OK first chapter.

GCV Andromeda

Location: Gamulan border

2200:

The GCV Andromeda sat quietly in space, silently watching the surronding space monitoring and listening for anything unusall in the area. Along her starboard ships engineers equiped with jet packs and zero-g suits worked hard to repair the damage to her hull. On her bridge Commander James Smyth stood looking out the bredgeviewer at the surrounding space. He quietly pondered for a few minutes watching men is space suits float by the bridge and then turned quickly on his heal."Report!" he snapped turning to face his first officer.

The young man snapped to attention immedialty"Sir port engine damaged, PTA turrets 2 and 4 destroyed and lauch bay 2 inoperable. Engineering crews are working on the hull damage now estimated repair time 4 hours!"

"Thank you," replied Smyth he returned to his chair and let himself fall heavily into the Andromeda's commanders chair. Sighing he flicked his command console, browsing through the reports on his screen he called up a ship skematic and over layed the data from the damage reports flowing into his pad. The screen did not make him feel any better and he quickly turned off the Console. Again he rose from his seat and walked to the viewer and again he looked out, he was beating himself up inside, how could he let this happen, how could he let things get this bad.

Just as he finished his thoughts the radiation warning siren went off, Smyth immediatly activated the comms,"Engineering, what the HELL is going on?" the comm system crackled into life "Bridge, engineering here the coolant pipe to the reactor has blown, we have a radiation leak evacuation procedures started!"

Smyth sighed heavily as he slumped back into his chair "We are going to have to take the engine off line sir!" Smyth closed the line he did not need anymore bad news, he had all he could take.

"Very well." Smyth turned to his helmsman, "Make course for the planet we'll planetfall and look for a quiet place to start repairs.......Best speed........Get those engineers in here till we land"

"Sir we need supplies, we have been out here for a month and we need food, medicines and spare parts", the first officer was still nervous addressing his commander and it showed, he was bad at hidding it. "Very Well replied Smith try and make secure contact with some traders in the area see if they can help in any way! I'll be in medical." Smyth turned and left the bridge.

In the lift on the way to medbay he pondered there situation, they were sitting on the border of Gammulan space.......Badly damaged and almost out of supplies, he was still upset with himself for letting those two ships get the jump on the Andromeda, by the time she had responded the damage had been done and 60% of her major systems were inoperable. Deep in thought he did not notice the lift stop until the doors hissed open. He exited the lift and continued down the corridor.

UCV Balmung

Location: Orbiting Velari Starstation

22:04

The small bridge of the UCV Balmung was only occupied by two persons, Riga Gerdis and Aloia Valzin. Riga had just entered and sat down as he casually looked over the instruments.

'What's up Al?', Riga asked looking over her shoulder at the view of the station out the window.

'Nothing much. Some distorted messages but I could not make out what or who, so I ignored them. Weak signal. Either damaged or very far away.'

Riga just woke up and didn't want to be bothered, but his experience told him these were just the kind of messages that would earn him credits. He didn't like that part the most, for he felt that it was a kind of scavenging on the hurt or even the dead, but then... it meant hard cash.

'Still recieving those messages?'

'Yeah'

'Try to get a fix on them'

'Just a second', Aloia said, 'err, dunno about this one chief, it comes from somewhere near the Gammulan Border'.

'What?', Riga exclaimed?. 'Any signature?'.

'Well, I believe GCV, but I cannot be sure'.

He stroke his chin pondering over what he just heard and noisily started to walk around the bridge.

'What do you think Al?', he finally asked.

'Go for it', she said with a broad smile. She wasn't afraid of anyone, no need even ask such questions.

'Ok, call the crew and plot a course. Oh, and prepare for everything. Ask docking clearance and let's start shopping first. Any chance to contact these guys?'

'Sure as hell not', she grinned and continued to tap the keyboard.

'The routine would only take 2 hours, then they would head for the nearest jumppoint to... yeah, to what...?' he thought to himself, but then started to take the actions required for their trip.

Ok, short and inexperienced, but I'll grow into it

GCV-Eliminator

Velari(Polaris-2)

22:10

Cmdr Demolition Walked on to the bride and said "Report" to his First Officer.

