So I learned not to run out of gas! Support craft don't use Radine but are charged (think electric vehicle). Make sure that you keep an eye on your life support systems.
  2. quote:Originally posted by Greg Miller: On a related note, TaxCut worked so well this year, I don't know if I'd be willing to give Intuit another chance. If I do, I will be playing by ear again next year before I make my purchase. I won't and I've dumped all my other Intuit software as well. Other action I took as a result of this fiasco: Stopped recommending Intuit software. Refused to provide techinical support (side job) for any machine with installed Inuit software. Inuit lost 15 loyal customers as a result.
  3. quote:Originally posted by Cmdr Chavik: I will wish for one thing. If Derek is going to close the "extract drones from no matter where the drones are" loophole I hope he numbers them in the CVD and tacops so we can set up appropriate waypoints. Seconded.
  4. Been a while since I visited the GBS forum. Topic moved.
  5. quote:Originally posted by Cmdr Nova: Lol... I've been reading up on this thread for a while, but haven't had the time to say the following: I think it belongs in here, as this thread is MOD related. I'd move it if I could, but you know... Why would it go in the GBS forum when it's not GBS related?
  6. quote:Originally posted by Tac: So you dial those secure sites while browsing porn? (popups?) I want your job buddy! LOL, but there ain't no way I'm climbing behind my machine to disconnect my modem every time I surf, although I don't have to worry about the porn crap as that's not my cup o' tea. However, is someone claiming that there is some magical dialer that can run in a browser, pop-up or otherwise, window without my first installing it or otherwise granting it permission to run? If that is the case, then there is a bigger problem for computer security in general. If that is not the case, then I say that these bozos requested the service, let them pay for the service. On another note, I don't worry about pop-ups because I use Mozilla which allows me to block pop-ups automagically.
  7. quote:Originally posted by Tac: an even better question is: Why do those people have their telephone modem hooked to the computer when they have DSL/Cable? Because I have to dial-in to remote sites that cannot, for security reasons, be tied to the Internet.
  8. quote:Originally posted by Aphelion7: As for Tacops, the reason it is slow is because, well, its scanning an ENTIRE planet - with buildings, units etc etc all within view and ALL being processed SIMULTANEOUSLY, regardless of the portion that you are currently viewing. Do you have ANY idea how much processing is required for just that? From what I've read it looks like they mean they can look at Tacops and everything runs fine, the slowdowns only happen AFTER the buildings are destroyed,[/QB]
  9. quote:Originally posted by Captain Benneck: Sorry, have not been here in a little bit. I am having some trouble doing some stuff. I tried to mine Titan and lost 3 shuttles in two ways. Two crashed on the moon and one blew up when it came to dock with me after being chased by a Raven or something. I bought a shuttle in the spare parts section of Tradcom or whatever it is. It now takes up most of cargo bay one. I have been trying to get it so I can use it (launch it), but I have had no luck. How do I make a shuttle asset sitting in my cargo bay launchable?Do a forum search on replace fighter, the process is the same. quote: Speaking of which, is there anywhere that describes what each item does that is in tradcom? well the stuff in spare parts anyway. Download the manuals for B3CK: Manual Appendix I would highly recommend them both to every new commander. quote: Also I have had another problem, I had a fight and launched my fighters, when they docked their icons were red on my BRIDGEVIEWER (to me that says they are destroyed). It said they were perfectly fine in Tactical. I managed to send some system engineers (I think) to 'Ready Craft' and now they are a yellowy colour now. Anyway I can't launch the fighters, I can just turn their commlink on and off. What has happened to my fighters and what do I need to do? You've already done it...it takes time to prep a fighter. (You can check the time required to complete the prep as well as assigning flight engineers using the Tactical computers Launch subsystem. quote: Also is there a place which I can find descriptions of the orders I can give my crew? Is there a map of my ship anywhere so that I can plan where to put my marines if I am boarded? All crew orders are issued from the Tactical system and are very self-explanitory. Do you have any specific quetions? As to stationing your marines. There is no map, and you can only assign them to three locations: MediBay (unarmed), Shuttles and OTV's (armed or unarmed). Your best bet is to make sure they Prep for Combat and then assign them to search. Do a forum search on intruders for more tips. quote: Anyway, hope you guys sort out my game troubles here. This might sound somewhat harsh but as the forum description says quote:You have an extensive manual and appendix, as well as a bunch of BC vets. Don't misuse them by being complacent because you'll get burned to a fine crisp. But don't take this too personally, I just want to set the record straight. A little easy searching on your part would have answered most of your questions. While people around here are more than willing to help out, we're much happier to help when it's obvious that the person asking the question has put some effort into solving their own problems first. Now that that is out of the way.... Welcome to the forums and enjoy the power of commanding the center seat.
