  1. I do... Blow, blades, blow....err, that doesn't sound right?!
  2. This is sooo funny. If you want a first hand understanding of what removing guns from civilians can do... look at Australia. I just finished watching a report on their disarming of normal citizens. Crime rates skyrocketed. Especially in locations farther from the cities where there was NO chance of police assistance. Not that the police assisted those in the city (it would be impossible... too many people too few police). Also, you need to look at why the right to bear arms was included in the US constitution/declaration of Ind. It was to ensure that the government would never be able to deny a citizen's right to defend himself, family, property, home, state, or country. Without the basic right to defend yourself, injustice reigns supreme. There are millions of incedents in the US, Brit-land, and all other countries where laws have been so twisted that the victim was more severely punished for the crime than the criminal. Also, it's not the guns in the hands of the normal law-abiding citizen that cause all the harm. It's the weapon (any kind) in the hand of the criminal/insane that is dangerous. Just the fact that these people live outside the law means that creating laws to control crime is ludicrous. Again, I point to Australia. Taking away citizen's right to bear arms in defense has opened to floodgates for criminals to use the same banned weapon to commit their crime. But wait, it's illegal... But wait, anything can be obtained if you want it enough. So, how do anti-weapon laws help. They don't help the normal person one bit. However, they are a boon to governments. With anti-weapon laws (including anti-martial arts i.e. china) a government reverts to the MIGHT MAKES RIGHT principle. Anti-weapon laws ONLY help governments. It ensures that, no matter how lawful or unlawful, the gov. doesn't have to worry about life threatening retribution. Sure, appeals can be made. Complaints lodged. But, like folks that have goods seized as suspected drug runners, red tape can and will bury you FOREVER. Without the right to lethally defend yourself, the government has the abillity to do WHATEVER they want. You can be forced from your home; your country; your life; without ANY recourse. Welcome to the holocaust. Germans did it to Jews, Americans did it to Japs... etc. etc. The reason that we (US) have our freedoms plainly spelled out is so that each individual freedom has another freedom to support it. You take away the right to bear arms and you weaken another freedom. For instance, take away arms. Crime rate goes through the roof. The only way to protect yourself is to give qaurter to government officials that can protect you. Boom, another freedom (no quarter) is gone. So, you no longer have the right to deny the government entry into your home. Your privacy is now gone (it already is, just many of you don't know it), boom, your right to free speech is gone. Government officials now censor the press for their safety. You can't voice your opinions openly because now it's enciting riots (vietnam era) and somehow you now live in a police state with a leader that has a small black mustache cropped to the width of his nose. You see, US freedoms, ALL OF THEM, are necessary. Any one of those freedoms taken away weakens the others. If you believe that banning weapons works, I suggest you look at PROHIBITION. We tried to ban alchohol. Who bennifited? Not the citizens. Only criminals and the government. Alchohol was still in supply to those that wanted it just like guns will still be avail. to those that want them. Another example, the ban on narcotics. Has the war on drugs done anything to curtail the availabillity of substances to those that want them. NO. But it's made organizations rich. It's also given government agencies the right to deny citizens their rights. But hey, banning weapons wouldn't be the same as alchohol or drugs. Of coarse, more deaths have been atributed to substance abuse than weapon abuse... I just wish more people would open their eyes to the facts and stop towing the popular line. If you don't like guns, fine. That doesn't make you any less of a person. However, the moment you impose your dislike of guns on others is the exact same moment that you place yourself on equal standing with ALL the Stalins, Hittlers, and Caligulas. There is only one true law: Do unto others as you would have them do to you. That means treat people the way YOU want to be treated. So, if you want to take away MY freedoms, then you should completely expect that I will soon take your life because life without freedom is not worth living and I wouldn't want live like that. Would you?