His First officer imediately starts going through all the mundane of the day to day life of a Wing Commander. But, then he started talking about a message that was comming in very weak, it appeared to be form a vessel with a GCV designation, but that was about all they got out of it except that it was coming from some where near the Gammulan border. He decided since it was a Galcom vessel that he'd send a rescue part on the double. He signaled his Staff chief and had him take over command of the Wing while he was away. He then signaled Cmdr De'Witt and ordered him to ready his ship for a rescue mission. Then he contacted Cmdr Remo to let him know what was up and what actions he was taking.

Demolition had his ship under way in an hour and Cmdr De'Witt joined him in a planing room onboard the GCV-Eliminator to discuss what they're actions would be for all the possible stuations. While this was going he had his First Officer mobing the ship in the general direction of the signal, hopefully as we got closer to it we could get more of the message and get to the right place in time. Cmdr De'Witts ship was in Delta formation slightly to the right and back from Cmdr Demolitions sleek MK3.

As they got closer to the signal Cmdr Demolition pondered what was going on and he knew it was probably going to be quite the day....

GCV Andromeda

Location: Gamulan border

22:10

IC: Smith walked the length of the corridor his mind wandering, before he knew it he was standing at the door outside medbay, he paused for a second took a deep breath and then stepped inside.

Inside was a sorry scene, every bed was full and many other injuries were lying on sheets on the floor, Smyth approached one of the beds, a young engineer lay there his face burnt and his uniform torn, his head was bandaged and his eyes were closed, James hoped he was asleep. He closed his eyes and said a silent prayer.

The hand on his shoulder startled him he turned to see his chief medical officer Geraldine Meagher standing there, she smiled at him and took his arm leading him into her office. Once there she removed her blood stained lab coat and threw it into the laundry chute, she then slumped exhausted into her chair.

"Is it as bad as it looks?" James asked sitting in the chair by the door.

"Worse", she replied ,"I had to send the minor injures to their quarters and I'm using part of cargo bay 1 as an emergency triage centre." She paused for a second as she picked up a drink that was on her desk and took a sip,"Casualty list is not nice Commander, you want to hear it?"

"I can't get any more bad news today",James tried to lighten the mood but he could immediatly see it was not going to work, Geraldine was a brilliant doctor and surgeon and an extremely beautiful woman but she cared alot for the work she did, James sometimes wondered if she loved the work more than him but he shrugged that thought off for the moment.

"Well Commander, we have 5 dead marines, 3 dead engineers, I have lost over a third of my medical staff and your tactical officer is over there sedated with major burns to his upper body and two broken legs."

"On a good note however, our 'Guest' is resting well in his new quarters, the marines have him guarded well. He should recover well from his injuries"

James put his head in his hands and let out a pained moan, he had forgotten completely about the Gamulan solder in the brig. "I guess I better go see our GUEST then" He rose to leave,"How are you bearing up?"

"I'll be ok she replied with a wiry smile, just promise me we'll get these people home"

"Or I'll die trying", he replied with a wink as he left medical

GCV-Eliminator

Mission: Search and Rescue

22:20

"Sir, we are begining to catch bits and frases of the signal. Its coming from the GCV-Andromeda. We still don't know where they are or what there problems is, but we're getting a couple of pieces here and there as the message repeats itself."

"Get me as much ingo as you can on the GCV-Andromeda. I want to know who the commander is, what his rank is and what his last orders where. With this info, we should be able to narrow down the search area. Contact Cmdr Desolator and give him an update on our current situation, course, and what we've discovered."

"Yes, Sir"

"As soon as we get their location, make a course correction and get to them at top speed. I have a feeling the sooner we get there the better."

"Yes, Sir."

UCV Balmung

Location: Leaving Polaris 2

23:50

‘We’re set to go’ Aloia told Riga. ‘What course do I plot?’

‘Good question. You did not get a proper fix on that transmission so we’re kind of in the dark. I did see the GCV-Eliminator rush away at just about the same time we received that message. Bet you that we will not be far off if we follow her.’

Aloia puched in the coordinates and engaged the engines which caused the ship to tremble shortly.

The past two hours were well spent. They loaded medical supplies, nutripacks, repair items and a selection of weapons. An excursion to the Gammulan border never ever was a picknick, so better safe than sorry.

