  1. JOIN THE GAMMULANS! Due to possible imminent military activity that may result in moving the Diplomatic fleet farther from home, the Gammulan Patrol Group is now expanding it's ranks. Come help defend the honor and territory of the most powerful race in the galaxy. Sign up now at: http://members.home.com/gammulan/main.htm [ 11-07-2001: Message edited by: Advil ]
  2. For those interested, Logitech is putting out the Wingman Force 3D stick for Christmas in the $50 range. They're out now, so if you want cheap FF, this might be a good way to try it out. As for me I like my MS Precision Pro USB. Maybe I'll get a FF stick when I wear this one out.
  3. It is an honor sir. As Defensive Advisor to the councel, I swear to defend Gammulan territory and honor with all the military might available to me, and even with my very life if necessary. The might of our people will not be diminished during my administration. I would also take a moment to congratulate Jaguar on his recent appointment to Offensive Advisor. A more "diplomatic" individual would be hard to find. I look forward to working with him, as I do with you sir. May our age of glory only increase it's brightness over the coming years. Thank you,
  4. Thanks for the compliments guys, and you SC. I'm trying to make sure the gammulans get some attention. Jaguar's got his, and I've got a special one for LordDavid but I want him to see it first. I've never done morphs or animated gifs before, so it's been a fun learning experience. Well, back to lounging around the VCF. Pass me a cold one.
  5. Clean that baby up first. We're patient.
  6. They sounded like this when happy: Tribble Cooing And like this when upset: Tribble Freaking
  7. I've got the lawn chairs. This is good practice for when Lord of the Rings hits the theaters.
  8. I don't spend a lot of time there, but I stop in every few days to see what's been going on. I'm impressed. That's quite a complex that you all have going. It's getting to the point where it would make a good RP setting for the fleets if they agreed to use it.
  9. Shrink it or nuke it. Anything anywhere near that area is already sucking up precious frame rate. If it's not being worked on and isn't completed, It's no biggie. Urban renewal and all.
  10. I would think the 1024x768 option should be fine on either of those cards based on the beta. And 800x600 absolutely. I like the looks of the GF3 Ti 200 personally, but go with whichever one your budget allows. You'll like either one.
  11. After seeing StarFlight being mentioned in another thread, I thought I'd throw out some names of a few other oldies I remember playing all the way through: Lightspeed Sentinel Worlds Space Rogue and Star Control 1 & 2 ADDED 10/31/01 - Sentinel Worlds Screenshot: Ahh, good memories of all those. I distinctly remember Sentinel Worlds, both for its bugs, but mainly as being about 10 years ahead of its time. They worked so hard at making a relatively simple game look incredibly futuristic. As far as I remember they were the first to overlay a top-down map of your party in realtime while moving in a first person 3D maze. Hard to describe, but the effect was breathtaking at the time, real art. Now it makes you look back and laugh. But someone had to be the first.
  12. Personally I found the preview for the movie about the spider invasion much more disturbing than 13 Ghosts was. I really didn't realize I hated spiders that much.
  13. Yeah, I've been lucky enough to see them all so far in order in widescreen and 5.1 audio. If you are the type who likes war movies, this series is IMHO better than Private Ryan, and about 10 times longer. It's absolutely awesome, and disturbing at the same time. The acting is A quality through the whole thing. I'll be buying this series when it comes out on DVD. If you have a chance to see it, start at the beginning if you can. Seriously, you're doing yourself a disservice if you don't start at the beginning of these. You'll regret it.
  14. That was actually a fair amount of support from Hook, or at least as much as you can expect. Even though he waffled a bit to keep everyone happy, his last paragraph pretty much says "overall, I agree".
  15. What?!?! Anything before midnight PST is EARLY!
  16. Hahaha, you read Free Republic don't you?
  17. Well, at least in my experience, the ASUS are about the most expensive out there. If you WANT the extra features of the asus (3d glasses, etc...) go for it. They are almost always great. Otherwise I have had good luck with MSI (I won a benchmark competition with one of their GF3 cards. The sucker went to 555 memory and 221 core. Don't try this at home kids you have to cool it way beyond the norm. ) and Leadtek makes the GF2 Pro card that's in my system right now. No complaints with it either. Mainly, I'd say avoid the major generic brands. (The ones that don't get reviewed much, like Gainward, EVga, PNY, etc...)
  18. Great editorial. It's about time someone with some pull said it exactly like that. I just hope ATI doesn't totally cut you off from their developer program for being blunt with them in public. They need to keep working with you, even though you are not happy. It's time they deal with the developers on this. How else is it going to get fixed? They havn't shown any interest in listening to the average joe gamer.
  19. And to think I almost ordered some of those a few days ago. I'll be saying a mighty "screw you" to ATI until I can get my hands on the retail cards. Because now I'll never know which ones my suppliers will send me if I get the OEM. Once again ATI makes a bone-headed maneuver.
  20. As a retail computer store guy, (yeah, there's a million of us) I can say that there's only 2 card lines that I like from ATI. Expert 2000 - (cheap as dirt, great DVD playback with ATI DVD, useless for new games) All-In-Wonder Series - (about the best "consumer level" video capture card. It also happens to be reasonable for any game that will work. So it's good for people who wan't capture, and games are secondary.) Everything else they make... screw it. There's something better from Nvidia. This is just my opinion. Feel free to disagree, tell me I'm full of crap, etc...
  21. Yeah but here's the question: When has ATI EVER fixed their damn drivers?
  22. Yikes $ilk. That described more than a few people I know.
  23. There is almost no way to shock yourself working on hardware in a PC unless the power is on wile you are doing it. Please, be careful! Work slow, and think it through first.

  25. And on the subject of sigs, what's the ship prefix for the Gammulans? Not GCV I assume? I've got GAM in there until I hear the official word. "Diplomacy is the art of letting someone have your way." - By any means necessary -
