔÇÖve got him all wrong, Karl. He wouldnÔÇÖt do that. I believe in him 100%. He wouldnÔÇÖt lie to me, and he wouldnÔÇÖt put me in harms way deliberately.ÔÇÖ

ÔÇÿMaybe.ÔÇÖ Said Savage. ÔÇÿMaybe not. Part of me wants to have as much faith in him as you do, but the other half is always reminded that he is the enemy, and isnÔÇÖt to be trusted.ÔÇÖ

ÔÇÿBut you have to trust him, Karl. HeÔÇÖs right about this, and I think you know that, donÔÇÖt you?ÔÇÖ

Savage took his time in answering, and when he did, it was only a slow nod.

ÔÇÿIf weÔÇÖre going to stop all this from happening, we have to work together, trust each other. If the two of you cant do this, then what chance will the rest of us have when we get together?ÔÇÖ

Savage took in a deep breath, and blew it out slowly. He knew she was right, had known it all along. He didnÔÇÖt want to really believe it though. Having complete faith in Rattlers doomsday scenario seemed to make the enormity of the burden on his shoulders all the more real. It was HIS problem, and HIS responsibility. He was recruiting people that in all likelihood were going to die in the next few days. Worse than that, if he failed, then the human race as a species would fail.

It was more than Savage thought he could bare, and in his eyes, it justified his lousy mood and less than friendly attitude to his nemesis. He needed someone to blame for all this, and since it was the Insurgent Commander that brought this to his attention, why not him?

Both officers remained quiet from that point onwards, only occasionally exchanging words once Rattler had returned from his troubled slumber.

Currently, the three of them were on board the S.S Vulture, ahead of most of those that were invited to attend, and preparing to receive them with a lengthy and detailed brief.

During the discussions held back on the Orion Starstation in Savages quarters, both the Fleet Commander and Rattler had discussed, and come to the conclusion that despite carefully choosing those that were to be recruited into for the mission, they couldnÔÇÖt be completely trusted. To an extent, Savage could trust his counterpartÔÇÖs officers with maintaining secrecy as to the assignment. He was more concerned with those from within his own ranks, several of whom could possibly be in favour of the actions taken by Earthcom.

To ensure secrecy and limit the chances of an incident occurring, they had enlisted the aid of mercenaries on the station to act as guards and jailors for any officers deemed a danger after the briefing.

Should anyone be found to be at odds with their mission, they were to be imprisoned, forcibly if necessary and held at Pixan until the mission was complete. Regardless of whether or not those recruited joined them or not, each man or woman was to be stripped of personal weapons and not allowed access to communications equipment during the mission.

At least, that was the plan.

How this would work in practice, neither of them knew. For now, it was the best they could do, and the best would have to be good enough.

ÔÇÿAny last thoughts?ÔÇÖ said Rattler, sitting himself down again around the round table in the Vultures spacious briefing room.

Savage shook his head and regarded the Insurgent with cold eyes.

Rattler noticed the Fleet Commanders curious expression, and queried it. ÔÇÿYou donÔÇÖt trust me, do you Commander?ÔÇÖ

ÔÇÿIn truth, no, I donÔÇÖt.ÔÇÖ said Savage. ÔÇÿAnd if you were in my position, you wouldnÔÇÖt trust me either.ÔÇÖ

Rattler smirked. ÔÇÿPerhaps not, but IÔÇÖd probably have a better sense of humour about it.ÔÇÖ

ÔÇÿI donÔÇÖt see whatÔÇÖs meant to be so funny.ÔÇÖ Said Savage. ÔÇÿThis isnÔÇÖt exactly what I saw myself doing in the future while I was at the academy. How do you think it feels, going up against my own people, working with my mortal enemies? Am I meant to be cheerful about what weÔÇÖre about to do?ÔÇÖ

Rattler sighed, and leaned on his arms. ÔÇÿNo, I can see why you feel this way, but considering this: If not you, then who? Who else would step up and take responsibility for this?ÔÇÖ

ÔÇÿWhy did you come to me?ÔÇÖ asked Savage. ÔÇÿWhat makes me so special. Why didnÔÇÖt you go to a more experienced commander?ÔÇÖ

Rattler smiled. ÔÇÿBecause I like you, commander. And because that I know, despite youÔÇÖre less than exceptional career, youÔÇÖre a good officer. A little unorthodox, but a good officer none the less. You get things done, and you do it in your own creative way. The universe tends to favour you, and if thereÔÇÖs one thing we are really going to need itÔÇÖs favour.ÔÇÖ

ÔÇÿI see.ÔÇÖ Snorted Savage. ÔÇÿIÔÇÖm your lucky rabbits foot. Charming.ÔÇÖ

Rattler shook his head. ÔÇÿNo,ÔÇÖ he started. ÔÇÿYouÔÇÖre my partner. Even better than a rabbits foot.ÔÇÖ

Despite his glum mood, Savage couldnÔÇÖt help but burst out laughing. His response had a knock on effect with Rattler, who in turn began to chuckle, then roar with laughter of his own.

