But there is NO flexibility when it comes to posting in the tech support forum.
  2. Well, thats nice /me stroking my 6800 GT and X800 Pro AGP boards
  3. No. And No. Play the game for what it is and was designed to be, not what you want or hoped it would be.
  4. Lighten up. And lay off the caffeine.

  6. Read p5 of the manual. The ACM scenario has fewer options than the ROAM scenario.
  7. I already moved it last night.
  8. Yeah, brothers (sisters even) are always good targets for the blame game.
  9. Ben Somerset (a relic around here, by all accounts) has been inducted into the external Beta test program.

  11. quote: Originally posted by street: but really, I think THAT attempt to cause SC a problem with DreamCatcher, was WAY past the line, and deserves NO regression of punishment. SUPPOSE for a moment, that he COULD have caused a problem...He would have been screwing with the man's livelyhood(not to mention EVERYONE's benefit from the successful operation of 3000ad), This is crossing the line!! You do NOT even TRY to mess with a man's business!!.... unless, your willing to face the consequence! Exactly. I usually forgive and forget, given time. But when someone crosses the line - they get to stay on their side and me on mine. Look at Shingen (who was prevented from posting - he wasn't banned - for some reason or another. Its been so long, I've forgotten what happened.), for many years we were at loggerheads on Usenet, some forums etc. But not ONCE did he disrespect me (at least I don't think he did) to the extent that one would begin to consider as crossing line. Yeah, like most, his jabs and opinions of me [personally] were (and still are) largely meaningless; but he plays my games, enjoys them and at the end of that day, thats ALL I care about. I don't give a rat's ass if people like me or not. As long as they keep their opinions to themselves and don't harrass me or disrupt my business, I'm fine. After all, I'm not running for office, nor am I in the popularity gaining business. I have a job which - unfortunately for me - just happens to be a hobby I have invested millions and a good portion of my life to. I do it the best I can for the good of those who keep spending money to see me do it. Thats all I care about. Everything else is largely, well, meaningless. There is a damn good reason why, with all my mistakes and major product failure (BC3K, my very first game), I am still here - several years and five games (some call them all the same game. They can kiss my ass. I didn't ask them to buy them) later. I do what I have to do.
  12. quote: Originally posted by Matchoo: I am posting these here because I'm not sure where to post them anymore. 1) What happened to the New Commanders Forum? 2) I've re-read the manual, appendix, and revisions last night, and I searched the forums today, but couldn't find the answer to this question (I probably just missed it). I have Warmonger that comes with 2 shuttles but no fighters. Can I purchase a fighter for it or am I limited to just being able to replace my original craft that are destroyed? 3) Does the single-player UC universe start with and maintain a fixed number of NPC's, or does the number fluctuate during the game. (What I mean is when I destroy a NPC, does a new one get created elsewhere in the universe to replace it? This is probably a question for the SC) It was fairly useless and posts were getting duplicated. So I deleted it and moved all its posts into this forum. No. What Shingen said What Shingen said. Plus, the only fixed entities in the game are those which it is seeded with when the game starts. These include all the objects within mzones/scenes on planets. All the stations/ods units/planets/jump anomalies/supply stations in space. Once the world is seeded, everything then runs on certain rules based on threat assessment, engagement, supply and demand (yes, those transports you see docking at stations DO re-supply them. If not, the stations will deteriorate, start being disabled and finally emit an sos etc) etc etc. Each time an NPC auto-gen tick occurs, a massive number of rules are immediately run. And these determine what those generated NPCs do. During that same rule run the NPCs already in the world also get their rules updated, revised etc depending on what is going on. e.g. if AG generates a fleet to attack a station (or another station sends a fleet to attack another or to recapture one of theirs), it will run a separate rule branch which handles defense and offense in parallel. In 2.00.11 I revised some rules further in which I allowed stations to launch carriers and cruisers based on a higher threat assessment. I had disabled this back in BC3K v2.0 because it made the game too difficult and require too much processing. The last time I checked, about 72% of the game's processing was in the AI. Everything else is graphics, sound, IO etc. One day, they will invent a APU (AI Processing Unit) much like the GPU, and there will be much rejoicing at GALCOM because then I'll really go crazy on new advanced and expanded rules.
  13. Yep. I was planning on moving it in UC, but never got around to it. Besides, its fine just where it is and doesn't cause any problems, does it?
  14. OK, thats nice. Now go fix your sig. Or did you want your profile deleted by a mod or admin? They aren't going to tell you about it again.
  15. This has been going on for years in sports games. All those banners, posters etc you see flashing by as you race at 200 mph, are paid for by those sponsors. If they paid me enough, I'd be more than happy to be a sell-out whore! In fact, there is a company setup to specifically sell stuff like this and they spam my email on every now and then.
  16. Well, glad you folks are having fun. Its only going to get even better with the next upcoming major mp update.
  17. quote: Originally posted by DennyMala: Indeed MP works pretty fine with my 56k dial up connection and without lag. Congrats on a fine job SC, it's the first time I can play MP without seeing a slide show.... Yeah, that was the plan all along.
  18. Its trivial. Using the XBox dev kit (which comes with a special XBox HW different from the retail), you just pass it through either a VGA box so that you take screen shots displayed on your monitor. Or you can run the same rig using a PC video card with a video in (e.g. ATI's marvelous All-In-Window boards or a dedicated VGA capture board)etc. Or you could run the output to your VCR, capture it to tape, then run that back to the PC and save it as MPEG (or similar), then load that into a program (e.g. Adobe Premiere, Windows Movie Maker etc) and extract the frames you want to TGA or similar format. There are many, many ways to do it. Search Google and you'll come up with several. *moved*

