Hmm - Microsoft's Flight Simulator lacks a "structured campaign". Can't imagine why it a consistent best seller.

I like "Starships Unlimited" - it's a Realtime 4x strategy game which focuses on the ships and exploration - even in large maps you'll only have a handful of colonies, and a 'governor' can manage those for you. The ships gain experience and combat manuevers as they survive combat. Check it out at: Starship Unlimited