  10. Quick background for the images below: Cthulu (squid headed guy) and Hastur (the blob) were among the many Great Old Ones created/borrowed by HP Lovecraft to provide fodder for his writing in the early 1900's. The PC on the desk is an AI named Erwin and the fuzzy thing is a living dust ball known as DustPuppy. Erwin is constatly being stuffed into new bodies (iMacs, blenders, PDA's, etc.) (www.userfriendly.org)
  11. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: aha!! so thats how you do it. Took me nearly three years of casually looking for it to figure that out...I finally just opened a page in notepad and went on an anchor hunt. I use four pilots to man my fighters and assign the others to the shuttles (just to claim I'm even near being on topic)
  12. quote:Originally posted by Kalshion: it was deleted cause cheats are not supported SC has already explained the deletion but might I add that just because -cheat isn't supported doesn't mean that a post about it would be deleted out of hand. It does mean, however, Such posts are likely to be mostly ignored by most of the vets other than to remind the poster that cheats aren't supported That whining in such a thread about the lack of support for cheats would be a marvelous way to get a one way ticket to the airlock.
  13. Pardon me, I have to go and gouge out my eyes now just from all the images that came flushing through....
  14. quote:Originally posted by TheBunny: first u all push me out the airlock now u chop my head off ? next time u can boil me in hot water, and pour acid over me, and while your at it why not have a nice little bunny dinner... with mashed potatoes, and then burn my bones and throw the ashes into a volcano, then nuke the volcano and destroy that whole quarter of the earth. and...ummm...anyway... what were we talking about? Hasenpfeffer it is!
  15. You check the forums on your desktop while playing on the laptop....
  16. Until the game/forums manage to scare the n00bs out of them (I'm liking that phrase way too much) I'm enjoying reading all the entertaining things that they do.
  17. See that little blue arrow next to the word posted right above this line? That icon is the link to the related post, just right click and copy the link.
  18. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: quote:Originally posted by Tyrn: Hey, when a PTA slices through the canopy and intersects your chest, you have a way of expiring rather quickly even if nothing else is touched. LOL!! now, now, stop putting those kind of images in the poor n00b's brain. You're scaring him! Naw, it's part of the new training regs...it's called Scaring the n00bs out of them. [rp]Why's that cadet so jittery? Tyrn just scared the n00bs out of him! Why do they even let him near the cadets?[/rp]
  19. Make sure that when you park your asset, that you issue a halt order, otherwise the autopilot might just send you skidding across the landscape while you're gone.
  20. quote:Originally posted by Kalshion: will these children stop sending me SPAM!!!I bet that every one of the messages in question violate the sender's ISP's TOS. Don't try to get him banned, try to get his ISP to just shut the fools sending the spam down completely.
