Thanks for expresing your opinion. This is the first literal endeavour I've ever embarked upon, but I've been dreaming up the storyline and content for years. I'm also contemplating writing a game based on this story, but am still undecided. hmmm, plausible FTl...possibly stumbling on some alien artifacts under the Mars Face or other location, maybe an alien crash site on Jupiter's Triton? The ship would have 4 (at least) monster Fusion reactors (yes, that's what I was thinking of) for a quick fill, they could send the shuttles and collect the hydrogen from the upper atmosphere of a gas giant. or maybe deuterium fusion, a couple glasses of water fueling this massive ship in regards to the rapid expansion of 2015-2030, as the human population grows, so does their manufacturing/research facilities, exponentially in fact, simply due to basic human greed. people need better products to get more money. This would require more factories and laboratories, which requires more space than Earth can provide, hence the terraforming breakthroughs. If real society takes the same turn as it does in my story, 'Mr. Billionaire' wouldn't have too much trouble keeping the construction a secret. He own's the company, so he could falsify the ore reports, send several shipments to the construction site, and charge pretty much anything he wants for the rest back at Earth, since he dominates the market and Earth is severely dependant on his services, they'll pay top dollar and not think twice about it. Since he funds the project out of his own pocket and gets the ore for free (only paying for the expenses of mining it) as everyone working on the ship are volunteers and there is no economy aboard the ship, he doesn't need to pay the crew. There are any number of ways he could spirit away the 300 000+ crew members in such a day and age. But they're only hiding the construction of the ship until the launch, where they're bound to be noticed by sight (radar invisible). But Mr Billionaire feels he must hide the project because people would either: try and take it from him, destroy it, corrupt his new society into that which he is fleeing. I feel it's important to mention at least some of the colonies we've made as that will give the reader some idea of how much human's have expanded. I also think I should explain why this very wealthy man would want to leave all that as it doesn't seem very logical.

I have an idea for a story I've been wanting to write for a while now. Tell me what you think. I'm trying to make the story as realistic as possible and much of the technology used in the main ship is actually possible, to some extent, today. But in 30 years, has been refined and enhanced. In 2030 or so, space travel is fully commercialized, several colonies have sprouted up on the moon and the mars terraforming project has begun. Humanity has depleted much of Earth's resources and raw materials are collected from the asteroid belt and various moons in our solar system. A wealthy businessman (the main character and owner of the most prominent mining corporation) is disgusted with the way society has developed, so he uses all his resources and begins construction of a huge ship. This ship (haven't thought of a name for it yet) is basically a huge flying city. Fully self sufficient. The main character gathers the best scientists and engineers he can find and anyone else who has grown tired of the way society has evolved. The construction of the ship takes about 8 years of dedicated labour. The ship is equipped with mining, refining, research, living, recreational, manufacturing and hydroponics facilities. They managed to keep the construction of the ship secret by constructing it away from common shipping lanes and cloaking it from radar using a plasma shield ( www.space.com for info on plasma shield technology ) The ship is armed with 8 rail guns (4 at each corner on top and bottom) and several missile tubes which are mainly used to destroy incoming asteroids that the ship is unable to avoid. The ship is built with a modular design which allows the people aboard to build addons to the vessel. It's driven by ion and plasma engine's with several, large nuclear reactors. The ship has a slow acceleration/deceleration due to its mass. It has two hangers and launch bays. Equipped with four shuttles, four mining craft and one experimental fighter (pathetic if you compare it with fighters in such games as freespace2 or starlancer). Current population after launch is 304 528, and it's currently capable of providing for 500 000 people without further upgrading. The main character has created a government aboard the ship, with the leader of each caste (science, manufacturing, military, hydroponics, etc) present to discuss any changes or suggestions. The main goal of this ship is to escape the spiraling human civilization and explore the universe. This ship is by no stretch of the imagination a combat ship, as there aren't enough guns on the ship to ward off smaller ships, the missiles have a high payload, but are slow, being designed to break apart large rocks in defence of the ship or for mining purposes. ********************************************* That's all I can remember at the moment. I'm open to any suggestions you all have to offer. [This message has been edited by Cmdr Hidama (edited 08-18-2000).]

