It's your prerogative, of course, to respond to this in a patronizing, condescending manner. The game is a full screen program (do you know what that means?) and as such, does not follow any normal GUI conventions used by regular apps which don't need access to the bloated and useless Windows screen functions. Most games operate this way - and thats why the BC games are *not* the only games that would behave abnormally when it loses lose focus. No, the game does NOT crash (thats just rubbish) when you accidentally press the Windows key. And if you don't like the tone of my response, leave. quote: The break(s) that your gamers give you far exceeds the norm and you know it. I'm one of them. Right. So you shouldn't be whining like a baby over something you can easily resolve on your end. quote: However, if I accidentally press the Windows key and it crashes the program...Rubbish. The game does not crash. It just does like being interrupted and thus lose focus when something like that happens. If it crashes, go update your video drivers. quote: I would argue that nothing the player legitimately playing the game might do should crash the program. The keyboard is the user's interface into the game, and there's a key right there between two critical keys for the game... via a single keypress, I might add... that crashes the game.Go cry to Microsoft. quote: And because of that, I'll have to find a workaround outside of the game to fix a problem with the game.Suit yourself. quote: Essentially, the game is not fully compatible with keyboards that include the Windows key. That just proves to me that you're not a programmer. At least not one with 10 years worth of experience. If you were, you would immediately spot the error of what you just said. Either that or you don't know what you're talking about. quote: I would have been happy with, "No, that's not something I think is a problem, so I'm not going to fix it. Alternative solutions exist. Case closed." I could care less what you would be happy with. Did you even read all the posts in this thread before jumping in? And since I've had enough of your crap, get the hell off my site. There is a reason I keep avoiding your stupid posts. [ 05-28-2004, 01:03 PM: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

Fact is, not all games disable the Windows key because it is an OS key. And if you're mashing keys without looking or knowing what you're doing, you only have yourself to blame. I'm not responsible for actions or I might as well be responsible if you accidentally pressed the ALT key while flying too close to the ground, thus resulting in crashing the craft because you had mouse look on. Gimme a break. Besides, I was planning to disable the Windows key at one point, but decided against it. And if every developer considered it a priority - or even a necessity - the net won't be full of hundreds of pages showing how to disable this key. Even MS have a bulletin on their site on how to disable it.

  4. quote: Originally posted by Shingen: and Chavik was locked in hyperspace in my VDD, enough though he saud he wasn't in hyper. He was also jumping around the screen. He said that I was doing the same in his display, and jumping around as well. Once again. Read the VCF.
  5. Please don't create topics about bugs, when you don't know IF in fact it is a bug. Can you launch probes from ANY transport at all? If you can't, there's your answer.
  6. Good stuff. Looks like I may have to put in some sort of captain's log feature into the game. I was planning on doing this for BCG, but its one of those things that got dropped to the UC switch and lack of time. It would work like the mp chat interface in that you could preceed your typing with /log then type what you wanted. But instead of being sent, it would go to your own log file which you can read via Commlink or (after quitting the game) using Notepad, since it would be a pure text file. We'll see. If not this game, maybe UCE2E quote: Originally posted by Cc: Actually I did log on later,on server 4, with about 8 clients, then due to problems, everyone went to server 3. What sort of problems? The auto-gen NPCs? I'm looking into sorting that out once and for all this weekend.
  7. quote: Originally posted by Mordax Blyrr: OK well, I ordered two Marine squads to guard the mineral compartments. If they spot someone even pointing their finger at my Radine stock they are obligated to use deadly force AND bring the ashes to my desk personally! LOL!!! Yeah, thats the spirit. but yeah, spamllama (!) is right, upgrade your engine and reactors as soon as you get the chance.
  8. quote: Originally posted by TSCavalier: I suppose the only critique I would have is that it starts fairly slowly (a good thing) with lots of flavor and such, and then starts to move a lot faster and feels a bit more technical... like a manual. I couldn't help but think I had read some of it before (in the manual). Yeah, I agree. The reason I wanted it to start slow is so that the user didn't get intimidated from the start. I wanted to build confidence from that point on. But I remember posting a warning about sensory overload, because I know what was sure to come. And while you - and many others - may have read parts of it in the manual, there is no way to have written it otherwise, without duplicating the manual. If I was going to do that, why do a tutorial when I can just say RTFM? quote: Originally posted by Ricochet: quote:Originally posted by Cc: BTW, when do you sleep? .....or do you? Sure he sleeps. How else did he come up with FATAL (tutorial p.14)? LMAO!!! Good one, that. Well, if there is anything anyone would like to see in future revisions of the tutorial, I'm sure I'll be reading about it here.
  9. Man, this stuff just keeps getting better!! Good job!!
  10. Yeah, why not? We discuss pretty much everything else The tutorial is included in the most recent patch. Look in the DOCS folder for UC_TUTORIAL.PDF. [ 08-12-2004, 11:41 AM: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]
  11. heh, man, talk about paranoid ...which brings us to
  12. Saw this on CNN earlier
  13. The XFire userid has now been added to the fleet dB profile.

  15. quote: Originally posted by Mordax Blyrr: I was wondering how you can plan your fuel for a great navigation trip. Simple. Buy as much Radine as you can. And once the CE tells you that you are running low on Radine, he ain't kidding. Find the nearest station.
  16. Check the reg page. The online VCF has also been updated. You have to positively read the VCF before applying this patch. You have been warned. This patch also contains the full and final 80 page tutorial for UC. It is in a file called UC_TUTORIAL.PDF located in the DOCS folder where UC is installed. For those of you new to UC. You need to install the v2.00.00 patch first, before installing this patch on top of it. [ 05-31-2004, 08:24 PM: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]
  17. If you can't get it to work, take it back to the store because there's nothing that I can do about it. If all the resources available to you here on the forum and in the VCF don't work, then take it back. I can't fix what I can't reproduce.

I'll jut have to watch my back more closely. Perhaps he'll calm down. I'm not sure if I should be shocked that an incompetent and new player could that to you - an experienced player or if I should be pissed just because its Thursday. ...he's still in your XFire friends list
  19. You know Marv, funny thing is, I was just thinking the same thing last night.
  20. quote: Originally posted by Cmdr Chavik: Is server banning enabled yet? Yes, but only on the debug server. You just click on the person in the map and use the menu to kick him. I didn't finish it, thats why its not in the release build. My plan is to put in a client voting system, otherwise only the server op would be able to ban people. The IP address of the banned person would be recorded in a ban list and they will never be able to join that server again (as long as that log file exists). Why? Was someone being an ass on the server? quote: Originally posted by Marvin: What surprised me is not so much that the insurgent showed up but that we were on the planet and seeing each other with zero lag. v2.00.08 contains some tweaking I've been doing to the packets, but its still not quite where I want it to be yet, thats why its not documented in the VCF. I hope to go back and finish that once I'm done with the recent critical issues. quote: the pilot hadn't accidently hit Alt+E, he would've survived to fight another day.Doesn't that give a warning if you are a pilot and attempt to do that while not landed? If not, I need to put that back in.
  21. Update your drivers - including your BIOS and VIA drivers. The game is stable and no BSODs have been reported nor investigated.
  22. quote: Originally posted by Ricochet: Just think, you could throw a half a dozen Marines together and go practice maneuvers with live ammo, and come home with some goodies (meat, fur, etc.). Wake up!!!!
  23. ROTFLMAO!!!! OMG, thats the funniest thing I've read in a while. Welcome back!!! ....and did you say MMO?
  24. Never. Ever. Will I do such an utterly stupid thing as messing with Linux for gaming. Ever.