From another cabin, Akuma Minako stepped in, looking ever so slightly bemused at the sight of both her commanding officer and the only other person in the universe she considered family ÔÇô both mortal enemies ÔÇô laughing like naughty school children to an unheard joke.

The sight of Akuma Minako, striding in through the doorway and dropping her hands onto her hips further amused the two men. The look on her face was priceless, and for the first time in longer than either of them could recall, things werenÔÇÖt really all that wrong in the world.

Sadly for them all, in less than two hours, that was all going to change.

Pixan Starstation

Pixan. Home and office for hundreds of the worst of societies mal-contents. The battered, grimy gathering point for the galaxies' flotsam, where the faliures of social control, personality reajusters, and legal systems meet to conduct the daily business of stealing, cheating, and murder.

And a half-decent Emprian Ale, reflected Liev. After docking (and the usual bribes that such a place would require), he had logged in to the station 'net and rented a room for the night, then checked the registry and found where the SS Raven was docked.

After checking in to his room (noting the grim efficiency of the table provided as the only furnishings), Liev decided to tour a bit if the station. He had only been on a starstation once before, and Orion HQ was the usual sterile millitary habitat that could be found across the galaxy. But Pixan, after seeing centuires of abuse only occasional upkeep, steched of uniqueness. And booze.

Liev stopped his tour as he turned the corner of the hallway. Strewn haphazardly through the corridors of the station, he noticed shops and booths selling all kinds of wares, both legal and not, all with vendors blantently proclaiming thier wares. He noticed several bars, but all looked rather undesirable, and quite dangerous. But he now gazed upon a rather quiet watering hole, and from it was wafting the disticive aroma of Emprian Ale. Liev had always said that the quality of an establishment could be told immediately by the Emprian Ale they offered. He decided to give it the test.

21:23 hours

He gargled the last of the his ale. After a half hour of sampling the various brands offered by the bar (drawing looks from the other customers), the owner (a Centris himself) offered Liev the "private stock". Liev knew what that meant. Back on Centris, it was quite customery to offer only the weak, watered down varieties of ale to tourists, so they could go home and brag about drinking the most potent brew in the galaxy without killing themselves. "Private stock" meant the real thing, all 250 proof. Normally this would be an honor. But had heard, from his friends who have done this sort of thing themself, that the owner would continue plying the unlucky drinker with a drugged version of Emperian Ale. When the customer passed out, he would be happily relived of his money. A friendly joke in most respects, which Liev would have otherwise have been happy to oblige in, but there was buisness to do. The Vultyre would not wait (he guessed).

"No, though I offer thanks, sir, I don't have time today. Perhaps later we can play [untranslatable]."

The owner was clearly shocked at Liev's command of Emperian, then smilied (or equivalent thereof). "Ah, I see there are no fools here tonight! You caught me, sir, and I can tell be your accent that we come from the same place, though different bloodlines we be. I too and from Centris! I hear you, you need to go now, but let me tell this: you are hear on buisness, this I see. Pixan has been rustling today. People of Galcom have entered and left my bar, and others say the same. Rumors of the Devils (Gammulans have a place in Emperian mythos) spread and are told. Watch your step, for Pixan is a danger at the best of time, which this is not."

"I shall heed, sir, and thank for the advice. May your wishes grow."

"May yours."

They exchanged bows, and Liev went on his way, now seeing every guard, every pistal, evey bulge of clothing. He was certain that ceratain parties would not want him here, but he could not say which or why. But the meesage from "Blades" Savage sounded sinister.

He reached his destination. The bay doors opened, and the tattered bulk of the SS Vulture loomed.

[/rp]

Whew! That was quite a bit there! Anyways, I'm here. Onward! biggrin.gif

Append: cwm3.gif I said SS Raven, didn't I? Whoops! Mistake coreected (hey, there both birds! biggrin.gif )

Sol, Jupiter

Hyperspace

As soon as they entered the Jump Anomaly, Commander Zeke Stone knew something was wrong. There was a bright flash, then every color seemed to be reversed. Zeke noticed that he could see everyone's and everything's insides. A sort of swirl effect happened and everything was normal, except they were still frozen. Next everyone jumped forward and they looked as if someone had taken a picture of them moving very fast. Another flash and they were back in real space at the exit anomaly.

Zeke immediately hit a button on his chair which contacted his Cheif Science Officer, Jet Thompson.

"Thompson here, what is it Sir?"

"What just happened!" Zeke demanded.

"Well Sir, let me finish some tests here." Thompson replied, surprising Cmdr. Stone with his quick responce to the situation.