Usually the Gammulans were not aggressive towards traders, but the closer to they borders, the more aggressive they tended to get. He never been into Gammulan space before, and frankly he didn’t desire to do so either.

‘The signal is getting stronger, but it seems to be encrypted or at least very garbled’.

‘Hmm, how far still?’ Riga asked.

‘Well, hard to tell. Still can’t get a fix so I cannot really compute a distance. All I have is a heading’.

‘How about the Eliminator?’

‘Still on the same course. Seems to be heading for the source of the signal as well’.

‘Wonder if they are just reacting on a distress call, or if we’re about to be drawn into some secret mission that miserably went wrong.’ Riga thought.

[/RP]

Well, at least I'm on my way.

GCV Andromeda

23:55

James returned to the bridge after spending some time in the brig with the prisoner, he didn't like Gamulans, their cold piercing eyes like they were staring straight through you, made him shiver, even thinking about them now made him uncomfortable, and the fact that one of them was on his ship made him even more so.

As the doors to the bridge hissed closed behind him his first officer turned to meet him the young lootenant stood straight to attention and saluted him,"Sir we are approaching the planet!"

"Good," James replied "Coms cut that communication we probably have given away our position to much at this stage but I don't want anybody pinpointing our location to easily." he paused for a second and looked out the bridgeview at the view of the planet as it filled the view. He sat down and activated his Tacops display, The display defaulted to the local region CYRON VI, one jump short of Galcom space, so near yet with out a jump drive it may aswell be the middle of Gammulan space. James targeted the planet in the system and zoomed in looking for a good place to set down. Scanning the surface he found a good spot hidden in a valley big enough for the giant mass of the Andromeda to fit and with enough cover to stop them being spot from space.

He flicked off his display and raised his head,"New course! Planetfall setup 135 upon entry. Tactical launch a probe set it for silent running I want to know if anything enters the system." Pausing for a second he Turned to his helms-man,"OK Jones take her down......Gently shes been through enough today"

"Aye Sir!", came the response and the big ship's battered hull lowered itself slowly into the planets atmosphere.

Mission:Search and Rescue

"Sir, we got a locational lock on the GCV-Andromeda."

"Good, Set a course, Max speed."

"Aye Sir."

As the GCV-Eliminator shifted course, Demolition pulled up tacops. to have a look around. He noticed that the UCV-Balmung was following us and was altering course to follow us. He wondered if he wasn't being lead into a trap, but desposed of the thought quickly. He decided to make contact with the UCV-Balmung and see what was up. Maybe they had heard the message like me and where on there way to help.

"Coms get in contact with the UCV-Balmung and find out what she up to."

"Aye Sir"

UCV Balmung

Location: Following the GCV-Eliminator

23:57

'Eliminator, this is UCV-Balmung. How can we be of service' Riga asked. The Eliminator hailed them a minute ago. Clearly the Balmung was on their scope and they now wanted to know why we were following them.

'UCV-Balmung, this this is the GCV-Eliminator. Please state your destination and the reason you appear to be following us'. The metallic sounding voice never ceased to amuse Riga. In his head he always envisoned a small boy holding a huge microphone.

'We are responding to a transmission that appears to be a distress call and to which you seem to be heading as well, over'. Aloia looked up at him and he schrugged his shoulders.

A minute silence followed. They were probably mulling over his answer, trying to decide what to do next.

'Commander Demolition would like to meet you in person. Would you be willing to transport over to the Eliminator?'.

'What the hell for?' Riga asked as this was not standard procedure. On the other hand, it was a GalCom vessel. Should be safe...

'Never mind, I'll transport in a few minutes. Just give us some coordinates first'.

A few minutes later he was escorted to the commanders quarters onboard the GCV-Eliminator. One of the escorting ensigns halted him and pushed a door panel which opened the door.

'Welcome Riga, come in, we have some serious matters to discuss' the voice of commander Demolition sounded. As Riga stepped inside, the door silently closed behind him.

'Sit down, Riga. Want something to drink?' Commander Demolition casually asked.

'I'm sure you didn't invite me here just to have a drink commander'.

'You're right, let's talk business. First of all. What are your intentions when you discover the source to the transmission?'