heh, one final poke before I escape [rp] The ship rumbled violently, knocking Hidama and most of the bridge crew to the floor. Picking himself up, Hidama looked at Tacops waiting for a report. "Sir, there's a crazy interceptor pilot approaching via a blind spot in our PTA grid, co-pilot bailed and is en-route for Varan. The Interceptor is firing missiles and lasers, hull impacted, engineering reports life-support's operating at 20%. Due to our high losses, that will not cause us any problems, missile impact has put us in a slight spin--" Her report was inturrupted by a bright flash and loud explosion. "which allowed our PTA to lock on and...well, the fireworks were lovely weren't they sir?" Hidama nodded with a sly grin "Sir, we've reached the gate!" Easing back into his chair, all his energy gone, he gave the order he'd been yearning to give since engaging the facility on Varan: "Helm, take us out" The bridge was filled with a bright white light, when it cleared, the GCV-Kurai was greeted by a team of shuttlecraft and a small interceptor taskforce. "Sir, we're being hailed" ************************************** GCV-Kurai, This is Special Operations Leader, Brent Kawaja, prepare your crew for evacuation, we'll tow your ship back to base, the taskforce is proceding to Varan to destroy that facility. Glad you're alive ************************************** Glad we're alive...glad you got your ship back in...almost one piece. Hidama spoke over the PA, "everyone, procede to the airlocks, there are shuttle's waiting to take us to Centauri Station. Good job out there. Hidama, out" The relieved and tired commander looked around the bridge, then walked to the turbolift, stating to his officers "that means you too, get out of here" [rp] ------------------ Cmdr. was JUST playing Deus Ex then I come here and read this...imagine my surprise. Those docs can't possibly be real (for those of you who believe otherwise) since any organization operating under that level of secrecy would probably keep such documents in some facility several miles underground that requires many multiple body and cavity searches to either enter or leave (I sure would ) I'm just sitting back and waiting for either the government or the aliens themselves to make their presence known...my, what fun that would be, eh? ------------------ Cmdr. [rp] Hidama stared intently at the image of the minefield and the ships attempting to navigate it. Sweat rolling down his brow, he prayed silently that his plan would work. Several proximity explosions...the crab's lasers were lighting up the area, then it all stopped, the ships were turning around. "Are they giving up?" "No sir, they recieved a transmission just prior to turning around, looks like they're going after the probe" what a strange move...they're letting us get away, it's very unlikely, even at maximum burn that they'll get to the probe and back to us before we reach the gate, and if we escape, it doesn't matter if we lose the probe Suddenly and quite unexpectedly, the Comm's officer reported, "Sir, we're recieving a transmission from one of the shuttles." Hidama blinked, then blinked again. "Let's hear it!" "Yes, sir" He entered a few commands and the transmission began to play through a speaker in his chair. quote: "Remember me Cmdr. Hasaki? My orders have just been changed. If you are still in this region when I'm finished with my current orders, I will come after you." Hidama just stared at the speaker as it began to replay the message that voice sounds....familiar, who is that... "Well, hopefully we'll be out of here before I find out..." Hidama suddenly remembered what had struck him as strange in the first place as he punched a few buttons on the armrest and a stream of static and distorted signals broke the silence. "Kasugi...I was under the impression that communications were non-functional" The faint reply was quite difficult to understand, "Si*, I w#s ju#% w!r^@ng on th#$ sys%@m," A repetative, metallic, banging sound drowned her out, when her voice returned, it was much clearer, "That's better, finally got it back up sir, we have internal and external communications back up...but I had to tear apart several other systems to do it...and one of the interceptors, we weren't able to use them anyway." Things are starting to look up "Great job Kasugi!" Hidama turned to the comm's officer, "now you have something to do again! get any friendly ships on the horn and let them know we need assistance ASAP, a tow ship wouldn't hurt either but let them know there are hostiles in the area...tell em to bring a few Skyflash nukes for that facility as well. I also want that probe to begin moving away from those fighters, give em something to chase and buy us some time." [/rp] ok, any and all galcom ships should know about this now, I'll join the 'Jupiter Conflict' after I dock with Centauri starstation, also, I'm using the maps in the manual, if that station name is wrong, please let me know. ------------------ Cmdr. [rp] Commander Hidama stared at the far off Cronus jump point through the bridgeviewer. "How far are we?" "163824km sir, and we're traveling at 57km/s, it will take us approx. 