"Oh, dear..." Thompson said.

"WHAT!?" Zeke yelled, something he tends to do when he's nervous or confused, in this case, both.

"Well, Sir, I was running the initial test on that new reactor in shuttle four exactly when we entered hyperspace. When I activated the reactor it emmited a quantum pulse that mixed with the energy from the jump anomaly. This caused the Jump anomaly to act as a sort of Time Rift...."

"Get to the point!" Zeke ordered.

"In short, Sir, it tossed us ahead in the timeline by 2 days, 21 hours and 10 minutes." Thompson briefly concluded.

"Damn! We'll never catch that shuttle now!" XO Burke blurted out.

"Never say...." Zeke started and was interrupted by Helmsman, Tobias LeBlanc.

"Mines! Dead Ahead!"

"All stop! Sheilds Up!" Zeke acted quickly.

"All stop, Aye Sir. Sheilds Up, Aye Sir" the helm and tactical said in chorus.

"We'll have to take the long way to Earth." Jake Burke suggested.

"Navigation, plot a course to Pluto and then to Earth." Zeke ordered.

Everyone on the bridge heard the familar sound of the engines powering down, then the lights went out. Zeke tried to contact his Cheif Engineer, Jesse Black, but the comm system was down.

"You!" Zeke yelled across the bridge with a finger pointing at a now incredibly nervous marine,"Go down to engineering and find out what's going on!"

The marine left quickly, relieved to be out of the spot light and anxious to follow his orders as quickly as possible. As he was entering the turboshaft, Jet Thompson was coming out.

"Sorry, Sir, I didn't get here fast enough it seems. The quantum flux has distorted the ships main reactor. It knocked it out of sync with time, or rather the reactor is still in May 15th, while we are in May 18th. It is gaining on us at twice the speed of the normal flow of time and I estimate it will catch up in 2 days, 21 hours, and 10 minutes." Jet completed.

"So we have to run completely off the solar reactors until then?" Zeke quizzed.

"Yes, Sir."

"We'll have to turn the ship somehow so the solar reactors will click in." Jake added.

"Well, Jake let's hope the person who laid this mine field isn't still here, and if he is, let's hope he isn't a Galcom Officer."

She walked out into the hallway and suddenly froze. Her neck tingled with a feeling of dred and she bolted towards the bridge. "Somthing isn't right gentlemen."

She moved towards Rattler and Blades with little hesitation. "I'm not sure what but I really don't feel safe here at the moment..."

07:00

Chavik awoke slowly. He sat up in bed and sighed. He was no longer worried about the missing commanders but he was determined to find out what had happened. He showered and prepared for the day. He went back to his office and examined records. Everything had appeared normal until Rattler had gathered a battle group. After that the reports had stopped. Whatever it was ahd been very important Chavik supposed. No flight plan had been recorded and once they had left the system all tracking had stopped. Chavik spent the better part of the morning going thru everyone's files. Everything had been normal until this. And then something important had happened. Chavik could not guess and Rattler's message didn't help.

10:30

A few more supplies had been loaded and Chavik had been on a scavenger hunt himself. He went to Akira's labs and got a few of the special toys Akira was fond of producing. That the lab technician chose to explain them in exquisite detail left Chavik with a lingering feeling of Deja vu. A laser pen was Chavik's personal favorite. At low power it was an ordinary laser light pointer but turned up it was something a bit more. Shoes with secret compartments in the heels seemed to be standard. He was shown other more exotic devices but he rejected all but the pen and the shoes. Some small persuasion convinced him to take a firearm that broke down into various peices.

12:30

Chavik broke for lunch. The worry was completely gone now. It had been replaced by the anticipation of doing something. The trip to Antis had driven home the fact that Pixan was an enemy station. There would be no docking with the Phoenix. The knee jerk "stay out of my yard" defense had proven that. Primed and ready to go she was useless. Chavik mulled over this as he ate his lunch. She wasn't entirely useless. She was a launch platform. Shuttles were disregarded by stations as they were not weaponless. He thought on this more.

18:30

Chavik had come up with a plan. Without knowing what he was getting into it was shaky but the best he could come up with. He returned to the Phoenix and they plotted course for Polaris2.

19:00

The Phoenix arrived at Polaris2 and docked with Velari Starstation. Chavik gave general shore leave in rotational patterns. He himself went to his quarters and went to bed thinking about tomorrow. There was much to do.

Lenen Space, Debris Field

"Max, it is time." a voice quietly coaxed from the dark. Slater was instantly awake.

"Thank you Magan, report."

"The SS Raven and the SS Vulture have both dock with Pixan Starstation. There have been a number of jump signatures of incoming traffic, all have been logged for identification at your conveniece, Max."

"OK Magan, uncloak us and head us in. Keep the ship at yellow and set shields a 40%, better to be causious."