  21. quote:Originally posted by MythicalMino: OK, this all happened last nite, I just waited to post it this morning, so I could re-gather all my info (lots happened in that game). I was a commander of a carrier...launched from GALCOMHQ...so far, so good. I head over to the moon to do some mining practice...I get my team all set up....(which I later figured out that I don't have to send an officer to fly the shuttle...doh). Anyways...I get the shuttle down, the drone is launched...so far so good....the shuttle returns...good... All of a sudden...enemy ships show up...COOL...now I will get to fight while I am waiting for the drone to finish. I send out 3 fighters, sparing the 4th one for myself. (I actually had 8 fighters...is it possible to send out all 8?).Fighters don't need two pilots to be able to launch. You have eight pilots, just assign one to each fighter as its pilot. quote:While I am trying to figure out how to get my AE to the fighter...Use the Tactical computer to make crew assignments (you'll have to check the manual to figure out how to get there if you don't know already...can't give you all the answers on a silver platter you know.) quote:all of a sudden...I make planetfall with the moon. hmmmm...I spend the rest of the battle trying to get off the moon...I start to cuss...I start to hit the desk, kick the dog, throw the cat....then I have an idea...why not look at the key card? hmmm....PRESS "O"????? "It's that freakin' easy!!??" I shout. My wife laughs....yep, that easy. Now, the battle is over, but at least I am off the moon. Now for the cleanup. I order my fighters back to base...only one comes back (FC3)...the other 2 just sit out there....I also notice that several of my pilots are dead...in fact. Not sure how though...none of the FC's are destroyed...they took some damage...but not destroyed...and all but 3 of my pilots are killed...Hey, when a PTA slices through the canopy and intersects your chest, you have a way of expiring rather quickly even if nothing else is touched. quote:Anyways, after FC3 docks back with me, I head over to GALCOMHQ again to do some repairs (it is possible to do repairs away from being docked, right? couldn't really find a way to, but then again, I didn't spend too much time looking while not being docked). I figure out how to clone my dead pilots, I repair FC3...Look up Logistix Computer for doing repairs...yes, go look it up. quote:I check out TRADCOM...I see all of these minerals...don't know much about what they are used for...other than Plutonium and Radine (I think it is those two), so I buy some of those....so my ships engines and shields will function good. Is there anywhere where I can find out what all the other minerals do, and why I would want to buy them? I'll leave this one up to you to research. quote:Anyhow, I undock from GALCOMHQ...I head over to FC1 & 2, since they are not responding to my orders (their orders for some reason are "HALT"...I assume that the pilots on the inside are dead, since I had to clone all but 3 of my pilots). I send out a shuttle to tow them back...the shuttle gets there, I see the tractor beam...but then the shuttle simply sits there...not moving. I look it up in the manual...it says (as far as I can tell), that the shuttle will auto head back to the Carrier...ok...I wait...and wait....I start to mess around with the commands...somehow it makes it back to my Carrier...but then just sits out side...I try ordering the shuttle back to base, it drops the FC and lands inside...I could not for the life of my, get those FC back inside my Carrier....Shuttles go into wait for orders mode when they tractor another ship. Issue a return to base to your shuttle and it will haul those fighters back to you. Shuttles can't dock if they're towing something. If you want to get those fighters into your landing bay, try using your CC's tractor beam on them (remember that using your tractor beam LOWERS your shields so be sure to put them back up). quote:So, please forgive my NooBiness...and help.... This is one of the best games I have played (hell, it rivals...no, it beats Combat Flight Sim 2)....but it is steep...and I get kinda stuck while climbing the cliff... All of your questions are nicely answered by the manual, I recommend looking up TACTICAL and LOGISTIX in your own copy.
  22. If memory serves, you mean Charon. Charon was the ferryman of the dead in Greek mythology, taking people to the kingdom of Hades, god the dead. Pluto was the Roman name for Hades...does that help?

Do you think everyone has the time on their hands to go through all your threads for answer to a simple question, just to find out it hasn't been asked and have to post the question anyway?Hey, if it ain't worth your time to put in a little research BEFORE you ask a question, regardless of what it is; then it ain't worth my time to type out an answer that you were just too LAZY to find.
  24. quote:Originally posted by Raider/Pirate VLAD: Is this Asteroid avalable in ROAM cause ive been to Midae and I have seen nothing but the planet and jump points on my Navigation Computer. Lost in Midea space I would suggest seeing what's on the other side of each jump gate in the region.