  3. Gentlemen, this is the way it has always been and will be 'til changed: Fleets exist. Roleplay exists. Multiplayer will exist. Until MP exists, Fleets have nothing but RP to use as a recruiting tool. When MP is in full swing, Fleets will soon turn stats as a recruiting tool. However, I suspect that no recruiting will be necessary as new and existing commanders will request membership in the fleet they deem is the best for their needs. So, when someone uses a reference to RP, whether tagged or no, that's not a problem. It's all there is to reference. When MP comes along, references to RP will become laughable as new and existing players will KNOW what fleets are worth joining (as far as MP is concerned). At this point you will find newbies joining or requesting to join based on one of two things. A. They like MP and will join based on MP and laugh at anyone that points to RP when their MP stats suck. B. They like RP and will join based on RP recruiting. MP won't matter one bit. Their loyalties will go with their vision. The rare fleet, though, will exist prominately in both circles. Good MP and a good amount of RP history to make both worth while. That's what Spectre will be very soon (I don't know this, it's just an example... like RP). The moral of the story: RP history exists. It is well known to many in the community. It is the only way to differenciate between fleets right now. Don't get your delicates in a wad over it. MP will be here soon and you'll find RP existing solely in it's own little world as REAL facts replace FANTASY creations. Don't get bent into a pretzel. If you don't RP, no problem. Just play your heart out in MP; soon all the new players will be beating down your door to join; and you will have the last laugh Play nice kids...
  4. quote:Originally posted by dnoyeB!: Why would you want a dual processor unless you are running a server? Hehe, dnoyB! First, I want dual for video post, 3d, and other things I do. However, and probably more important (providing I remember correctly) BC:M will support multiple processors. Duals are NOT just for servers. Also, with the cheapest speculated AMD dual mobo being $300, I will most likely be an Intel fan for a while (thanx Abit )
  5. Yeah, i'm with ya Pyros. The only problem is that AMD = NO SMP Intel now has their Xeon4 for higher end SMP and the cpu's aren't too expensive. With two CPU's at 1.7Ghz there's nothing that AMD can do to touch that. Yes, I know that AMD has a chipset in the works that will allow SMP of dual T-birds/Athlon4's but they've been incredibly slow to show. So slow, that I doubt it will happen any time soon So, while AMD is king of the single proc, my money is currently being saved for dual xeon's as much as it sads me to be forced into buying a crap cpu (P4) because nothing's available in dual mode
  6. Ummm... Tac, this game's been around forever. It's already been through beta and has gone reatail. And the real name is: Counter-Strike It started as a Half-Life mod and is currently the king of online MP FPS gaming (most servers; most players at any given time) It has everything you're looking for and more. And it's what Infiltration is attempting to copy. Check it out. If you own Half-Life you can download the mod for free. If you don't, you can purchase HL or purchase Counter-Strike at your favorite game retailer. Now, if the gameplay in FPS mode is anything like the FPS's I'm used to, you guys better watch your backs. I'll be the dot on the hill that just added a new hole to your head

    Welcome

Welcome, Menchise. If you haven't already, get over to the Fleet Database and sign up. You will recieve your orders soon after. You've joined the only fight that matters: The struggle for the freedom of humanity. Don't lose sight of this and keep it near your heart. Though at times, you may lose physical sight of your Insurgent brethren, realize that our numbers are vast and we are everywhere. Merely ask, and aid will always be close at hand
  8. True, Eclipse, but that was RP and not a part of the official history, me thinks I eagerly await the release of BC:M. Multiplayer may just change all this banter. We may soon see new players jousting for positions within the fleets rather than the fleets scrounging for the crumbs that float by.
  9. Baloogan, you're going to need something to convert the .3d files into something useful. BC3K 2.x came with ted2asc but I can't get it to work on the newer BC:M files Once converted to .asc you'd need 3DS_R4 to manipulate the objects. Truespace used to read the .asc file format, but it's been a while since i cracked open that bugger and it didn't read the texture information (all i got was a wireframe). Now, having said that little ditty, even if you were able to get the .3d files converted, I'd suggest you get permission from Derek before you go public.
  10. XP will go the way of DIVX and all pay to play services (games aside). It won't fly for long and MS will find that NO ONE WANTS to buy crap they have to suscribe for. Also, there are privacy issues. You think MS will keep your upgrade information secret? NOPE, each time you upgrade hardware and have to make that call, they'll keep track of it and sell it to the highest bidder. Sorry, but this subscription crap only works for Massively MP games and barely at that.