Riga sensed that the commander knew more than he did, but he didn't want to let him have the advantage of knowing.

'We've responded to a distress call of a GalCom Craft near the Gammulan border' Riga bluffed.

He knew the heading of the signal, which was in the direction of the Gammulan border, but he didn't know the distance.

'Right, and you really want to go to the gammulan border in an unarmed transport?'. Demolition smiled, but also heard of Riga's reputation, so nothing suprised him.

'Looks are deceiving' Riga replied and looked commander Demolition straight into the eyes. 'Lets cut the crap, what's going on?'.

Riga always was very direct. For him it was the most successful of dealing with people, and also the fastest.

Commander Demolition regarded his for half a minute and made a decision.

'Ok, a few hours we received an garbled call from the GCV-Andromeda'. We do not even know whether it is a distress call and if so, how serious the situation is.

We need to find out what it's status is. In order to do that we need firepower, and possibly additional things like first aid kits, blankets and the like.'

Riga didn't expect openness like this. Normally these commanders gave away very little information.

'I carry everything you could possibly need, medication, food, even weapons in case you run out'. It was the equivalent of inviting yourself to the party, but as Riga saw it; a trader must be shameless...

[/RP]

Demolition. It's up to you what to do next.

BTW: I leave Velari at 23:50 and you hail me at 22:50. Can you hail me at 23:56?

Cmdr Demolition didn't like telling Riga as much as he did, but he could use the supplies so he thought he'd tell him some of what he knew so that, he'd cooperate. On the other hand he didn't relly have to tell him, he could have issued an ultimateum

"Help with supplies, or get off his station."

Demolition didn't do this cause he knew what it was like to be left in the dark and he didn't want Riga unprepared.

He Told him some of the Details but left out what was strictly classified by Galcom.

They talked for a few more minutes before coming to a deal. Then Riga left for his ship and Demolition returned to the bridge.

Riga's ship pulled along side the GCV-Eliminator and Demolition had the coordinates sent over to Riga so he knew where they where going.

GCV Andromeda

00:10

James sat in the command chair on the bridge as the Andromeda limped her way through the planets atmosphere, he could feel the tension on the bridge rise every second, the Andromeda was heavily damaged and everybody was awaiting the next system failure, so much so that when the alarm clackson sounded the bridge crew seemed almost relieved. “Bridge this is Engineer Folker, the coolant system to the engine has failed. I recommend putting this ship down in under about 5 minutes or she’s going to fall like a lead pigeon.”

“Understood, bridge out!” James turned his attention to his helmsman, “OK Jonese, get us on the ground as quick as possible!”

“Aye Sir,” came the reply and the giant ship nosed further down her descent ever accelerating.

“Sir we have multiple incoming contacts range 10 miles closing fast!” James’s heart sank he was hoping this wouldn’t happen but he was prepared if it did, he was glad he was now! “Very well, Launch all IC’s intercept orders and activate the PTA system.”

Andromeda’s IC contingent exploded from the great ships hull and screamed towards their target. Checking his Tacops display James watched as the Andromeda’s fighters engaged the attacking ships, within seconds three enemy fighters were falling leaving fiery trails as they fell to their deaths. As James watched however a fighter loosed a missile which shot straight past the defending fighters and straight for the great ship herself, “Brace for impact!” James shouted as the missile streaked in from the rear of the ship out of LOS of the PTA turrets and slammed, hard, into the starboard side of the ship. With the force of the explosion she listed to one side and her starboard engine gave out, with no shields to protect her the full force of the impact was felt especially in engineering where the explosion was felt most.

James struggled to lift himself from the deck, where he had been thrown by the force of the explosion, and staggered his way over to his helms man, “What’s the bad news Jonese?” he yelled trying to be heard over the noise on the bridge.

“Not good Sir, we’ve lost the starboard engine and the engine room seems to have taken the brunt of that hit she’s like piloting a lead brick, however, we are approaching the landing point now I’m pretty sure I can set her down, but it won’t be pretty!”

“She’s all yours,” replied James, “Do what you can.” He patted his helms man on the shoulder and fought his way back to his command chair and sat down, securing himself in with his restraints he looked around the bridge. Chaos reigned on the bridge, displays had blanked out, people where thrown across the deck and the overwhelming amount of chatter coming over the com system was producing nothing but an unrecognisable noise that filled the bridge.

