Intruders+Interceptors=My Question
Tyrn replied to Commander Zeke Stone's topic in Battlecruiser Series
Also, don't send too many marines on search and destroy or they'll all gather round the interceptor even though only one and sometimes two marines can search an interceptor. The problen then is that should the marine at the front be injured, he'll have a devil of a time shoving past the other marines before the intruder finishes him off. ------------------ Randolf Carter Commander - UCV Kadath -

I had just given all shuttles waypoint orders to collect drones from the surface when a warmonger decided to show me how quickly ramming another ship can cause a reactor breach. After cleaning up the warmonger, shuttle 1 launched and headed for the surface. I countered the orders and issued tow BC orderts to the shuttle. As soon as the shuttle engaged its tractor beam, it issued a RTB to the nearest Ter/Mil starstation. I jumped over to the shuttle and sure enough, my BC no longer showed anywhere on the scope. Jumping back to the BC, I could see the shuttle with no problem. The same thing happened when I issued cargosweep orders to a shuttle and then issued a tow BC order. If you're going to tow your BC, make sure your shuttle does not have any collect orders or it will desert you. I would rate this right up with forgetting to shut down launch control when a bunch of freeloading hitch-hikers beam aboard to joy ride in one of the shuttles except that I can still switch to an AWOL shuttle's computer console and issue "Evac" orders remotely. That's the last time I hire cut rate Flight Engineers, I can guarantee that! ------------------ Randolf Carter Commander - UCV Kadath

quote:Originally posted by milod: Actually, some planetologists feel that Pluto and it's "moon" Charon are both nothing more than extra large Kuiper Belt Objects. So not only isn't there a tenth planet, some would say there isn't even a ninth! You are refering, of course to the IAU's question of whether Pluto is a Major planet, a Minor planet or should be numbered as a Trans-Neptunian object. see this article. Common consensus leans toward making Ceres the boundary between planets and non-planets. Also see this which contains a quote from Brian Marsden, head of IAU's Minor Planet Center, which is: quote:There is no plan to 'downgrade' or 'demote' Pluto. It will stay as a planet. ------------------ Randolf Carter Commander - UCV Kadath

This article mentions the "planet" you're remembering. The whole thing was down graded to a Kupier Belt Object, if memory serves, and so much less news worthy. Thanks for all the "congrats." quote:Originally posted by Blades: Hmm. I've been way too slack recently. 19 hours to get to end game. Hmm. Looks like I got some work to do. I'll let you know when I beat it. I should probably point out that I reached end game in 19 game hours. RL hours are unnumbered BTW, I decided to do a little digging regarding how "fast" I finished the game. If you let each mission (including lag time to the start of the next mission) run its course, ACM takes 21 hrs 18 min to complete. If you always request new orders the second your current mission ends, you can do it in 17 hrs 23 min (all times are in-game hours not RL hours). Average play would be about... 19 hours 20 min and I finished in 19 hrs 41 min. So much for a true speed record I am really going to have to whip my crew into shape! ------------------ Randolf Carter Commander - UCV Kadath

quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: LOL!! Actually, if you just put him in a shuttle and then launch the shuttle and have the shuttle hold position or escort the BC, you can sort out the problem and then let him back in again. He is treated as cargo btw, so you won't see him listed in the crew section. I found a way around his persnickety attitude, I assigned one engineer to armor and the rest quickly finished up the remaining repairs. JAC then had nothing to do but work on the armor and we were back in ship shape before anything serious came through the jump point. ------------------ Randolf Carter Commander - UCV Kadath

JAC playing dumb quote:Check his requirements as well as those for the crew as per the artifacts.pdf file. And as for that ride, heh, since you are in Gammulan territory, there are quite a few uninhabited moons there. I figure that's the problem as well, it's just that it has this fetish only with the hull armor. Anything else my engineers can repair manually. It's just a wee bit scary to be in Gammula/Gammula with 52% hull armor and an obsessed cyborg running loose. ------------------ Randolf Carter Commander - UCV Kadath [This message has been edited by Tyrn (edited 08-16-2000).]