8 hours to reach the gate" ...that's too long, more insurgents will be here before too long, gotta find a way to speed us up...THINK! the engines are just damaged...they still might work...they may destroy us in the process though, we have to try it "Activate the engines, prepare the afterburners, and tell Kasugi to hold them together with tape and glue if she has to!" we just need to make it through the gate, Centauri Starstation will see us, Galcom HQ should've recieved the probe's data by now, they should know... The ship began to rattle and shake as the sounds of the engines rumbled through the walls doesn't sound very good...but we have no other choice "Ok, ease her along slowly at first, start at one quarter and slide the thrust up, I don't want her to be upset with us" A quick 'Aye Sir' and the engine's started to groan as they were forced into action against their will, the ship began to pick up speed. "100 clicks...110...124...137...150...184...250-" "You're speeding up too fast, hold at this speed," Hidama turned to his row of Marine 'Runners' which replaced his failed comm system, "get down to Engineering and tell me how the engine's are holding up" The marine nodded and took off. "how long to the gate now?" "ETA 6 hours" Hidama glanced at his monitor and noticed the speed had increased slightly, 258 they're in quite a hurry, I'll let them have it, the engine's should be able to take it, don't want to take them too far... A short while later the runner returned, trying to catch his breath, "Kasugi says we...can go up....up to 500...that's all the strain the engines will take" "Alright, bring us to 500 and hold it there!" The ship accelerated once again Kara spun around, almost tumbling off her chair, "SIR! There are two Insurgent shuttles with interceptor escorts coming through the Nevuela jump point! Engaging Cloak! Sensors on passive" Shuttles? not quite what I expected, we can handle shuttles...the interceptors though, with no shields... "Status of the turrets?" "Fore and Aft are operational but don't have any power, we had to take them offline to engage the engines" A binary star system and we don't have enough solar power to arm the weapons... Hidama began to laugh, much to the surprise and bewilderment of the crew. "Can we siphon the power from the interceptor charge units to at least get off a couple shots?" "That's a question for Kasugi, sir" replied one of the marines. Hidama gave the marine a sideward glance, "So go ask her!" Startled, the marine entered the turbolift and the door closed. Hidama examined his display The Insurgents will intercept us in 10 minutes, we're 1 hour from the gate... "Take all power from the cloaking device and siphon it into the transporters," Hidama glanced at a fresh runner, "Organize a team and have all the mines brought up to the transporter room" It's a longshot, but it may work The marine grinned as he ran off to gather his team. 8 minutes later ok, mines are ready, Kasugi managed to jury rig the charger's, we got about 10 shots on each turret, not much, but better than nothing Hidama moved to the front of the bridge and spoke loudly, "Alright everyone, this is it! the last leg of this trip, then we get to rest. But you gotta admit, it was one hell of a patrol!" Moving back to his chair, the Commander began speaking his orders, "Every second, beam crab mine's in a random pattern in front of our pursuers, hopefully the mines will shoot em down for us, after the crab's are gone, begin beaming out leeches, space them so they don't detonate eachother" They're sending shuttle's so they're not that intent on destroying us...yet, seems's they're trying to protect their little secret base... "Have the computer encrypted and all the terminals outside the bridge and engineering locked out" There's no way in hell I'm going down without a fight! [/rp] Galcom should now be aware of the situation here. Wold, I'll let you take care of what happens to Schlynk and your team, I don't like calling hits. ------------------ Cmdr. The crippled Battlecruiser drifted away from Varan, trapped in a slow spin. A marine rushed onto the bridge and saluted sharply, "Sir, we have...another problem, Lanna Kasugi says our only source of power is the solar reactor, but this spin directs the panels away from the sun