  1. Debate: a : the formal discussion of a motion before a deliberative body according to the rules of parliamentary procedure b : a regulated discussion of a proposition between two matched sides Don't trust me, Charles - check Webster.com. Essentially, all "debate" technically means is a "formal discussion". [ 05-22-2001: Message edited by: aramike ]

Explore, paramedic, Diplomat etc...] [ 05-21-2001: Message edited by: Herro YuY ] [ 05-21-2001: Message edited by: Herro YuY ] Just say "commander" for now. For one thing, even if there WAS an admiral rank out there for the Gams, you haven't earned it.
  3. quote: Admiral is for our RP, The independent way. We are talking here about the gam equivalent of a fleet or strategic commander.Huh? Admiral is an Insurgent rank.
  4. First, get rid of the rank Admiral. You're not an Admiral, and that is not a Gammulan rank. Use commander for now. Prefix should be UCV for now, as well.
  5. Heh, Steve, I see your point, and it is why I am on the fence. I believe that there IS a measure of global warming occuring - there IS a LOT of substantial evidence. However, with the limitation of our sciences, it is hard to say for sure. Regardless, conservation is hardly the way to change this. I doubt ANYONE can reverse the trends of 5 billion people - they better not try to reverse mine.
  6. Global warming is an ACCEPTED scientific problem. Here are the facts: The freezing point in the upper atmosphere is gaining altitude causing warming surface temperatures. Ice caps in alpine regions throughout the tropics and sub-tropics are melting at an incredible rate. The edge of the Qori Kalis glacier that flows off the Quelccaya ice cap high in the Peruvian Andes Mountains was retreating at a rate of 13 feet annually between 1963 and 1978. By 1995, that rate had grown to 99 feet each year. The freezing level in the Earth's atmosphere -- the height where the air temperature reaches 0 degrees C -- has been gaining altitude since 1970 at a rate of nearly 15 feet each year. This is not supposed to occur naturally. Ice cores taken from the Dunde ice cap in eastern Tibet have shown that the last 50 years were the warmest in recorded history. A similar ice core record from the Huascaran ice cap in Peru has shown a strong warming over the last 200 years. Increased snowfall over East Antarctica is indicative of warmer arctic temperatures which allows for the travel of vapor moisture to the region. ----- Sure, all this may simply be a result of climactic variation, but most scientists don't believe that as such variations occuring globally would be nearly impossible. Also, historically the earth should be undergoing a COOLING trend at this time - not a warming trend. Those are the facts. As I said, I am not an environmentalist in the least but I don't ignore HARD evidence just because it varies from my beliefs. Think: if global warming DIDN'T exist, why would governments be trashing BILLIONS of dollars in trying to rectify the problem? [ 05-21-2001: Message edited by: aramike ]
  7. quote: I know what he said, and I'm saying that it doesn't matter. Once again, America is going to run out of oil much sooner than the Arabs will. When that happens, all the money goes to the Middle East, and then some. The Bush administration is only delaying the inevitable. So? There are alternatives. In fact, I remember that in the 70's we had environmentalists telling us how irradiated we were going to be due to nuclear power - you know, 4 eyed frogs, kids with 3 legs, etc. Never happened. There ARE solutions. In fact, radioactive nuclear waste can be reused in generators. So, that simply leaves the non-radioactive waste to be disposed which is not too much different than a coffee cup from McDonalds. Yes, the US will always have a measure of dependency, BUT, we can become LESS dependant by utilizing all resources. Sure, the wells may dry up at some point, but then again, that is a long way off ANY things are becoming more fuel efficient with hybrids and fuel cell cars here and on the horizon.
  8. A couple of things that caught my eye out of boredom: quote: America is NEVER going to be self-sufficient on its own oil wells, it's geologically impossible. Even if every single oil well in America was being tapped, the nation would still have to import over 40 percent of its supply from other countries. Without that 40 percent, the economy grinds to a halt. Without 20 percent, the economy still grinds to a halt. Therefore, whether America is less dependant or not, it's still dependant.Menchise, I believe Jaguar said "LESS dependent" (emphasis added). Of course the US will still be dependant. But more money would remain in our economy. That, my friend, is a GOOD thing. quote: Yes they are. Debate = argue = fight = attack.Dunno, Charles. The definition of debate is simply "a formal discussion". By the way, there IS evidence for global warming, actually. TONS of it (I'm not an environmentalist, by the way - I just don't ignore facts that are against my beliefs). The thing is, conservation ain't gonna do a damned thing to fix it so a different method of repair must be devised (there are currently some working theories on what to do). quote: Because the supply of Uranium is much smaller than the supply of oilSure, but the CONSUMPTION of Uranium is practically non-existant when compared to oil.
  9. I agree with Gallion. Perhaps the Insurgents should just use the one logo? Edit: I have to be honest, here - I liked the old Galcom logo better - the text on the new one seems a little too "cartoony". [ 05-18-2001: Message edited by: aramike ]
  10. quote: Okay, my first guess is, um, Tom Cruise?Heh, I don't know whether to be flattered or insulted.
  11. I'll let you all figure out who this picture is of...
  12. Good move by Bush. Think: If the Chinese get serious about taking Taiwan, it would be difficult to stop them. Further, they may end up with a couple of SERIOUSLY advanced Destroyers for their reverse-engineering pleasure. By sending slightly obsolete ships, the US is not taking that serious risk AND we are sending a message of warning to China.
  13. Hehe, I've got to have cable. ESPN ... ESPN2 ... Fox Sports Net ... NBA on TNT ... NBA on TBS ... OK, fine, I'm a sports fanatic. So shoot me. Besides, the Brewers are doing great, the Bucks DID great in the regular season, kinda up against the wall right now, but still... Also, gotta watch the Green Bay Packers. Yes, I'm off-topic. Oh well. [ 05-17-2001: Message edited by: aramike ]

  17. Great site! quote: I have Netscape 4.7, and don't think of changing.Hehe, being a professional Web designer, I should worn you - your Netscape 4.7 won't be very good for very long. Most in my biz are TOTALLY abandoning the development for those Netscape 4 browsers. Heck, even NETSCAPE abandoned their version 4 browsers.
  18. Uhm, calm down, Soback.
  19. Used for GCO? I heard that it was a totally different project that's he's doing. Anyway, I thought Serious Sam (the game itself) sucked. The engine was great, the game seemed uninspired.
