EB (Physical store) has always charged me right away for my pre-orders. I'll order something months in advance and then go add ten, maybe fifteen dollars a week until it's payed off. Ebworld.com, though, dosn't charge you at all until it ships.

They're right... I just wouldn't count on it. It'd be just as easy to print that one out and send it in. Sometimes, though, they'll give you $10 at the register. Sometimes.

Actually, it might be interesting to see where they take it. There's always that infinitesimal chance that Hollywood won't screw it up. These remakes always seem to make one fatal, but deliberate mistake... toning down the seriousness by adding goofiness. Remember Lost in Space? Almost, but not quite. What was with that friggin monkey-thing?!?!? Why did they have to destroy the cool robot to make a lame one!?!? If your going to reinvent the wheel, at least keep it round.

The Collectors Edition will cost you $69.99, however. Too bad the game itself dosn't cost that. Heck, I remember forking out $80 for Daggerfall back in the day. Hostile Waters? Blech. I just put in my pre-order for Morrowind Collectors Edition (PC), X-Box Bravo Bundle (At ebgames.com), and Morrowind (X-Box). Think two Morrowinds is one too much? I bought Longest Journey again when they released it in the US... just for the nifty new box art (ie; I imported a UK version long before it was ever released here).

Well, if there can be gas planets and nebulae, I don't see why there shouldn't be stars in the star systems. I checked the VCF but didn't see anything about stars. Maybe they're too big for the engine to handle? Still, I'd be cool to go flying through a solar flare (A la Voyager). Maybe in a patch, perhaps?

Actually, I've had a lot of luck using CloneCD 3 to make copies of stuff for LAN parties (I bought the game, and I want to be able to play it at my own house on my own computers... OMG, Dark Age of Camelot is #1 right now!!! Man, if you thought Anarchy Online was an EQ clone, you havn't seen anything until you've seen DAOC. I was in the beta... or at least as much as I could stand... so take my word for it: DAOC is the absolute Platonic Form of sh!t. I can't remember playing a more worthless game in my life. Not only is it a clone, but its a bad clone. Stay away from that game, I'm warning you. Red Faction as well. Try the PC demo or the full game on the PS2 before you even think of purchasing it. It's an action game with a gimick... but it loses its novelty fast and your left rather drab, uninspired FPS that dosn't really do anything of remote interest. I would go so far as to say that its even a bit less interesting than Oni. The games highest on my list are mostly the [ sometimes significantly] less-hyped works: BCM, Wizardry 8, MYTH 3, Empire Earth, Civ 3, and Pool of Radiance 2 (Although I remain VERY sceptical of the last).

Soback, most of the people with safedisk problems have cheap CD-ROMS. Thats what you get when you bargain anything (Or even if you buy some high-dollar mfrd computers). I buy only Creative and HP drives (Despite the fact that I have a major beef with HP over their piss-poor customer service and support)... never had any problems with safedisk. I've also had BTC, USDrives, Mitsumi, Hitachi, and various other brands who aren't so trustworthy. Not only did those drives have copy protection problems, but many of them had 2-6 month lifetimes. If you have problems with copy protection, you should seriously think about upgrading.

Well, there are always exceptions. Maybe I should hve included that. My personality tends to require my stuffing people, places, things into little neatly labled boxes =) But heads on spikes... people popping in airlocks.... this movie is starting to sound kind of interesting. The trailer for the movie is STILL a big turn off. Heres the impression I got out of it: I see low-budget horror/sci-fi flick with several hillariously stereotypical traits. We see a rapper in some type of prison (Ohhh THATS original) and the catch is that its Mars. Meanwhile, we have the renegade group of Marilyn Mansion worshippers who like to brutally kill people. The heros (Whoever they are) need the badass prison innmate to help defend whatever from the evil Marilyn Manson worshippers. Ok... now how on/off the point was I (Sarcasm notwithstanding)?

Well, I know that if it were MY project, I wouldnt trust it to anyone else either. If you want something done right, you do it yourself. And you don't wait for someone else to screw it up first, either =) But true, I never even expected blood, gore, or head shots until it was brought up just now. But keep in mind, IMHO, GHOUL single handedly made Soldier of Fortune the best FPS ever. If Max Payne had GHOUL... ohhh ho ho ho! I just expect all my games to have GHOUL now. Call me spoiled. I just wish there was some way around the ESRB to get that content/patch/expansion/whatever. I'll be content with BCM nonetheless. I had some other things to say about the ESRB and ratings (Including the idea that noone is going cancel their pre-orders just because a game is rated M - regional issues would be the only concern), but I know whining here = death.... so I wont. Just one last thing: Remember Giants. Its better that theres no blood at all rather than everyone bleeding green. *shudders*

One thing about Carpenter is that his movies are either really good or really bad. I havn't seen Ghosts of Mars but I can explain exactly why I expect it to suck (An so will likely not see it). Just from the trailers you can tell that the movie dosnt have a very big budget, and I get that "bargain sci-fi movie" vibe every time I watch it. Next, an unequivocal rule of film: Any movie which stars or otherwise makes use of a rapper, pop singer, vocal artisan, professional wrestler, or other professional from a specialized field other than stage or film (Extending less strictly to those associated with network television) is absolutely destined to fail.

Alright, I got the thing to work. To say the least, I'm kinda glad that you decided to go with another engine. BCTE only looks like it had a couple weeks work, but Quake makes that engine look outdated. I'm expecting something at least on par with ST Voyager: Elite Force or AvP2. Hopefully the latter.

Thats usually about the time I start researching older games that I may have missed. I just picked up a copy of Obsidian lying around at a Software Etc. So far, so good. It dosnt even come close to The Longest Journey, though, IMO. Anyhoo, if your game collection is less than complete, check out one of these Scrivener 5-star favorites. I think Battlecruiser may fit into a genre that still hasn't quite matured. The Personal Simulation. I'm talking about games where you play a character and the game takes place around the said character. We're talking the age old rule of ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances. Its the very fabric of what makes gaming great: being able to go places and do things that simple aren't possible in the real world. So far, the two closest things to a personal simulation out there are Ultima Online and Daggerfall. That dosnt mean RPGs in general either. A personal simulation offers you COMPLETE FREEDOM to go wherever you want and do whatever you want. Essentially, it simulates being a person in whatever setting the developer choses. Game genres are done by gameplay style anyway. IMHO, Diablo is little more than an Action game... (Don't even say "with RPG elements" because then I'll have to go into a 30 page rant on what makes comprises an RPG). I also forgot to mention that BCM still falls short of the Personal Simulation category. Well, until those ship interior packs get released, that is. [ 08-21-2001: Message edited by: Scrivener ]
