  1. Sorry for my sudden absence last Friday night, my hard drive started making funny noises and crashed my computer. I've been able to get it working again, but I'm buying a new hard drive and starting from scratch, so as to eliminate any further problems.
  2. All right, we're up and running, the game is TFC, and the IP is 216.231.167.138:20715. We're all there, so just join up!
  3. Yeah, ditto. When are we going to have an actual gaming session?
  4. I'll vote for CS or TFC, whatever is more popular (seems to be TFC ATM). My connection is T3.
  5. All right, who's up for some Desert Crisis this evening? You can download it here.
  6. I'm really into any HL mod, so if Jag's interested, we can meet somewhere for some TFC Sunday. I usually play as a spy, HW or medic. If it's a HL mod, I probably have it. [ 09-28-2002, 10:30 PM: Message edited by: Urza ]
  7. Reporting for duty, sir! I'll have my profile by tomorrow evening.
  8. Whoa, I was going to see this, but MAN, I may have to go to HSX and short this one. (hey, if I hurry I can get it commission-free, being Saturday) [ 09-21-2002, 10:22 PM: Message edited by: Urza ]
  9. When I'm at work, my smiles are so large, people often ask if I just had half a bottle of pep pills. Here's a common encounter that makes me want to rip my hair out: Customer: "How big is your large soda?" Urza: "44 ounces." Customer: "Yeah, but how big is it?" Excuse me, but "44 ounces" is saying EXACTLY how big it is. Regardless of how you look at it, $4 for such a soda is a rip-off, even if you do get free refills. PS: Why I'm still awake at 3 am writing posts I'll never know. [ 09-21-2002, 03:16 AM: Message edited by: Urza ]

  11. *sigh* Counterstrike is still getting people into trouble... I didn't think this law would remain. It'll be long gone before the year is out.
  12. I can't imagine something like the lottery being be fixed. There's a lot of security around those drawings, and it's hard to imagine them all being in on it. As for the S&P 500, that's genuinely weird. Speaking of weird coincidences, my power supply fried itself last week while I was browsing these boards, and the surge took my mainboard with it (everything else was fine). I've only just gotten everything working again (my system profile has been updated), and I just noticed it all happened while my post count was 666. [ 09-16-2002, 09:34 PM: Message edited by: Urza ]
  13. Great fun. I totally got a kick out of those 'virtues and vices' your generals get based on the things they do. For example, run from battle too much and you get 'good runner', which has various negitive modifiers. Win battles when you're down by more than 2 to 1 (because of quality over quantity) and his command will increase in that condition. Make him the Duke of a prospering province and he may become a good trader or builder (or he may overeat and become fat). A failed assassination attempt may also make him paranoid. Battle wounds may produce scars which reduce health, but increase dread. The list goes on and on (there are several hundred in all), but suffice to say, each of your generals and vassals will have a unique identity just a few turns into the game. (this is because all your generals start with a 'clean slate' as it were, and develop these perks as the game progresses). Some of these vices can be kept secret, however an opposing spy can reveal them (for example, overtaxing a province to lavish himself in luxury), and force him to live with whatever negative effects my incur. The battles are spectacular, which I've come to expect from this series. [ 09-07-2002, 12:39 AM: Message edited by: Urza ]
  14. This law simply won't stand. If it does, tourism there will most likely cease to exist.

Randomization is paramount IMO. Without it, you're just doing the same thing over and over. Even otherwise fun games can have this problem, as they will eventually get old if they don't change things up a bit. I finally put NOLF in the 'reject pile' (all the 'spent' games go there) a few weeks ago. After playing it through three times, twice on the hardest difficulty setting, it just got too repeditive.
  16. Here. It's told in the form of a trip to Best Buy. A very good read.
  17. OMG, this film is going to rock my world! Unfortunately, I only work at the theatre during the summer and winter seasons, so I won't get to see it for free , but it still looks to be worth my money.
  18. Oooooooo! Urza runs out of the bridge and to the head, only to find an 'out of order' sign. That's it, I'm going in the transporter!
  19. That's kind of a cheesy way of doing it. Surely there is a less riskier way that early space pioneers used. That assumes that these pioneers wanted to explore them (after discovering the risk initally) in the first place.
  20. The moral of this story? Playmod can do strange things, so it's best not to use it, unless you just want to test/try something (RANDOM ).
  21. Nice action sequences, but I'm still looking forward to James Bond 20. Nice comedy, too. Nothing to write home about, though it was certainly worth watching. 7/10
  22. Don't worry, I won't shoot you... ...unless you piss me off.
  23. I'll start with the spoiler-free review... This movie was building up nicely, right up until the end. The story (especially the ending) had so many holes, the more I think about it, the more I dislike it. It did have some suspenseful moments (a girl a few rows ahead of me let out an ear-piercing scream at one point), and some well-placed comedy, but the ending was just unforgiveably bad. 4/10 **SPOILERS BELOW THIS POINT** OK, I'm going to list all of the fatal flaws this story had. First, the trailers led you going to be some exciting alien encounters, but I was utterly dissapointed that I didn't get one good look at one of those aliens. Secondly, why did the aliens, who are obviously smart enough to get to Earth in the first place, completely unable to bash down a feeble wooden door? If they are weak physically, why wouldn't they bring down some sort of advanced equipment? As for the whole water bit, it doesn't make sence that water is harmful to life, when it's actually ESSENTIAL to it. Even its chemical makeup is unimpressive. Hydrogen and oxygen. Wow. But I'd buy it, if it wasn't for this gross oversight; wouldn't the aliens discover Earth had water virtually everywhere, and go somewhere else? Even if they didn't, why didn't they bring some sort of rebreather to protect them from the water vapor in the air? Or some sort of chemical suit? It's also hard to believe the aliens would give up so easily.