To aramike01 and Whisper, thank you. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: heh, this suspiciously looks like you are in the service in real life? We have quite a few of your buddies here actually. I think my experience is a good testament to that statement. quote:As for those stats, impressive. As for the crew AI, I'd suggest you leave them onstation until they are about to drop with exhaustion At least now we know that the crew AI requirements for the artifacts, work, which explains why most of them don't work. heh, doesn't look like you've had a free ride. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: Yep, Gallion is right again, regarding the state table. He used a non-programming term, stats. I was just hoping that there was some "inside" utility to produce them instead of my taking notes. See following post for some eye poppers! quote: And btw, check the Version Control file and search for Fleet. This should take you to the Fleet C&C section. There you will see that even if you get Fleet C&C, if your ship and crew don't meet with certain criteria, it won't work. That's what has me completely confused! The first mission that SC Reines comes aboard is in TOD1 M4/5 and Fleet C&C worked just great (didn't use it though silly newbie!) after that I never heard beep one of the Fleet C&C when SC Reines was aboard. I just didn't bother looking him up for the last run to the ends of the universe. quote: And I really think you should go over to Obsidia and grab the HSD artifact from the UCV-Monolok. Sent a shuttle to do just that after I delivered DIP1 to Majoras. I was taught to read intel reports very carefully The problem is that due to my coddling the crew, they can only get 7 of the ten items to function and two only partially. HSD, ENM, TCMD are completely useless at this stage. JAC and the CO only work partially. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: OK, I see whats going on now. I was going by the printed 2.08 manual, not the online version. Sorry about that, I didn't think to check the online manual because I think the UK pages match the online version, but the Australian one I'm looking at, doesn't (don't ask). Actually, that is excatly what I had hoped your reply would be. Aren't multiple versions just a lovely fun thing? quote: Eitherway, if you do get the other artifacts, don't be surprised if they don't work. btw, I noticed you only have 5 of the artifacts and you are on TOD4. You should have gotten 8 by now. And don't tell me you've be flying clean, clear across the galaxy on raw power, without the HSD artifact! I have all ten now as I have just captured and destroyed both Paxir and Gammula (note that the mission objective says all Gammulan stations must be destroyed which is why I first captured (most of) them and then finished them off to ensure completion of the mission). The crew on Gammula were quite anxious to point me in the right direction as to the location of the RANDOM Device. I was only listing those artifacts that appeared to be functioning. Speaking of that, JAC refuses to repair my armor and also refuses to allow my engineers anywhere near that repair station. It's about to go on an extended shuttle ride. Actually, I have been motoring around without the assistance of either my HSD or ENM. Awful drudgery to skip from system to system that way but it helped me refine my battle strategies as well. quote: And yes, if you rotate them too frequently, you are killing their experience rating because they don't learn jack if they're on their room playing cards (and you wonder why a pair of intruders can run rings around a bunch of marines any given Sunday) Ah me, here I thought that I was doing them a favor! quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: Wow, thats pretty impressive!! I see you are a serious player indeed. In the other thread, I thought you actually cheated to get those artifacts (I just played it safe by not flat out saying it ). Thank you and kudos to you for the great game. I wanted to rush through to see what all the goodies do and as I mentioned in the other thread am fearful that doing so is what caused my AI problems but that's the other thread. quote:If you're as soon as you seem to be, you should be in my beta team. I doubt that any of those fairies actually go this far in ACM in such as short time (well maybe Pandora did). I would be interested in your save game file when you have finished ACM and located all artifacts. Will do. This has been a curious game and I don't think it's quite "normal." SC Raines only gave me fleet CC once even though he boarded my ship multiple times. As such I didn't even bother locating him for TOD4 and now I fear that I may have some minor difficulties surviving the encouters with Paxir and Gammula stations. The others were easy enough but a well placed cloaked ship has caused me some major reactor problems. quote: The first time you actually use RANDOM, you'll get that feeling of guilt. Just wait. btw, what is your current rank, EP rating, medals earned, finances etc? It would be really cool if you posted a state table here, of all these values, as well as the values for your crew, once you finish this last ACM mission. OK, going to show some ignorance here: State table, is there a utility to create such a creature; if not, is there a standard format for such things? ------------------ Randolf Carter Commander - UCV Kadath [This message has been edited by Tyrn (edited 08-15-2000).]

Before this all gets out of hand, let me ask this: What have I done wrong to cause my crew's average AI to be right around 28 during TOD4? I allow each crew member to reach FF 25 and then send them off duty to take a nap, snack, whatever. They can then return to duty when they are rested up or if the situation requires their presence. All other subordinate personnel are rotated either to the medibay (flight engineers and marines) or to off duty status (pilots, sys. engineers, medics, guests) when the group reaches an average FF of 11. Could it be this rotation that is actually causing my AI woes? ------------------ Randolf Carter Commander - UCV Kadath