every 7 minutes, at it's lowest point, we barely have enough power to run life support" Hidama chuckled softly, resulting in quizzical stares from the few bridge crew that noticed, "of course, something else to make this trip more...memorable, thank you Marine, go tell Lanna I want someone on power management to activate working systems when power returns with each spin...and get me the status of our maneuvering thrusters, I want a team working on getting a shuttle into space as well...we can use the tractor beam to pull us out of that spin if we can't get the thrusters up." The marine nodded then ran back into the turbolift. "Lovely, we get to play in the dark from now on...Get a casualty report from Mallory, I need to know what I have to work with..." **1 hour later** --------------------------------- Hidama rubbed his eyes tiredly "This damn rotation is getting annoying." The commander's thoughts were inturrupted by the turbolift doors wooshing open and Jo Lanix, Research officer walked out and made his way around the debris on the bridge toward the captain's chair, "This communication failure is a pain, anyway, we lost a lot of people sir, Personal Quarters 1 is now a vaccum...there were 43 people in there, accounted crew is..." Jo looked around the bridge, counting the crew, "...56. We have marine teams searching for any more survivors and the remaining medics are having a hard time with casualties, some good news though, we can now launch shuttles...interceptors are another story, nothing we can do, the walls caved in on themselves and we need some heavy machinery to clear the rails. Maneuvering thrusters...no luck we ran out of materials to make the repairs, so Lanna is tearing apart anything we don't need for spare parts. Hidama quickly assimilated this new information, "Thanks Jo, get back to the medbay and help out there." Turning to his flight Officer, Tommy Brooks, Hidama spoke again, "Get a pilot into one of those shuttles and tractor us out of this spin...get him to drag us toward the pluto gate as fast as he can then get his ass back in here after sending an SOS, let inertia take care of the rest...Kara, where's our probe?" "Aye sir!" replied Tommy, obviously relieved that there was now something they could do. Kara turned from her battered station, "probe's finished its run over the planet, holding geosynchronous orbit over the facility." Hidama nodded slowly. "I guess all we can do is wait..." [/rp] what fun! =) ------------------ Cmdr. [rp] The Kurai raced away from the facility on Varan and had breached the upper atmosphere. Lights were flashing on control panels and klaxons were blaring. A new alarm sounded and the panicking Tacops officer reported, "Sir! I'm tracking 3 STO missiles inbound! We'll never survive this! Our shields are too weak!" Hidama turned toward Tacops, "CALM DOWN!!! Everything's going to be okay! Remember your training! I need everyone focused if we're going to survive" The Commander began to think hastely to himself: 'what to do what to do?? ok, you've been in combat before, don't panic, the crew will freak if they see their commander panicing. Ok, possibilities, Interceptors? No time, EMD, slim chance but we'll go with it...can't maneuver this crate...if only I was back in my fighter...dammit! this is no time to be nostalgic! The PTA, that might work, gotta try something, we're out of time...' After a silent second Hidama came to a decision. "Activate the EMD, bring the ship about, let all the turrets have a crack at those missiles and pump every single watt of power into those shields!" The ship spun and all the turrets opened fire on the closest missile, firing wildly toward their target. "They're not hitting...WHY AREN'T THEY HITTING!" Hidama took a deep breath and tried to calm down. "The EMD sir, it's affecting the PTA's targeting systems" Hidama cursed under his breath. "Shut off the EMD!" With a flick of the switch, the PTA's suddenly became much more accurate, impact after impact, until the missile exploded with a brilliant flash which barely ended before the turrets had aquired the next missile. "Sir, the missiles are 4 clicks away, impact in 9 seconds!" The panic in her voice was apparant, but she kept herself steady. "Status on the shields?" "I managed to get them up to 64%, but that's the best I could do" Reported Kasugi, the Chief Engineer. "It'll have to do..." Hidama pressed a button on a nearby console, "all hands, BRACE FOR IMPACT!" There was a silent moment just before the first missile hit the shields. A moment which seemed to take forever, but all aboard the GCV Kurai were well aware of when it struck. The shields flickered out and a bulkhead was torn open from the explosion. The second missile was not far