As he watched people returned to their stations and organisation returned to the bridge, James activated the ship wide com system and address the crew, “This is the bridge all hands brace for emergency landing!”

The GCV Andromeda approached the planet surface, a fire raging from her starboard side. As she approached the surface control jets fired as the crew tried desperately to slow the great ships descent, skimming the surface for about 5 KM she then dived sharply down a canyon, As she reached the bottom of the canyon again the control jets fired as her great bulk contacted the ground. As she hit the ground her engine was cut and the reverse AB system was engaged to stop her however even with the system at full power it took almost 2KM for the ship to come to a complete halt.

As the GCV Andromeda sat silently, her starboard side a blaze her IC fighters returned streaking down the canyon they flew over the silent form of their mother-ship and then circled around for a second pass.

GCV andromeda

00:50

James slowly lifted himself off the bridge floor, his head hurt. He put his hand to his head and when he took it down it was covered in blood. Slowly and painfully he stood up and looked around. Around the bridge his crew were starting to recover most people were sprawled over consoles and lying prone on the deck, but they were all starting to stir and the normal operations of the bridge were starting again.

James returned to his chair and slumped heavily into it, glancing around he noticed the com light blinking activate the com he responded "Bridge, Smith here!"

"James are you ok? I have been trying to contact the bridge for the last 10 minutes!" It was Geraldine concerned about him as usuall."No Geraldine, I'm ok no major casualties to report on the bridge except ensign Jones who looks like he may have a broken arm."

"I'll get a medical team up there as soon as I can but the lifts are out of order so they are having to use the service tunnels to move about the ship." She replied a sound of calm starting to enter her voice.

"Good!" replied James, he stood up to look around but his legs gave out from under him, he fell to the deck the bridge spinning around him, the last thing he saw was his first officer running towards him as he blanked out and fell to the deck.

GMV Dark star

CRYON VI system

He walked the decks of the bridge absorbing what had happened so far, his mind concentrating on the days events he didn't even notice as the Dark Star emerged from the jump anamoly and entered the CRYON VI system.

"Sir we have arrived at the Galcom carriers last known co-ordinates!"

"Scan for ships in the area!" He looked out the bridgeviewer at the sprawling sea of black outside his bridge.

"There is no sign of the enemy ship, Sir", Turning he returned to his post and checked his tacops display. Sensor data was feed straight to his station as the massive Storm carrier searched for the Terran ship. It seemed the more he looked the less he saw, his anger grew the more he looked at the screen. He slammed his fist down on his console, his teeth gnashed together. Composing himself he looked up and stared at the bridgeviewer.

"Launch Probes send one out each of the Jump points from this system I WANT TO KNOW where they have gone!" he growled, " and cloak we'll wait here for probe telemetry."

He raised his strong frame from his post and retired to his quarters, inside he locked the door behind him and went over to the desk. He pulled a long neck bottle with green liquid out from a drawer and poured himself a drink. He sat down heavily in the chair and starting to drink from the glass.

Outside the huge Carrier launched three probes and then cloaked.

James groaned as he awoke, slowly his eyes focused on the room around him. His head throbbed and he put his hand to his head and felt a surgical seal on his head. As he looked around he realised he was in medical. Geraldine was standing at the other side of the room talking to a nurse she looked his way and, realising he was awake handed a report to the nurse and then crossed the room to him. She took his hand and placed her other hand on his forehead, "You gave us quite a scare commander. Luckly for you the medical team managed to get to the bridge in time." She pulled a small light from her breast pocket and shinned it into his eyes, he groaned in pain and tried to pull away,"Stay still!" She ran a couple more tests and then helped him sit up on the bed."Very well commander I am releasing you but take it easy please, if you get any headaches or dizzyness come back here immediatly"

"Understood!" replied James pulling himself upright his head was sore but at least he could walk,"better see what the damage is then!" He gave Geraldine a warm smile and left medbay.