"Yes Max."

Slater headed for the mess to get something to eat. He was a man who tried to prepare for all situations. The "Black Witch" shuddered as her engines began their job. He would be at Pixan a little after 24:00hrs, just in time to find one of his operatives at Docking Command. The "Black Witch" would not appear on the docking logs preventing the casual observer from spotting her.

Lenen Space, Aproach to Pixan

Magan's voice came over the comm system, "Max, we are within docking range of Pixan Starstation."

"Thanks, lets grab a berth and put the old "Witch" to bed."

"Aye,Sir. Pixan Docking Command, this is the "Black Witch" requesting docking clearence."

"This is Pixan, you are cleared to docking bay 6. That's special, just for you Magan. I really have to meet you someday."

"Thanks control, but I'm confined to ship,"

Slater smiled thinking that the voice of Magan was being generated by a computer. The ship gave a small lerch as the station's docking beam engaged.

"Magan, when the ship is berthed, set the security sentries and secure the ship."

"OK, Max."

01:05hrs, May 18th 3008

Lenen Space, Pixan Station

Docking Bay 6

Slater disembarked from the "Witch", and headed for the stations hub. He wanted to blend with the local color, something that he was very good at. There was a little matter of checking out the station before anything else. He knew that Karl would have hired some of the locals to act as security, but most of these thugs for hire could be bought more then once. Slater didn't like surprises and he was going to see that there wasn't going to be any.

Considering the big opening Chavik gave me a few postings ago, I simply couldn't resist the opportunity to step in. I'll be playing catch-up best I can for the most part, but hopefully everything should work out. So, here goes! I'll be beginning from 0900 hours on May 16th.

[rp]

May 16th, 3008

09:00 Hours

Muttering to himself repeatedly, Commodore Parias paced back and forth through the loading bay of the Sanctuary Storage Facility. The supply request he had recieved from Vice Admiral Chavik wasn't something he was going to refuse, as he had done enough screwing up his career in the past. But what precisely he was planning to do with a full load of power couplings, sensor arrays, various backup systems of many sorts, and basically enough resources to re-build a whole Battlecruiser from scratch was beyond him.

He sighed. Being on SSF wasn't too much of a hassle, the quarters were nice, and the crew of the Galatae (which had little relation to the similarly named Galcom variant) had easy access to whatever supplies were needed But his re-assignment to Balor fleet meant he wasn't at the front of the action anymore, just stuck tending to the piss-scared civvies piloting the freighters and hoping they didn't set off a Vagrant in their own cargo bays accidentally or something.

Ah well, may as well go and send the supplies up myself, not much to do down here anyways...

He was about to head for the freighter that was being loaded when his comm unit chirped.

"Parias here."

"Commodore, you're getting a priority-one transmission from the ever-so-mighty Insurgent-One."

"Excuse me a second Benten, the comm unit seems to be malfunctioning. I could've sworn I picked up some heavy sarcasm in that last transmission."

There was laughter on the other end. "Oh come off it Parias, you know how much I hate messages that I can't get access to. And Rattler's just too damn high and mighty. Put me in the high chair and I'd show him how you're SUPPOSED to run an Insurgency!"

Parias sighed again. Knowing Benten, she had probably already tried cracking the message open at least 30 times before letting him know. Judging from her words, she was unsuccessful.

"Benten, lets get one thing clear. Were Rattler to suddenly become psychotic-delusional and actually give you command of the fleets, I somehow doubt you would get rid of all of our problems by just rushing Galcom with every asset available. So quit dreaming about it, you're disturbing me. Rout that message down here to my quarters on the most secured channel possible. If not even you could hack it, it's probably something damn important. And speaking of that, if you keep trying to break into my transmissions, I'm seriously going to consider re-assigning you to a mining operation on Pluto. I knew you were listening last night."

"Aw come on boss..."

He cut the transmission before she could start moving into her "Ship security" tirade. Benten was one fanatical security officer, and also did one hell of a job at a communications post too. How she managed both jobs at once without spontaneously combusting was beyond him, but Parias was getting worried. She seemed to almost value the safety of the ship more than that of her Captain. The "last night" incident proved it. Nothing more annoying than talking to your distant family and being cut off mid-sentence after uttering the word "ship security"...

Dodging through the officers piling through the corridors to finish loading the requested cargo into the freighter, he slid into his quarters, sat down at his desk, and flipped on the screen.

Please enter security code to recieve P-1 transmission.

He obligingly typed it in, and waited for the message to decrypt.

Parias blinked. Not once, not twice, but three times exactly.

"A mistake. It must be. Somehow my name was put in where someone else's should have. Why the hell would I be included on a top-secret mission like this? I mean, granted, I'm 100% loyal to the Insurgents, but..."

