  1. I'm planning to get parts and build a custom PC centered on gaming (what else? ). If the denizens of this board who have dabbled into this kind of thing would be willing to make some suggestions on what to get (all parts, from mobo to modem, and yes, I need a modem AND NIC), it would be greatly appreciated. I know some of the basics like a GeForce 2 Ultra/MX or even a GF 3, and a AMD T-bird, but I'm wondering about things like the monitor, speakers, sound card, etc. Also a vidcard that includes Video-in/Video-out would be a plus, but not necessary. I'm willing to accept a link to a guide, but if you say PlanetHardware, I'm going to toss ya out the nearest airlock! If anyone even responds, thanks in advance!
  2. I don't know if this helps, but I checked my file sizes of the /anim directory using the DOS dir command, and they were exactly as Rico's were. I got the game from FilePlanet, and the intro movie ends abruptly in the asteroid scene after the fighters have launched with an "invalid command" error, then the games loads as per normal. Hope this helps...
  3. Time for me to stop lurking for a bit. I'm not asking for technical support, I'm just asking a humble question. I understand that this game is unsupported, so I just wanted to know if this "feature" actually is a feature, or if maybe I downloaded the game incorrectly. I've posted this here as I don't want to be banned for asking this in a whole new thread. The thread IS labled "NEWBIE HELP", after all. A curious thing happened when I was playing the free 2.09 BC3k that the SC recently released. After reading the manual, I played the game, and something hit me: I could use the HSD, the ENM was active, I could use the PAD, and I even had Fleet C&C. This was in both Free Flight and ACM, and was WITHOUT, I repeat, WITHOUT installing any cheats, and without finding the artifacts in ACM. I've retested this, and it's the same every time. I searched the forum, but could not find any specifics to this oddity. The only thing I found was that someone mentioned (I think it was the SC) that the game had to be run in debug mode to avoid checking for a CD-ROM. However, I thought that required a "/d" or something tag in the shortcut to do that, and the shortcut doesn't contain any tags. This is really confusing me, as I can't stop this from happening, and I want to play Free Flight without using the ENM and such, as the rest I can just simply not use. The other artifacts (or their abilities) aren't there, either. JAC isn't there roaming around fixing things, and the Life factor stays the same, and the fatigue factor still increases, so no Celestial orb. I can't use the RANDOM, so that's not there. The Karanian Reactor, the Tacyon shield, and the TMCD aren't there, either. So, has anyone else experienced these phenomena with the new free 2.09? Like I said, I'd like to play Free Flight without having to accept the ENM's benefits, and I'd like to be able to find the artifacts for myself in ACM, in order to get their power on my own. SC, all things considered, this is a great game, that I've still only scratched the surface of. As everyone else who reads this board, I can't wait until BC:M and GCO. I honestly wish I had known about this game back when I COULD buy it. Unfortunately, I didn't play many PC games back then, and thus didn't look for news about PC games. I'd be glad to have paid for this game, and I'll be among the first in line to get BC:M and GCO. One other question: Has any work begun on GCO, beyond the conceptual work? When are you going to release the VCF for it, eh? Keep up the good work, and thank you again for making this great game.
