  1. Ditto! I guess its not cool to like this movie around here, but i really, really enjoyed it. So did my wife who saw the original in NY.
  2. DID YOU WATCH IT?
  3. I just saw Half Nelson and have to add it to my list. Ryan Gosling is one to watch..
  4. Thats what I thought, I wonder how those folks who bought five of them (with dreams of a hi resale)at launch feel now?
  5. Already have 360, and I thought the PS3 was 600.00. At least that was the price I saw on the 15 models they put out at the local Gamestop yesterday. I guess the shortage is over huh?
  6. 199.99 is quite a bargain. has anyone priced Blu-Ray players? After what my wife spent this Xmas I better not even think about 800.00 for BR or even 499.99 for HD. Go Microsoft! Man thats a scary thought..
  7. I agree on most of what I have seen on your list. I thought the Departed was a brilliant film , the best I saw this year, but i felt the Fountain was too ambitious and while stunning, was flawed. I have to include an Inconvienient Truth, because as a Doc, it worked. You justhave to ignore the politics. Just like respecting and loving Birth of a Nation, as groundbreaking achievement in film, while despising the hate it espoused. I also felt Miami Vice was more praiseworthy than its critical repsonse indicated, Michael Mann's visual style continues to amaze me and as some of you may know, I hate the hollywood ending and he avoids them like the plague.
  8. Since the wife overspent and didnt buy any games, i treated myself to some B-Day gifts today,I picked up an impromptu Mike Mann collection, Miami Vice directors cut, Collateral DC, and Heat. I also grabbed F.E.A.R, Condemned and Fight Night3 for the 360. I am now broke and forced to drink domestic beer till next week! Oh yeah, I am forty-frakkin-seven today!
  9. Echo, is that for Steeler fans or for Steeler haters who want to "Dump" on the Black and Gold? Happy new Year!
  10. PS This year was an aberation. Last year I got a rocking chair and a pair of courdroy house shoes.
  11. This is the best Xmas for me since I got that Major Matt Mason astronaut action figure and my Hot Wheels Sizzler back in the dark ages! I got a Toshiba 46inch DLP (46NMH84) HDTV, an LG Upconverter Multi-format DVD player (Converts 480 to 720 or 1080 to near HD level of clarity)and the crowning achievement an Xbox 360,(Gears of War, College Hoops 2k7, and Call of Duty 3) which explains why I am still awake. Santa Claus been berry, berry good to me!
  12. I am so there on opening day!
  13. I have been thinking about this and just like the fictional election on the West Wing , where the Democratic President elect nominates the centrist republican he defeated in the general election as his VP after his running mate dies, seems the way to go. I am only half joking here and expect to get lambasted. This country is becoming more polorized each day, but strange as it seems the vast majority of people here are centrist and probably dont even know it. When you throw out a few hot button issues, you would be suprised how much people agree. I am inpressed by Sen Obama not because of our common racial background or political party, but because when he speaks, I see a person of priciples who refuses to vote straight down the line. He has consistently chided Dems for not embracing thier religiosity, for not acting to support families, and for not being economically pragmatic I have always admired John McCain and have pissed off many of my friends when I pledged my vote to him if he ran against Hilary Clinton. I am a progressive, but Clinton is too much of a politician, and this country doesnt need another one of them. We need leadership, that can work both sides of the floor and not be afraid to solve problems without being concerned about partisan politics. Conscience is not limited to one or the other party, and it is high time someone elevated the rhetoric and adressed the real problems this country faces. Just think how an election would procede if we didnt have to get hung up on the party line, and candidates would HAVE to discuss relavent topics and ditch the dog and pony show that American elections have become.
  14. What a Moron!
  15. I am going to subscribe to Harlan Ellison's "94% percent of everything is crap" theory and say that 6% percent of the elected officials on both sides of the aisle are effective and the rest a turds ripe for the flushing. I fed up with the lot of them.