The message vanished before he could review it again. He cursed loudly. Fortunately he had managed to memorize the important details in time, and scribbled them down on a small piece of paper. Well, "scrawled" would probably be the more appropriate word.

"Oh well, if someone screwed up, it's their problem, not mine. This could be an interesting chance to redeem myself.."

He activated his comm system. "Parias to Galatae. Lock-n-load everyone, I want the ship ready to roll by.... well, damn fast. As soon as I make this drop-off to Sygan station, we're moving. Time to pay a quick visit to one of my buddies to borrow a transport..."

He signed off and stood up. For the first time in months, a smile crossed his face.

Sheesh! Now that things have started.... time to catch up!!! biggrin.gif

Commercial break is over... now the continuation

[rp]

0741 hrs, 17th May, 3008

Freighter Korepus

...a high ranking Gammulan Assassin. He (Wold) froze for several seconds as his eye's tried to bug out of his head at this surprise. The mind became flooded with a dozen questions, most dominant being why was that assassin on this ship??

The gammulan's laughter snapped off as if a switch had been thrown. Looking conteptuously at the eyeball peaking at him from around the corner he responds in a very heavy, but understandable, english. "You, Human, are my entertainment, for a few hours anyway. The real target is someone by the name of Savage. Enjoy your last hours human!" With that, he snapped his face covering back down and trotted down a different corridor.

"OH CRAP!" slipped past Wold's lips as this news sent a chill down his back. Not that he was concerned about Savage. No, as far as he felt any dead lemming, especially a leader, was good for the Insurgency. Nope, what bothered him was the fact that somehow he had gotten between the two and that was BAD for breathing. Thinking back he remembered that Gammulan assassins were raised that way from the minute they were weened(or whatever they called it) from their mothers. And passing school was even uglier. A team of five would be sent out for a live hunt against another team of five and the team with any survivors graduated. The others given a nice burial for their efforts. Wold knew there was no way he could win a fight on the gams terms; therefore, time to even the playing field.

Bolting to the nearest maint. shop a few things were grabbed in a small, but now heavy bag. With the borrowed goodies he high-tails it back to the sanctuary, he hopes, of the cubical. Once in the cubical the rapid, but very careful work began.

Yanking the cover off the back of the palm id plate he begins the modifications. The high current relay is wired into the low voltage supply to the id plate. Next a high voltage shunt is placed between the heavy splicing wire and the relay input then covered with the spark arrester. Praying he got it right, he drags the other end of the thick splicing wire to the high votlage/high current bus line in the back wall. Using the live splicing joint, (used normally for emergency power repairs), the parasite cable becomes attached to the main bus power. There is now 25KWs of power sitting at the id plate. Now, the wait.

0900 hrs, 17 May 3008

Disconnecting the thermite, Wold quiries the mini-comp to see what it had dug up, and gets a minor surprise. The surprise would have been a lot greater if he hadn't already run into that assassin. The cargo in this tub had a fair amount of illigal items, but the majority of it looked like a warship resupply load. Further persuit into the captains private message area the warship turned out to be a gam hiding out around Pixan. Thinking about this for a few minutes, he makes up his mind about a solution to this supply train, assuming that he beats the killer.

Shrugging, he cleans out the space under the slab and moves the bedding under it. Grabbing the needler he lays down to wait it out, thinking of the wife he left back at Spectre. Somewhere in there he dozed off and dreams of a not so pleasent time drift into his mind. Dreams of being flayed open for bio-enhancment surgery, shots, and therapy. Since all this was medical experiments pain killers weren't allowed as they would skew the results. Unconscious was how he spent most of the time, when they would let him. Somehow he had kept the successes of the experiments from them until his escape. The experience had left him with a stronger bone structure and higher muscle efficiency. The muscle enhancements ment better endurance and faster reflexes. However, the horrors buried in the recesses of his mind had kept him from doing any real training that would take advantage of these hard earned tools.

1611 hrs

The sharp crack and hissing accompanied with a distinctly burning sour rubber smell suddenly filled the air. Wold abruptly waking and sitting up cracks his head on the low slab that nearly knocked him cold, but did chase the nightmares away. Eyes watering and adjusting to the light he gets to the door. Grabbing the shunt he disconnects the power to the id plate and is greeted with the thumping sound of something hitting the deck. Needler in left hand he pry's the dead door open and peeks through the slit, spotting the gammulan assassin on the floor. Taking no chances the needler coughs a few darts to the head of the gammulan. After searching the corps there's only two things that he decides to take: the camo suite and the social id badge from the collar. The rest, including the gam, got shoved out the air lock.

1800 hrs

The mess hall door swooshes open with Cmdr. Wold standing in the entry way. Greeting him was the aroma of sweet 'n sour chicken, though he seriously doubted that zelons would eat chicken. The ship's commander was sitting at the head of the table with 4 crewmemmbers on each side. At the sound of the door all heads had turned to see who was joining them. From the sudden blanching of the commanders face, Wold guessed that they didn't expect to see him standing there.