  11. Steve, according to MaximumPC the Plextor is king of the hill and the Yamaha had less than good performance. Kush... If you're still wasting money on SCSI for video work, you're throwing green at the wind. I do post on mac's and pc's. I convinced the boss to switch to IDE when Maxtor's 7200 rpm diamond max plus drives hit 40gb. Haven't changed since. IDE Raid with a 0+1 (two striped arrays, one as a mirror) provides me with so much bandwidth it isn't funny. The only SCSI hd that's come close to the throughput of my single 75GB Desstar 75gxp drive was a Seagate Cheata at 15k rpm. That drive was fast, but for the same price, I could have trippled my storage space and had 4x the sustained transfer in a raid array. SCSI is only necessary when you need arrays larger than 4 drives. Firewire... heh! don't get me started. It's yet to show anything near it's 400mbit throughput. If you want something fast that's external to your system then think Fibre Channel. Anyway, off to kick the boss for buying single proc. g4's instead of the duals
  12. Mostly depends on what you're doing. Since we're in BC land, I'll just say that from what I remember, BC supports SMP (Symetric Multi Processing) meaning, two cpu's are better than one. Basically, anything that is cpu intensive bennifits from dual cpu's. Granted, if all you do is type in Word and surf the web, then one cpu will do you just fine. However, if you're doing graphics, 3D, music, video, vid/audio encoding, etc. 2 is better. Just something to think about.
  13. quote:P4 is a whole new generation and therefore is the fastest processor right now. So if you get a P4 then it will be a while before they become absolete Sobak, that is a completely incorrect remark. I'm not an AMD fan, myself, but their 1.3ghz is running on par with the p4 1.7ghz. Yes, RDRAM has a wider bus..., etc. However, the P4 has a SERIOUS flaw. It's got a huge bandwidth overhead that kills any performance gain you should be getting. Thus the price drop. Don't get me wrong, though, I love INTEL. However, the most bang for the buck is in two places: Dual P3's or 1+ghz AMD. Personally, I'd grab two 1ghz P3's before the AMD and long before the P4. If you MUST have a p4... wait. Wait for another price drop or wait for the .13micron fab. Also, there is no reason to be thinking single CPU. Win2k Pro costs just as much as WinME. GO DUAL. GO DUAL. GO DUAL. Unless you're on a restrictive (sub $1000) or don't want to build your own rig, there is no good reason that should keep you from having two cpu's under the hood.
  14. Tac... I said the same thing about B5 when it first came out. It was impossible to know what the story arc was until late in the 3rd season when JMS was having to rewrite the 4th season to include the 5th season that wasn't going to be optioned by WB... then he had to rewrite the 5th season for TBS and, aside from the final ep, it showed. Hell, Crusade was the same way. No one knew what the hell was going on because the bigger picture was slated to start at the first ep of season 2(or last ep of season 1). Voyager always had an obvious story arc: get home... BORING. I really hated ST S9 for it's terrible acting and poorly written shows, but it's arc (impossible to know til the end of the 2nd season) was pretty cool once it wrapped up. Point being: You can judge a book by its cover, but you'll never be a reliable critic 'til you've read it all the way through. ------ DeSylva, man it's great to have you back I agree, the tension created by the stories are intense. Season 2 is amazing. I won't tell you what happens because it's just an emotional rollercoaster for all involved. If you have a decent connections you can usually find the shows for dl from one of the alt.binaries newsgroups. Or, you could easily get the whole of both season 1 and now 2 on DVD. If you're the same region code as Brit'land. Sadly, they just started releasing season 1 on DVD here in the states Anyway, i'm out. Happy Easter to all and happy TAX day tom. to all you Americaners.