behind, its arrival announced by PTA fire, but it was out of their firing arc. A great hole opened up in the side of the hull, several crew members were pulled out into hard vaccum, fires and explosions errupted all about the ship as systems failed and overloaded. Hidama picked himself up from where the impact had thrown him. "Damage report!" Kasagi's distorted voice came over the commlink. "Whe- do -ou wan- me to beg-- sir? Shi--d gen-----r's fri-d, re--tor's of--ine, Mid turr-t's destr--ed. Engi--s are heav--y da--ged, Pow-r to th- ---nch bay is do-" The comlink suddenly went silent, cutting off Kasagi's report. Hidama cursed under his breath "Evacuate Deck 3 and all Sub-Decks, are the solar reactor's still functional? Good, rotate the ship to get maximum output, I want communications repaired and status on our cloaking device, we can't risk firing up the engines, work on repairing them. You," Hidama called over one of the bridge sentry marines, "Take these orders to Kasagi in engineering" The marine nodded as he hurried off. "I want a list of casualties as soon as you can, be ready to engage the cloaking device, that facility is bound to be calling reinforcements, cloak as soon as you see a ship enter the system" The Navigation Officer struck the console in frustration then turned toward the commander. "Sir, the engine's are dead, burners are offline, I have no directional control, we're drifting..." Hidama sighed in anger "this just keeps getting better and better...damned Insurgents...get those comm's up! we need some help here..." Hidama almost slapped himself as he was hit with a flash of inspiration. "Status on the probe launch systems?" A few seconds later, "fine sir" "Great, have a probe configured to beam data to GalCom HQ rather than us, program the probe to circle us several times, particularly the damaged areas then have it travel to the facility, that should let GalCom know what's going on" [/rp] ------------------ Cmdr. I am interested in the Special Operations Group, but it seems they're not active yet. In any event, I'd still require much more training, but that will be my ultimate goal. I'm sure I have the skills for it, I just need to get them into use in the game I think I'd like to join SIN, I enjoy using intelligence and wits in combat rather than running in and blowing everything up...but that's fun too thanks for the welcome all, I hope to be a valuable addition to Wraith ------------------ Commander Hidama Hasaki GCV Kurai ICQ # 28215391 (GMT -5)

Well, third post I've made. I'm new to the game but not to RPing, hope to be a major player before too long [rp] Hidama Hasaki, fresh out of the academy and just given command of the GCV Kurai, walked through the corridors of his new ship. The Battlecruiser had just been constructed and had a fresh, new smell. The new Commander made his way to the flight deck and stared at the fighters. His history as a fighter pilot was rough but exciting. Hidama's thoughts were inturrupted by a voice from his comlink. "Sir, we're recieving orders from Galcom HQ" 'My first mission...' Hidama thought to himself as he hurried to the bridge. "I'm on my way" The lights on the bridge and the sight of Earth through the bridgeviewer was an awesome sight indeed. Sitting in his chair Hidama made a motion to his Comm's Officer "the assignment?" "We're being assigned to patrol Alpha Centauri" "Patrol...." He spoke it dryly and all the excitment of his first mission died with that one word. "I suppose they've got to do something with their green commanders..." with a deep sigh Commander Hasaki began to give orders. "Nav, course to Alpha Centauri. Engineering, bring the hyperdrive online. Comm, signal our departure to HQ." Patrol duty...the most boring task in the fleet, even worse: Patrolling an area deep within friendly territory. What are the chances of finding anything here? The ship lurched as the hyperdrives kicked in and they screamed toward the Earth-Pluto wormhole en-route to Alpha Centauri Several hours later, the Kurai was in orbit around Varan. "Nothing on sensors? Hmmm, load a mining drone and order a shuttle to the surface, take a few marines and run some drills while they're down there. No sense in everyone being bored out of their minds. We'll come back for them in 6 hours. Set the way points for our patrol route...I'm taking a nap" (5 hours later) Hidama steps onto the bridge and everything is the same as he'd left it. "anything happen?" "not a thing sir" the commander sighed "as I expected...forget the rest of the route, nothing's out there, let's go pick up our team" "aye sir, jumping to Varan." The ship does a gut-wrenching lurch then Varan is glowing brightly through the viewer. "Give me a report of our