The look on his face kept the zelon's frozen in place as he approaced the ship's commander. Stopping 3 meters short of the table he addresses the group as a whole in a low, unemotional voice, "Your gammulan friend is out the air lock. You have 2 choices: Grab the neares escape pods and run, or die. BTW, the self-destruct sequence is disabled and starting now, you have 30 seconds to be off this ship or your blood will stain the decks." His answer was the immediate bolting of 9 zelons as they scrambled for the escape pods.

Moving to the bridge with his mini-comp, he begins the tedious task of transfering ownership of the vessel to his new assumed name of Gabriel as well as registering the vessel as the UCV-Nancy. Having done all this the auto-pilot is activated and the journey to Pixan Station continues.

1000 hrs, May 18 3008

Pixan Starstation, Bay 13

Stepping off the UCV-Nancy Gabriel instantly knows that his assumption was correct. He needed to make a name for himself in a hurry if he was going to get anywhere in this cesspool. Picking the roughest looking bar called the "Elbow Room" he shoves his way to the bar and spots the bar tender in an arguement with some patron at the other end. He interupts the discussion With a loud shout "BARTENDER, GET ME A COKE, NOW!" and gets the desired results.

The defening silence was amazing. Everyone was stunned at this unseeming order and turned to look at the idiot that had issued it. The bartender turned his beady-red eyes to Gabe and begins walking towards him with his physique displaying the rising anger. The bartender reaching the destination, the muscles bunching as he gets ready to pound the insufferable snot in front of him, get's interuppted by a ringing sound on the bar at his elbow. Glancing down the bartender stops cold as the significance of the badge registers. Gabriel wispers to him "Why don't you explain to the good patrons of this bar what that is?"

As the bartender obliges, Gabe turns and addresses the crowd himself. "He's right folks, gammulan assassin, and I earned it the hard way. My name is Gabriel and my vessel is the UCV-Nancy. She's in bay 13. My suggestion is that she be left alone. I suggest you all spread the word. Finally, the next 5 rounds are on me." The last is greeted with a very rowdy cheer and the word spread at light speed through the station.

Turning back to the bartender Gabe gets the last request in. "I need a personal meeting with station command, can you arrange that?"

"I believe so, let me contact them and see what can be done."

Gabe drinkning his coke and watching the bedlam around him waits for 15 before the bartender returns. The meeting is set for 1500 hrs.

1500 hrs, May 18 3008

Pixan Control Room

"You know that this is highly irregular?" questions the station commander. She is a tall, anarexic looking with jet black hair with large brown eyes, angular face and sallow cheecks. And NO humor.

"Absolutely irregular. But trust me, when I'm done you'll be satisfied that your time wasn't wasted." responds Gabe. "I'm going to be unavailable for an indeterminate amount of time and I need a safe haven for my ship." This brought a snort from all 3 Pixan leaders in the room at the concept of Pixan being a safe haven. "I'll also pay double docking fees for each day for tying up bay 13." Getting up Gabe gets to door before he is interupted.

"You interupted our day for that?? That could have been arranged over the computer!"

Turning, Gabe sees that she really is ticked. Grinning, he answers her, "No, there is one more thing. I don't think you want this announced though. The ship is rigged. If it is disconnected from this station, or someone besides me gets on board, or an airlock is so much as opened you can kiss it, and this station goodbye." With that information dropped on them Gabe turns and vanishes out the door.

2300 hrs. May 18, 3008

SS Vulture

Due to the secretive nature of things and the happenings in route Wold, aka Gabriel, decides to make use of the newly aquired camo-suit and makes his way on board the SS Vulture. Working his way through the ship he reaches the command deck at 2317 hrs. and is greeted by a strange sight. [/rp]

As his marine came back from engineering via the turbshaft, something struck Zeke as being odd.

"Jet, why are the turboshafts still operating?" Cmdr. Stone asked curiously while the marine waited to be called upon.

"Well, Sir, I anticipated that the reactor may shut at some point while we were unable to use the Solar Reactor and added a mini-reactor to each of the main turboshafts."

"What would I do without you Jet," Zeke complemented and added,"What did she have to say Marine?"

"She said she did not know what happened to the reactor but is working on getting both the solar and nuclear reactors going, SIR!" the marine exclaimed obediantly.

"Jet could you and if so how long would it take you to install one of those mini-reactors to a shuttle bay door?" Cmdr. Stone asked.

"Well, Sir, it is possible and it would take me approximately 3 hours if I started in 10 minutes." the Chief Science Officer calculated.

"Get to it, use anything you need." Zeke ordered and Jet saluted him before heading for the Turboshaft.