The original message was far too long and was far too defensive. No cheats. I would have used the playmod file to boost AI were I cheating to gain the artifacts. I guess it's a novelty to reach this stage of the game and have such low AI levels. I don't want to be a novelty. I used the 4th edition of the manual for all details I listed. I just reloaded the docs from the website and page 106 deals with MediBay, not Jo Lanix. Jo Lanix is detailed on pages 121, 122. My earlier post doesn't state that the library is mentioned on page 122 but on page 125. quote:from manual pg 125 LIBRARY Personnel will occasionally visit this area to increase AI. I admit that I missed the correlation between pages 121, 122 and the appendix requirements but the game does not hold to this model. Jo's sitting at 25 in my game and yet the following function (thankfully): TAS KR PAD JAC CO According to the manual none of the artifacts should work at all because Jo isn't smart enough to analyze any of them. ------------------ Randolf Carter Commander - UCV Kadath [This message has been edited by Tyrn (edited 08-15-2000).]

quote: Charles Lindsey asked: What's your current game time (new thread? )? If you've taken acm that far you are a better man than me. Quick background: The Falcon is now in Tyrinis/Gammula en route to LV-115 to destroy the last two operational Gammulan star stations: Parix (LV-115) and the seat of the evil empire itself, Gammula station (Gamma 2). The valiant crew of the Falcon have located and secured every known artifact except the RANDOM Device itself which we suspect to be located in LV-115 or Gamma 2. We have reached this point 19 hours after we received our initial commision on 4-4-3000 at 17:00 hours (current time is 4-5-3000 12:00 hours). Here's our questions: How long has it taken others to reach this point in the ACM missions (TOD 4 Mission 1/1)? Have any of you managed to use the TCMD or similar artifact that requires certain AI levels during the TOD missions? ------------------ Randolf Carter Commander - UCV Kadath [This message has been edited by Tyrn (edited 08-15-2000).]

quote:Originally posted by Charles Lindsey: Yes sir, you could use the "send them off duty and then repair at Galcom" solution. (Galcom repairs take major amounts of game time.) I don't use that as a shortcut though. I consider it a cheat even though it is a valid solution in the game. I have occasionally used it when I was going to Galcom anyway. But I don't run to Galcom just to nick some game time (fair enough?). Thanks for the straight forward answer. I knew about the situation with GALCOM. I disagree about labeling this a cheat, but that's a bit of a personal dilema for each individual. There are inherent dangers in doing that. Some of the missions require that any lag time from the previous mission be used to move from point A to point B within the game universe. Giving the crew shore leave at any star station eats up that valuable time. quote:What's your current game time (new thread? )? If you've taken acm that far you are a better man than me. quote:Originally posted by Eclipse: I think ya need ta take it easy, this mindset is just gonna lead ta trouble. The mindset is a very simple one, I've seen people roasted alive here, especially those that point out the occasional mistake in this great software. I came in peace and met a potential brush off response (also known as a "Frequently Received Answer - FRA"). My point in showing the contradiction in the manual was not to belittle anyone but to simply illustrate that it was because I have read the manual that I asked my questions here. quote:AI takes TIME and alot of it to increase, and as near as I can tell, BC3K seems to have real 60 minute hours. So get used to things taking awhile to do, the AI will eventually get up there but in the meantime, wait and let your people take al the time they need. I realize that this is a realistic (as real as such a thing can be that is) simulation. I was simply hoping to find a way to boost my crew's AI levels so that the artifacts that could actually help me in the game would be of use during the TOD missions and not nearly 80 hours (at the present rate of AI increase) after I complete the TOD missions. Thanks to Charles Lindsey I have the answer to that question. ------------------ Randolf Carter Commander - UCV Kadath

quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: Reading the manual would be great start. Let me be blunt, I've read the manual enough (two times cover to cover including the appendices and numerous "look-up sessions") to have noticed the contradiction between Jo Lanix's AI descriptions on printed page 122 (Celestial Orb requires AI 50) and the description of the Celestial Orb in appendix C "Celestial Orb ... Required to operate: Nothing. As long as it is on the ship, it just works." I can also point out each instance of where AI is in any way discussed from the History of GALCOM to the brief mention of the library in section 19.2 of Personnel Operations on printed page 125. In short, is there any way for a player to encourage the crew to actually use the library, are there other methods of increasing the crew's AI levels or not? If not, then I will be unable to use even the ENM for almost another 80 game hours as Lanix has only increased from 19 to 25 in 19 game hours! ------------------ Randolf Carter Commander - UCV Kadath [This message has been edited by Tyrn (edited 08-14-2000).] [This message has been edited by Tyrn (edited 08-14-2000).]
