What a load of shit.

"most gamers buy several games a month"

WOT? What crack are they on?

And whats this crap of platinum service? They say these costumers will have EQ staff avaliable to solve any of their issues on the spot. Sorta like VIP treatment. Id like to see what kind of treatment they get from their already completely incompetent service staff. Hah!

Best of all, these folks will have them avaliable to powerlevel their characters? Wow. Im sure thats the entire gaming experience.

EQ just became more equal than others. LOL

Duh! If it sounds anything close to ludicrous, and it's April 1st, try to click all the links and see if it says April Fools. Or wait until the next day and see if it boils over as a joke.

When GameFAQs turned into the all-XBox GameFAX site for a joke, they got tons of hate mail. And take Mac Hall, which turned into a "Digimon Porn" site for a day (not), I had some laughs. (Mac Hall wass claimed as the "official comic of digi-porn artists" by those artist, although Mac Hall had nothing to do with it. This was their way of getting back at them. ) And did you see ThinkGeek's April Fool's catalog? Hehe; they even had a Doll of Megan from The Screen Savers! (Yeah, I watch that show, too.)

Let me quote GameFAQs:

quote:

In case you couldn't figure it out...

...as a few people couldn't, the "GameFAX" front page for April 1st was an April Fool's Day joke. I assumed it was so outlandish that nobody could possibly believe it (especially once they actually started reading it), but after receiving flames, threats, and the like, I just thought I'd make it a bit more clear. It's not all bad, though. I'll be taking all of the e-mail addresses of people who actually believed the joke and selling them to some marketers, as apparently these folks will believe anything.

You guys did take it "hook, line, and Resnig". Even when it was "so outlandish that nobody could possibly believe it".

I'll be sure to make a mental note of this and put it "in your face" sometime later.

lol. Nova, over and out.

Well, $40, $60, or $98.95 a month for Everquest, I don't care. I just don't want SC to get any ideas (nor anyone else who sets the prices for MMOG) for that matter. I remember a time when new releases were $29.99 to $39.99 and then after Diablo 2 which was either $49.99 or $59.99 (can't remember) every damn new game that came out is at least $49.99. Now, since inflation is only about 3% a year, can someone explain to me why would games jump up by $20.00 all of a sudden? I will tell you why, because publishers (or whoever sets the prices) saw that people would pay that much if they hype the game up about 6 months to a year before release, then say nothing for about 2 months before release to let it all sink inn, and then right when it's about to come out they will advertise it like crazy, and then when it's out you are just thinking (I gotta get it no matter how much it costs) so people pay up $60 bucks and then after a week realize what piece of junk they got since they already beat the game *aghm* (max payne) *aghm*, and it's time for a trade in if not too late.

So, what it comes down to is, games should be priced accordingly. Junky, buggy as hell, non tested, or just plain non replayable games *aghm* (silent hunter II, WWII online, stronghold.....) *aghm* should be around 20 to 30, then the midrange games that are fun but not quite there 30 to 40 and only games of the year, or games that you would keep coming back to time after time can charge 40 to 60. Otherwise if it's a new release I don't even need to ask the price, I already know it's 49.99 + tax, no matter if it's junk or not. P....es me off.

PS, what's up with Microsofts Combat Flight Simulator 2? I went to EB this week and saw it for $49.99. I mean isn't it 2 years old now, isn't Combat Flight SIM 3 in the works and should be out this year? I mean, I have IL2 Sturmovik, and comparing that to Microsofts Combat Flight sim is like comparing gold and coper. I would still get just for fun, but NEVER would I get it for 50 bucks. Don't they want to make money>? I know nobody is buying it now, not for 50, not even for 40, but I am sure if they would drop it down to 20 some people would get it, I know I would. Who sets the prices? Bogles the mind.

That reminds me. I got Operation Flashpoint this week. Got it for $30, came home installed. OMG, it's damn awesome. My only regret is I didn't get it last year for $50 or however much it cost back then, so that the developer would get more money and know that his game was well worth it. Now compare that to other games that stay on the shelfs for a looooong, loooong time and not drop a penny. Operation Flashpoint should have stayed up and not droped a penny, not Silent Hunter II or Microsofts Com. Fligth sim.

Heh,

I've seen this 'game pricing' complaint come up a few times over the past year. I don't know what the fuss is about.

Where I live, new games have always been about 50$...since 1990 at the very least. Currently, new games are STILL 50$. I buy at EB. I buy at Walmart. I buy wherever I find what I want, and the prices are almost all universally the same. (Save for Sears, which is ALWAYS 10$ higher than anyone else).

I've seen no change in new game pricing in at least 12 years. I'm thinking it's actually even longer than that, but I honestly cannot recall what I paid for games pre 1990. (Though I still think even then it was around 50$ for a new release).

I'm thinking this: It's a regional thing. Some stores in certain areas may be jacking up prices for who knows what reason...(per capita income perhaps?).

Anyone else have any views on this?