"Commander Stone?" Tobias LeBlanc, at the helm, called.

"Yes, what is it ensign?"

"I am not all that certain why we are pursuing these shuttles."

Tactical Officer Burke was smiling, as he allready knew the answer.

"If something is up at Orion, Savage is usually involved, and if he is on one of those shuttles he most likely brought Marines with him," Zeke explained then pinned on,"Jake, care to join me for a drink."

Jake knew what that phrase meant, besides the consumption of alchohol, so he followed Zeke into his quarters. They had things to discuss that the crew should know about just yet.

Master Gunnery Sgt. John S. Nimitz, better known as "Defcon" from his pilot training, was tired. "Let's see, " I thought, checking his list, "Supplies are loaded, wounded are offboard, dead have been sent to the mourge, and repairs are underway." The current ship I was assigned to, the GCV-Dauntless, had just come back into dock today. "How long were we gone," I thought, "let's see, only 3 months? Seems like 10 years." I had just gotten back into my quarters. "Lights on. Message check," I ordered. "You have 1 message from FC Savage." At that name, my head sprung up, my fatigue wiped out. "Display message." "Level 3 Security check required," the computer informed me. Level 3? I barely had clearance for that..I wonder what FC Savage wants from a Master Gunny Sgt. of the ISS.... "Password phrase: The Rising Sun. Authorisation: Golf-Hotel-Zulu-9-5," I hoped that was it anyway..."Security granted, displaying message, text only."

Pixan Star Station

Near SS Vulture

It was almost time for this meeting Somerset had been waiting 3 days to attend. He was actually beginning to wonder just who would show up besides Savage. Too many odd things had been going on lately, and in Somerset's line of work, odd was always forboding. When one worked in Intelligence, they got used to expecting the unexpected. However, that did not mean they had to like it. And Somerset most definitely did not like it.

Which is why he always took precautions. The Eagle for example. Very discreet, and not something people really paid attention to. Out of sight, out of mind, the old saying went. His non-issue sidearm was another one of his precautions on the seedy side of the Galaxy. Actually, it was an issue sidearm, from about 15 years ago. He just neglected to return it to stores when they phased in replacement sidearms. This was also useful, because a great number of civilians equipped themselves with this style weapon now.

But not the most useful thing of all. Eight years ago when he had taken command of the SIN Wing, it was obvious that his capture would be very bad for GalCom. He would know too much to begin with, and in recent years it had only grown worse. So there was a small failsafe device he carried. Not on his person, either.

The thing had been, and still was, about the most sophisticated piece of technology Somerset had ever seen. Less than a centimeter wide and thick, they had implanted this device under his skin. Normally it was configured to merely be a transponder so he could be easily located. However, with a little coaxing from a computer terminal, it could be employed as a communications transmitter/receiver, and a recorder. There was also the small thermite charge it carried, which he could trigger without the need of a computer.

But even that wasn't the most useful feature of the device. The most amazing thing about it was that no one could find it unless they took Somerset physically apart. Whoever had engineered it designed it to disguise itself as part of his muscle tissue. And no one could find an unusual power source if they tried. That was because Somerset himself was the power source. The device worked off the electricity produced by Somerset's body to perform its functions.

And if anyone did detect it, he could have the Eagle beam him out before they could grab him. No sense in letting your guard down, even if a FC had requested your presence. Especially here. A good number of these people could be Insurgents, pirates, mercs, and the other flotsam that composed the scum of the universe. It was merely that some of that scum rated a little higher than others.

The thought brought a cold smile to his face as he once more checked the charge on his weapon, and approached the gangway to the SS Vulture.

This had better be good..., he thought to himself.

Pixan Starbase

1730 hours

"Whew, I got lucky," was the thought in my mind as I docked my shuttle. As I was shutting my shuttle down I put on my kevlar vest, sidearm, and jacket. After leaving my shuttle and making sure it was locked, I looked around for a public information terminal...Ahh! There was one. As I approached it, keeping aware of my enviroment, I felt nothing but the usual feelings. I typed on it, "Location of SS Vulture," and recorded the information in my head. I grabbed a hardcopy of the station layout and headed out for a place to eat...

About 15 minutes later I was back in my shuttle, making myself completely ready for whatever was going to happen. I had made sure to "Accidently" leave my PDA in my quarters on the ISS station, however I always kept a backup which I never let anyone else know about. I pulled my duffel bag up and opened it. Inside was the usual things...but I reached to the bottom and pulled out electronics equipment and a wrist laser, which I had "aqquried" from the black market. I put it in my jacket, making sure that the extra charges were good. I put my electronics equipment in another pocket, made sure my kevlar and sidearm were ready, and put on my jacket. I spent another 5 minutes memorizing the layout and pulling out all the information I knew about that class of ships. Feeling ready, I headed out. As I was approaching, I saw another person, check his watch...or a weapon, and head torwards the SS Vulture. "Guess he's headed the same place I am," I thought to myself. As I approached the Vulture I felt a hand land on my left shoulder....