resources conditions on the planet then send a communication to our team that we're here early" "I'm unable to locate the team or the ATV, Sir, the shuttle is 28km from the landing site and the drone is deactivated with a full load of minerals" "hmmm, where could that team be...status of the shuttle?" The Tacops Officer hits a few buttons and reports: "shuttle's engines are out, communications are blown, critical damage to hull...it looks like a multiple missile impact" "any life?" more key-tapping "no sir, I'm not getting anything within a 50km radius" Hidama leaned forward in his chair "well, this is interesting...organize another team aboard shuttle 2, load the atv and prepare for drop, pick up that drone while you're down there. Nav, prepare the cruiser for planetfall, we're going down there for a closer look, launch Interceptors 1 and 2, put 3 and 4 on standby and prep shuttle 3 for launch. all crew on alert and have the medbay ready to recieve any survivers...I don't trust those sensors, new systems almost always have glitches." A short while later the second team had landed at the crash site and the cruiser was running a search near the team's last known location. A marine's voice came over the comm, "Sir, the shuttle was attacked alright there are 3 bodies inside, no sign of the other 7 marines. We'll tractor the shuttle back to the Kurai, it looks like it can be repaired" "Roger, get back here, and pick up that drone. Tacops, you have anything? We still have a missing ATV" "I think I've got something....yes, I see...oh my god, there's a impact crater 12km East, I've got metallic signatures, a signal...the ATV's transponder. I don't see any life. I'm also picking up a small energy reading from a canyon 62km north of here" "Tell Shuttle 2 to check out the impact site, we're going to that canyon, raise our shields and charge the IOD and PTA." The order was confirmed and the Kurai went speeding toward the crater. "The power source seems to be located several kilometers underground....yes! I have it: 52.2N 12.8W" "Excellent, take us there. What's it look like? a facility? how big is it? who owns it?" "It looks like a small launch facility...ummmm.....Insurgent." "Those *******s-" "SIR! I'm reading 6 Heavy Gunships launching from the facility, they're on an intercept vector" The Kara seemed quite scared by the situation, understandable...I'm not the only one who's new here, the entire crew is green.Well, there's no time to get scared, we gotta handle this! "IC1 and 2, get to our position NOW! we have enemy engagement!" "Incoming missiles, sir!" "Engage the EMD Jammer and bring us about," Hidama motions to the gunner, "I hope you're a good shot. Decouple the IOD, fly right past and let 'em have it!" The ship rumbled as several missiles impacted the shields, but the Kurai just sped past, screaming right through the wing of Gunships, PTA and IOD lighting the horizon with laser fire. "Status?" "Shields at 23% 4 gunships destroyed, the other two are bugging out, our interceptors have arrived." "Order the interceptors to pursue the gunships. Hmmm, we should try and capture this facility...see what they were doing here. Launch Shuttle 3 and have 2 back them up. Their orders are to capture any Insurgent officers and report on the capabilities of that installation." "Hold on sir! I'm detecting a massive energy build up, looks like a nuclear reaction" "Lovely...issue a general RTB to our craft and get our asses OUT OF HERE!" "Roger" [/rp] sorry for the length, I tend to get carried away sometimes Also, sorry if there's any mistakes in it...I've only been playing BC3K for a few days now. There should be different formations for air and different ones for space (differences in combat environment due simply to land and atmospheric drag) and the mark of a perfect strategy is one that the enemy can NEVER know. Adaptable plans/formations/strategies that can change with each occurance, keep the enemy on their toes. Sure, it'd mean many times the training and practice, but it would lead to an undefeatable squadron in the end. Always try to make a strategy flexible. Just something to think about. ------------------ Commander Hidama Hasaki GCV Kurai ICQ # 28215391 (GMT -5)

Greetings honourable Wraith. Commander Hidama Hasaki of the GCV Kurai I am a new commander but an adept starpilot (Tachyon, Terminus, Starlancer, Freespace2) After many hours of deliberation I have come to the conclusion that Wraith Fleet fits my tastes and methods best. Not to mention I've reviewed many communications from Wraith members and they seem to have more going for them than anyone else Till later, fly swiftly among the stars! ------------------ Commander Hidama Hasaki GCV Kurai ICQ # 28215391 (GMT -5)