Then he logged in from work. I banned that too. Later, he apologized and I removed both from the ban list and had the web dude remove the sitewide ban (which was imposed without my prior knowledge actually). Look, I've been doing this for a very long time. I was a programmer before most of you were old enough to hop out of your diapers. Its going to a take helluva lot to shove anything past me. Wolf57 is never coming back here. I don't care how he does it. He can't possibly work (or go to school) very far from home. His IP seems to be static, but even if he swaps, there can't be that many ISPs within his area with different domain masks. Even if he switches ISPs (why go through all that trouble? I mean, seriously?), there is damn good chance that I'll spot him the first time he posts. And to make sure, I will run my own IP investigation and go from there. Now, if he wants to go through all that trouble (new ISP, new forum name) etc to get back on, thats his problem not mine. No matter how long he evades capture, he will be caught and booted. And if he does get caught again, he will be reported to the FBI's Internet bureau because he would have been guilty of circumventing a site's security protocols in an attempt to disrupt it. We have enough emails, posts, tracked IPs etc to - at the very least - put him a whole world of pain. I'm hoping he pulls that stunt. I truly am. The last two people who tried that, had their ISP kill their accounts in under 48 hrs. ISPs don't fool around with this stuff anymore - especially where security is concerned and on privately run sites. EDIT: His latest - and pathetic - attempts at sucking up [ 06-18-2004, 08:44 AM: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]
  20. LOL!!! Don't use the AP to park it.
  21. Gudihl, I have to re-open this in order to post. Porter, please do NOT send me PMs about tech support issues again. You are NO different from the others here who read the forums, contact the tech support email address etc etc.
  22. quote: Originally posted by jamotto: The next person who posts about something that is (a) covered here in the forum ( covered in the VCF will have their posting rights revoked. Everyone pretty much knows by now that there are a LOT more units in a planetary scene than in a space region. As such, starting an fp career will take longer as the server sends a ton of info to the client prior to startup. That and other issues are clearly listed in the VCF. If you had actually run your tests in space, you would have seen that client connection is less than 1 min. Also, the network layer deliberately has pipelines set up for the lowest common denominator (56K) so, regardless of whether you have a dial-up or broadband, the client connection will be relatively the same. This will be changed in the future once I can find a way to throttle it and prevent 56K dial-ups from having a bad playing experience. And those settings in the server browser, DO work. Use them. What the hell this has to do with the subject of the thread - nor why you posted in here - is beyond me. Client startup on the server has NOTHING to do with the server browser.