Lennon, Syrius

Pixan Star Station, home to the scum and rejects of the galaxy...

Rico stared at the bridge viewer seeing all and nothing at the same time. His thoughts were lost elsewhere. With in his soul, he was trying to resolve his actions over the past thirteen hours. He violated a covenant that he had held since graduating the academy. all on the word of a Gunnery Sergeant and his own sense of right v. wrong.

A virtual cesspool in dire need or maintenance,...

Pixan star station spun in its orbit above Lennon. In approximately ninety minutes, Gunney and the Rabbit would depart the Graf Spee for reasons unknown to him. That was at the core of his dilemma, that is what bothered Lt. Cmdr. Ron Rico Cuervo so much - aside from the total disregard for Galcom regulations that his actions showed that is.

...order,...

The Rabbit had recovered from the wounds he sustained during the breakout. Rico wasn't worried about the Rabbit's demeaner, just concerned what it all meant. The Rabbit's had been scheduled to meet the Grim Reaper, the judiciary proceedings were nothing but a formality at that point. At least that is the opinion that Rico held. For he too was scheduled to bear and bear witness for the prosecution.

...culture,...

Rico knew that most of the charges levied against the Rabbit's were trumped up. However, there was one charge that could not be mitigated - collaborating with the enemy, 2 counts. Not even the Rabbit's was that lucky.

...and anything else...

The journey to Lennon was uneventful despite the additional excitement of that strange transport near the Earth/Jupiter jump point. A totally unexpected and unexplained boon, that only heightened Rico's uncertainness and unease in his current soul-wrenching dilemma.

...that would...

The Graf Spee maintained its run silent stealth mode approximately 250000km from Pixan. The preflight preparations to the modified shuttle that the Gunney and the Rabbit's would use on the final leg of their journey to Pixan neared completion. In a few minutes he would notify the Gunney and the Rabbit's that it was time to go Pixie hunting.

...or could...

Something else occurred to Rico during his inward reflection. Only half of the normal crew of SEs, FEs, Medics, and Marines were aboard the Graf Spee when she launched from Galcom HQ. Something that was completely out of established Galcom policies and procedures, even for a shakedown cruise. Normally he would have caught such a blazon transgression and had it rectified before the launch - even it meant delaying the launch. However, his attention was focused elsewhere, getting the Rabbit's back into the Hat. The more he thought about it, the more he wondered that this was by design and not just a coincidence or accident.

...resemble civilization.

Rico also wondered what more the Gunney and the Rabbit had up their sleeve that he doesn't or may never know about. Rico began to doubt and regret the error of his ways.

Too much time on his hands...

To much time to think...

To much time to ponder...

To much time for guilt to creep in...

Too much time on his hands...

Station Security, Galactic Command Headquarters

Earth, Sol

The Chief of Station Security at Galcom HQ was livid. Someone or something had penetrated his security; damaged the station; and terrorized the personnel within. Needless to say he was not a happy camper. His desk was strewn with stacks of reports over this incident. Most were non-verifiable, whilst some needed further review and collaboration.

Something was missing, something simple, something probably right under is nose but he was to blind to see it. The time of the incident varies from report to report, from 0740 to 0745. The Chief wrote this off to differences in timekeeping - not all timepieces were synchronized in the station. The only other thing of significance - if there is such a thing - was the scheduled launch of the Graf Spee at 0730 from Docking Bay 13. Normally, Docking Bay 13, was used for additional storage space but was cleared out when the Graf Spee came limping in several months ago - something to do with superstitions the Chief had heard. Two Marines were found dead in a passageway but no other injuries were reported. Unless one would consider the hysterical ravings of the barrister, Jacob Meyers, in the station medical facilities to count. The Chief pondered this some before he started to search through the reports on his desk until he found what it was he was looking for.

"HA!," the yelped when he found it. He knew he was forgetting something simple. The Commander of the Graf Spee, the notorious Commander Gallion, Court-Martial was scheduled to begin sortly after the incident began. The Court-Martial was postponed until further notice due the security issues over the incident. A light went off in the Chief's head, he had found a missing piece of the puzzle.

"Where is Commander Galion," he said into his intercom.

"Unknown sir," came the reply, "he should be in his quarters."

"Has this been confirmed," said the Chief, as his ire starting to rise.

"No Sir," squeled the poor ensign.

"Well send a team down there to find out!" yelled the Chief, unable to contain his ire any longer, "and they better be quick about it or heads are going to roll!"

Probably starting with mine, the Chief thought to himself as he leaned back into his chair contemplating the ramifications of what he thought and knew in his gut the team would find - or not find.