  16. Volio you never have to worry about about garnering support for ANY dissenting opinion around here. Kerry is a wingnut but there is a kernel of truth to what he said. Ther are very few I would guess, upper middle class and/or wealthy people fighting and dying in Iraq. Rich old guys sending poor and lower middle class guys to die for a cause that I still have not heard any compelling evidence for. i am in agreement that if we MUST continue in Iraq, it is only fair we reinstate the draft. That way every segment of our population can serve the country thaty have taken so much from. I see the Army has lowered the already middling standards for admission to make sure they hit thier recruitment targets. I served and no one fooled me or twisted my arm, but it is only fair that our armed forces be more representative of the country it has pledged to protect.
  17. They have officially went too far this time. It is idiotic , frivilous law suits like this that make people wonder about ALL liberals. I would guess I am not the ONLY progressive that has had it up to here with an organization that has not been in touch with the mainstream for decades and is one of the most devisive forces in America
  18. WoW!
  19. Jag, My source on the ground is a kid who lives down the street from me named Richie. He is 26 years old. He joined the Marines to pay for school and to serve his country " Like my pops did" he said. When my wife and I moved here 15 years ago, Richie was one of a few kids with any hustle in him, and hired himself out to cut grass shovel snow, you know that kind of thing. He was the kind of kid you could pay before the job was done knowing he would always finish his work. Richie graduated HS and worked a couple going nowhere type jobs before he decided to become a Jarhead. The last time he cut my grass six years ago he teased me, saying he'd write me from Lejune and let me know what is really like to be in the service, since I was in the Air Force and didnt really know. For the next few years I'd see him off and on when he was on leave, picking his little brother up from my neighbors across the street. He'd stop by and we'd tease each other, I'd remind him that in '82 the Corps had thier Police train under USAF personnel cause at the time they didnt have a police academy, and he'd say would that have been 1882 or 1982? It was our little joke and we repeated it often. Then he got deployed His Unit was outside Fallujah and responsible for training Iraqui police. He did two tours with scarcely 7 months in between. He came home last week, and while I was taking a nap, the doorbell woke me. I opened the door to find Richie beaming like always, and a prostethtic arm from the right elbow down. Still wearing that goofy assed grin for the next two hours we drank Guiness and talked. About his girlfriend, his brother, his unit but not about the arm. He didnt complain or agree with my opinion for our reasons for war. He said and I quote" All that shit is for politicians and people sitting home to figure out. I just wanted to do my duty without shaming myself and family and come back home" The one thing he did say was for the most part the whole deal over there was a "world class cluster**** " and half the time you didnt know if the Iraqui they were training were police or insurgents. " Shit, sometimes they was both" he said Richie is not dumb, not by a longshot, he was a Marine with a job and absolutely no political axe to grind. Jag I love you like a brother but your sources "on the ground" (as if you were in the Intelligence community) are soldiers too with a job to do and probably no better qualified than Richie to give an accurate picture on what is going on over there outside thier own little patch of the world. And if they are privy to details the rest of us are not privy to they should probably keep theose details to themselves. The truth is relative. People filter thier truths through the lens of thier worldview. Vets who come home and have an axe to grind with Bush and Co., probably had one before they were deployed. Semantics. Civil war/Insurgency? what is the difference? Comparing it to Liberty City is stupid. To my knowledge they were not car bombing 60 or 70 people at a time in Miami. No one in that country is safe for long and cannot say they are with a clear conscience. I was staioned in outside Athens Greece in 1984. My second day on base (Helinikon AB) a Navy Captain assigned to the US Embassy was shot and killed outside our base. Two KKE members on a scooter rode alongside his staff car and opened fire. It was the first of a rash of such shootings, that went on for six months or so. Everytime we went off base and heard that sound we literally dove for cover. 22 years later I still get nervous when someone passes me on a scooter. That is why I scoff at the notion that Iraq is a garden spot with a few rough areas and life is just breezing by. I hope you all will excuse my histrionics, but I wonder how many more Richie's will be popping up on doorsteps in this country and for how much longer?

  21. I see very little has changed in this neighborhood. I guess you should never let a little thing like the truth ruin a good argument.