  15. FARSCAPE rules. Great stories. Great characters. Great F/X. Great character interaction. And then there's Claudia Black (Aeryn Sun)... Aaaah. It's the best sci-fi show out now. Stargate SG-1 pulls a close second (when there are new shows )
  16. There are a good many things that could cause the flicker. First, however, if you're at anything 75hz or above, then you shouldn't experience any flicker. Some monitor's, though, do wear out. Try lowering your resolution while maintaining at least 75hz. Also, look for unsheilded components near your monitor. Fans, speakers, power cables form other devices, etc. A good number of things can affect your monitor. Also, if you've got an old power-strip, you may want to upgrade that as well. UPS's don't last forever either. Also, if you are getting white lines every once in a while then you may want to check the monitor cable. Additionally, you may not be getting enough airflow in your case to effectively cool your GPU. Those guys run hot enough to fry an egg (don't try though, you'll void the warranty). If your vid card doesn't have a heatsink/fan combo on top of the GPU, you need to look into something to push air past the heatsink. Otherwise, you will in all likelihood smell some smoke in the future. Good luck, cuz, by your description in your first post, I doubt it's a refresh rate issue. There should be NO compat. issues with your monitor, though.

    IRC Server

DeSylva, is that really you? The location is in Australia... I just don't believe my eyes... no, it can't be you... can it? Well, either way, no one has used IRC in a LONG time. The link was dropped. Sorry. ICQ seems to be the main mode of non-discussion board communications. Good to hear your still alive. ------------------ Insurgent Two, Akira ICV Nevermore, Spectre HQ (Antis) Minister of War, Insurgency Official Tester, Battlecruiser Series ICQ 13379858
  18. Aaah, another year another million lines of code Happy B-Day, DS.
  19. Blades, Akira is probably dead by now and you have yet to move the crew to Nina's ship... What say we get a move on? Otherwise, I may find an interesting way to pull Akira out of trouble (i.e., i'm getting tired of my alter ego being abused by EarthCOM). Some fine fun writing here, it's just getting a bit long in the tooth ------------------ Insurgent Two, Akira ICV Nevermore, Spectre HQ (Antis) Minister of War, Insurgency Official Tester, Battlecruiser Series ICQ 13379858
  20. Hi, Akuma. Rattler is just VERY busy with work right now. (Like many of us!) He'll be back when the free time presents itself ------------------ Insurgent Two, Akira ICV Nevermore, Spectre HQ (Antis) Minister of War, Insurgency Official Tester, Battlecruiser Series ICQ 13379858
  21. Those archived records are old information, Epsilon. BCM is still in beta. No one will know what the game will be like until it goes gold. To prevent NDA issues, this thread is closed.
  22. Anyone know of an alternate dl site for this photo? I can't seem to get through to the server... thanx

    Rumor Control

[rp] Check yourself, Blades, before you lose that position. None of you Galcommie Fleet Comm's have the authority to offer ANYTHING with regards to Insurgents. Not even the Supreme Commander can offer anything but a quick death. Our fight is with the UFN. No matter how big your guns; how large your intellect; how crafty your words; you are the polliticians' dogs. Dogs are good for three things: Bark, Bite, and Befriend. You, Blades, are the best example yet. I just didn't know dogs would breed with lemmings However, feel free to make your claims. Just don't expect Rattler to lower himself enough to believe them. Furthermore, don't expect me to allow any other Insurgent listen to your drivel. [/rp] ------------------ Insurgent Two, Akira ICV Nevermore, Spectre HQ (Antis) Minister of War, Insurgency Official Tester, Battlecruiser Series ICQ 13379858
  24. [rp]Dreada, there is a comm's lock down on this one. The fact that neither you nor the New Bella know nothing simply confirms that the machine is working properly. You Galcommies will only know what we want you to know. If you ever happen to think that you've found somehting out, refer to the previous.[/rp] ------------------ Insurgent Two, Akira ICV Nevermore, Spectre HQ (Antis) Minister of War, Insurgency Official Tester, Battlecruiser Series ICQ 13379858
  25. Welcome to the fold old Pirate. We, you and I, have much to discuss. Water under the bridge and all. That aside, the Insurgency is all the much better with the addition of your skills. ------------------ Insurgent Two, Akira ICV Nevermore, Spectre HQ (Antis) Minister of War, Insurgency Official Tester, Battlecruiser Series ICQ 13379858
