Guest
Almost got killed coming home from work tonight. Some a$$hole decided to park his tow truck (those that have a ramp to pick up vehicles) with half the rear end of the ramp sticking out halfway into the right lane of the road... with no lights or signalling whatsoever and just past the down-end of a small hill. My car (a 4 door sedan) was doing 60 along with traffic, being first in the line (had red light 50 meters before the small hill slope and i was in 'the lead') went over the hill and it was as the nose of my car went down (after passing the hill 'crest') that I saw the MF'ing truck parked. Hit the brakes so hard I think I mustve ripped the carpet. Car came to a screeching stop with the topmost part of the tow truck's ramp leg hovering above my car's engine. I just stared at the thing for what seemed an eternity. If I had hit, my car wouldve surely swung sideways into the other end of the ramp..not before decapitating me. I have driven cars with no ABS and I KNOW there is no way they wouldve stopped so fast. I got home and hugged my parents for making me buy the ABS model. For gawds sake, get ABS brakes. /preach off
Commander Elio Jason
here in FL idiot driving like that is common.
kschang
So there's no way you could have swerved to avoid that truck in the lane? If it's a hill, the most dangerous thing is someone driving like you, and plow into you while you're stopped.
Commander Elio Jason
on another note my message was also ment for the trucker not TAC.
Guest
No way to swerve, there was a car next to my left. And let me say again, this truck was not 'driving' in the 'lane'. That imbecile had PARKED the truck with the rear half of it (ramp) sticking sideways inside the rightmost lane of the road.
Cruis. In
i think i like abs too. my car does not have, but the police car does. and they are noticeably better to me. for one when driving on wet red, or slightly sprinkled road, when breaking i have no fear at all about skidding. but with my brakes just a little too sudden, not (skid pressure) and they want to skid. ive also applied emergency pressure to brakes on the police car in the past, and the wheels didn't lock... so i have to say i like abs. Guest MIKE113
I don't know why all new cars don't come with ABS. Aircraft(military) have had antiskid systems since the 50's. They are worth the extra price however, but should be standard IMO.
Kenada
i agree with Elio, driving in Florida sucks... Here in Lakeland, i dodge about 3-5 old people weekly.
Kevin Trotter
Why dodge em' in DeathRace 2000 that's an easy score. And the main reason we don't have ABS on every car..corporate greed. You have to pay to be safe. Year in year out the safest cars are the ones most people can't afford.
Bandus
Just another day on the highway in Florida, Tac. :-) I hate that kinda crap. ABS have saved my arse more than once down here. Folks insist on pulling out in front of me.

Tell me about it... and it always seems like they wait until you are almost there and the road is clear of traffic behind you.
