  1. I just had a new computer, one that reaches the BCM requirements. Everything goes well... smooth... very happy... and < Screen goes blank, computer beep > Computer resets ($&!$%&"$!) Okay, it has been a week and a half that I've been using my computer, and it has been a week and half that I had those problems. Knowing quite a lot of thing about computer software and hardware I started my investigation... Here's my whole story: Computer: AMD K6-2 500mhz 3Dnow! Soyo SY-5SSM/5 chipset 530 motherboard /w ESS solo1 audiodrive /w 8mb "AGP" SiS 530 1x64mb SDRAM pc-133 52x CD-ROM drive Diamond Monster 3D overlay D3D-3Dfx video card 1.44 floppy 6.4 gig Western-digital HD Win98SE french Standard PS/2 optical mouse Standard PS/2 windows keyboard 14" NEC monitor 250w "Gold power" PSU I originally had Corel linux (I save 150$CAN by having linux intalled instead of Windows), but reformated and installed Win98, successfully. Since linux was intalled, I had to download the drivers from Soyo's website for the VDO and SND for Windows. At first, the video drivers didn't wanted to get loaded. Result: stuck in 640x480, 16 colors. As my friend reccommended, I deleted the drivers from the system panel. Windows reinstalled the drivers by itself and everything was ok, 1024x768, 32bits colors. After, the ESS solo-1 couldn't play play a sound without resetting after it has finished. That 72 minutes mp3 is great, but when it ends... Did the same thing. Strangely, it worked. But my problem was still there. It was (and is) happening much less often, but still happen. To that point, I only thought that it could be software related and SND-VDO related, but it seemed not. Later on, having downloaded an hardware monitor, I saw red. As the program monitors voltage levels (12v, 5v, 3.3v and CPU 2.2), the 12v, which the program states that the security level maximum is 12.6v, was going crazy at ranges from 12.65v to 12.85, sometimes reaching 13v. I know that voltage is critical for a computer. Ok, then two thing could be in cause: 1 - The bios has power-management problems; 2 - The PSU has a defectiveness. Also, the computer resets most often when the hard-drive is working a lot: getting out of games, installing BC3k patches... but I can play at quake II an entire afternoon (3Dfx/OpenGL... COOOLLL!!! ), and it only resets when I exit the game... inevitably. The computer will never reset left idle. Okay, then, you might think (or ask) "what do you want us to do?" What I need is an advice before I contact the store where I bought the computer. Am I right? Could it possibly be something else? Are you totally lost with my charabia? Boy, that French-english dictionnary really comes in handy... Thanks in advance. ------------------ Commander Epsilon 5 GCV - StalkerIV, Orion Starstation (CENTRIS) Deterrence Battle Group www.orionfleet.com 'This Far, No Farther!' 4. So I'll stick with a BC.mkIII. quote:What is it with you Insurgent's always draggin your feet into my place? Must I think that security is not very good? No. ------------------ Commander Epsilon 5 GCV - StalkerIV, Orion Starstation (CENTRIS) Deterrence Battle Group www.orionfleet.com 'This Far, No Farther!'
  5. This message is directed to the FC or any other competent high hierarchy personnel. How do I choose what asset I should use in a RP? And will I be able to keep it in MP? I don't like too much to have a BC, I want something less "common" I really like the Firestorm, but maybe it's too strong for a newbie like me. ------------------ Commander Epsilon 5 GCV - StalkerIV, Orion Starstation (CENTRIS) Deterrence Battle Group www.orionfleet.com 'This Far, No Farther!'

  8. Stealing cargo? I already knew that. I noticed that enemy ships will attack armed ships before attacked those who are unarmed (e.g. Shuttles). You don't know how many times I stole some cargo from a bunny ship right in the middle of a battle. Hehehe... I don't think Blades will care about that. Tricks about trading: At the start of the game: 1 - get people on a shuttle, load it with things you don't like. 2 - launch it, and let your bc standing there. 3 - Go to Genesis/Moon and sell your AD items, but not HT. 4 - Buy as much ATV-reactor as you can. 5 - Head back to Galcom HQ 4 - Sell anything that's not AD 6 - Load your shuttle with cloak repair kits and deflector arrays. 7 - Sell them at Genesis 8 - Continue with the ATV-reactor ... and continue like that to be rich and able to upgrade your ship to the max, or further. Don't use your BC for the operation! The hyperdrive is too slow to recharge and the radine use cost too much. If you have enough money are is heading for the credian quadrant, buy AD items from galcom (0% inflation/-10% specialty) and sell them at polaris-2 (MN specialty, 40% inflation/+10% non-specialty). This is my #1 trading route, exept for the Lennen/sirius raiders, but armed as you are, that not a problem if you just pass by. ------------------ Commander Epsilon 5 GCV - StalkerIV, Orion Starstation (CENTRIS) Deterrence Battle Group www.orionfleet.com 'This Far, No Farther!'

  11. About the mines, I have the same problem as Wold. I thought that sending my interceptors minesweeping would increase their skills and AI, but I lost two of them. But the rest of the time, mine are, for me, space decorations. TIPS (debris field): 1- Stay in field, or the cargo pods will go out of your scanner range (and I mean where you're looking at) 2- When the debris field is empty, do not wait and SAVE your game. It's stupid, but the cargo pods get regenerated after you get back in the game 95% of the time. WARNING (if ever you need that one): Before selling your items, whatch if the station is LEGAL or ILLEGAL, and check if you have ILLEGAL items. Those damn violations! ------------------ Commander Epsilon 5 GCV - StalkerIV, Orion Starstation (CENTRIS) Deterrence Battle Group www.orionfleet.com 'This Far, No Farther!'

  18. This is Commander Epsilon 5 reporting for duty, SIR! I hope my sig is alright. Checked on some topics of Orion fleet forum and could find the official Deterrence Battle Group motto. 48 hours, It said... Long live the Orion fleet! And shall Insurgents to be defeated! I think that ends up this tread (regarding Akira's comment), or maybe some will want to greet me here... whatever... Testing... don't hit me... yet... ------------------ Commander Epsilon 5 GCV - StalkerIV, Orion Starstation (CENTRIS) Deterrence Battle Group www.orion-hq.fsnet.co.uk what's that? Nothing anymore."
  19. bwahahaha.... hum... okay, IT'S TIME... Okay, Blades, here I come... I'll apply this evening for the Orion fleet as a commander with Deterrence being my favorite battle group. Now, school awaits... (ah! unfinished homeworks all over the room! ) I'll also try to digitalize one picture so the other guy (I forgot his name, I'll have to search for the tread) could give me the commander's uniform. ------------------ Commander Epsilon 5 UCV-StalkerIV Searching for its fleet "Hmmm... what's that? 20. Blades, I think you need people for the Deterrence battle group, heh? For now it's my 1rst choice, Tsunami is second. ERach time I think of Blades, I think about the guy in the movie by the same name (Blade)... Still, he looks pretty cool...

  24. Laval is a bridge away from montreal. Yeah, I plan on making my last decision nearly when BCM goes on the shelves. Hope Future shop will sell it, they tend not to sell game not made by big publishers. ------------------ Commander Epsilon 5 UCV-StalkerIV Searching for its fleet "Hmmm... what's that? 25. Hmm... let me check England-Canada currency... 1 £ = 2,2105 $CAN or 1 £ = 1,4643 $US That make a ~450$CAN / 300$US disk drive... wow. ------------------ Commander Epsilon 5 UCV-StalkerIV Searching for its fleet "Hmmm... what's that? Nothing anymore."
