The FPS aspect, my experiments and other crazy stuff
Epsilon 5 replied to R_wilco's topic in Battlecruiser Series
quote:One odd quirk in the programming I've pointed out before from my EF Marine career is this: when you hop on a building, enemy marines tend to forget about you until you're on the ground again. In fact, they will "camp" the building you're on until you jump off. They can't aim that high, as much as you can't aim that low. It's annoying -
quote:1. Pg 26 of the manual gives the color-coding for the SSR, indicating that red means the System has been destroyed and is inoperable. All of the ICONS in my SSR display are red even though the systems are functioning. They do cycle from Blue to Yellow to Red as the damaged system is repaired. Why am I confused?I know what you mean. A bright red is destroyed, sometimes it even flashes. Yellow is for damaged, but still working. Blue is for "under repair" When an item is has 0% damage and not under repairs, it becomes dark red... just to show its there. Don't worry, the difference between the bright and dark red is great enough. Yellow state systems may not be as effective as if they were undamaged, typical examples : lower energy output from the reactor, slower speed for engines, smaller and slower charging shields, etc... If an icon turns from blue to yellow, that means you weren't able to repair a system completely, probably from a lack of needed spare parts. You'll have to get what you need to complete repairs. It might also happpen if you interrupted repairs before completion. You might also have a grey CLK ico if you are flying anything but a carrier... that means you don't have that system, the cloaking system. [ 01-31-2002, 02:56: Message edited by: Epsilon 5 ]

I don't care if the lightning is the best around, that nebulas wave around my ship like it does in the ST voyager intro... if it looks like I'm fightning a glorified CAN OPENER it's stupid. quote:And you forget the most important thing... . . . . . . . ...they won't have my soundtrackI know I sometimes put my music loud by I can't SEE it yet

I don't get it What's so funny?

Bleh, I don't like how EVERYTHING looks... Looks too much like asian stuff, too triangulated... Their liberty fighter looks too weird... and object-looking battleships? Looks lame.

Picking up the mining drones without my tac computer
Epsilon 5 replied to Hudson's topic in Battlecruiser 3000AD (Legacy)
If you know you are near your drones (if you used the way said by Tyrn), you simply have to put the Tascan computer in GND mode. LAst of my knowledge mining drones weren't flying -
ROTFLMAO! "Both tanks" lol, more like 6 frigates and destroyers

Interplay, can it get any worse?

Good thing Volition was created... or all hopes of seeing a Descent 4 would have vanished -

Epsilon 5 replied to Hudson's topic in Battlecruiser 3000AD (Legacy)
Go in a shuttle yourself, and get those drones. Repeat with all, after you docked and removed it from your shuttle's cargo bay. That is, only if you still can launch shuttles -
a good ol' f-18 or its equivalents could just pass over at high speed anb drop a bomb, and BOOM no more soldier, no more armor. The "infantry" concept itself is getting old, since a single armored/flying unit can take care of many, many soldiers. The only thing soldiers are good at is sneaking. What would have happened is the US would have sent thousands of soldiers to fight the Talibans instead of droppping an equivalent amount of bombs? More, much more deaths, and one ugly war we would probably still be fighting today. [ 01-30-2002, 04:10: Message edited by: Epsilon 5 ]

Newtonian Physics vs. the SC's Physics
Epsilon 5 replied to Thomas Braun's topic in Battlecruiser Series
quote:thought gravity was just a property of mass...No. Gravity is energy, as much as light and magnetism is (well different energy forms) Gravity is generated by anything, but is MUCH weaker than magnetism, which is weaker than light. So theorically as much as we created lightbulbs and interruptible+variable magnets, with technology we can assume we will eventually be able to create artificially gravity. -
Yes. You can hide anything in shuttles, ground vehicles, in the transporter room and in the cargo pod if you really need to. Some extra space.

ROTFLMAO! Die, cheaters, die! err.. Die cheater's computers, die!

Whoa! whoohoo In that topic, I KNEW there was something odd in his post.. that feeling... What was his name before? Btw I have another IP (in fact a hostname) of a detractor, pretty ressourceful too, and it's another one from australia. First I doubted it would be Herbert but Jaguar told me it could be his hostname at work, or home, if the one you caught was at work. c37746.blktn1.nsw.optusnet.com.au He comes often on the #battlecruiser chan on galaxynet (which I took the pleasure of registering). I got tempted to ban him but the only times he spoke someone was there to have fun with him (Fendi mostly )... and I can kick him if he says something. Newtonian Physics vs. the SC's Physics
Epsilon 5 replied to Thomas Braun's topic in Battlecruiser Series
quote: I think it would be more than just 1 book in an encyclopedia. The physicists who plot the course of the shuttle all have doctorates, and from the finest schools in the country (or out). There's a reason why they know exactly where the shuttle is going to be at exactly any milli-second. To actually fly is TRUE newtonian physics, is very hard.Well at NASA each mililiters of fuel is important, so they must not waste anything, in case something goes wrong. In 3000ad, you have hyperdrives, and you generally have a generous supply of radine, and when you're running low you can easily get back home. So wasting a few units of radine is not that critically bad. However what annoys me is the max speed. When you hit ABs you accelerate so fast.... then freeze at some speed instantly, or almost. I'd say that lowering the AB power at a third of the current power and making the max speed of each ship 5x faster and with a longer full-dead accel speed time would already improve things... hmmm hit-and-runs -

Cool. Btw : how long is "recently"... how long do we stay on that bar? Just curious. Hey I noticed the message icons are not in the same order

Newtonian Physics vs. the SC's Physics
Epsilon 5 replied to Thomas Braun's topic in Battlecruiser Series
Depends... there was this old 2D-shooter-scroller game (Tyrian, anyone played that?) that had a somehow good explanation of how you could get sounds in space. They were speaking about gravitronic sensor, to sense the "space-time" ripples created by any object's movement and such, then computing it to create realistic sounds. "When you ride you space-yacht thru an asteroid field, it's preferable to hear more than techno-music or simply nothing" I found the explanation pretty good, and somewhat realistic. For flight physics, I'd rather see a "relaxed" version, where the good stuff would be implemented, and the bad stuff removed, or getting it's effects reduced. Like unlimited speed : yeah, could be cool, but then ships don't accelerate as fast. Afterburners would imperatively need to be weakened, cause it wouldn't make sense in battle. Acceleration would make all the difference, instead of max speed, as it is right now. Inertia : tends to be a problem in most games, when you're taking too much time to aim, and to try to head in the good direction, but manoeuvering could have an automatic drag depending on the thrust factor (higher the thrust, sharper the turns, and less deviation), not too much, just enough too feel you are big and hard to turn (and fighters could be screeching around starstation's stuctures ). I can imagine it now... a strafing StormCarrier [ 01-27-2002: Message edited by: Epsilon 5 ] -
LOL... they're thinking about maybe implanting AI ships and mp...
-
ACK! I need something to automatically brake! I got lost 15AU from Titan (I has unl. fuel selected) Gets real tough to land which the glider Damn newtonian physics
-
Yeah, I already played that before, seems they upfgraded. I'll try again. Ultimate newtonian physics! Oh and btw SC you remember our argument long ago about seamless planet-space transition? Well I meant what we can see in Orbiter.