GCV-Eliminator

01:13

The GCV-Eliminator was one Jumpgate from CRYON VI, the last know coordinates of the GCV-Andromeda. She was cloaked. Cmdr Demolition had just ordered the launch of a probe to go through to CRYON VI and see what was there. The sensers came back as nothing, though they noted a slight disturbance that could be a senser ghost. A probe has entered the sector his ship was in recently, but he had been cloaked before it showed up. He knew it had come from CRYON VI so there was a ship in there or had been in there recently. The probe was a Gamulan probe so he was sure the GCV-Andromeda was in or near CRYON VI, he had scanned all of his sector and found no traces of a batle or a ship. He was now waiting for the Wraith vesseles which should arrive any minute to go with him into CRYON VI. For now he was judging how to best take care of the probe without giving away his ships class or firepower. He signaled Cmdr De'Witt and they began talking about what to do. They decided to fire of one missile each and that would take care of the probe. This, however would alert the Gams about the pressence of ships in this sector. He had the ships with him prepare for an attack if it should come, he wasn't going to die today. That he was sure of. There was only one sencer ghost which means only one possible ship is in the sector. After he took out the ship he would have to find the GCV-Andromeda and make repair quickly before more Gams showed up to finish the Job.

"Explain what you mean!"

"A Gammulan Storm Carrier entered the system about 5 minutes ago, it launch three probes and then cloaked, I can only assume they are looking for us. Its marking match the ones of the carrier that attacked us earlier!"

"Guess they are trying to finish the job they started,"James replied,"Ok keep me posted, recall our fighters but get them ready to launch again quickly and deploy the marines on the surface, Smyth out"

Deactivating his com link James thumbed the control to engineering, the great doors hissed open and he walked in. James was greated by Cheif engineers mate John Sackson,"Commander!" the young engineer smiled extening his hand to shake Smyth's hand,"We don't see you down here to often......HAha!" Sackson laughed knowing that James was a regular visiter to engineering often even just to call down and talk to Roy Folker his chief engineer.

James laughed lightly at the young man,"Where's Faulker?" he enquired

"He's jsut been taken to medical with some bad burns."

"Will he be ok?"

"Should be with a little rest."

"Thats good to hear. Ok so if your in charge now whats the bad news?"

"I have engineers working on the Hull now should be able to do a patch job in about an hour, we have repairs underway to the shield system and weapons systems should be up and running in the next 20 minutes."

"That all sounds like good news I know you have some bad news what is it?" James queried with a wiry smile on his face.

"The bad news is the coolant system for the engine it needs replacing and we don't have a spare one on board. We also need some parts for the Hyperdrive and the transporter system is offline."

"Ok we'll have to live without the transporter for the moment see what you can do about the coolant system, I sent a request out for traders in the local area for some assist hopefully somebody will respond, however A Gam Carrier just showed up so that may cause some problems. See what you can do"

James patted the young engineer on the back and turned and left engineering.

GMV Darkstar

01:20

Cyron VI(cloaked)

Rising from his desk as he finished his drink he replaced the glass and returned to the bridge. "Report!"

"No activity in the local system sir, however one of our probes picked up a sensor ghost in a local system."

"I doubt the Galcom craft would still be able to cloak with the amount of damage she has taken, but perhaps she is scheduled to rendevous with another ship and thats what we are picking up. Keep the probe in that system and continue monitoring." The Gamulan commander smiled a evil smirk and sat down in his chair.

"Sir ships emerging from the jump anomoly!"

"RED ALERT!"

As he watched his tacops display a squadron of fighters emerged from the jump point leading deeper into Gamulan space, immediatly taking up formation they started to head for the next jump point. On the bridge he recognised the markings on the fighters and opened a com line.

"Attend commander Gamulan fighters this is the GMV Darkstar requesting ID"

The fighter squadron replied effeciently and quickly,"GMV Darkstar this is fighter group Gamma02 we have been ordered to assist you in your search for the Galcom vessel, please provide locational co-ordianates."

This angered him he did not need help to destroy the intruders he could handle them himself but he understood commands reasoning.

"Gamma02 this is Darkstar, we do not wish to reveal our location please proceed to the planet and try pickup location of enemy carrier, I am pretty sure she is still in this system. Darkstar OUT"

He did not allow the pilot reply, counting the numbers as the fighters moved towards the planet he counted 15 fighters mix of heavy and light fighters, so impressive firepower, command did not want this intrusion to go unpunished........
